    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:27 🎸 "Nutshell" by Alice In Chains has a unique rhythm with six measures that repeat throughout the entire song.
    01:06 🎶 The fourth measure includes three beats of C followed by one beat of A minor 7. The next measure is entirely A minor 7, creating a distinct transition.
    01:49 🎵 A tricky measure involves A minor 7 for a dotted quarter-note, followed by one and a half beats of G, strumming G twice, and ending with one beat of D.
    02:18 🎸 Before starting, detune your guitar one half step down from regular tuning. The tutorial suggests checking a linked video for the detuning process.
    03:40 🎸 The strumming for C involves a sus 2 and a hammer back onto the regular 3, with variations like lifting the pointer finger off the B string and adding the pinky on the B string's 3rd fret.
    04:55 🎸 "Nutshell" is played by repeating the C chord sequence and incorporating sus 2 and hammer-ons, creating the distinctive sound of the song.
    06:08 🎶 The high G note in the song doesn't change the E minor 7 chord's essence, and the tutorial emphasizes the importance of maintaining the chord's character.
    06:49 🤒 The video concludes with a thank you, a mention of a previous tangent, and a request for healing thoughts for the flu, connecting through the theme of E minor 7 and D with an F# in the bass.

    Freakin AWESOME teacher. First timer on your channel and will continue to take lessons from you! I played clarinet for 7 years and being able to read music along with learning your notes on any instrument is key to success... I like to play guitar and don't know the notes so playing along by video is extremely overwhelming because other videos dont have the " breakdown" like you did. I'm trying to play by finger placement memory. Your breakdown of the keys played makes things much easier to play and doesn't seem so daunting. I appreciate your method and love this song! Thank You!

    • @RyanLendt

      wow thanks for all that Tammy! As you know, recognizing patterns lets you categorize things so you don't have to memorize nearly as much. Great to have you here, and good luck!!

    Very good tutorial, you expertly explained the strumming pattern! But I believe the C chord is actually a C add9, with a hammer-on on the D string for 3 measures and a pull-off on the B string on the 4th measure.

    Just earned yourself a new subscriber. Thank you so so much for that rhythm explanation. It seems so simple to understand once I see the answer, but I wouldn't/couldn't have come up with it myself. Way to few RUclips tutorial videos include the rhythm/timing - and they truly, truly should. Can't wait to check out some of your other vids.

    • @RyanLendt
      @RyanLendt  4 года назад +2

      I appreciate you GAL - thank you for that. I remember it took me two passes spanning 6 months looking at this song with a student to finally be able to articulate the rhythm. Of course in my focusing on that I neglected to mention that the C is more often a Cadd9 than a regular C (depending on the performance one refers to)... but hopefully everyone can figure that out. Oh, and careful not to eat too much fresh fruit. Cheers new friend welcome!

    Rather than doing a Cmaj you should do Cadd9 in place of Cmaj. I’m pretty sure that’s the chord that’s played on the record and it makes the song way easier because your ring finger is on the B string on the third fret for literally the entire song. For beginners I imagine this would hurt pretty bad at least for awhile, but you gotta build your calluses up at some point and this song is pretty fun to play so I’d say it’s worth it.

    Aic uses cadd9. At least on the unplugged version. It also makes easier chords transitions. If anyone cares.

    does it have to be detuned one half-step down? Can't I just use a CAPO and have it go one-step up or something ...? :/

    • @RyanLendt
      @RyanLendt  4 года назад +1

      it does if you want the correct voicings. you could capo 1 and substitute Dm for Em, F for G, and Bb for C - but I don't think that would sound very much like nutshell

I just learned to play the solos from the unplugged version. I don't want to put my guitar down. I think my wife is getting tired of hearing Nutshell everyday though...you know a good lawyer? 🤣🤣

    Pretty sure the C is played x32030. The part at 4:30 (in your video) goes from x32030 -> x32000

      indeed. i was so wrapped up in the rhythm the C thing slipped my mind. musically, any C major chord is just fine, so I still sleep at night :)
