Hey Steve O !!! That Beer has to be hot after watching. a 20 minute video !! But. A Great advice thou !! on the carb .
The "New carb here" link indicates product "Not Available"
I love you Steve! For 15yrs I've struggled to start my ancient Honda mower every time. Today, first run of the year, it refused to start no matter what. After your video, I cleaned the carb (didn't see any blockages, but followed your steps), and now it starts on the first pull. Amazing!!
Thank you so much Steve; you're a genius.
Great job!
Its that freaking pilot jet every time...
My father used to do small engine work. He was not a teacher, he could just do it. This video has to be one of the most, well produced, easy to understand, and useful videos on this platform that ever I've seen. Thank you, Steve.
I'm honestly blown away at how straightforward and thorough this video is. Top notch.
Really??? Steve reminds me of a used car salesman

Clearest instructional video I have ever seen, on RUclips or anywhere else, and I'm 68 years old. THANKS!
Wow, thanks!
A Small Engine Repair shop quoted me $160 for carb clean and oil change. Did it myself with your help. It took a bit longer than I thought but would be able to do it again in half the time. Love the details in your videos--close up shots and comments, and your choice of exotic beer. Thanks Steve!
You're Welcome...
When someone saves me that much money or entertained me in some way, I'll figure out a way to at least tip them lunch money! I've done that many times! Often, the video makers are too kind to suggest doing that. Remember, many little tips are better than nothing and, if many do it, they will add up to something nice!
If you can't do it yourself, this video shows why it cost so much to have it done professionally.
You get an "A" from me. Stationary camera with clear video plus I understood every word you said, no mumbling. No extra bullshit either. Among the best.
Thank You...
Maybe because my monitor is so big but at least 720p video would have been great. The 480 resolution was very blurry on my monitor. But I agree, it was at least stable.
Perfect video 10/10 no complaints
Steve...another very relevant video with clear step by step instructions, video focused on involved parts when necessary and clearly spoken instructions. You share your knowledge and expertise in a constructive way that helps me. Thank you.
Steve's Small Engine Saloon, I just tried to watch a few other videos on youpoop, Couldn't see shit! Thanks for a doing a great job.
Steve, what's awesome is you not only explain each step, you took the time to tell us how to put it all back together again..
No one ever does that on a video .. Thanks Steve ...
Glad you liked it!
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon thanks Steve good advice, gotta lawnmower with a Honda GVC 160 surges at high, dies at idle. This should help.
Cheers Mr
Steve, Thank you SO MUCH. As a woman who prides herself on really participating in the care of my tools and machines, you have completely given me the confidence to do this myself, and not schlepping it into the shop. You have a talent for this, for sure,....lifting an appreciation beer to you!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
You make a good point, sometimes transporting it to the shop is harder than D.I.Y. if you know what to do.

You're Welcome...
Doesn’t ask for a like or a sub, just reminds you to drink a beer. This man is a hero.
I go back to this video every time I need to fix one of my Honda style carbs. Thanks!
Any time!
As others have already mentioned - great video for the steps you covered, and great confidence builder. I followed all the steps, but still no luck getting my 25 yr. old Coleman Powermate HP 3500 generator started. I found that my problem was within the fuel shutoff mechanism which was not covered in your video. Unfortunately I had total blockage right where the fuel enters the carb, and it took a little force to break thru the white powdery material. I was then able to spray carb cleaner thru the inlet, and I cleaned up the rubber gasket inside. Re-assembled, and she started on the first pull. Thanks!
You know...in the 70's and 80's - What I wouldnt have given..for Tutorials LIKE YOURS ! Sure we had "books" (sometimes?) but unless ya had the Exact Model...you were Guessing at best....and Ive Never been a "Book Reader"....Ide read it and "thought" it said Push...when really it was pull, etc.

Lol....Hey - We're All Human !
I love all the electronic power tool commercials during your videos..RUclips's hilarious.

Amazing helpful video. Gonna go take my Chonda (lol) carb apart and clean that badboy up now, along with the other usual maintenance. Thanks again Steve! You're awesome!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Great solid info... I will be linking this vid whenever I get question from people on how to clean a carb.
Right on Nick...
Thanks for the video Steve. My push mower was surging and sure enough the main jet was clogged about 50% closed. Cleaning it out fixed the issue.
Reminder to everyone to wear safety glasses! One poorly placed spray of the carb cleaner had it shooting right back at my face.
I love to send your videos to people that tell me their whatever won't run. Saves me a lot of trips to friends who think my time is free.
Awesome!
Must be the clearest instructional video on you tube that I have come across ,no way is my machine going in for repair anymore now the mystery of carbs and cleaning has finally sunk in to my addled brain cell .
Wow, thanks!
You are the best Steve! Saving us money is certainly what you do. You make things easy to understand and give us tips that only a professional who does small engine work every day learns. That’s a real gift and I appreciate it! Thank you brother 🫡
WOW! Thank You...
Best carb cleaning video I've seen. Thorough, clear, all the details I needed were there. Not sure how to reset the idle screw when re-assembiling. I'll try counting the clockwise turns needed to seat before removing.
Steve is by far the best carb guy, just taking the time to explain that you need the exact size screw drive with no flare is a huge value. Way to go man
Right on Eddy! Thank You...
jason9022 oh really, what do you work on that’s so great? There are plenty of details that can get over looked by plenty of good mechanics. That’s why it is useful for him to mention it. If your so damn good why are you watching this video?
You must live in the U.S. Northeast, like New York but probably not New Jersey.
You always say AUWT instead of OUT.
Of course it doesn't stop me from giving you thumbs up on all your videos! Thanks!
This guy. This is my guy. He’s good.
Thank You...
Steve I've watched a lot of small engine videos. And yours are the best. You actually show every step in your instructions. And show closeups of the parts and actually give time to look at them. Thanks for your time and instructions.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Great info. Helped me out a lot. Gave son in-law my Honda generator that had about 5 hours in it since new. He needed it for an electrical job. Left gas in it for about a year. With your video was able to strip and clean entire carb. Works like a champ.
Thanks, Sláinte
Picked up a garage sale mower for 5 bucks. Owner had taken the carb off and didn't know how to fix it. Parts and what looked like an almost new mower for the price. Cleaned the carb with torch tips and seafoam. Bought a new air filter that was missing. Ran fine for over a couple years.
Using more gas than usual and missing a little power. I think carb needs cleaning again and a new filter and plug. Easy peasy.
I'm glad you put 'video' in the title of this video so we know it's a video.
That's just there for the GOOGLE algorithms!
Absolutely love watching your videos. I’m trying to learn all I can about working on small engines and I know carb issues are a major problem of small engines. So I’m loving all of your videos
Thank You...
Seeing this helped me a lot! Snowblower is now up and running like a champ! I'm a subscriber now!
Right on Buddy, glad that helped...
Trash find of the year! Picked up a Honda HRC2162HXA Hydrostatic Commercial Mower with the GXV 160 Engine. Followed this carb cleaning video and the mower came back to life. The mower now starts up first pull every time. It's time to fine tune this thing by watching your other videos. Subscribed and liked! Thank you Steve!!!
That is awesome!
Thanks so much just fixed my dads carburetor. Thanks to this video. He’s happy again!
Great job!
Great demonstration, Steve! I was considering buying a new carb for my generator until I saw your video! Thanks!!!
Glad I could help
I considered cleaning mine until I saw the video and cost of a new one.
Very concise. Exactly what I needed to know. Got my gx340 running smooth.
Right on Cal...
Thanks, Steve I had my friend's Honda pressure washer up and running in less than 20 minutes.
Great job!
Thanks Steve for Showing us how to put it back together again. Very important.
I have to say these are the best videos out there. The close ups are perfect, you speak fluently easy to understand, a lot of needed small details, always in focus, I sometimes use my ultrasonic bath but not always.I really enjoyed the point of adjusting rpm on mowers with governor arm the only accurate video out there. Thanks Steve
Awesome comment, Thanks Gerald....
Steve, your videos are the best instructional videos that I’ve seen when it involves working on fuel type power tools! Others imitate you but fail short of duplicating your content. Thanks for being thorough!
Wow, thanks!
I dig how the beer is exactly where it belongs... Right in the tool gambit. 👍👍
As a shade tree mechanic, I find it useful to take a series of photos, both before and during disassembly, to ease the reassembly process. Great info on what is often a mystifying component- the carburetor.
Great point!
dude your videos are great! you actually go step by step while you explain each step. your videos are not confusing at all, unlike a lot of fix it videos where they play loud crappy music while paragraphs pop up on the screen. thanks!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
I haven't cleaned my carb yet, but I think I've watched this video multiple times in the past few years just because it's so well done. A few more watches and maybe I'll try it myself.
Thank You...
Thanks a lot. After watching your video I was successfully able to clean and rebuild the carb on my Daelim VL125. The bike runs like it's new now.
Great to hear!
Better than save me money, you gave me knowledge. Knowledge is priceless.
Agreed!
I just subscribed the other day - Looking forward to checking out more of your videos. I really dig your style. Awesome info, given in a way that the average person can understand. Not too technical, but all of the needed info. Not too corny, but a nice bit of occasional humor. Great camera work... And Beer... The perfect balance. You ROCK..!
This particular video SAVED me $$$, and taught me a new skill..! THANKS..! After watching this video I tried my hand, for the first time, at repairing a "small engine". Cleaned the carb on my Toro mower that wouldn't start/run (main jet was fully clogged). I even "made" my own special main-jet screw driver based on your advice. After watching another of your videos on a Briggs & Stratton carb, I got a generator running that had been sitting (with gas in it) for 8 years..! LOVE your stuff..! Keep it up..!
Right on Buddy! So happy I am helping people....
You're the man Steve! I watched 2 other videos on how to clean a carburetor and yours was by far the best and most thorough. It got my Westinghouse 7500E generator running again after only 30.5 run hours on it. One of the ports must have been clogged. As a show of appreciation I ordered some things from your Amazon store and Paypal(ed) you a little something. Keep the videos coming. Oh, and of course I subscribed to your channel.
Thank You...and Thank You...
You are a lot of help! Got my lawnmower, running like new again! Thank you!
Great job!
Steve I just replaced the carb on my string-line Stihl trimmer. I had to adjust the high and low idle and throttle. I couldn’t of done it without you. Much obliged Obi-wan.
Thank You...
Thanks so much - you did a very good job going over how to clean this carburetor. I had this apart three times before looking at this video. After looking at this I ran out and took it apart again and had the engine running like new. Again thanks - I gave you a thumbs up for this and wanted to add this comment. RUclips is an excellent educational tool and people like you sharing your knowledge is essential for educating us users.
Right on Buddy, glad that helped...
The twist-tie hint - GOLD! I was unable to get tiny paperclip or sewing pin in the pilot jet, but that worked like a charm! It also was the cause of the engine not running. It wasn't until I saw this video and cleaned the carb a second time that I got the engine running! Thank you!
You're Welcome...
Excellent! I really like the way you explain things, and the extra video editing that shows the extra detail. The only thing missing was how to adjust the settings.
Another thumbs up for this video. Tackled my first carb cleaning today and it couldn't have gone better after watching this video - thanks you so much!
You're Welcome...
Thanks for this video. It was what I needed to get my generator running again.
You are welcome!
I wasted 3 days off trying to get my craftsman tiller running for the season. It runs briefly with starting fluid. Never again will I store ANY small engine with gas in it. Out of despair, I found your channel. Awesome to the point video with close ups so your viewers can actually see what you are doing! I can't wait to get back into it, I already had the carb off and doused it with carb cleaner (didn't work).
Donation coming, just have to figure out how much!
Right on Pat...
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon any videos on how to properly adjust this type of carburetor? BTW- after removing, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and reinstalling just like you showed- the dang thing started on the first pull!

Excellent video! I love the close up shots and detailed instructions. Thank you for showing how to put it back together again too!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Great vid! I keep coming back to this every time I have to troubleshoot some crappy small engine which can't idle or won't throw any power into the load.
I have to say, (and admittedly it sounds a bit odd to say, but WTH...) I adore the juxtaposition of your crusty old dog persona and the dainty-ness of your hand work. Example: at 18:18 when you're spraying the Q tip. There's a total non-hamfistedness about it that's refreshing after having watched a bunch of vids about welding structural steel. You have to admit, there's a touch of "surgery" to this carb business!
Thank you for a great video. Wonderful close up shots and excellent editing!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Great video! Very thorough step by step disassembly-cleaning-reassembly process! Excellent! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge & experience! Sincere regards!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The precision of your descriptions, steps to follow, closeup filmwork, watchout gotcha's, resources available on your website set you apart.
You did miss showing us dummies about not putting the float needle valve in upside down! Never let us guess! You have to think like a dummy at all times! Great site.. Thanks.
Thanks Steve I watched the commercials so you should get paid from them and you also get a 👍🏽 from me .
Thanks for that!
After months of struggling to get my mower to start, I took apart and cleaned my first lawn mower carburetor today. Thanks for making this video! I couldn’t have done it without you!
Great to hear!
This video was exactly the information I needed to get my Cub Cadet snow blower up and running. Very clearly presented and super interesting. Saved me having to bring someone out to fix it and total cost was $3 for a can of carb cleaner spray. Thank you for making such a great video.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Perfect instruction and clear, and closeup shots of the important stuff. Excellent! Much obliged!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks fixed my Kohler / Toro by following this tutorial
Great to hear!
Hi Steve , I’m from the UK and have a Honda 3000 Generator which would not start after 3 years stored in the garage. I did everything you said in the video and hey presto ..... It started ..... so proud of my self ! All the best everybody and thanks for a great rundown on how to strip a Honda carb down a fit back together.
Nicky.
Right on Nicky! Thank You...
Excellent video! I just picked up a used Honda mower and now feel comfortable taking the carb apart. Thanks, Steve!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Good info, Steve! You Made it look easy. I followed you/your video cleaning my carb. I had to replace the carburetor fuel shut of valve too. It was totally garbage, bad fuel these days.
Thanks! You saved my 10yr old lawn mower! That moment when you pull the cord and it comes alive again!!
Steve, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this video. I have that very carburetor on a Kohler command pro CH270 on my wood splitter which wouldn't run after sitting all winter. So today I took the carb apart and cleaned it while watching your video step by step. It didn't totally fix my problem, but it now runs for about 2 minutes before it dies, which is an improvement. I think my next step is to drain the tank and maybe replace the fuel line. Thanks again.
Marvelous. I am glad to have seen this video. Very well explained. My Homelite pressure washer was not starting. I used your techniques. It worked perfectly. With the very first pull, the engine started. Thank you very much.
You're Welcome...
Thanks Steve for sharing your expertise on this subject. Best one out there. Cheers! 🍺😃
Always love the detailed shots and explanations in your videos. Thanks for this one. Helped me clean my carb. Still can't get the mower running properly but good to learn more about the functions.
Glad to help
Loved your presentation. Have one suggestion-always tell viewers to wear safety glasses anytime they work on gasoline engines or clean a part. Two weeks ago I put a little air through a mower fuel line without putting the cap on the tank. The only thing that kept the gas out of my eyes was the safety glasses. Similar things can happen when using air to get grit out of small parts-don’t want to get metal shavings in the eyes! Thanks, the best, complete instructional video I’ve seen in a long time. 👍👍👍👍👍
I’m pretty sure that he mentioned safety glasses
Outstanding video Steve, you got my log-splitter running again! Clear, concise and no BS (as someone else noted). Your videos are some of the best!
Glad to help
This is a very good demo of cleaning a carb. now I got to do it.!!
Thank You...
Thanks, Steve! I just cleaned my mower's carb after watching your video, and it was a breeze! Next up will be the Briggs carb!
Right on Mike...
Watched this video and knocked out two carburetor clean-outs in about an hour on two generators that had been in storage for five years each. Both started right up and now run like they are new. Highly useful and straight-forward training.
Thank You...
Does the Coast Guard permit Tecomsun engines to be used a spare anchor providing there are no connections fuel sources? That would add tons of of use to there entire lineup.
Fantastic video, I followed his instructions to the letter and she started up in one pull. Your the man!
Great job!
Excellent Steve. Not only the selection of your beverage, but the step by step disassembly, cleaning of all parts, and then the reassembly too. My 5 horse Honda on the woodsplitter surges and this will help me 100%. Again thank you
You're Welcome...
Men this is a really good tutorial. I live in Puerto Rico and sometimes we dont find the parts necesary for our equipment so we have to repair it by ourselves. This vid helps a lot. Thank you
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Steve, great video! It was exactly what I needed to clean and fix my non-running 6.5 HP (212cc) OHV Horizontal Shaft Predator 3100psi Pressure Washer (Harbor Freight Item 62200). I bought it several years ago, used it once, drained the gas from the tank, but apparently forgot to drain the carburetor. I guess the gas evaporated and gummed up the carburetor jets, which prevented the engine from running at all.
Long story short, I tried fuel additives, carb cleaner, etc. to clean it out but nothing "easy" and familiar worked. After deciding to replace the carburetor for $8 to $40, I was fortunate to find your well done video and decided to dismantle the carburetor and clean it according to your instructions. The carburetor was easy to remove - just two nuts and two hoses. It was indeed gummed up badly with several jet holes clogged. The carburetor was easy to dismantle following your instructions (I thought it was going to be much more complicated than it turned out to be). I had never dismantled a small engine carburetor before and was reluctant to try, but your video really helped. I used carb cleaner, an old toothbrush, and a small brass wire brush to get the really bad gum off.
After cleaning the carburetor as you instruct and putting it back on the engine, the engine started on the 3rd pull and has run smoothly since.
I would say your video covered about 99.99% of what I needed to know to do the job right and quickly (it only took me about 30-min from start to finish). However, you didn't mention the small o-ring on the end of the pilot jet, which A to Z Rentals & Sales mentions below. My o-ring popped off and fell onto the paper towels I was working over as I was clearing the pilot jet hole. I'm glad I noticed and didn't lose the o-ring because, as this was new to me, I never would have known the o-ring needed to be there. I would have been fine if I had read the some of the comments to your video (always good to do I guess).
Anyway, thanks for the very well done and instructive video. You saved me $40 and I learned some new stuff! Now I'm going to look to see if you have a video on storing small engines properly.
fantastic video. prob a million home owners need to do this with they're lawn mowers
Thank You...
Great video Steve ! You described all of the important details involved with these carbs. I have a GX160 and it was running poorly. This video helped me get ‘er running! Thanks
Glad it helped
Hey thanks for sharing,I did this today and it’s run great!good teaching job.thanks for your help.
You're Welcome...
Wow Steve, thank you man you've given a girl like me hope that I can fix my own carburetor. You left out the rocket science and made it simple. Thanks again.
Glad to help
Great video, Honda snowblower started right up after cleaning and we’re ready for the winter now.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Stop here folks it doesn't get any better than this. 👍🍺
So I just did one of these. Just a couple quick notes.
It was the main jat.
I had a torch tip cleaner I've used many times. The smallest was too big.
The wire brush worked.
Just a quick mention about the brass tube. I almost missed this.
Along the tube there are FOUR rows of tiny holes. 2 rows contain 3 holes. 2 rows contain 4. If you miss a row or two well you may have problems.
This is the one with the pilot under screw. It was also dirty.
The machine runs again
👍✌️🍺
Even though you’re a yankee, thank has to be the BEST explanation video of all teaching videos on the entire World Wide Web. Outstanding job! If ya ever ‘round New Orleans, give us a shout. I’m a new subscriber and fan. Peace brother.
Awesome comment, thanks brutha...
Thanks Steve ! Best tutorial I've ever seen on the subject, clear, and instills confidence takiing the mystique from carb repair. Anybody just trying to get the nozzle out and cleaned without the carb being taken off, it WILL come out just by gravity but be careful- it may not come out when and where you expect or want it. Mine fell into the grass and 1/2 hour later I found it. Wish I'd put a clean white big towel beneath the compressor I was working on sitting on the back end of a Gator. Just cleaned the main nozzle and bowl, and fixed it ! Thanks again, Steve !
Right on Bob....
Steve,love your attitude, cheers!
Super helpful. Thanks. I have another tip. If the plastic pilot jet is blocked as mine was, taking a small gauge round right angle feeler gauge can work to unplug it too. I had to tap lightly with a small hammer to get it to go through the obstruction, but it finally went. Motor now idles smoothly when it surged constantly on idle before.
Steve Huge thanks for this outstanding video. After thirty-odd years as an instructor officer in both the British Navy and Army, I can say with confidence that your instruction technique is among the best I've heard. Damn, almost as good as mine ! Happy New Year to you. Bob, Norfolk, England.
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Steve, thank you for making this video! I have a De Walt pressure washer stored in my shed for a couple of years without using. Your video was the one video who showed me step by step on how and what tools to use to clean out the carburetor. Thanks to you and the good Lord, my pressure washer is running strong again! Thank you!
Fantastic!
Great video and super helpful. Never had a carb apart before watching this video and was able to easily do the job on my Honda generator and have it running perfect again. Would only barely run at full choke before the cleaning, starts right up and runs great now. Thanks!!!
You're Welcome...
Did what you said to do on these carbs and Man Mower started right up. Thanks for all the tips.
Great job!
Tiny easy-out to remove the main nozzle, thanks! Nice tip. I've clean a bunch of these carburetors. Many times, just the main jet is clogged, but once you've gotten that far, might as well clean everything else.
Right on...
I just finished cleaning my carburetor for the first time ever thank you
Awesome and You're Welcome...
Steve, you are the greatest teacher. Simple, clear, easy to follow infos. Great video.
Wow, thanks!
Dude!!! Saved me a bunch of money again! Between the pull rope video amd this one, my pressure washer is up and running!
Awesome!
A great video, Steve! I have my pressure back! Hope you have a great day, my man.
Thank You...
