      Then there's the 'GRMN Yaris' that appeared in this video which is the track focused version of the regular GR Yaris. This one is using the Turbocharged 1.6L 3cyl producing around 260-280hp (depending on your country) and AWD.

      The difference in lap times is also something to note.
      They're doing it in a short track with the manual being driven by a professional driver who really hammering it down, getting a 0.2 difference is no slouch and the gap will be even bigger when you add other factors like amateur drivers & a longer track (which Toyota engineers claimed a 1 second difference in Fuji Speedway)

    Whoever at Subaru discontinued the WRX STi must be working at McDonalds by now (where he/she is likely saving up to buy a GR). Subaru's focus (though successful in US/Canadian markets) is now to triple the size of every model they make but their performance dreams are dead as Dillinger. Toyota are showing us their black hearts at this point, but they're brilliant. They're also the best carmaker on the planet.
    Comparably priced EVs are faster to 200km/h than most 'sporty' cars are to 100. Apples to oranges, I know, but it's the level of awe that some of the fossils at Subaru believe is due to 270hp is sad.
    Toyota's about 15yrs late with the Yaris/Corolla AWD hatches, but they're here. Perfect timing for rally-inspired hatches, perfect market - if you make GR's. If you don't make GR's you'd better be ready to pay more than double their actual worth. See what happens when car makers are in charge of the market? Interest rates go way up, production is cosmetically kept down, and people end up competing with dealer greed.

    HOW!? HOW is that little 3 cylinder thing doing that?

    • @AbrahamArthemius
      @AbrahamArthemius 5 месяцев назад

      That same 3-cylinder is also powering the Rally2 version of the GR Yaris and so far the GR Yaris Rally2 has been a potent car in WRC2 raking up podiums & wins even though the car just had its debut early this year up against other makes like Skoda & Citroen.

  • @corroded
    @corroded 6 месяцев назад

    For me the GRMN is really the one I'd lust for, it's the best looking but I still love that the MKI is a car developed with direct involvement of Tommi Makinen, literally rallying around Finland, which isn't the case for anything after the MKI.
    The original is also the homologation special, all the newer ones aren't as the body shell has been further modified (have a feeling the motorsport cars are based off the MKI)

For the extra money, I'll get myself a set of MCA coilovers, a spare set of rims and r-specs and a ecutek tune and be happy with that. I also won't have to sit in front of that dash...

    Heartbroken, had a GR Yaris on launch, pulled over to a patch of grass to stop and there was a blind sheer dip of about 45deg 1m wide beside a hedge that caught the back wheel. Car slid in and pressed against the hedge. Just damaged the wing mirror and the paint work. Had a look over it myself and couldn't see any other issues. Great I thought. Insurance were afraid that the carbon fibre roof might've taken damage, being structural and erring on the side of caution they wanted to replace that. Could not find a part anywhere. They phoned all around England and Ireland for every specialist including Toyota themselves (no part availability). Had to write it off for £35k. More than what I paid mind but I'd have the car any day. Gutted.
    Insured via Greenlight for what its worth, was hoping I'd have had a better go with them. They've been great for my cars in the past.

      Dream car, at an affordable price. I wouldn't want anything else frankly if I had all the money in the world to choose. Except maybe one of these new revised beasts! lol. I'm not a wealthy guy though, just on a software engineers salary in an area of the country where it's modest at best. Back to driving wee Mini's, always had a love for them (say what you will! :P those who get it get it). Got myself a last model year R53 supercharged Cooper S. Bags of fun but it's no GRY.

    Manuals are amazing. But if you use TrackMaster, and see how long you coast when changing gears, you understand why the PDK-type cars are so much quicker to accelerate.
    But who cares? The Manual is so much better and more fun to use!

    I still don't understand how other motoring journalists are getting 0-60 times of 4.6 seconds from the gen 1 Circuit Pack, yet any videos made in conjunction with Toyota can't seem to achieve that time anymore since the new variants came out? Anyway, if you own a gen 1, it's much cheaper to just remap than pay over 10k more for a new car.
