Hey Guys, Pirate Dan here! I'm also in Germany, i was in Munich last week it was great. Now i'm in a tiny town called Ingolstadt! Would be great to meet up and make a video about the christmas markets together!! Hope you're having a merry December! :)
Kaiserschmarrn originally IS a main dish or in smaller portions it's a dessert. every Bavarian and Austrian kid loves it.... many do so all of their life. :) :) :) Traditionally, we have a lot of 'Mehlspeisen', sweet main dishes, that today are eaten as desserts. the one thing we don't do is eating Kaiserschmarrn for breakfast. I really love you are so open and tried everything here and you liked it. Greetings from Munich :)
I am from Munich, nice to see that you enjoyed our food 😀 The "Bavarian Cheese" is called Obazda, it is out of Camenbert, Butter and Paprika powder. A bit sad that you have been in typical tourist restaurants. In a little more secret places, the food usually tastes even better and is not that expensive.
I dont know man... I live in Daglfing and the three local places here I usually go to eat are as expensive as anything in downtown: Augustiner, HB, Schneider, etc...
Really enjoy your videos, especially the list of your visits and explanation about what you like and what you do not like. Those differentiate your postings from others. Keep up the great works !
Greetings from Atlanta at 4 am! You two make me so hungry and super thirsty! Is it wrong to want a beer at 4 am? Of course, I’ll keep drinking my Yorkshire tea! Sam, your belly is a badge of honour and think of all you’ve invested to get it looking that good! Haha! And Audrey, you still look like a supermodel! I love watching you two in Europe and I hope there is a lot more to come! In the event that I don’t get to speak with you, please have a happy Christmas and safe travels! Sean
Wowwww chicos, que sabroso recorrido!!, música y buena cerveza, que alegria nos transmiten, gracias!. Un gran abrazo para los dos desde el puerto de Talcahuano, Chile!! 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
I love German food! Maybe because my whole family is German -I'm Argentinian, though. That platter with the assortment of sausages, ham, smoked meat, raddish, cheese and pickles alongside some slices of whole wheat or rye bread was the favourite breakfast/dinner option at my grandparents' house. The emperor's mess, or Kaiserschmarrn, is a great option for cold days. I'm glad you liked everything you tasted! :) Great video, btw!
Please don't call our Sauerkraut cabbage. yikes. yes, it IS cabbage, but it is SAUERKRAUT - that is what we're known for lol. In any case, you made my mouth water as I live overseas. Glad you liked it all :)
It's a huge meal! The one we ordered was just the half portion and it was more than enough. And yes, the next video is all about Munich and the attractions. 😊
Yep, meals in München esp during Oktoberfest are really hearty and good. Surprising that I have been to four of the places in this video. (I've been in Munich only 4x times!) Thanks for making the video. Bit nostalgic right now since I can't travel.
Hey I'm happy to see all these restaurants again!! We had dinner at Augistener am Dom one night when we were there. Also went to the Ratzkeller below the townhall (more for the older crowd) twice and of course we went to the Hofbrau Haus for a rollicking good time one night. Oh we did go with some friends to Weisses with some German friends!! Amazing food.
Our first trip to Munich was back in 2022 and came to Laurin twice on that trip. Since, we have traveled to Munich 3 times and every time we come we make it a must to stop at Laurin to eat the Kaiserschmarrn, it is phenomenal!!
Absolutely love Munich! Tried pork knuckle myself in Hofbräuhaus and got mind blown. the victuals market is really beautiful. Need to go back for exploring more of Munich in the future.
Munich, ies ei paraiso de los amantes de la comida. No es solo comida y bebida es una experiencia como ninguna otra en la magica Region de Baviera. Gracias, por llevarnos con nosotros. Se bien mi amigo 😍😍 Harriet y Jim . Richmond, Va.
That festive atmosphere with the chants, the yelling, and the pounding on the table that you've experienced in the main beer hall is something that usually happens at any festivity among Germans (or even German descendants), I guess. 😅 I've experienced that so many times that I find it normal.
My goodness the foods look amazing at each restaurant guys 😍 the goulash and bread dumpling you ate looks hearty Audrey, loving the potato dumpling and pork knuckle too. Awesome experience
¡Me encanta viajar con ustedes! Gracias por compartir tan lindas experiencias. Saludos desde La Tierra del Sol y del Buen Vino! 😉 🇦🇷 MENDOZA, ARGENTINA 🇦🇷
A tip from a local ☺️ If you drink a Mass (1L of Beer) give it a handshake. Like put your whole hand through the mug to grab it better! You have to try the Weißwurst with a Breze in the Morning until 12 🥰
The Kaiserschmarn is more of a sweet full dish. There are many sweet dishes served as a full meal in Germany. Growing up in Germany we never had meat every day, especially for kids there are many sweet full dishes, pancakes, potato pancakers (Kartoffelpuffer), Dampfnudel (steamed noodle), Kirschenmichel (casserole of old bread and cherry sauce) all for the main meal of the day.

Augustiner is my absolute favourite biergarten/restaurant . The Edelstoff is my favourite beer as well as any Weissen I need to try Sam's chicken next time. The cheese is obatzda (yummy). The gelatinous sausage looks like presskopf and the red and white sausage is a blutwurst> Nice to see Sam enjoyed them. I enjoyed them when i was a kid and my Opa served them, Now,........ The Schweinehaxe looks on point, If you are in Franken you must try Schäufele i do love how you tell the prices. Thanks for the recommendation! Haven't tried Schäufele yet, but I just looked up some pictures and it looks tasty. And yes, we're trying to remember to include prices so people have an idea of how much they can expect to spend on a similar trip.

You foreigners always mix the krauts up. There is the Sauerkraut, which is sour due to fermentation in a jar for weeks. That was the one you got to the sausage (Stadtwurst). It is eaten after cooking it for some time, the longer the softer it gets. Then there is the cabbage salad (Krautsalat), fresh white cabbage made with oil and vinegar, that was the one with the pork nuckle. And in Bavaria they have the bavarian cabbage (bayrisch Kraut), white cabbage cooked with sugar. And of course, you have the fresh cooked blue or red cabbage (Blaukraut (blue cabbage) in the south, Rotkohl (red cabbage) in the north). Ja, and now we also have the coleslaw, but only in some fast food restaurants ;)
Everything looked good, but that pork knuckle was the star of the show, imo. I want one of those so much, but no restaurant here offers it, even the German restaurants dont. I found a butcher who sells the raw hocks, but I have to make it myself.
Samuel got a bit tipsy..;D By the way that red/orange spread was no "cheese"...it was a sourcream based spread made with Paprika powder as main ingrediant (the other seasoning stuff in there can be then very variant in amount and in use...some also add in the spread crumbeld hard boiled eggs and/or actual tiny pieces of red and green Paprika/bellpeppers and/or in tiny pieces cutted pickels in there as well) and the spread is called "Liptauer"...just for the record
Guys you need to do such food tours in other parts of Germany such as Saxony as well! German cuisine is incredibly diverse and different region to region!
Yes, Saxony food, especially during the Christmas Markets is very good. I miss the street food at the Dresden Streitzelmarkt at this time of year. Maybe next December?
Great, that you did enjoy the stay here in Munich! You visited the city when some restaurants participated on the "Wirtshaus Wiesn". They offered specials during the time period the Oktoberfest would have taken place. Oktoberfest was cancelled in 2019 and 2021 due to covid. The city's atmosphere and costs when visiting during Oktoberfest would be much different. I would always recommend to visit the city at other times (like you did). I'd also recommend to avoid restaurants around Marienplatz in the city centre. Too many tourist traps 😬 BTW Stadtwurst is not a specific sausage of Munich. It's from Franconia. So it's just one type of many sausage varieties which are available in the South of Germany. The cheese you ate when having the mixed platter (Brotzeitbrettl) was Obatzda. Its a mixture of Camembert, soft cheese and butter. You usually eat a really thick layer of it with Bretzel or bread. Just spread it on a bite and enjoy. Add onions on top if you like - but nothing else. Just some notes from a local 😇. I hope you don't mind. It's great that you had a good time. I watched lots of your videos in the past years. 👍
This all looked like so much fun! My husband and I are going to Munich in late September and are looking for a food and beer tour. Which one did you two experience?
Hola !!
Sam's chicken dish at Augustiner Klosterwirt looks really delicious, especially for the coating! Did you guys find out the actual name of that Oktoberfest dish? And indeed, the pubs/restaurants where you ate sure did look and sound lively! You see, I myself am fascinated by the contrasts of a peaceful and quiet atmosphere when I take on activities alone at home, namely exercising with a workout or yoga DVD or meditating with a guided meditation video or watching a movie on VHS or DVD; against the noisy, lively experience of walking around somewhere in Springfield, Missouri, or even a gathering at home.
Grüß Gott, Samuel + Audrey! It sure looks as if you both had fun, and I agree with your philosophy of getting a part of a place's vibe and culture through its food. However, if you were in Munich during Oktoberfest, as you say, where is your footage of the Wiesn? And why the ham and sausage on top of your Obatzda? I can't tell you how to eat your food, especially if you're enjoying it, but to truly experience a location through its food, wouldn't you want to eat the food the way the natives do?
just FYI: The "liver cheese" mentioned at the end, is neither liver nor cheese. It is a very fine sausage meat baked in a loaf and cut into slices: - thick (half an inch or more) if you eat it hot - thin (like baloney or bacon) if you eat it cold on bread.

It was this year - October 2021.
just FYI: The "liver cheese" mentioned at the end, is neither liver nor cheese. It is a very fine sausage meat baked in a loaf and cut into slices:
- thick (half an inch or more) if you eat it hot
- thin (like baloney or bacon) if you eat it cold on bread.
lived in munich 40 years and have NEVER seen that chicken, much less at Ofest.
I’ve heard them called Dutch pancakes. Eggy pancakes with powdered sugar and jam
Ooo, haven't tried those before but sounds good!
I think you guys are due in Seoul for another food tour?
