- Yes, the brand new series of Top Gear returns on 14th November to BBC One. So, to celebrate, here's a snippet of one of our favourite films from the last series. It's Chris Harris. It's the Toyota GR Yaris. It's some of the greatest homologation specials of all time. And naturally, it's sideways...

@@zenskain likewise! I went around the outside of an M2C recently with mine on a roundabout and then just slingshot up the carriageway with a huge grin on my face.
Yikes I would not commute in that special thing if you do 5 days a week. I want as many as possible to survive in good condition.
This is not a review. This is emotions. That shot of Yaris entering the league of legends is frikin fantastic. Only Chris could have driven and justified the Yaris to be in that league of legends.
Its a really good review, with hindsight as our guide here.... i own this car and the kudos it gets is very large to say the least. On the road, there is very little can keep up until you get to over twice the price, and thats the reality. What you have here, is a bargain basement lunatic. That looks after you.

If these cars are in private ownership, it's probably just a matter of knowing who the owners are. Said owners probably don't take much convincing.

I've become a fan of Jason Camissa on the Hagerty RUclips channel. I don't mind Top Gear but I'd get rid of the other two and team Camissa up with Harris. Both honest funny guys who know a sack load about cars and driving.
@242turbo not impressed with the presentator part, perfect presented but his car choices are predictable, I like the old top gear style much more, it’s crap but we would still buy it. The Delta is obviously the real car nut car

One of my favorite videos this year. Chris never disappoints. I just made an Audi Legends videoshoot with the Sport Quattro S1 E2 and I can't think of any car that is more fun to drive and gives better sounds than that. Bucketlist! Cheers

Drove the gr previously owned 5 toyotas through I wud give it a chance stick to my 2 ltr audi 8x...still yet to test hyundai i20 but I think 3 cylinders not for me..
03:33 Here's a fun tidbit. Chris mentions the EVO that Tommi Mäkinen "dominated the sport in". Same Tommi Mäkinen was the chief of the Toyota rally team during 2017 to 2020 before moving on to being a motorsports advisor for Toyota. He led the Toyota rally team to victory in 2018. He actively participated in developing the Yaris GR. I feel like that cements its place in that line up even more.

Tommi and his team develop Yaris WRC. And with him was Lasse Lampi who was test driver for Mitsubishi when Mäkinen won Championships.
there was an interview about him during the toyota rally team. the reporter is asking about what happen at the end of the 1999 rally gb when the corolla of carlos sainz blew the engine out just a few short meters to the finish line and if he is not gonna let the same thing happen again....
And Mitsubishi build the carbon roof.
In sweden when you buy a new car you get a license plate whit 3 letters follow by 2 numbers and then 1 letter at the end. When i pickt up my GR Yaris i got the best plate possible. TME as the 3 letters.
Hats off to Toyota! They still have it in them. 250BHP from a 3cyl 3 pot… remarkable! And likely bulletproof.

People forget that Toyota were very big in the late 80's and 90's in WRC. Carlos Sainz was one of their main drivers
With this GR Yaris, a Toyota proved that it didn't produce "just" boring cars. I'm enjoying these models with more emotion and soul, like the Gr Yaris, the GR 86 and the Supra.
The 6 cylinder supra is a bmw

@@alexander1485 It can't "just" be a BMW because there are specific badge-engineering laws that would prevent Toyota to actually rebadge their car. Also if you really think that Toyota would take their most legendary nameplate and just "rebadge" a BMW then you're being really foolish. Toyota did much more work and had way more say than what bandwagon haters like to say. Do some research. It would help.
@@nf1369 but it is though. Same chassis, same engine and gearbox, same electronics. Go check how much the design of the Supra had to be changed from the concept to the actual finished product because of restrictions that were imposed on Toyota by using BMW's platform. Also consider the fact that the Supra is built on a platform designed to be without a structural roof. So yeah, only the styling and the badging on the Supra is from Toyota
After watching endless car 'reviews' and back yard 'reviewers' i have to say when you want to see something professional and presented on another level, Chris Harris can do it in a t-shirt and shorts with his phone camera and its always epic. Thats the difference between a motoring journalist and youtube amateur host. Great to watch.
Thank Kiichiro Toyoda's grandson Akio Toyoda for this corporate direction 👏. The Gazoo racing thing almost never happened but he convinced the other exec's. And now we have a classic in our generation.
its about time we get some proper legendary cars made with the same passion as the previous decades. its been cars getting facelifts for what feels like about 15 years. except the focus RS. now we get toyota making hot hatches, and the new Z coming out, a flat plan 670hp mid engine vette, some fantastic cars the last year

Toyota got Tommi Mäkinen in to develop the GR - I think he knows a fair bit about what makes a "proper rally" car
best buy ever, Walther Röhrl did test it 6 month ago, his statement - "a dream for real drivers", it would normally cost 600.000 🙂
It's definitely epic to have all these real rally car with the road legal version at the same time, excellent job TopGear!!!
Been following the gr yaris for some time and till now no other anchor did justice to this modern classic ( in india we will never ever in a zillion year will get to even see these special releases ) .
The emotion , the feel , the mannerism almost made me cry . Kudos to the top gear team. CLearly on of the Best content for a while .

Here because Toyota Is unveiling the GR Corrola tonight and I haven't been this excited for a car ever. Lamborghini and Ferraris are cool and all, but as a 24 year old who will most likely never be able to afford one, these are the types of cars that get me excited. Can't wait!

The GR Yaris is a gaurenteed future classic!
Nobody in my family thought about getting an homologation car, such as the Lancia Delta for example, when it came out. Although my uncle had a Ford Thunderbird, so he was into fast cars, not even he acquired such a beauty as shown in the video. For my part, I own the GR Yaris (gen. 1) and love this machine; the noises it makes when shifting gears, the feel of the brakes (the steering one needs to get used to, for it is steering by wire, and that’s new to me), the way it corners, quick and agile in a city setting, a ton of acceleration, massive amount of grip, no essential buttons are hidden away in the infotainment system, dedicated climate control, etc. It’s fantastic and worth every cent. And btw, I’m over 6 feet (180 cm), and the driving position is not too high imho; the mirror is precisely positioned so that with one glance one can see out of the back! Drawback: the view to the opposite side of steering wheel is a bit hindered, but I’m already used to it. Cheers fellas, and safe driving! And may my uncle rest in peace, and watch his beloved Formula 1 in the heavens!

i think that's unfair. they work well together, as much as hamster and slow in terms of chemistry. paddy binning the diablo was the lowest point in top gear history but fred bungie jumping a car off a dam was legendary. right up there with the fiesta review.
I agree - McGuiness and Flintoff are awful. Chris Harris could do the show on his own and do a far better job than that pair of plums.
I’d watch the show if it was just with Chris, the other 2 sidekicks ruin the show.
Excellent video! To see the Yaris GR so appropriately among those other icons was beautiful. The saddest part for me is I live on the other side of the pond and will never be able to appreciate owning such a beautiful piece of automotive history. This video deserves many awards….truly great job.

This is the best Top Gear and one of the best car reviews I've seen since the old TG, the GR Yaris is a brilliant car, I had to watch this 3 times to squeeze all the goodness out of it. Epic👌👌👍
I met a bloke at the gym that has one of these, and took me for a drive. It's so much fun and engaging.

So comfortable and quiet on regular roads, its also a superbly unstressing daily driver.

To see the GR Yaris alongside legends I watched in the forests 30 plus years ago is iconic, Brings back the hairs on my neck.
There are certainly 2 cars missing in the line up from the rally legends and thats the Toyota Celica where they did rallying with and the Subaru Impreza. But still a great line up and great review!

There are plenty of those out already - even though you cannot compare a FW drive vs the AWD on the GR.
i20 is the most ugly car
@@MrSpoonFed the i20N makes the Yaris look hideous! The I 20n is nothing special but the Yaris is not a pritty car, I could never own a car I don't like the look of, if I bought a Yaris I would have to add a few aftermarket parts to butch it up and make it look tuff.
@@southaussiemotorsport7962 and lower the seat about 4 inches, change the steering wheel... Actually scrap the seats all together they are trash. Lower the dash to remove the unnecessary bulk, put some decent wheels and tires on it, give it another 100hp at least, stiffen up the suspension and its a car i wouldnt mind driving on the street every now and then

It was before youtube when I was watching Jeremy Clarkson's iconic battle vs. the Lambo with the Evo 15 years ago while wating for my brandnew Evo IX here in Germany. Today I'm sitting here watching Top Gear and I cant wait to get my brandnew GR Yaris. Seems that some things never change. Luckily! Stay healthy!

I just love when a expert like Chris mentioned the Fiesta ST, I have a US 14 version on a Cobb stage two tune, sticky Mitchlen tires, it’s 8 years old with 98,000 miles on it and runs great, I’m 74 years young and love driving on 3 wheels. The Fiesta Flash. 🤙🏼🍺🍺🍺

I own one of these, if you’re considering buying one, then do not hesitate. The car is astonishing.
Speed, acceleration, handling, torque, driver control and feel are all perfect. It truly is an incredible car. People seem to give it a lot of respect too, lots of thumbs up from other drivers, lots of admiring glances and some people virtually applaud it as you go past them. People love the GR Yaris, and rightly so, it is incredible. My dream car, get one while you can,
