    I always cut grass taller in the summer.... Those are great mowers, Best bang per buck from what I've seen on the market. The levers have adjustments for forward travel speed, they're allen bolt/set screws. just back them out a little and the levers will go farther forward. one of our machines was set way off from the factory.

      That’s exactly the advice I was looking for. A guy could probably find that information himself if he looked a little closer at the owner’s manual...

    I have the same mower HD 60 I bought new 5 years ago. I would buy another one just like it only with a better seat. The only mechanical problem was having to replace the starter couple of days ago. That is pretty good in 5 years and 219 hrs. I have the Kohler 7000 series motor. I also am mowing 2 + Ac's and it takes me about an hour or so. Highly recommend this mower.

    Cut shorter when it’s colder and keep it long in the summer. I cut mine at 3.5/4 all year. In the fall I start to drop it down to 2.5 a little bit at a time to reduce the snow mold

    I just bought me a hustler fas trek 54 inch. Yes a zero turn will spoil you. My mower has two gas tanks 4.25 per side. 22 hp Kawasaki, I can switch between fuel tanks. I've got USB ports.
    My mower will go forward up to 10 mph. But I've found it's just about impossible to do that because of bumps.
    I think you made a good choice. My seat is spring adjustable for comfort.

    I live half way between Indy and Ft. Wayne. I have always mowed my lawn about 1.5” in the spring, then as the growing of the grass slows in the summer, I take it up to 3”over the course of several mowings. I have always had a John Deer. I am getting the HD 52 or 60, hopefully by Monday. 🤞I went out looking today because after 30 years, my mower deck is about welded out.

    You asked, so here's my answer. I cut my lawn at 1.5 inches AFTER the first cut of the year when it grows before it's dry enough to cut. I might initially cut at 3" then next time 2" then 1.5 for the rest of the year, regardless of temperature (Buffalo NY area here). My customers all want 2". I have a '20 ZTHD48 (fits through more gates than a 60" would), and love it immensely! Enjoy, wait til you see how your lawn looks when you cut it at 1.5"...it'll look like a golf course! You're cutting it way too high, it doesn't look like it's BEEN cut.

    As for the 'commercial' mowers your neighbors have, this will outperform and outlast most of them! The 'ZT HD' line is 'heavy duty residential/light duty commercial' but I used my ZT HD for my business! Don't let the marketing fool you, you got one hell of a mower!

    I cut grass lower in the spring while the grass has plenty of rain and is in grow mode. As the summer wears on, the temps go up, the rain decreases I raise the mower deck...a good bit...like to the 4.5 inch level. Most people cut way too low in the summer and unnecessarily brown off the grass. Keep those blades sharp.

    I love my hd 44. I am so glad I went for the hd. I was thinking xl. We have a rural lawn, a little bumpy, not a golf course lawn, so I mow at average speed 3.5. John Deere has a great mow tracking app. It keeps stats on time, speed, and even records gps track. I mow at 3.25 and it looks great compared to before Gravely.

    I have a 2022 Zt Hd 44inch and my first impression is… it’s a beast. Coming from a ztx42 it’s night and day. The only thing I don’t like is the seat, I seem to slide on it a lot it doesn’t have any grip to hold you in place. And when you try to float the deck sometimes it stays in transport mode kind of annoying but maybe a learning curve other than that it’s awesome

    • @TorqueWagon
      @TorqueWagon  2 года назад

      It usually takes me about an hour and a half to mow everything. We put a pool in this year, which means I have less to mow but more to mow around than before, so the time it takes is about the same. I’ve also got some tighter spaces to mow now, so the 52” inch deck would probably be nice at times.

    • @TorqueWagon
      @TorqueWagon  3 года назад +1

      That’s a tough one. If you’re worried about grip at all, or you’ll have to mow when the grass is wet, I’d go with the gravely, or at least the Ariens Apex model. The wider wheels/tires give you a little more grip and the deck is 5 1/2 inches deep instead of 4 inches. That extra room in the deck is handy when mowing damp or wet grass. I mowed in a steady downpour the other day with the chute down in tall grass and it never bogged down at all.
