Guitar Lesson: How To Play Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana - Campfire Edition!

- I nearly killed this idea before it even began, but I'm glad I gave a look into making a solo acoustic/campfire version of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. What I first took as a complicated idea (given Kurt's often undecipherable musical intentions that never cease to yield enigmatically glorious results) actually turned out to be pretty darn simple, due to the glaring clue that Kurt left us about what key this song is in... I truly hope you enjoy this effort, as I truly enjoyed making it.

I love how much grunge is on this channel. Definitely my favorite style of music.
Amen to that! Alice in Chains is my favorite, but love all of the big 4 grunge bands
@@NatePinkstonChannel STP in my opinion is also underrated. Core and Purple are excellent albums from back in that age.
it's quite the honor to host this virtual gathering of like minded music folks :)
A version we never knew existed but so desperately needed 👌🏼
and to think I almost let that idea slip by! that was a close one...
"There are no piano players in the room"
Me a pianist and guitarist: you be wrong brother
dammit!a
One of these days, you're going to have to do a tutorial on how two make a campfire for us all to play around you know.
hmmmmmmmmmm that would require some organized thought...
This is unique.. Its so refreshing.. Im gonna learn this version now thanks to you

If you can get your hand just right, and be gentle about it...
Sorry but that one cracked me up! 6:34. Hey, this is a blast. Hell I never knew that was the name of this song. Fun lessons.
thanks for hanging out Wade :)
Love it!
two dog mom kind of a day!
You should open a whole separate channel for you throwing/breaking things. Just gets me every time
hehe. you clearly have a very well tuned sense of humor just like me ;)
If you want b and e to ring out, don't press down on the first fret on the b string during a minor. Still sounds awesome.
that's a fantastic idea sir
Love this song. Over the years I've heard a lot of people say Kurt was a sloppy player who never played the same song the same way twice. All I know is I'm going to be banging on this one!
*PS, good call, Jimmy!
sloppy on purpose isn't sloppy, it's an MO.
Hey Ryan. Another great video as usual. How about doing Outshined by SG?
1) you look like a very friendly man Simon. 2) thank you :) 3) great idea!
Cool...I've been doing that one acoustic for a while and was doing "me" but I will blend in some of you in there because things just taste better Lendt style...ah!
always do you RK, always :)
@@RyanLendt Always do my very best! Hi to your tortoises who I hope are adapting well to their new life and environment ( it looks like you are ah!)
My guy is so incredibly intelligent, it's actually frightening. We use your videos in our high school Music classrooms here in South Africa. You should just relocate here & open your own school, because trained & amateur guitarists from South Africa know exactly who you are already.
Genius!
thanks mate :)
Just discovered your channel now i have tons of motivation on learning the instrument with FUN...you are the best guitar teacher ever fu*k guitarlesson365 and marty music
aw thank you Sierra... welcome to the party! 🥳

Ryan Lendt “your life has become cucumber”. 😂👌🏻
Wow! Something I did not want to know but am super impressed with and now feel stupid for not needing this. Double well done today sir! I tip my hat to you.

You should take really hard rock riffs like Man In The Box too and try this! This is cool!
that's actually a darn good idea you just gave me a thought about that...
@@RyanLendt Readdy when you are dude...
Hey Ryan! Do you think you may be able to doe Falls On Me and Shimmer both by the band FUEL?
i saw this when I was playing golf yesterday and shimmer was stuck in my head for the whole back 9 :)
What's up Ryan I suggested working out some heavy metallica acoustically .. and I thought it was funny stay at home metallica had recently done it with blackened.
awesome!
hi ryan. this is an amazing tutorial thank you!! would it be possible for you to do a tutorial of name by the goo goo dolls? thanks
such an overtly pretty song - thank you for the request, and for the kudos Katherine :)
Shed Some Light by Shinedown please
Great lesson and nice guitar.
I'm guessing a 410CE from 1999?

Wow awesome I have grown tired of ripping through the power cords over and over
the softer side of smells like teen spirit :)
Nice.. and 100thanks again
yeehaw thanks Angel :)
These versions often turn out to be very interesting. Heres an interesting request you might like. Dave Mathews Some Devil. Take care.
thanks for that, and the request James :)
Hell yeah ! I been faking this song for awhile. I like your improv....
cheers charlie!
Can you do Only These Words- Chris Cornell plz🙏🏻
I simply must!
Solo: 2:20
Do you keep a statistic on how much views the campfire versions get compared to standard? Pity there will be no campfires for a while as you can't gather.
pity indeed, they remain coffee table versions for the time being. I'm more of a feel guy than a stat guy, but I was thinking yesterday how you started this whole thing :)
@@RyanLendt It's also an indication on what level of playing your viewers are.
hey man, how are you?? can you play the music negative creep?? By Kurt Cobain. Haha please, i want to play this music in my Band.
great idea Roni thanks for the suggestion! I'm good. how are you?
@@RyanLendt hahaha i'm Fine, thanks.
@@RyanLendt i'll wait for it haha
Instructions - For maximum effectiveness please read In your best Civil War General accent:
I believe your uncompromising decision to eschew the initial impossibly of such and undertaking as this campfire song did recompense your very own internal fortitude and rekindle your inner Teen Spirit encouraging what I sincerely hope was a veritable renaissance of belief in the indubitably highly developed skills of your calling. I bid you the most superfluous of thank you’s and congratulatory remarks kind Sir.
hahaha five million points for this. Thanks for the great idea Jimmy :)
"There's no piano players in the room, so we can do this and say Em and we know what we mean!" haha
:) I haven't said that in a while..
@@RyanLendt I love your acoustic "campfire" videos btw! I like listening to rock music, but am more of an acoustic guitar player, so these come in handy. I've actually had a go at some acoustic arrangements on a couple of rock songs myself... Would feel flattered if you checked them out :)

you can just sing anything you want and they'll buy it! congrats on your lack of AC - we just turned the heat off even at night for the foreseeable future here in NC.
Uke version! Saludos Ryan
Saludos Mattias!
Hear what you're saying but capo 1st Em, A, G and C (Fm, Bb, G#, C#) actually sounds better and more like it to my ear at least.
Please do a lesson on Gagging Order by Radiohead
that's a great idea thank you Luis
03:50 chords
Way to go Ryan. Always impressed by your skills sir. Campfire Crackerman?
thanks GBB! that certainly needs to be done doesn't it...
Let's break some rules. How's that NS 2 working out for you?
gets the job done! it's refreshing to not have to speak over my hum
Paper lanterns GREENDAY WITH SOLO
This guy gets it!
well ok then!
Reminds me of going to a bull fight! Olay!
oil of!
I think it just Time for a Campdfire.😀
it's always time for a campfire :)
Keep Kurt Alive!
KKA!
How many bells have just exploded on contact in these videos, surely there must be a kinder way
this is the way
hahaha this is indeed the way. I'm contemplating switching to a gong since I have the space now...
Whoever disliked didn't smell teen spirit. :)
heyo!
Someday, somehow there will be a piano player in the room.
ha! that needed to be said.
Ryan Lendt 😁
I like this better than the Malia J version. No shade; just a preference.
i won't tell her.
@@RyanLendt Have you seen the Mary Spender version? It's pretty good (IMHO). ruclips.net/video/CBGQ9dZGOAc/видео.html
5/17/20. WHERE’S DAISY?!!!
how youtube knew to put that on my home page this morning is beyond me...
✌️❤️🤘🏕🔥 🎸
woo!
up down up (em), down up down up (mute), down up down (am),
eagc
Can you like a video twice?
:)
That can't be right. That's an E major and A major for sure. Call me crazy...
My only point is that the melody is Em, which doesn't in any way shape or form assume that kurt meant minor or major for any of the chords, but that's a good of a guess as any since that's what they are in Em - you have my blessing to play E and A major if that's what your ears prefer, and no one could say you are wrong :)
@@RyanLendt And that's why you are the wise teacher and yet we remain humble students. Thank you for this.
Way to use theory, brother. I was skeptical at first.
I was too! thanks J
