- Big Change After Running Gravely Mowers for 11 Years! Why it's HIS turf uses Gravely mowers, zero turns and stand behinds: Part 1. So those of you that know I have been running gravely mowers since day one. So this is actually my very first mower. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. And even if I tried. Well, I have tried my dad won't let me so he co-sign with me We wouldn't partners on this back when I was 18 years old, we bought this mower and guys it has been awesome for my company. So that was back in these days. Okay y'all want to see what days, those were.
That was back in the lawn for tuition day So way back when, and it was a lot of fun. And so as the company grew things expanded, we got us ourselves into a pro turn 148 that we've been upgraded put a 52-inch deck on I later upgraded and bought a second one for my other crew. We actually this past year we just sold that 148, and we're looking to buy us another pro turn 152, or possibly even z x 52. We don't know yet. But that is something we're going to be demoing this year to figure out if we like it or not. So, I am excited about that. I've owned over nine gravely mowers. And don't get me wrong. They've all been great mowers, but they weren't all great for my company. I would like to share with you why. So the first mower that I can really think about that was like a bad purchase on my part was there 200 series. It was a 60 inch and had the big dump from the seat bagger on it... Complete with huge blower out to the side, and guys I thought okay, you know I'm a supervisor and I'm going to be able to dump grass without getting up and be so efficient. I'm not going to be losing those seconds on the trailer doing that. And I think I was a little foolish because the smaller was here just like driving a tank through their yard. And so as I'm driving this tank their yard I'm matting the grass that I'm just beating it down and beat it down, and I was like okay, maybe my yards are a little too small for this because we had really started capitalizing on that quarter acre size a lot. You know $45 to cut that type of thing. And so, I made that purchase and it wasn't the best purchase for me. And so I started thinking well what can I do to make this cut better I started looking at walk behinds because standards really weren't a thing at that time. So I said, Okay, I'm going to buy a walk behind. I'm going to get the sulky, I'm going to get the little side bagger the metal cage bagger, and I'm going to come from a different direction of a stand the grass up, then so we went in there with rakes we'd stand the grass up we turned around, we made it with this little mower going the other way and guys the mistake I made with that lower was that it was belt driven and not hydraulic. So, with the belt driven mower, what happened was is on hills I would start to slip so 36 inches you don't have a wide base you don't have enough weight back there. And so you're not really getting good traction anyways. And then once you put it 200 plus woke up 200 plus 200 plus pound man on the back of that. It did not like hills at all so I used that mower for around 200 hours, and proceeded to sell it.

Bad boy. Best value in a commercial mower.
A walk behind is the best machine and safest for hills in my opinion.
I like what you're about, your attitude, and temperament. You seem to be an awesome guy to work for. Happy mowing this season man!
Thank you Jeff. I appreciate that man. It's going to be a good season.
Just got me a 48 ZT hd. My first zero turn. Looking to get a little business going next spring. Thanks for the videos.
I'm glad they have been so good to you!👊
Thanks bro. Me too and I'm pumped to be working with them.
Im 100% gravely man here. First gravely i brought back in 2004 44inch commercial. I love that mower till this day. I do big commercials propertys like nursing home and apartments complex and more. I have two 260 pro turn and 152. All my mower commercial grade. Love your video and keep up good work guys. God Bless !!!
My Gravely Professional 20 turns 35 and still looks and runs new, gotta love em...
That's awesome
Hey man great video great presentation inspiring good job looking at a Gravely 42 in for my 3/4 of an acre I think I'll be happy with the Gravely
I got one dude... keep a look out on the front spring for wear... only thing I've had a problem with.... its a beast.. even on hills..love it!!!
Awesome that's great to know. I'm excited about their new 32 inch
I have an Ariens self-propelled mower. It’s 30-years old and never an issue. Belt, spark plugs, gas and oil. It’s typical Ariens built like a tank and just works! Looking at the zero turns now.
Great video, thanks!
Thank you. And that’s awesome. Send me a pic of it on Instagram. I want to share it with their company.
Congratulations! What an exciting announcement. It really shows that it is so much more than a mower.
It definitely is. I love their machines and meeting the people just affirmed how I felt about their company prior.
@@itshisturf23 There really is nothing better than that!
When I bought my new Scag V Ride 2 it was between it and the Gravely. The only problem was the closest dealer was more than a hour away from my house. Keep up the good work!
Dealer support is everything. And thank you. I'm trying to.
Cutting with Andy, I think the 36 pro stance is an awesome little time saver. Loads of power too. Ive said it time and time again, Ed Wright and Steve Ariens are always representing their products, all of the others are shown off by salesmen. That says a lot about a company.,,,,, LOL I like the hat turn at the end!
I couldn't agree more. I follow headright and I like this Todd set I had a chance to talk to him for a while and she is this past year and honestly had no clue who he was lol until afterwards. Super cool guy. As far as Steve Aaron's super humble just all-around good guy. I'm excited for this year
Very helpful info. Thanks!
A good supportive mower dealer is what is going to help make decision of what brand you going to buy, I heard gravely is great but my local dealer sells exmark and Wright
Your absolutely right. You can make money with all of these. My exmark navigators are great and ed Wright is a stand up guy. Plenty to choose from with those two brands.
That hat flip was smooth! I was gonna give you grief about that little fuzz in your beard and then you turn the video into a beautiful heartfelt message 👍🏻👍🏻 I need one of them hats!
I dont know what your talking about lol.
it's HIS turf You have a white piece of fuzzy wuzzy dust at the very bottom of your beard. It hangs and shows. No biggy. Better than booger on the nose and mustache😁. Anyhow, in Williston Florida we have a great dealer Frankie Lane. He has a great crew and lots of happy customers. Yeah, you were smooth moving when you turned your prize Gravely hat around. God Bless you. I love the size of your metal building. 40 by 60 by any chance?
I demoed a 36" and absolutely hated it. Glad you have better luck with yours than what I did. I hated the grass path it left
That sucks. I'm replacing my push mowers with it. On yards I'm mowing weekly and every ten days. I'll still have my navigator and my pro turn 152
I'm so happy for you man! You really deserve it! I am very excited too! Gravely makes amazing machines
I know brother. And thank you. They are tanks. Super well built.
The rustic loft in your garage is nice looking.
Thank you.
Cool man I have small yards here in Vegas so I don't need big mower's. But I would live a small stand on.
This 36 is great for my 10000 sq ft and less yards.
Blake I sware by my 48 belt driven mowers there light on lawns and work great for my lawns and I have ran sit downs with other people I have worked for and think mite after helping my buddy this year going and getting stander I like them and can’t like them really just wanna up grade to newer 48 walk behind
A wider frame would probably do better. I do love the stand ins though. I've never ran any other belt drive besides my 36
Blake, I came here from Top Notch's channel after seeing the video on his page of you two at the Gravely place. Good to see they've been good to you. I was curious what you thought of the Pro-QXT. I may get one for myself as a future homeowner because I see it like a Troy Bilt Flex, but better quality. Depending on my future grass amount, it'll be my main mower and then some. The one thing I want to see it have is a chipper shredder to take care of lawn cleanups.
I have a Gravely 36 Pro Stance. I've had it for 5 years. Run the heck out of it. It is runs strong and tough.
I love mine.
Started watching your videos and love them friend. We're also brothers in Christ. Will start praying for your continued success my friend.
Thank you so much brother. I appreciate that. If you need anything don't hesitate to reach out 5016174654
Dont know if you guys cares but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the new movies on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my brother these days xD
@Albert Calvin Definitely, been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself =)
@Albert Calvin definitely, I've been using instaflixxer for years myself :)
Great information. I was wondering why you would choose a smaller mower for efficiency .I have ran the 460 pro-turn for 8yrs. Hustler for 4yrs. The gravely hydro's have been the sailing point for me.Way less problems with hydro-gear. Though I had to to change one hydro unit because no one sold a $10.00 bearing nor would hydro gear give out a part number for the bearing to me or my dealer.😡 So it ended up costing me $1200.00 and now I have a nice HYDRO-GEAR DISPLAY in my shop !! But I do like the way Gravely continues to upgrade there mowers and fix issues. One thing that I have never understood is how you make money with PUSH MOWERs in our business. I have seen really small lots in the Florida keys use push mowers but they make up there money with property maintenance and trimming. Thanks for sharing .
The 36" will primarily be replacing my 21 inch exmark push mowers. But I'm about weight on lawns and manicuring and that's why I like my exmark navigators. Then for long term durability I run th 52" for open lawns. 60" mowers are too big for our lawns because most are 6000-18000 sq ft. I have a few larger properties and my 60 is great for that.
Ive run gravelys since i started. Started with a little zt2040. Now i do run exmark walk behind, i also run a zthd48. Overall build is a heavy mower, just alot of small details overlooked. Bad springs, pulley alignment, melting a fuel filter, and deck needs baffles but they have been discontinued as accessories.
Talking about durability, my middle brother bought his ZT HD 60 in 06, mows 10 acres with it, and it's still going. It's been a hoss!
They absolutely are
Had my gravely for 10 years only problem I ever had was a blown hydrolic hosr last year
I’m glad to be an ambassador along side you bro! It’s going to be a great year!
I know bro. And thank you so much. Honored to of been your +1
it's HIS turf you say that like it’s past tense..... LoL 😂
I was trying
Kevin, what happened to the skid steer? U still got it?
Some kind of bromance going on...
I bought a Gravely ZT 6 years ago. Last 12 months $1000 in repairs. Just got it back and it is broke again.
I'm looking at a Spartan 42" or maybe a 48" and comparing that to a Gravely same sizes. Problem in Gravely Australia is supply of machines and parts is below par particularly in rural towns.
Great video
Thank you.
Hi Blake. I'm so glad I found you, Gravely experienced professional. I have Gravely 1334 Pro walk behind lawnmower. It was working sooo good, no problem. I did maintenance every year. I'm using only ethanol free gasoline too. Suddenly, this year my mover start to loose RPM after 5 min of working. I disengaged blades and put in idle and it's stabilized. I started working again and it happened the same - just wanted to die. I checked fuel cup, spark plug - everything is good. What the heck is happening? Can you give me some suggestions? Dealer wanted around $200 just to bring it in and check.
Enjoyed this video man. I like the stand-ons too......but I prefer my Lazer Z on those much larger properties. Keep the content coming!
I'm trying to step it up and get more content out.
Thank you.
Why do u like lazer z acme mowing and lawn care
Nice video man! I am in Montana and run a toro grandstand and a toro direct collect 42. It’s a killer setup
I've actually never ran a Toro mower.
The toro direct collect is the same as an exmark navigator
you got me intrested
Lol good deal
I have a commercial gravely mower but it beeps like a back up beeper but never stops although all seems fine. What can cause this?
I have a 60" grandstand. It's a beast on hills! Maybe try one🤷
Ok. Is that a wright?
@@itshisturf23 no sir toro grandstand. Very similar to the exmark vantage. I can't recommend it enough. The turbo force deck with it's on the fly adjustable baffle leaves a fantastic cut!
Sounds like you sure knew how to pick out Mowers way back then 😂😂
I know right. I had no clue about GIE or "demoing" mowers. I just bought what I thought was good lol oh but how things have changed.
Demo it in wet grass the belt comes off yesterday the pulley bolt broke it has 57 hours on it getting it fix and then I am selling it but if it's not broke it does work good in back yards I love gravely I just don't like the 36 Rob's ODD Jobs like your videos have a great day
Thank you. I appreciate that. I'm highly considering the new 32" pro stance
What's up my guy long story short I've kinda started over and I just bought a zt2444hd it's like brand new but older like your 60 in in the video. Is there anyway to speed that thing up? Lol it's nothing like the wright commercial I had before on speed
Just run across your video. I'm a retired truck driver and have a couple of acres to take care of. I watch about three video channels on lawn care and have learned a lot. I'm in southwest Missouri. What state are you in? I just subscribed and look forward to watching your videos.
Thank you I appreciate your support. I'm in hot springs ar. If you ever need anything let me know. 5016174654
Gre as the video
Why Gravely over Exmark zero turns or walk behinds?
Hey Blake Tim Williams hey man I own a gravely 52 inch HD and its awesome man, I agree Gravely has an awesome product! I love their customer service. I believe I am going to get another one. I am impressed with their product thus far. See ya soon bud.
Yes sir. And I can't wait. They are built great and stand behind there product. INTEGRITY IS WHAT MEANS THE MOST.
Thank you for choosing Gravely, Tim!
Ex mark are great
I love them exmark navigators. Did you buy all 3 with 42 or 48" ghs decks? Which engines are on all 3 navigators? I previously owned a Walker mb20/48ghs unit back in 2010. Like it but those sorry drive belts on them are way too narrow and pop easily. I weigh 355 lbs. So I sold that mower in 2012.
I've owned three with a 48 inch deck and 2 with a 42 inch deck. I believe I have a 27 horsepower Kohler on them
My uncle ran the zt hds in his business the only problem we had was both of there frames broke in the same spot.
Oh wow. That is crazy.
/if you have an emark ,ferris or scag dealer close check them out. Its way better and more efficient to stand in between the wheels. Ive had both style and you have so much more control over a maching that yoy stand inbetween the wheels and not behind it. Also the Gravely cut quality just wasnt there for me and I ran about 5 different units for years. Lots of double cuts with the gravely.
My gravely dealer is an exmark dealer I run 50/50. You do have a few mods for cut quality. I'll do a video on that this season.
@@itshisturf23 I've done them all. I've tried all blades "highlifts, gators , lowlifts, adjusting the baffles... they cut alright but still dont compare to other brands cut qualities. Def built like tanks tho.
You
I just sharpened the blades on my gravely. I had the front end lifted in the air. There was a strong smell of gas. When done lowered it back on the ground, now it wont start, any suggestions?
Reset the blade kill switch and the he brake? Is it trying to start?
I bought a brand new 44 and the hydros are leaking kinda irritated
Do you do your own maintenance on your mowers or do you take them somewhere to get serviced?
We do all of our own maintenance unless it's under warranty.
Have you tried walker or wright mowers? And where do you dump your grass?
I haven't. I really want to. I have a big hillside and compost station we dump at the shop
@@itshisturf23 oh ok thanks!
I run two walkers and absolutely love them but how to you efficiently deal with getting rid of the grass? We spend 30 minutes a day unloading grass.
I'm about to build a truck special for that. But luckily we have a big compost station that I shop and I have a big Ravine Hillside that we can dump into as well
I've never ran a walker but I want to.
I have never run a navigator so not sure how they compare but I have had very good luck with mine. They are definitely a finish mower, same as your navigator but the cut quality is amazing. My customers are always commenting on how good the cut is. I’m in eastern Washington and most all of our nicer lawns expect us to bag. Right now we lay down a tarp, then at end of day we twist up one end of tarp and attach tow strap, then attach other end to Walker and drive forward. It will pull some loads of grass off quickly. But I still wish I had a better way.
Do you mulch with these ot discharge everything?
Typically mulch.
Hey Blake! Enjoyed your video. We are thinking of buying a zero turn. We mow around 5.5 acres of lawn. If you were going to buy a Gravely for this which one would you buy? The dealer we are talking to told us about the Gravely but, thought the ZTHD would be a good one. I need your option? Thank you from MO!
I think it will handle what your mowing no problem. Its a step up from my hd 2660 and that machine did great on our 5 acres as well as mowing commercially for the first 3 years
@@itshisturf23 thanks so much for your help!
How about a vlog on your Navigators we run them was a Walker guy for years but love my Navigator. Great vlog by the way
I'll do one soon. Maybe next week
I run a walker and love it and never operated a navigator but have seen them being used and it seems to be heavy, slow and lacking the cut quality . Just wondering since you have ran both, What do you love more about the navigator
Jerome i find the speeds so close it hard to tell the difference. The bug plus i found was the deeper deck the walkers always clog where the deep decked Navigator doesnt as much. In wet grass both will clog. When I demoed the Navigator i ran machine on yards the the Walker always clogged when i ran the Nav ut went through yard not clogging. Also i sometimes let the deck clog up the just mulch the entire yard wit decent results if i want better just double cut even th hough im double cutting parts of yard I'm saving dump tine
@@Mr.BodyByFisher I actually filmed a video today on them. I need to film an in the shop walk around but I'll put it out next week
@@itshisturf23 Thanks I will be watching
Ferris z3x 52" 37hp
Just bought a 2019 gravely 34 compact pro. What do you think about them?
I had a compact 44 and I loved it. My buddy Jared with JC lawn tips has one. Check out his channel he talks about it alot.
ruclips.net/channel/UCwDwleINWTJ38H0NiO66UsA
Congrats on your new mower!
It’s not as easy as you would think to drive one handed fast and be able to turn back up and all that while trying to blow at the same time... a straight away is ok. But a lot of turns or you miss something it’s not gonna go exactly as you are thinking. I have over 200 hours on a Ferris srs36 and tried it a few times.... I mostly end up pulling up blowing then jumping on and go to the next.
I gotcha. I appreciate that. I'm looking forward to demoing or borrowing one for a few weeks in the spring.
I'm replacing a Husqvarna 46" riding mower with a ZT this year. I'm torn between Gravely and Bad Boy. Both are trying to sell me up on repairable hydro transmissions, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $800 to $1000 to be able to repair rebuild something that might not be going bad on me anyway. There's a lot of extra expense in changing filters and hydrolic fluids, that I would not even have to deal with on a sealed system. Plus, I don't plan on mowing over three or four acres a week. Thought about getting the rebuild-able though and just not changing the fluid at regular intervals, say maybe once every two hundred hours. That way it would be heavier duty, and kind of like running sealed anyway, plus it would be bigger tires. What do you think about that idea? Gravely has a better warranty, than Bad Boy. I'm looking at the Bad Boy my magnum vs the ZT Avenger. Both have Kohler 7000 725cc engines. But I believe the Gravely has the Kawasaki FR691V. A ZTXL 52" vs the Bad Boy in 54" Which do you feel is the better engine? Thanks! < GP in ARKANSAS
What did you end up doing?
Funny my ex boss years ago said running the blower standing or sitting on a mower is unprofessional and was yelled out. Work smarter not harder is my moto.
No way. Gta work smarter.
200+...start pushing mowing vs riding. Just kidding. Thanks for the video. Any advice on mowers for smaller yards? 36" decks wont fit through most of the yards I mow.
Wow. 36 is too big? Yikes. You may want to go with a Toro or exmark 30" or ferris 32"
@@itshisturf23 yeah Sacramento has small gates. There's a few I did that were under 30" wide. Trying to get out of push mowing though as my legs don't appreciate it much haha
33 years in the biz I'll never ever go back to gravely garbage in my experience
I’m sorry about that
What did you pay for that ProTurn 48?
6700 I believe. Bought at fleet pricing
My gravely lost power on one side, just slow, good fluid levels in the hydro do you have any suggestions?
Check and make sure the hydraulics isn’t released on the side
Tools for a time mowers
I have had Gravely for the last 20 years, since 2016 it has become a chip junk that I would not touch with a 20 foot pole from on
My last brand new unit was in 2016. I'm just now about to get more new ones. Have you switched mowers or just stuck to older mowers
it's HIS turf I have a2008 44 inch extra durability and love it , I got 3600 hours on it and put a new motor last year
I bought the same 2016 and I have a 240 hours on it because it never run and it take Gravely 2 or 3 weeks to get back to the dealer that sold it to me .
I got so frustrated with them that I have bought 2 new toro since and love the toro .
And the service I get .
As an old farmer we were brought up on Gravely . They now are a disgrace , Ariens has ruined the Gravely name
great vid!!!! lots of good info! but the little white fuz in your beard is bothering me. darn beard hitch hikers
Haha. I know right. Didn't catch it until video was being edited. Sorry bro.
Good vid! Is Gravely still trying out Yamaha on some of their machines?
Thanks. I've seen Kawasaki and Briggs
And Kohler
at 6 minutes "when my guy finishes mowing 50 or 60 yards to be able to jump off and grab a weed eater" holy cow, you must have some energetic guys
Lol. Subdivisions. 4000-9000 Sq ft each.
they are junk bolt holding clutch on broke off twice
Grizzavely
I'll take it you don't have a wright dealer.lol if you do demo one and take it to the hill accounts. I'm sure you would do the swap
No Wright dealer in the state
@@itshisturf23 boy o boy Mr ed Wright needs to receive a call on this subject.lol. either way have a good one brother.🍻
Sounds like you waste a lot of money on equiltment
First let me say i run 2 gravely mowers. For most part, i like them. I bought a new one last year, in 2 hours already had carb issues. In 4 hours the fuel filter melted to crankcase. The dealer tried claiming it didnt get that hot. So i showed him. I contacted gravely because of this could present a lethal issue. I got an apology from them. Thats it. When i was at the dealership a few days ago just to pick up blades for an old exmark metro i have i told dealer about a spindle issue i had. He contacted exmark. The replaced spindle for free. Keep in mind my metro is over 10 years old, they still stood behind it. My NEW gravely now eats wheel motor belts, i have remedied the fuel filter, carb issues, and breaks a recalled tensioner spring that they never contacted owners about. So now im selling my gravely equipment going to exmark. . When gravely wont back their products while under warranty, and take the time to fix faults before it hits shops, they become a liability
Wow greg I'm sorry bro. I have never had anything like that happen in 11 years of running them. Where are you located?
it's HIS turf im in Virginia, ive been running them for 10 years. When I bought this last one, gravely really dropped the ball on it. I was really shocked when I contacted gravely directly.
This guy just doesn't have the experience and knowledge which because he is learning. Basically the video Shares his mistakes but it will take him years before he can give any sound recommendations. Video is a waste of time in my opinion.
To all youtube producers:..please keep the #@$!! camera a long ways away from your face and don't keep turning around and around!##$%

I'm sorry brother. Hope you find the other content less motion sickening.
