I’m not mechanically inclined but watched your video and gave it a go. Emptied tank, let evaporate then used compress air to blast out debris. Removed and cleaned carburetor. Changed spark plug. On the second pull it started right up and runs like a charm. I can’t thank you enough! PS. Anyone who may have a hard time removing the small jet, the flat screwdriver on my leather man was the perfect fit.
Wow, what an EASY fix. It took me just about 10 mins to make the fix, along with a few new gaskets, and some carb cleaner. THANKS, I would not have had the courage to tackle this without your Video!!!
I had nothing happening on mine, pull the cord and it would not turn over. I changed plug, changed gas, even put small amount of fuel in chamber to verify it was getting spark and could turn over. Followed this video and a few of the comments below and boom! one pull and start. I went from pissed off camper to happy. Thanks for taking the time to post this very helpful and easy to follow video.
Moose is correct to caution you about what you put into a fuel system jet. I am an aircraft mechanic and I use a NYLON bristle off of a brush or some fishing line to clean out small orifices such as in the fuel injector nozzles or carburetor jets. It is MUCH safer to use a nylon bristle than any metal wire- no matter how small. Metal wire can and will damage the jets. Nylon will not.
Thanks! My generator would only run with the choke about halfway closed (indicating low fuel flow through the carb). Opened up the carb per your instructions and found lots of lacquer. Easily removed with carb cleaner and a paper towel. Good as new now.
Very helpful post. Followed your instructions for cleaning the carb on my 2000i which would not run. After clean and new 93 octane gas, it started up on the first pull.
Mine has been struggling for the last year while under load, I’ve cleaned it thoroughly many times, couldn’t figure out the mystery, and then, you saved me. It almost got by me, but your comment about making sure the gasket is on the right way. I had flipped a gasket when I cleaned it last year and as soon as I corrected it, it’s running good as new. Thanks!!!
WOW! Thank you so much ! My Jenny runs smoothly again :) Before on Eco she dances around in circles !! Now after the carb cleaning as per your instruction video, she sits quietly and purrs :( Thank you !!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for this video. I cleaned the carb, but couldn’t figure out the orientation of the Eco throttle and the spring. I greatly appreciated you zooming in on the mechanism. Thank you again.
Just followed your instructions and it runs perfectly. I bought the aftermarket carburetor that includes the spark plug, air filter, and inline fuel filter (didn't install) for like $34.00. worked great. Used the old white idle motor thing on top. Thanks for sharing.
Want to thank you for a great instructional video. I had a carburetor build up. After following you video I now have a functioning eu 2000 at 100% operational order.✌🏻
This is a really fantastic video. If you know you just want to clean the jets, you can save some time by not taking off the top auto-throttle. Leave it attached, flip the carb over, take off the bowl, the float, unscrew the jet, pop out the 2nd set of jets, and you can do this procedure in about 10 minutes. Compressed air makes the cleaning go considerably easier.
The one guy I made this for is in the desert in Senegal. He didn't have compressed air. And he also never watched the video, but I'm glad it's helped dozens of others! If only there was a way to make money on this!
@@brakeformoose there is. But I'm not telling. Go back yo being an unrepentant sinner and I just might let you in. By the way, I'm not a literalist. Haha. Gotcha!
Watched your video and cleaned my carb on my EU2000i generator. I was having to leave the choke on in order for it to run. After cleaning the generator runs great. THanks for the helpful information.
Thanks for an excellent video. Found my EU2000 wouldn't start just before Irma. We didn't need it, as it happened, but I've cleaned the carburetor - it was filthy - and the generator runs like new now. It's the first time I've attempted something like this, so it was a challenge. Your video gave me the confidence to try it.
This was a well put together video. Used it this morning to clean a dirty carb on my EU2000i. Both generators are out there purring in the driveway now.
Thank you very much for posting this video. I want you to know that if it wasn't for your helpful video, I would not have been able to do it myself. I cleaned the carb after watching other carb cleaning videos and it did not with the sputtering, With your "Overhaul" video I was able to go one step further into cleaning the secondary jet and it did the job. Your video gave me the confidence to "DIY" it. Thank you. your video is A+
Thanks for making the video. Gave me a lot of confidence in tackling the job. Have to note that it is not necessary to remove the eco-throttle motor assembly from the top of the carburetor and, therefore, not necessary to mess with that little spring. The carburetor can easily be disassembled with the motor still attached. I could not get the second jet (emulsion tube) out, but running a lot of carb cleaner through it did the trick any way.
6. Need to remove motor, float, rubber float pin. if you soak in cleaner. Cleaner will damage other plastic if any exist. Not sure what coke will do. Seat for float pin? Suggest to soak in vinegar instead and only need to remove motor.
Thanks..this worked like a charm to solve the issue I had with a rough idle and having to leave the choke on to keep the generator from dying. I also used what Pa Bar said and bought the new main jet in advance.
Thank you for the video! Took me about 45 minutes, followed your directions and now my generator is running perfect. Prior to cleaning I had to adjust my idle with the choke, RPM was to high with choke off. Thanks again!
Great video! Just replaced the main jet with a new one from the Honda Dealer and it runs like new. Did NOT take the electric throttle control off, no need to
Thank You!!! Your video was exactly what the Doctor ordered. I tore down, cleaned, and reassembled my carb and the genny is running smooth as silk and easy to start.
Thanks for sharing, got mine up and running, no need to remove the electric throttle assembly. Cleaned everything out and used TruFuel for storage. Runs great again!
Thank you so much for the part about how to reassemble the little motor and little spring. This saved me a trip to the shop to get my eu1000i back together properly.
Excellent video! Nice voice, slow enough to follow, camera focus is good, etc. I know I can do this now and not be intimidated! On a scale of 1-10, I would definitely give you 10+++! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Always before storing these generators, open the brass screw on the bottom of the carburetor bowl and drain the gas out of the bowl. Honda put that screw there specifically for that purpose. I gets any residual fuel in the carburetor bowl below the jets and pick up tube and eliminates varnish build up on critical parts.
Worked great!! Thanks for the clear tutorial. I too couldn't get the inner jet out by blowing air...so I reached in and pushed it out with a screw driver.
Thank you very much for the video you have posted. It was very helpful and professional. I had no problem fixing mine and getting running after watching. Thanks again.
Just an update, it is very similar. I could not get the inner piece out below the main jet, it seemed to be held in with a pin. I cleaned it in place and all the other parts you mentioned, now it purrs like a kitten. Thanks again for the information Moose.
Fantastic couple things to add; 1) Soak- Need to remove motor, float, rubber float pin. if you soak in cleaner. Cleaner will damage other plastic if any exist. Seat for float pin? Not sure what coke will do. Suggest to soak in vinegar instead and only need to remove motor. 2) Carb spring- Lock yourself in a small empty closet when removing and installing. Easy to find when shoots out.
Updated the description to address a few of your comments. I have 13 bad generators with my company around the world. I did this for them. Only one of them bothered to use it, the rest are still broken. I'm glad the rest of you are finding it helpful!
Thanks again for the video. Now I can replace my carb with another one in the dark, one hand on a flashlight. Even the little spring, no longer a problem. Seems gas quality is the issue so I only use Holiday gas in my generator now.
Nice job, one suggestion is to not take off the auto throttle but just remove the plastic top cap and unplug the three wire connector, clean carb with the auto throttle attached and then reverse to reassemble.
5. Need to remove motor, float, rubber float pin. if you soak in cleaner. Cleaner will damage other plastic if any exist. Not sure what coke will do. Seat for float pin? Suggest to soak in vinegar instead and only need to remove motor.
as for the servo...i recommend to remove the cover before the carb is removed and disconnect the wires and leave the servo in place. no need to remove it
Thanks for this video. I just completed my cleaning and it runs much better now. I did not have issues with the spring popping off. Perhaps Honda fixed that and made it so it wouldn't pop off. I didn't notice much varnish, but sprayed lots of choke cleaner on all the parts and it definitely cleaned out something because the generator started right up and ran with the choke closed.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this video!! I had torn my carb down twice and my generator would still only run for about 4-5 seconds and then die. I was about to commit harry carry!! I didn't realize the jets had that much varnish in them until I saw this video!! After taking a small piece of wire and cleaning out the jets my Honda starts the first pull and purrs like a kitten!! Thanks again for doing this vid!! Lifesaver!! :-)
Did you install the long jet backwards? Looking at when you pulled it out, and when you put it back, it appears that it's reversed? I noticed because I took mine out without observing how it came out and now I'm trying to figure out how it goes back! LOL
The second jet didn't come out for me neither but then I opened the choke and stick a little slotted screwdriver inside to push the secondary jet down from the top. Good luck.
Great video, but I wish you could have explained what the big black plastic screw and the little brass spring loaded screws do,and how to remove and clean them as well, they must have a purpose, and surely they can be removed and cleaned,I feel the overhaul is incomplete
Good video, thanks. I'd have a new float bowl gasket on hand. Mine was badly hardened. Had to put it back together like that for now, but I'll get a new one and put it on soon.
That 'long jet' is called the emulsion tube, there is no better way of cleaning carburetors than ultrasonic cleaning. If you are careful it is easy to clean out most jet orifices using a 'bristle' from a wire brush, just grab one with a pair of pliers and pull it out! It is much safer and easier if you remove the top cover, then the speed control solenoid, then the solenoid mounting frame, then the black plastic link and spring, when refitting the solenoid it is very easy to line it up by turning the throttle control or rotating the solenoid and much less likely to lose the spring!
I noticed when you removed the long tube from the center of the carb it had the smaller/longer end coming out first but when you reinstalled it you put the smaller/longer end in first and left the short end with the tiny hole facing toward the main jet. Had you already removed that and just not replaced it properly? I believe the longer end does go in first like you showed it when reinstalling.
Great video. It fixed my generator problem - now it operates just like brand new. I'm switching to avgas (100LL) instead of auto gas for fuel. Hopefully this will help keep things clean.
Hey Michael, glad your honda is working again. I'm an A&P mechanic and I've run 100LL in my motorcycle for years. It's a problem if there is O2 sensors or cat. converters. I would hesitate though using it in this generator. The higher the octane, the slower it burns. In your big bore I0 540 with fairly slow RPM that's perfect. But this little thing is humming along. You could still have explosions going on when the valve opens and start burning exhaust valves. It wouldn't take long to wreck the engine. I don't want to talk down, but I've found a lot of people don't realize that ethanol is hydroscopic, like Jet A. It absorbs water from the air. That's why we add Prist to jet fuel to keep the bacteria that live in that water from clogging the fuel lines. Anyhow, if water is a problem then try using fuel without Ethanol. Usually 91 octane. If it's fuel drying up in the line, causing plugs, I would recommend putting a shut off on the fuel line. I usually remove the finger screen and install an inline filter and shutoff. Then you can run it till the fuel is out of the carb and you shouldn't have problems. I would definitely go this route before I started using 100LL.
When re assembling the carburetor the spring - the one that everyone invariably drops during disassembly - the spring can easily be inserted by taking the black plastic part off the motor's shaft, putting the assembly together, , than easily aligning the whole assembly with the shaft.
I have been doing this shit for better then 40 years, and got to tell you that you are one heck of a good teacher, there is no way I can come of with the patience to teach/show another like you have just done. I need to re jet mine for my high altitude but cannot find a dealer for them, can you clue me in. Thanx in advance Rich
Thanks for the video... Mine didn’t run well OUT OF THE BOX!!!! Would only run smoothly on half choke. Runs great now! BTW, carb "looked" clean inside, must have been a small blockage somewhere.
Not sure that was clear, the jet came out of the carb backwards. He installed it properly. But he did put it in opposite the way it came out of the carb.
Thanks for the video. The carburetor cleaning part works the same for a Honda EU3000IS. Just don't need to remove the electric control motor at the top of the carb... just unplug the connector carefully.
5. Need to remove motor, float, rubber float pin. if you soak in cleaner. Cleaner will damage other plastic if any exist. Not sure what coke will do. Seat for float pin? Suggest to soak in vinegar instead and only need to remove motor.
Nice video. thanks. my main jet was totally blocked; after cleaning finally started & ran well. Why does everyone love Honda small motors? I find others to be much more tolerant of fuel related problems.
I have an eu2000 and it started surging in both eco on or off. This just might be the fix as it gets intermittent use and must be over 6or 7 years old and never been serviced like this to my knowledge, I bought it use4 years ago from a second owner. Thank you for the tutorial. It is appreciated immensely. I have an eu2000 and it started surging in both eco and fast.
+Jim Couillard That would be helpful. The best thing would be to run it completely out of fuel when you're going to store it for a while. Something that I've chosen to do on many dozens of them is to install a fuel line shut off so I can shut off the fuel to the carb and let it run itself out. There is a white plug down at the shut off. The shut off turns off the fuel and the spark at the same time. What we'd like to do is to shut the fuel and leave the spark. You could unplug that white plug but then you'll never have the ability to just shut it off. It runs for a few minutes after you shut the fuel off.
@@brakeformoose Great and helpful video! How did you install fuel line shutoff? I also want to replace that dreadful inline fuel filter with one closer to the carb so I can easily check it and/or replace it. Do you have a particular fuel petcock and fuel filter that you use? Thanks so much for your help?
This one had issues due to carburetor being gummed up? Looked pretty darn clean to me. Geez doesn't take much I guess. Can running premium help avoid these cleaning intervals? Thanks for vid.
I just bought a new Honda 2000i and is leaking gas from the bottom throw a line that is connected to the side of the carburetor. It happens in eco mode, when eco is off it don't leak. I'm afraid is a fire hazard, but dobt know how-to fix it. It doesn't matter if the tank is full or almost empty, always leak in eco mode on. Is the first time the tank is filled, so it can't be dirt in the carb! I know it has guarantee, but it takes a lot of time for the dealer to fix it after the Huracane crisis. Maybe is an easy fix that I can do myself. Suggestions? Thanks!
He definitely did. If you notice it also came out of the carb backwards. Maybe part of the staging for the video, but could have been the problem w/the way the unit was running. This carb does not show the signs of being very dirty, although it still could run rough. Most of the ones I've cleaned looked much worse.
I tried cleaning and then replacing the pilot jet, but it made no difference for me. I don't seem to have a proper screwdriver to remove the main jets, so I imagine it's one of those that's the issue now. I can live with moving the choke up a bit though.
I just followed your tutorial and now have two running EU2000i generators running on two year old treated gasoline. Thank you very much.

Thank you for the great info, it sure made it easy with your help. Keep up the great work
Thanks for the video... Mine didn’t run well OUT OF THE BOX!!!! Would only run smoothly on half choke. Runs great now! BTW, carb "looked" clean inside, must have been a small blockage somewhere.
Thanks Moose! It worked..... what I'd like to know is why is this carb so sensitive??
Excellent video, thank you for filming and sharing
What about the pilot jet? The small plastic one behind the idle adjuster. That is usually the culprit when the gen lops or needs choke to run.
Hey I was looking at these videos specifically to see if there is a pilot jet. Is There a part number for this jet?
Yes..! Pilot jet is the main problem for idling the generator ..!
Not sure that was clear, the jet came out of the carb backwards. He installed it properly. But he did put it in opposite the way it came out of the carb.
Thanks your video was helpful in solving the issue with my EU2000i!
Thanks for the video. The carburetor cleaning part works the same for a Honda EU3000IS. Just don't need to remove the electric control motor at the top of the carb... just unplug the connector carefully.
+DieselWelder I'm thinking this will more or less apply to any smallish generator carburetor.
5. Need to remove motor, float, rubber float pin. if you soak in cleaner. Cleaner will damage other plastic if any exist. Not sure what coke will do. Seat for float pin? Suggest to soak in vinegar instead and only need to remove motor.
Nice work.
Great job reusing the float bowl o-ring, too.
Never give up and never buy new parts. LOL.
Nice video. thanks. my main jet was totally blocked; after cleaning finally started & ran well. Why does everyone love Honda small motors? I find others to be much more tolerant of fuel related problems.
Great job! I know now that I'm missing the spring.
Pen?
Thank You so much, this vidéo was very helpfull to solve my problem. Clear description, good visibility, thanks !
Michel
Thank you sir excellent video very well detailed descriptive I appreciate your time and effort you put into the video good man thank you sir
For those with a 2800 version is similar and the worst part is that darn spring…everything else is super easy.
Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Cheers,
I have an eu2000 and it started surging in both eco on or off.
Do you think that the necessity for a carburetor cleaned up would be avoided if one uses the purge feature beneath the carburetor on a regular basis?
Great video. Many thanks for this informative video.
You sir are genius. I am just okay with mechanics and not that great with direction. Not with this video though. Made my day.
The long piece under the jet is called the " Emulsion Tube"
Just what I needed. Thanks!
Thank you very much for this video. Very informative.
Melhor vídeo de manutenção que já vi, parabéns pela explicação!
thanks man it helped a lot. Really appreciate! Gustavo from Argentina
I stripped my main jet and can’t get it out. I’m I screwed? Or is there a way to get it out still? Ugh!! Such a great video
This one had issues due to carburetor being gummed up? Looked pretty darn clean to me. Geez doesn't take much I guess. Can running premium help avoid these cleaning intervals? Thanks for vid.
What's the part number fro that Spring ????
Yep. I've lost it 😢
I just bought a new Honda 2000i and is leaking gas from the bottom throw a line that is connected to the side of the carburetor.
Could have been done by the same person who removed the exhaust part
Excellent video, thanks! 👍👍.
I tried cleaning and then replacing the pilot jet, but it made no difference for me. I don't seem to have a proper screwdriver to remove the main jets, so I imagine it's one of those that's the issue now. I can live with moving the choke up a bit though.
Very well explained. Thank you!
MOTOR DOES NOT have to come off. Pop off white cap and gently pry sides of the electrical connector up
