    Anybody else would have given it up as a bad job, but not you. Looks great. Love the colour of the lamp shade. Also your stand looks great. Amazing job.

      It was tempting to just give up on it... but there was still enough there to be worth saving!

    The wiring seemed odd having the metal work all wired to neutral or was that earth with a blue wire? Looked dangerous? Great job though! 🧡

    • @OldtoNewRestorations
      @OldtoNewRestorations  3 года назад +1

      Thanks!
      That was the earth wire (green/yellow) connected to the metalwork. Live (brown) and neutral (blue) were wired to the bulb holder, which is insulated from the metal. 👍

    Try pressing it into an old socket next time…. And Kroil is a much better penetrating oil. Soak all those fasteners several days before attempting to take them apart….give the oil time to work.

    • @OldtoNewRestorations
      @OldtoNewRestorations  3 года назад

      What difference would a socket make?
      Kroil isn't available here, I think that's just a US thing. I usually use 3 in 1 penetrating oil, I've found it to be pretty decent.
      I left everything soaking for a few days before I started work.
      Thanks for watching!

    • @OldtoNewRestorations
      @OldtoNewRestorations  3 года назад +1

      Do you mean the lamp? It's an engineer's/machinist work lamp, you usually see them bolted to industrial machines like lathes etc. I made a base for it because I wanted it free standing 🙂

      The 'putty' is actually filler. It's just filling in a few small pits for cosmetic purposes, it's not there to hold anything together.
