The "Rooster" You Never Knew You Could Play: Alice In Chains Guitar Lesson

- Ain't found a way to kill me yet... welcome to this video, where I hope to show you how to play Alice In Chain's Rooster in the guitar. I'm using an acoustic, because we haven't moved into our new house yet and I don't think the neighbors in the hotel would appreciate my plugging in my electric. Also, I'm fully aware that Jerry takes his finger off the low E string as well in the main riff, I just don't prefer that. But you do you. Or in this case... you do Jerry if you prefer :)

I have a guitar for almost 10 years, and only now for the past like 3 months I actually managed to learn and play full songs, thanks to my obsession with AiC latelly and ofcourse your videos ☺️
Its like I finally unlocked this skill, like magic, and Im so happy haha
WOOHOO!
1:36 I couldn't help starting with "WooOooOooo..." for 5 minutes instead of learning the song😋
I love your channel, so glad to find good grunge tutorials! Thank you!
hehe thanks for singing along Val!
No doubt!
Not the band, but the singing thing.
Got me too.
I did the same thing too lolll can't help it 😂
I'm imagining myself performing this in some airport wine bar and it's glorious!!
I'm imagining that right along with you and it's equally grand :)
Did you do it yet?
😂😂😂
Same here brotha, same here..
😆🤣😂
Cantrell is just a riff writing machine. One of my favorite guitarists to play alone side J Page.
indeed he is. love that he seems to be a regular guy who loves to golf poorly and watch football as well :)
That was awesome. You inspired me to study music theory. I like how you explain scales, keys etc.. Thank you for the lesson it’s much appreciated 👍
I keep meaning to get music theory for dummies! Thanks a lot for that Troy :) It's nice to know my ramblings are landing here and there :)
Almost 3 years since this dropped! Still my favorite tutorial ever! This got me into guitar, and the rest history! Thank you Ryan!
I appreciate you Jax :)
Started watching your lessons a couple days ago and playing those songs. Been only playing conventional chords for years and now diving into power chords. You are making it easier for me. Great song choices, great teacher, great personality Ryan. Thanks for teaching all of us!

We used to Go out on the Cat Walk of the USS Enterprise at Night at Jam alot when we Could!!!! There's something about being 80 foot high above sea at night jamming as the waves and Swells busting the bow off an aircraft Carrier and Jammin Guitar!!!!! I'm retired now at 58 years old,,, Completed 20 outstanding years in our Beloved US Navy and still Jammin on my Own lol!!!!! Keep Jammin Brothers And Sisters,,, it Greatly keeps your Wonderful Mind at Ease!!!!!!!!! USN Chief Retired!!!!

I love this song and didn’t know it was so fun to play until I watched your clear tutorial. The unban technique was a cool effect. Thank you!!
Dude you are by far my favorite guitar teacher on RUclips. Never have had anyone to show me anything just learn everything on my own and you’ve helped me get 1,000x better than I ever thought I would be. Thank you also Alice is my favorite all time band going to their concert this year with breaking Benjamin (wish it was layne though) lol
have a great time!
I think this is my favourite lesson, so much fun to play. I can now do all the parts just have to sew them all together.
You’re a top lad Ryan.

Thanks for putting this video out. I took lessons a few years ago, but simply cant afford them these days. I owe you brother.
you don't need lessons. you just need desire, practice, and patience.
Great lesson. Straight to the point and didn't skimp on some important riffs, cheers!
thanks for hanging out Darren!
Just stumbled upon your tutorial, learnt the song in two days, as well as overcame my fear of bar chords. Cheers mate!
Glad I could help thanks for the shout!

Great tutorial buddy, just found your channel and really like all your lessons! Keep up the good work
cheers Mike, welcome to the party!
I like this guy! Seems secure in who he is and what he is doing. Takes most at least half a century to accomplish this.
Great job my friend!
Keep'em coming!
lovely to speak with you KW - thanks for the kind words, and for stopping by :)
@@RyanLendt
New sub Ryan! Nice style in teaching.
Keep'em coming!
Dude best guitar teacher on RUclips. You are too fucking real, unlike most... LOVE IT!!
aw thanks Christon - cheers to you!
I like your whole vibe man.
hey thanks man
Thanks for making learning pleasureable again and lessons that make sense. I have learned a crap ton of tunes in a week. These are songs that I never played when they came out and eluded me for years. I'm self-taught with no formal lessons and I can easily follow your lessons without having to know theory. I can get to down to it and play the song.
Cheers to that Joelle! I'm self taught as well... we must speak the same language :)
We certainly do. I just wish I had RUclips in the early '90s. That would have taken away so much frustration (sheet music and books were always wrong).
Ryan...your videos are awesome. Thanks for making learning fun.
thanks for being here Jerry, nice to hear from you :)
Top lesson, thanks Ryan. Sounds superb on an acoustic, it will be a challenge but that’s part of the fun.....I think.
The challenge, and knowing, are half the battle :)
Man what an awesome tutorial! Learned the song in about an hour with this video.
yay!
i love how your videos aren’t just some boring tutorial
thanks Moon Man :)
Just found your channel. Great stuff...excellent teaching style. I'm strapped in and scribed up....thanks my man.
Welcome aboard!
"Someone was bound to write this riff" LOL! I think I may have pulled a couple of those out of my arm pit! Awesome stuff, great lesson.
thanks thomas :)
It’s been soo hard to find quality grunge guitar lessons! I’ve hit the Jack pot, thank you! Can’t wait to see what you have on Cornell :)
enjoy the hunt JR :) thanks!
If you don't speak english this is the best channel for learn, beacose this men learn the chords and your position and play very good, thanks from chile 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
I've watched several tutorials on this song and yours by far is the most entertaining and I like the extra info about the notes. It's also spot on and I too like the acoustic version. Many thanks and love the enthusiasm. If you have time another simple Alice in Chains song to teach would be Don't Follow. Just throwing it out there.
Well I see you've already done a tutorial on Don't Follow. Thanks again.
cheers to you Wes - thanks for taking the time!
How the hell did I miss this awesome video? Great video man! Thank you. I've been playing for a long time now but just mastered bar chords. Both wrists have been broken, took me awhile to get bar chords down. This is going to be perfect for me to practice and play. I'm already having a lot of fun, thank you
enjoy the journey dozer!

🔥 lesson mate
thanks mate
Many attempts of learning these by my self getting close not accurate on cords but enough to make me happy , WATCHING this guy and correcting my fingers ,listening to his up down ,down ups, visuals ,forward instruct this cord that cord do this that and all in 10 minutes ,I thought to myself damn thats it , then practiced and Shazam tightened my playing right up , then I sit in my chair completely still, happy ,thinking Jerry Cantrell was going to knock on my door and tell me thanks for learning my song correctly after 20 years , and just laugh at myself
I hope Jerry does walk through your door Brian. Please tell him hello for me :)
I knew the main riff but never the chorus or the mini riff on the A string. Subscribed!
Welcome to the party Max!!!

YES! why was the butter having a great day? he was on a roll.
Luckily your tuition is better than your jokes........
Thanks Ryan! Great song choices. Some Foo Fighters on acoustic please? I haven’t played in a long time and you’re inspiring me to pick it up again! I love your enthusiasm, keep it up.
Thanks Tim! Great to hear from you :) check the foo playlist, I know I've at least done everlong but off the top of my head I don't know what else is on there. Either way, don't worry more is coming.
Cheers for this, one of my favourites.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great job man. Learned the song instantly
that's what I like to hear thanks Brandon
Awesome lesson I will be learning this.
yay :)
Just came back to the guitar - going to work on barre chords till I nail this. A favorite. Thanks for the video.
on behalf of guitar... welcome back NTC... good luck!
@@RyanLendt thanks. Barres are a bitch for a beginner ....
Good job, Ryan! I think the intro and verse chords though, Jerry lifts the finger releasing also the sixth string.. it adds to the beautiful "Alex Lifeson" chord.. Cheers! Oh my AIC, i miss Layne's voice.
I have since come to terms with this fact - I think I was refusing to hear it because I don't like hearing that low E under both those chords - but that's not my call to make :) Cheers and thank you Alexander!
Sweet. Simple. Nice work.
Thanks Ryan! Espero que a próxima seja "Over Now". Abraço do Brasil!
you got it my dude! On the list :)
