The Toyota GR Yaris has turned the hot hatch market on its head with its incredible 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine, all-wheel drive and 6-speed manual gearbox. Very few cars are this engaging and fast!
The BMW 128ti represents a new avenue for the German brand, mixing a turbocharged 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with front-wheel drive.
That GR Yaris with Ashley Oldfield behind the wheel is going to be incredibly quick off the line, does Ciro de Siena in the BMW 128ti stand a chance?

GR Yaris Rally - my car of the year 2021 and for the next few years! This GR Yaris Rally will become a true icon.
GR Yaris should be even faster. 7000 RPMs then sidestep the clutch. In Australia, 0-100 km/h tested in real world conditions at 4.8 seconds.
The Toyota is a weapon Toyota needs to take that drive train and spread it throughout their lineup of cars

The yaris clearly bogged off the line in the first race. BUT thats a real world result as not every launch will be as good as the second race.

Because the GTI this time around is slow.. and Das auto knows it.. Pity this is going to be the last generation in history, but I bet you they have deliberately done this to give way to a more potent one coming towards the end of its days.. Let's watch the space..

The Yaris would have embarrassed the gti's reputation too much for their marketing team to allow a standing start. Imagine the drop in sales if it does this to a top beamer...

Be keen to see the new 135 versus the GR now. This is impressive for the 128, but on some twisty roads/around a track....Yaris would be off into the distance.
It would also slightly help the 128 if it wasn't on Bridgestones, but PS4s...

At 2.14 seconds you can clearly hear the Yaris detonating /pinging definitely down on power .. it needs better fuel. If you know your know .. nice video as usual guys

Good for starters Toyota still needs to improve they should consider a automatic gear box but though interms of price I believe is too expensive I don't know the reason though
They developed the engine from scratch. The chassis, that is GR badge on that thing, they paid attention to detail bra....

That's basically what launch control is in all AWD cars

@@labourlawact7826 well in dct cars, it just dumps the clutch or sometimes slip it slightly to manage wheelspin (but that's mostly for 2wd cars). In reg autos it just loads up the torque converter

@@labourlawact7826 it's the same basic concept as dumping a manual and launch control in a dct vehicle - but the clutch ofc is computer controlled in a dct. Although some transmissions, like the 9 speed in mercs and Porsche pdks, have a seperate clutch just for launching.
I don't really know what Bmw was thinkin bout when they produced that shitbox of car...when would an 28 loose to a Yaris? That Yaris is a better car in every way possible!!

FLAT FOOT SHIFTING...honda boyz "who hasnt !!" seriously tho even tho his flat foot shifting the Yaris still sounds like its dropping revs on the change is that other audio or am I wrong? if so is the engine itself not allowed to rev up on gear change when holding the ACC down that then means the ECU is being a bit boring.

@@HBK180IGSE no just a question as a part time car tinkler i like asking questions to learn more i was watching with headphones on and didnt hear the engine rev up between shifts rather it goes down like his foot wasnt flat so it just stood out to me like unsolved physics questions thats just how my mind works. Could also just be gearing as he changed so fast it just immediately took torque and as its a 3pot it would explain it.

Go the whole hog and throw in some pot holes and tight twisty damp bends, I'd wager very little, if anything, could beat the GR in those conditions.
this test is a bit unfair for the BMW but bad first launch for the gr yaris.
It's disgraceful that this Toyota can beat this BMW, which has a bigger engine. It's not exactly power to weight either, the GR Yaris is simply a better engineered car.
