You should always be worried about the gun blowing up. Always. Plenty of mistakes, accidents, and circumstances can lead to a failure. You should always be aware of the ammo and caliber you're firing, and the condition and behavior of the gun. You could accidently get .300 blackout mixed in with .223/5.56mm and have an explosion. You could have a cartridge that's too long and fires slightly out of battery causing an explosion. You could have a low quality reload with imminent case head separation, cracked brass, or over charging. If you have a .223 chamber, 5.56 NATO ammo is too hot and can cause problems over time. As for condition, you should inspect the gun before and after a range session and when you clean it. You might leave a bore patch in the barrel by accident after cleaning it. Next time you go to fire it, the patch has become a bore obstruction and the barrel may ring (at best) or explode (at worst). You should observe the behavior as you fire it. If the empty cases are swiped on the case head, cracked, have blown or severely flattened primers, punctured primers, etc you have big problems to sort out with excessive pressure. If you have what appears to be a misfire, and manually eject an empty case, you need to open the upper and remove the bolt to look down the barrel from the rear and make sure it wasn't a squib load. A squib means there was no powder in the case, and the primer was the only thing that pushed the bullet out of the case. The bullet travels an inch or 2 down the barrel and stops. If you simply chamber a fresh round and fire it, the rifle will explode. A squib projectile will destroy every single gun that experiences one if another bullet is fired into it. I'm not trying to scare you, but at the same time I am. I’ve put 1000 rounds through mine in a day, with semi auto fire, this gun still works like normal. If you’re running this full auto, the results will be like this video. This gun will last you a lifetime.
impressive most impressive, this is by far the best performance meltdown of any AR15, not Daniel Defense, LWRC or Palmetto state has measured up to this Smith and Wesson M&P AR15
I can see it now: For sale: S&W MP Sport 2, new picatinny forearm, new gas tube and painted dark earth camo $250. Only shot one day at my backyard BBQ.
I read somewhere the standard loadout for a soldier is 270 rounds or so. So basically this gun can blow through your full loadout, and two of your fallen buddies' loadout, nonstop on full auto before it breaks. If I'm facing a situation that requires me to burn through 3 times the amount of ammo that the Army feels is necessary for a professional soldier to carry I'm pretty sure I'll die long before the rifle.
alx lek I have one of the original models that came with a TROY industries free floating quad rail, and then a newer one with some generic Free floated quad rail that is included with the newer 5R rifling versions of the 15T. Is in a few of the videos on my channel.
Just picked mine up today! Suck it Pelosi, Feinstein, Schumer, Cortez, etc. I fear bought it because in Minnesota where I live they seem like they want to start following Commiefornia's example. By the way, Smith and Wesson has stayed in business this long for a reason!
I sold mine and instantly regretted it. So I went and bought another one! Best decision ever, you can't beat this for the price! Great AR to start with. Ready to go out the box!
Watched this video 2 years ago. Went and bought the sport 2 as my first AR. Have never had any problems with it, and would recommend it to anyone especially as a first.
I have one and it jams every single time I try steel case ammo. You cannot put a bipod onto these hand guards. It’s cheap for a reason. Buy a better AR
Do it if you havent already. Dont buy into the "entry level" yes as far as furniture they are. But internals it is NOT "entry level" just upgrade it with higher quality parts. You will still end up cheaper than buying a super "high end" ar.
Dylan Spencer got my son one about 6 months ago for $490 (570 with added magpul furniture) and we love it. Already put over 500 rounds with no issues. Can’t recommend it enough
That is amazing. My dad had an old Colt in Vietnam with a rust pitted barrel When they would get back to the firebase to resupply with fresh magazines and ammo, they would all fire their old ammo into the jungle. He described his barrel as being red hot, the gas tube was white hot and it started cooking off rounds as they would chamber. So he hit the mag release, let it fire the round in the hot chamber and then laid the gun down to cool off. The barrel ended up drooping so he was issued another M16.
Yes, doing a comparison between the S&W M&P 15 Sport II and Ruger AR-556 is a good idea. I chose the M&P 15 over the AR-556, because I liked its features. I think both rifles would be comparable in quality and this kind of test.
Love mine. First real AR-15 and it came with 3 loaded 30 round mags,2 pmags and 1 authentic metal mag. Got them all loaded already with green tips, black polymer tips, and some hollow points! I got a good deal on this one! It also has the OD green magpul furniture equipped with a grip on the hand guard as well as a bright green laser and a flashlight! Can’t beat it! I also had already been training with the AR platform on our ruger 10/22 with the archangel 556 conversion kit. Surprisingly the AR-22 feels slightly heavier!
Couple of favors / ideas to ask.... 1. My lever gun gets raging hot after about 5 rounds. While I know it isn't possible to melt down a lever gun (because it would take some insane engineering to make it full auto), could you do like a set of 5 rounds, 5 rounds, 5rounds, 5 rounds and show the barrel getting hotter on a lever gun? Again - less about destroying it but more about understanding how much heat one round generates and how heat moves through the gun. 2. On your AR melt downs, any thought to zeroing the gun and seeing how accurate it is, then bursting 200 rounds (or maybe 500) and letting it cool and checking for zero again to see what the impact is on the system? Then another 500 round burst and check zero again? 3. For those of us following at home, can you put a counter in the corner that increments up each time you dump a mag? I'm not talking a round for round count but 30, 60, 90, 120. I usually lose count about the time you strap in the snail. Thanks for all the great vids guys!
I bought my first AR S&W M&P sport 2 because of this video, shot it many times, very accurate rifle. Then I went and built another one because BETO said he was going to take it.
Just bought one today...chose it because it was...there...figured it was just a cheaper entry level rifle, but after watching this melt down and hearing how impressed the guy was...I’m all SMILES😁
I love my M&P Sport II. I wasn’t planning on being a Smith & Wesson fan but it just happened. My carry gun is an M&P 9 2.0 and in my opinion it shoots much nicer than a glock.
I've had one for years! Great gun. I'm a big fan of S&W fan in general so when I was looking for lower priced AR platform rifle it was a no brainer for me. No regerts!
Indeed, one of the most underrated, and one the best built, durable, and accurate AR-15 5.56 (at an affordable price for us, working middle-class Americans) is the S&W MP 15 Sport 2. "Gucci" rifles are expensive, however, truthfully speaking, most civilians do not need those fancy kind of accessorized rifles. Go Smith & Wesson M&P 15!!! 💪🏼😎🇺🇲
As of today, PSA has the M&P15 Sport II with the S&W vertical grip w/flashlight for $569.99 I'm not a salesman for PSA or anyone by any means, but I've been considering buying this one. Thanks for the video, from a fellow veteran!
A LOT of rounds through my M&P Sport (V1). It got me through LE Patrol Rifle Operator training and years of LE service. I have, and will continue to, trust my life to the M&P Line.
My first AR. Bought it in April last year, only took it out to shoot once put a 150 rounds through it glad to see how far it actually goes before failing. Feeling really good about the purchase now.
Doing research to make my first AR purchase, and sure glad I found this video. Only got into pistols a couple years ago so definitely still learning. Any regrets with yours a few years later?
@Brian_B300 nope not in the slightest. I bought many new parts and built it up mostly to my liking. And even bought a second AR and made a retro M16 build. Both guns have several thousand rounds through them and very few malfunctions
I have come to the conclusion, after owning 2 now, and seeing even more reviews, that the SW MP15 is not a budget gun anymore and has graduated to being a duty grade rifle.
@@southernfried19 no. I also have a Daniel Defense M4A1. The barrel is much more durable to heat. The SW MP15 starts to lose accuracy after 3 mags. Start to miss the same targets on the 4th mag. The DD it accurate after 6 mags of heat and still hitting a 5in plate at 200m on thr 7th mag (last of a combat loadout) with M855 and M855A1
@@southernfried19 also, on a rifle similar to a DD, a custom build with same barrel quality (4150 CMV not CHF but heavy SOCOM profile, free floated handguard, I saw it go 37 mags before it failed in this same type of full auto mag dump. Was 1075 something rounds
@@fujimi715 In what scenario is a person going to shoot 37 magazines worth of ammo? It's all irrelevant. In a real-life scenario, these rifles are going to do the same exact thing. An enemy isn't going to know the difference between taking a direct hit to the heart or taking a hit 1/4 inch under it.
@@southernfried19 I should explain the accuracy. I don't mean a minor shift in zero. I mean completely missing targets. 5in plate at 200m, 66% silhouette at 275m and full size silhouette at 350m. Both the MP15 and the DD have an Eotech and 3x magnifier. Easy hits on first mag. But with the SW I was not making consistent hits after the 3rd mag. With the DD after the 6th mag it was the same. That means a solider in a fire fight would miss an enemy at 350m. Well within the range of an M4. That's why a military grade rifle is 4150 CMV
Glad to see I made a good decision! I just bought one at a gun show a few weeks ago because I had heard good things about them, ended up picking up an M&P Sport II with a Magpul handguard, M&P foregrip w/ light, gun case, and 2 30rd magazines. Already put an EOTech red dot sight on it and I plan on putting a Magpul adjustable stock on soon, can't say enough good things about it!
This is insane!!! I’m extremely impressed with the level of abuse this rifle took before failing. Truly a testament to the quality of Smith & Wesson manufacturing. Awesome video.
Love my mp sport II Ive shot thousands of rounds through mine both steel case and brass and its never jammed and still shoots like the day i bought it.
I just grabbed a used one today for 600 bucks with upgrades..quad rail and foregrip..nice ergo rear grip and aftermarket stock. It looks like it's never been shot. A quality AR that normal people can afford. Can't beat that.
I’ve had m M&P 15 Sport II for years and could not begin to count the number of rounds that have been through it. Never one problem at all. I love it. I enjoyed the video.
I got mine close to 7 years ago almost by accident. I didn't care nuttin' 'bout rifles except my pristine looking 94 Winchester .32 which was gifted to me, blued in the 50s, and made around 1913. The greatest gun salesman at that time, Barry Soetoro, led me make my first and only AR purchase at a shot show. Adding a sling, Daniel Defense light brace and light, and a red dot unfortunately increased the weight of my Sport II. That's the only downside for me but I also haven't used it that much since I bought it. I also got an Anderson lower when I purchased my Sport II. I have yet to build another AR with it but hope to build a premium one that's very light.
thank you so much - this is my first purchase and i'm so happy that you qualified this amazing tool for us! Be Blessed and thank you so much for your service, and keeping us FREE - in Gods Name.
@@qouavang3646 the ar isnt that much newer. And it's probably because they are running domestically produced AKs which unfortunately will not be as good as Eastern Euro ones.
@@MrClaysta Technically the AR in the form of what the M16A2 and the AKM are about the same age aren't they. Though that custom AK tested last a hell of a lot longer and after some judicial field repair he was able to get it going again.
@hitman hit And so what, the HK416 is a German ripoff of the AR15 with the AR18 piston system. It's not surprising the AK platform's biggest rival outperforms it. Seems only the Americans and The Soviets ever built a gun worth using.
I know this is a 3 year old comment, but I was just telling someone the M&P Sport 2 is an excellent rifle, but I’d definitely recommend dropping an extra $30 and immediately swapping out the handguard for a basic Magpul one. The handguards S&W use on this rifle have literally no heat shielding - they’re just 2 plastic molds in the shape of a handguard that snap together over the barrel. But that’s honestly the only major complaint/flaw I can mention after having owned this rifle for about 5 years now - it’s been incredibly reliable, chews through every brand of ammo I’ve ever fed it without so much as a hiccup, has never given me any malfunctions or weird issues at all…. I know it’s considered a “budget” or “beginner” brand, but I feel no hurry to replace it anytime soon, and that says a lot about how much faith I have in it, considering I’d potentially bet my life on it.
I've had an M&P sport 2 since I turned 18. I've upgraded a few things on it but nothing internal that would change it's functionality. I have nothing but good things to say about it!
Ya that's what I said. The barrel and gas tube are the only thing being tested. I want to see 2 or 3 budget guns all tested at the same time....with there components. Then you will see which guns choke and fail.
Just think how well it would have done if it had an aluminum free float hand guard. I believe that the heat from the plastic hand guard accelerated the overall failure of the barrel. Pretty good gun for the price point.
Hopefully he'll redo the meltdown as you've requested. Without the handguard burning and effecting the gas tube/ports, he maybe able to get a few hundred more rounds through it. It held up pretty well for the barrel being made from 4140 steel! They'll last a long time under Semiauto conditions. It's a great buy!
Nothing wrong with 4140 steel several people have put well over 5,000 rounds through them and report that they are still running strong. As far as the factory hand guards I believe he leaves them on purposefully. That way it is a test of the upper in it's factory trim to give the people who will buy and use these rifles a better idea of what they could expect if they really felt like hosing some rounds through their rifle. If it melts after 2 magazines that would indicate it's a poor quality handguard. Looked to me like this one made it several hundred rounds before becoming a problem.
Whew! Just bought one this afternoon! This makes me glad I got one with three extra mags! My third firearm ever and my first AR! Should last me a while since I’ll only use it at the range and will never ever put it through THAT kind of abuse!

To me the most amazing thing about these meltdowns is how many hundreds of rounds AR-15 and AK-47 rifles can chew through without jamming.
“It’s getting a little warm…”. It’s straight up on fire lol.
That's impressive performance. For what real people would need, even in a "zombie apocalypse" situation, this AR should be plenty reliable.
Zombie double tap .no issues

Dylan Spencer got my son one about 6 months ago for $490 (570 with added magpul furniture) and we love it. Already put over 500 rounds with no issues. Can’t recommend it enough
Ha! Nice word play.
There are definitely better ARs like the HK416 or FN M4 but the MP is the best of the cheap options.
That was freakin impressive!

Yes, doing a comparison between the S&W M&P 15 Sport II and Ruger AR-556 is a good idea. I chose the M&P 15 over the AR-556, because I liked its features. I think both rifles would be comparable in quality and this kind of test.
Very pleased with my purchase. I've fired 500 rounds through my m & p ar 15 with no issues. Love this gun.
Does PCM X-tac 55 grains work good on your M & P AR 15 ?
People with big money always putting down the cheaper AR.Ha Ha
My first ar15 is a m&p sport2. Glad to see it hold up like that! Thanks for the cool video man!

I have come to the conclusion, after owning 2 now, and seeing even more reviews, that the SW MP15 is not a budget gun anymore and has graduated to being a duty grade rifle.
I guarantee if you run a stress test on some 2k+ rifle, it will fare no better than this one. "High-end" AR's are a waste of money.

This video is the reason I went out and bought my M&P Sport 2 last year. Thank you.
I got mine close to 7 years ago almost by accident. I didn't care nuttin' 'bout rifles except my pristine looking 94 Winchester .32 which was gifted to me, blued in the 50s, and made around 1913. Adding a sling, Daniel Defense light brace and light, and a red dot unfortunately increased the weight of my Sport II.
Picking mine up tomorrow. I feel better about it now. Super impressed. Great video, fellas.
I've had an M&P sport 2 since I turned 18. I've upgraded a few things on it but nothing internal that would change it's functionality. I have nothing but good things to say about it!
So it’s basically just a barrel test? Because different bolt carrier and lower?
Dynamite Gaming exactly my thought
Yeah, and a lot of the comments r "what a great gun!"
It's the same for every meltdown video... A semi-auto meltdown wouldn't be very exciting to watch it would take forever to fail.
Ya that's what I said. The barrel and gas tube are the only thing being tested. I want to see 2 or 3 budget guns all tested at the same time....with there components. Then you will see which guns choke and fail.
It's a good test. The lower means nothing. It's all about the gas tube and barrel. Cheap ar is pretty good
I'm thoroughly impressed at the m&p!!! It did much better than my psa. Good job guys.....as always
Just think how well it would have done if it had an aluminum free float hand guard. I believe that the heat from the plastic hand guard accelerated the overall failure of the barrel. Pretty good gun for the price point.
Joe Sinegal I've been trying to tell him this for the last 5 meltdown vids. He doesn't hear me.
Let's test the rifles, not the handguards flashpoint.
Yea I’d like to see if that makes a difference cuz I got the 15T model w quad rails.. I think the gas tube is a little bit longer too
Whew! Just bought one this afternoon! This makes me glad I got one with three extra mags! My third firearm ever and my first AR! Should last me a while since I’ll only use it at the range and will never ever put it through THAT kind of abuse!
That's my first ar and still my favorite in my collection of them.
