I've found that playing Salmon Run is the best way to get acquainted with other weapons. Other game modes can feel scary considering most players use weapons they know they're good at so playing with people who most likely aren't using their mains either makes it way more fun
As someone who's probably sunk at least 100 hours into Salmon Run in Splatoon 2 and 3 combined, I really do feel like I know how to use any weapon (besides chargers) at least decently well.
Funny thing is I am semi-decent with chargers in Salmon Run, hitting a lot of bosses and making trickshots I always overshoot or undershoot someone with multiplayer, and always end the game with 2-4 splats
I'm an inkbrush main, just because the combination of splat bombs and killer whail 5.1 creates a really agressive kit that can work in a bit larger range than the inkbrush is capable of. And the satisfaction from splatting your opponent up close is something no other class can give me.
I picked up chargers in this game and I'm genuinely surprised of how well they fit my play style. Definitely glad to have given them a try since my variety opened greatly with them.
That is true, though for me I've always been scared to use them since I didn't experiment back in 2 as much. With this, along finally using motion controls after finding the right settings, I started picking them up in this game and it feels great to use.
All the roles in a couple of words. Skrimishers - take fights, don’t lose them. Slayers - go in and try to get as many kills as possible, but try to keep yourself alive in certain situations (like if you don’t have Quick respawn.) Backline - Apply pressure to the enemy team. Don’t try to get a lot of kills, that’s the slayers job. Support - Supply aid to your teammates by taking space or painting the map and giving them a supportive special. Hope this helped!
I wanted to be a roller main because I loved the idea of rolling everyone on my path. Now as an actual roller main I know that rolling is actually the least you're gonna do with a roller, it's still incredibly fun tho.
I'm really happy that you and others like ThatSrb2DUDE and HDHaZmY make these kind of videos. It makes great material to show/link to friends and coworkers that are getting into Splatoon 3. Specially cause all of you cover such a range of various topics and tips and game modes.
I’ve mained Inkbrush since the first game, you didn’t cover it in this but I think it’s a bit of a hybrid between frontline and support. Good at being an assassin up close, but while you’re waiting for that opening you also have really good paint output, a bomb, and a displacement special
The Inkbrush can be classified as a mobile Skirmisher/Slayer hybrid, a Rat (according to Gem at Squid School), or a Scout (for Team Fortress 2 fans). Its user's main job is to draw attention away from their teammates and to oneself by flanking, sharking, harassing, and annoying the opposition, all while staying alive for as long as they can without leaving their teammates in an extended 3v4. The longer the opponents have to pay attention to the Inkbrush user, the better. The worst thing an Inkbrush player can experience is being safely ignored by the opponent.
@@DaDoc540 Sums up my thoughts. Inkbrush is my most played weapon simply because of how aggressive its kit allows it to be, which allows me to constantly harass the enemy team with the weapons fast killspeed, splat bombs and killer wail 5.1 while maintaining map control thanks to how well it inks. It gives me an adrenaline rush that no other weapon in the game really gives me, although my right index finger is killing me after playing with it for a few hours.
I play it mostly as a skirmisher, if not, slayer. I tend to do better with splat counts, and I often get the popular target or damage taker medals while also not dying as much as others on my team (sometimes dying the least), which I interpret as me being excellent cannon fodder. Well, not really cannon fodder if you're not getting hit, but you get the picture I don't really use the special from a distance that much. I tend to use it at a close range and chase after the person, or one of the people, it locks onto.
Beyond just unlocking weapons, Sheldon Licenses also heavily incentivized playing every weapon for a decent amount of time. While I did fall back into my usual mains of Mini Junior and Ballpoint, I've also really enjoyed playing Blaster and weirdly enough Flingza Roller. Once I can play Flingza without the extreme guilt of using a Tenta Missiles weapon, I'll probably pick up it's next kit, especially if it gets something like Burst/Tristrike or something.
Same here. Like you said, there's just something about the license system that helps give players that incentive to try out new weapons. Like you, I also went back to a main weapon of mine (I mained Clear Dapples in 2 and now I came back to regular Dapples) but I'm still getting interested in different types of weapons. Before I settled on Dapples I had tried out Range Blaster, Flingza, Splatana, Stringer, and now I'm looking for some abilities to help me try out Nautilus. Even if it doesn't turn out to be the weapon for me, I was still able to check it out at the very least.
I love flingza as a concept but I can’t get the hang of it. It feels like at medium range the vertical flick never one shots, and when enemies get close I can’t break the muscle memory of jumping before flicking. I’m working on it though
We all agree about what a rapid blaster does but we have like 5 different labels we use to describe it lol Glad you made the video, it's great to see a different perspective on the same subject, and it's all great advice, especially urging people to play all the weapons and pick the ones they enjoy first and foremost.
really awesome and helpful guide! i realized throughout watching that i already have a really subconscious support playstyle, even though i used to always play frontline. great start to learn about what makes you an important part of the team!
Hey, I'm just getting into Splatoon and I wanted to say this video made a massive difference for me. Literally, my win rate jumped immediately and my points per match went from usually being on the bottom of the team to now usually being at or near the top of the entire match. What made the difference was finding my role, a weapon for that role, and rethinking why i'm playing. I was listening to you list off the roles and thinking "Ya maybe i can do that.... ya maybe that one..." Then you got to support talking about maintaining paint and map control and it instantly clicked like "Oh yes, that's it. That's my role." So I started looking up support weapons, and the Custom Jet Squelcher also really clicked with me. With that settled, it FINALLY gave me a direction to go towards with gear, which has been another element of the game I never knew what to do with. And finally, it helped me figure out my playstyle... staying very slightly back and prioritizing pushing up with map control. Basically, this video helped all the loose puzzle pieces align so I could start making sense of what I'm doing in the game. I'm now performing better and enjoying it more. Thanks :) EDIT: Oooohhhhhhhh my god nevermind it's the Hydra Splatling this shit is amazing
I've really loved dipping my feet in all with different weapons, it really changes your perspective of the game and how you play your main roles. When you can sit back and observe the match, it really makes you question how often you rush into fights you probably shouldn't have lol. Or when you've played support, you quickly begin to realize the value of someone controlling the map through paint or helping you with difficult picks.
Great video! Super positive and informative. If I may add something: for players that are overwhelmed with all the weapons in Splatoon 3 , I highly recommend also making an effort to try each of the subs/specials and pay attention to which ones you enjoy using. I started playing Jet Squelcher in Splat 3 because I really liked having a "teammate enabling" kit with Angle Shooter/Ink Vac. Nowadays it's become probably my favorite Splat 3 weapon, even though the main weapon was initially one I was less comfortable using than the sub/special.
I'm new to splatoon in general so this video is super helpful! Also, I'll give this a go, I'm still figuring out my playstyle so any advice online is a godsend
As someone who played Splatoon 1 from release until servers started dying, and after years I finally jumped straight into Splatoon 3 and felt extremely rusty, getting to know all the new weapons, subs, specials, and different playstyles and strategies has been a bit of a challenge, but this vid helps understand things a bit easier, so thank you
Welp, I main the sloshing mashine because it's a very good kit but I also like it's role on the field, by always trying to pick safe fights from a distance. But maybe I got it wrong according to Chara :D Edit: What I got, is that I should try more weapons to see if they fit me even more
I kind of classify myself as a "Frontline Map Controller" with a Bloblobber. I like to paint a line to the enemy base to annoy them and set up Super Jumps for my teammates so we can keep each other alive. The enemy team is too busy repainting their base to deal with the empty turf that my team is working on filling. Edit: I just watched a bit more of the video. You described the Bloblobber as useful as a midline, and while I do agree with that recommendation for general players, I also like to go in headfirst and use the arc from the slosher mechanics and the sprinkler to ink the "safe" platform on the enemy base.
This is helpful! I find myself rotating roles depending on what I feel like playing that day, but I tend to play skirmisher/midline roles because I like to annoy enemies while having enough mobility.
I picked up Dapple Dualies when I first started and it's been my go-to ever since. It feels really comfy for me to play and I love being able to help out my team with tacticoolers and squid beacons to get them back into the action at a safe place.
It's strange to think that in this game, I'm more inclined to try a weapon I'm interested in than stick to what I like. For example, in 2 I usually stuck with normal Dualies and Soda Slosher, but now I'm finding myself testing out things like Squiffer and Squeezer that I wouldn't have given a second thought before, and it's VERY fun
It's interesting to hear about the basic roles of weapons in the game as a low-mid tier player who doesn't really play shooters other than Splatoon. I'm not entirely sure which weapons fit which roles, but it's a good thing to keep in mind when experimenting with weapons. I'm recently getting back into Splatoon 3 after mostly skipping out on 2 (although I played a fair bit of 1 years ago), and I'm realizing that I'm just not really the best at playing frontline usually. I guess I'd say I'm more of a support player who focuses on turfing, although I also enjoy taking advantage of sniping spots with weapons like splatlings, so I guess I'm more inclined to be an anchor than a frontliner. I'm just not always reliable at killing or staying alive is the main thing.
I've found myself playing 2 weapons a lot recently. Splash in turf war, and Hydra in ranked. I used to be a roller main, and still enjoy playing rollers, but I can't deny the results I've gotten with Splash and Hydra either 20+ splat and 1k+ turf inked in games.
Back when I first played Splatoon 2 (my first Splatoon game) I didn't know which weapon to pick. But I eventually tried out the dualies, and they just clicked. I've been using them ever since. They fit my playstyle, which is, as I call it, a "rush in and hope I don't die" playstyle.
I used to only play aggresively with mainly basic shooters. I then got more invested in Splatoon in between 2 and 3, and I am doing a lot more experimenting with playstyles. Biggest example of this is I used to hate using blasters but now I always main rapid during tower control, playing aggressive supporter. It's definitely been more fun changing up what weapons I play and this video gave me a lot of good advice for ways I can continue to experiment
You're super knowledgeable about this game, and I think it'd be really interesting for you to make whole videos delving into individual weapons! Especially the Dynamo Roller; it seems like such a cool weapon, but I just have no clue what to do with it, even after this video.
Could you give a list of what you currently consider for each role? Maybe a 'tier' list? I'm curious what people are finding effective so far in the higher rankings. Is the best comp typically one of each type or does it change by mode?
As a Flingza Roller main, I love being a skirmisher who invades the enemy base whilst keeping them at bay while my team closes on the center. I feel like rollers are more usually support, but it's just so much fun to play aggressively.
I completely agree with the "trying weapons thing" and I really think the Sheldon license system is good for it. I spent way too many triple tickets on weapons I really wanted, now I'm trying weapons I already got to get the licenses to buy new ones. I'm kind of surprised how much I like the Squeezer and Jet Squelcher because I always thought I hated shooters but now I'm willing to try some more. I'm improving with chargers too!
This helped explain why I struggle with skirmishing. While I love skirmishing and weapons that lean into that, I’ve never felt comfortable with slayer weapons and direct fights. So not knowing how to do both made me weaker/less comfortable on skirmish weapons
Tri-stringer also works pretty well as a long-distance support weapon. It's harder to land the one-shot KOs than with a charger, but it does much better at chipping and laying down ink all over the place, and it can hit people behind walls like an Explosher.
I really appreciate this video! I used to play Hero Shot exclusively because I thought I liked it, but I found myself getting worse at the game until I picked up Bloblobber and ended up doing much better. You should always try out different weapons even if you _think_ you’ve found the right one.
@@baz00kaboy The latest patch fixed the ink output. Now instead of massaging the other team I'm furiously splatting! Last night I reached my highest splat count - 12! (That's probably the norm for everyone else. 😂)
@@PrincessNicEssus nice!! personally i hadnt noticed the ink output bc in 2 id just run a bunch of MPU so it's like nothings changed for me LMAO my highest kill game with the blob is probably about 12, too
For myself, I use dullie squelchers (idk how to spell things sorry) and the octo brush interchangeably, so I got confused on what my role was. Thanks for helping me find my role in the game!
I really want to be good at chargers, but just standing there drives me crazy. I also can't aim with those things. The stringer is my favorite weapon in the game because it allows for a bit more mobility and diverse plays. Also, despite it arguably being harder to land 1 shots with, I have a much easier time with the tri than with a charger.
A tip for picking up other weapons is Salmon Run, since you'll need to be at least decent with a wide variety in order to succeed there. I used to only play short range aggro back when I started with Splatoon 2, but SR made me pick up the Hydra, and while I'm nowhere near as good with it as I am with slayers, it's a nice change of pace when I don't feel like rushing in. I'm happy it's so good in 3, but I'm worried it might get nerfed before long...
I like the ending bit of advice. I love playing support and backline, Tenta Brella and Ballpoint are two of my fav weapons. But after beating storymode I didn't want to leave my Hero Shot Replica (The Cooler Splattershot) collecting dust so I decided to try it and I LOVED it. So now I use it too, and am trying to learn the slayer playstyle.
Kinda wondering what you would call my playstyle. I use a standard tri stringer, but play very aggressively, being a bit closer to the battle than a true backliner. I focus on assists, and if there are none to get, I paint.
I've learned to love the tri Stringer a lot, both the one shot and explosion kills r super satisfying lol. And I enjoy how ppl seem to underestimate stringers and try to get up close to me but r just actually just giving me a free kill
I personally like all weapon types and play them all so this doesn't effect me to much but it gave me a new understanding of weapon roles and uses, so thank you for this well made video.
I'm the kamikaze slayer who dies valiantly and takes the enemy down with me Or that's what I want to be, I'm still working on the taking down the enemy part. Anyway great video Chara!
Being someone who hasn’t played since Splatoon 1 and just being absolutely confused as to what I was looking at for a lot of this stuff, this has been a big help.
I constantly switch between weapons, but I find I do the best with carbon rollers and splatanas. I like them because they are somewhat rapid, have decent damage, and ink pretty well. I use the carbon roller because I swim up to someone, and then squish them using the roller. I like the splatana because I can use its range to attack people even when they're trying to run. I feel kinda like I do best when fighting but also covering ground.
Im either A: A luna main - About 13 (Splatoon 3) Or B: a Sploosh o matic one - The most I’ve gotten so far (SPLATOON 3) about 15 There’s also C that was actually way better in Splatoon 2 to the point I got the ghost inkilubg stamp next to my weapon Splattershot, scored about 28 kills in a round
How I find my playstyle and weapon: Go into a random match with different weapons picked half by style and specials/subs and half by design. Realize I don't know what I'm doing using any weapons. Somehow still get most turf on all sides and in general?? Option 2: go to salmon run, cry because I got a charger and i am definitely not good at the chargers. I don't know what I'm doing but I sure am good at not knowing what I'm doing.
the absolute best advice this guy and other high ranks gave was trying out different things and seeing what works for you, and that's so true with how i found my main, splatlings, mainly the heavy and hydra. never in an million years did i ever see myself wielding these guys because if i were to go back to splatoon 2 and tell my old self that we would be splatling mains in splatoon 3, id probably laugh at you because i mainly played salmon run in 2 and i was basing my uses of the weapon with how i did with them in salmon run, and pretty much all the splatlings except the mini can be a chore to use, especially at professional rank. so when splatoon 3 came out and i figured out you could test weapons before buying, i sat there and demoed literally every weapon for like two hours, and the moment that clicked with me with the heavy was when i was able to take out a dummy pretty far away and had pretty good movement with a run speed up setup. so i took a risk, used my last golden license to get the heavy and the rest was history. a week later i saved up licenses for a hydra and now thats my main, and i use it as a frontline backup of all things lol. i always go with a teammate or am right behind a push. if my teammates come across something problematic, like a sniper or someone with a special, i have Booyah bomb to take care of it or to help out my team. and if things get dicy, i fall back to a position i can hold like a choke point or vantage point and spam this way to get my teammates to jump to me so we can regroup quickly and get right back into the battle since im usually not too far from the front lines. (in practice, it works well with my competitive friends, randos, not so much... 🤦♂️ but hey, that's competitive splatoon for ya 🤷♂️)
Your own experience is very similar to my own when it comes to weapon variety. I used to play a more supportive role in Splatoon 2 with .96 Gal but nowadays I'm enjoying trying backline with Hydra and E-liter. Splatoon 3 has given me a lot of opportunity to experiment and its helped me enjoy the game more. Keeps the game feeling fresh
Lately I’ve been in love with the .52 gal. It’s a fun skirmisher/support weapon. I spec heavily into splash wall for helping teammates and boxing in opponents.
Another tip I find really useful for finding a role/weapon you like is thinking about what you gravitate towards in any other games you play. I'm a competitive platform fighter player and in those I always find myself sticking with the more aggressive zoner type character like Ult's Banjo or RoA's Mollo, and that playstyle is really close to the more kill-heavy midrange weapons I tend to enjoy in Splatoon
I had never tried the Hydra in Splatoon 2, and I've always thought about it being kinda slow and clunky for me, but in Splatoon 3 I gave It a try and now is one of my favourite weapons out there. I main It when there are high maps with good control points, and I enjoy that role. Even that, I still use more other weapons like Tetra-Dualies or Splash-o-matic, but trying and discovering new forms to play is quite fun, I really recomend you guys to test more weapons that the ones you always use. Being able to dominate more options will let you be capable of adaptating in more situations and to win more. Great video, Pro Chara!
As a splash-o-matic user, I work in the mid to front lines to push back the enemy team and create openings for my team, I use burst bombs as chip damage and to annoy the enemies so they focus on me while my team paints the ground and I use the crab tank to create openings and distract the enemy team
I thought this was gonna be a like a online test where you add up your points and find out which weapon you are most suited for, still very engaging though, one reason you are one of my favorite youtubers
Splat1 I played a ton of Aerospray, whereas Splat2 I focused more on dualie class, and now I still play Dualies, but have been really liking Splattershot and the new Tri Stringer as well. It’s fun to expand and try out all new stuff.
ive picked up a lot of weapons since I started about 2-3 weeks ago, brushes and sloshers are some of my top weapons but brellas will always be my no.1 💖
I main the roller as I hate chip damage. GIVE ME A SHOTGUN TO PUNISH ME IF I AIM HORRIBLY. Why use constantly machine guns and track when a two hit KO is hood enough?
I'm an Undercover Main, though I do every other weapon whenever I am bored with it, and I do have a preference for weapons like the Octo Brush, Splatlings and Aerospray. I mostly focus on being a Skirmisher and a support by depending on my team to do the actual fighting while I paint, chuck bombs about the opponents general areas, and use specials to just end enemies or to push into certain areas and paint about them before coming in closer and closer to the opponent.
That last part at the end I think is the most important thing to take away from the video. Trying new things and not arbitrarily limiting yourself to one role or weapon is really important. I’ve played Hydra Splatling since Splatoon 2, but finally tried H-3 Nozzlenose recently in 3 and found that I like it just as much, despite their playstyles being pretty different.
Something I feel is really helpful for people to also understand is that just because some weapons or kits might be considered better that doesn't mean they will work with your play style. Right now my most consistent weapon has been the under cover bella a weapon I have seen near the bottom of most people's tier lists
I like that you mention to not get stuck in your weapon pool because I made it my goal to Superfresh my weapons, so I can “retire” them from regular battles so I can push myself to use other weapons
back in splatoon 1, i used to main classic squiffer. splatoon 2 was bloblobber. idk why but it just feels alot harder to choose in this game. i am arguably best at slosher and tri stringer but i. enjoy weapons with high mobility and lots of kill potential
This is a really useful video, and regarding trying different weapons: I've probably had 15+ weapons that I "mained" over time in Splatoon 2 before I found the Range Blaster and focused really hard on playing it because it synergized well with the natural play style I enjoy. Even still, I constantly rotate different weapons in and pay attention to when I'm feeling burned out on playing one. An example was playing TONS of Sloshing Machine when 3 came out and I'm kinda.... over playing it for now xD I think the weapon diversity is one of the huge reasons I love this game! There's nothing more satisfying than picking up an E-liter and practicing it enough to where you can legitimately surprise yourself at how decent you can play it when you might have believed otherwise. Also all the skills you learn on any weapon give you some cross-training for your other weapons and help you understand how to fight them yourself.
I'm glad you made a video like this, I was desperately in need of one. I currently am mastering dynamo and splatanas, but I was and I still am a Range Blaster main
I really love to play Dualie Squelchers, I love that I can be supportive but also aggressive in a pinch. I can help with slaying and skirmishing if the team comp lacks aggressive weapons, but in the very next game I can be a stand in pseudo anchor when the team comp lacks range. It has so much versatility and a huge bonus is the amount of movement options the weapon gives as well. It just feels like my perfect playstyle and I'm almost at 5 stars with it already. I've also enjoyed playing splatlings/chargers, and the Sloshing Machine and inkbrush, which feels like totally opposite roles but it makes sense that while I enjoy both of those and am not as good at either, my ideal would land me at the midline/hybrid in the Dualie Squelchers. This guide makes me think I should try some of the other supportive/hybrid weapons like Bloblobber and Splattershot Jr.
weapon preferences can change drastically. I mained tri-slosher in splatoon 2 and I main splatterscope in splatoon 3. I have kept some weapons from 2 like sloshing machine and splattershot, but I have a much wider range of weapons now. also my aim has improved significantly out of absolutely nowhere which has allowed me to main charger. I always liked the playstyle, but just that I couldn't aim.
I spent all of splatoon 1 and 2 mostly spamming the Sploosh-o-matic ever since it got added to the game. Swim in with those curling bombs, running around in their backline. Now in Splatoon 3 I finally feel like experimenting a lot more. Fell in love with the bows even tho I thought I would be bad at them
this video has made me remember how much I love being a flex player. it's so fun!!!! if anyone reading this is stuck into a certain weapon or playstyle, try using the total opposite weapon to that. trust me, it's worth it
ive been switching between classes like crazy, even though im an average player with all of them but its been a ton of fun !! it helps that these maps are an eliters playground, it made picking it up for the first time way easier 💀
@@_ghostfly yes!! I haven't been able to play as much lately but I'm itching for some charger action rn. plus, a while ago, someone challenged me to a duel so that they could high five me (idk), not knowing I had over a thousand hours combined lol. apparently they're really good at snipers, but they need a mid fire rate. sad to say that might not be possible. anyways just excited to crush them 🥰😍😘
I’ve had a lot of fun with reef lux and I wanna branch out to things like E-liter, tri stringer and even maybe dualies. This guide is pretty helpful in helping me test the roles of those weapons
Took me a while to find something but I settled on glooga dualies despite not being super in love with how most dualies play. Gloogas really stuck out to me though with how slow, powerful, and potentially tanky it is with that wall and booyah
So from what I’m understanding of the roles when dumbed down to their core fundamentals: Skirmishers- Cause chaos in any way you can, open up opportunities for others to splat or do so yourself if necessary (ex. Inkbrush running into enemy base and forcing them to either fight it and potentially die or let it ink up their entire base and toss bombs at them while they respawn) Slayers- Get as many kills as possible, either to allow for a push or to stop an enemy advance, but don’t be afraid to sit back and toss bombs when advantageous (ex. S-BLAST 91 going for kill streaks with Booyah and Burst, and being relatively fine with trades compared to other weapons) Backline- Stay out of danger, pick off careless foes, supply passive map control by anchoring down and discouraging foes from entering that area from a certain point (ex. Z&F Splat Charger using Inkstrike and snipes to lock off mid or objective while using vantage points and wall to survive) Support- Paint everything, enable your teammates as much as possible, only aim for kills if that just so happens to be the best way to support your team (ex. Dynamo Roller creating paint with Sprinkler and supplying team with Tacticooler, and bonking foes when it must or they don’t respect its space) Midline- Support your team by suppressing foes rather than enabling allies, usually through blocking off routes, shielding allies and objective, or using effects such as location and acceptable ability to splat (ex. Tenta Sorella Brella locking off places with Ink Mine, threatening with Inkzooka or a close-up OHKO, and using its shield to prevent enemy shots from landing, protecting an ally push or suppressing something like an enemy’s Ink Vac shot) Hybrid- Two or more of the above roles (ex. Splatana Stamper being great and skirmishing with Zipcaster and stray Bursts, slaying with charge slashes and multiple combos, and occasionally supporting with good paint and very good combo damage with ally weapons)
this is a really great guide! ive dipped my feet a lot in the different weapons in s2, but never really found my footing. now im enjoying the anchors in this game!!!! i absolutely adore the eliter and explosher :))
Thank you for this video! In Splatoon 3 I ended up playing Bloblobber the most because I always need money and want to get a lot of turf war points from a safe distance. Now I'm trying to play according to my role, make decisions thaw will help the team the most, and the game is even more fun!
I'm a ballpoint splatling main, but I've been playing a lot of splash-o-matic recently, and it surprisingly makes me a better ballpoint player. It's helpful both to know the positions that backlines can't hit me at, and makes me better at the Ballpoint's short range mode.
I have a lot of diversity, giving E-Liter, splatanas, blasters, pretty much everything. I now mostly play Inkbrush, Reef-Lux, and Sloshing Machine because I like going in for kills while still giving an opening for my teammates.
I absolutely love the undercover brella variants in Splatoon 2 and it helped me dominate those many years ago but can’t seem to win many matches in Splatoon 3, especially if they get high ground more often. Then I came across the bloblobber which i immediatlely fell in love with. Long range bubbles?? Everything is water theme with the weapon. You get the sprinkler and rain, if you like heavy hitters, this can be good if you can land all 4 bubbles
I played splat roller for the longest time because I loved being a slayer weapon, but I’ve been itching to try midline and support but still keep my mobility and I surprisingly got into the mini splatling! Its surprisingly long range, fast charge time, and four shot kill makes it a great painter, displacer, and versatile weapon. Just use LOTS of run speed buffs
I started a challenge for myself to get every weapon sticker and it's helped me discover how much I love playing support of all things. it's just satisfying helping my teammates even if I'm not that good at getting kills
In the first 2 games I focused on having 1 or 2 weapons per mode: Slosher for Zones/Tower, Splatlings for Rainmaker, and either Brellas or Sloshers for clams. But in 3 I decided to get every weapon released so far to at least 1 star of freshness so I would have every weapon license possible at my level. In the process there were several weapons I didn't like too much when I tried them before but really grew on me like Explosher and Tri Stringer, and some weapons that I never gave a chance before became some of my favorites, most notably the Dualie Squelchers. There were also weapons I assumed I would be really bad at but then saw what made them tick: Hydra and Squiffer and the latter I would probably add to my pool if it gets a better kit. Another thing that I realized during this is that most of the weapons I liked are good in multiple modes and that my approach of limiting my weapons to specific modes wasn't really a good idea. The main weapon of Ballpoint works well in nearly every situation but has a kit focused on rainmaker. I assumed Bow would only be functional on tower control but it actually works quite well on all modes except maybe Zones. My current weapon pool right now is: Slosher, Ballpoint, Tri Stringer, Explosher, Sloshing Machine, Dualie Squelchers, Splatana Stamper, Aerospray!1, Bloblobber!1, Tri Slosher!1, Heavy Splatling!1, Reef Lux!2 !1: if it gets a better kit !2: in theory but I haven't practiced it too much and might drop it for Sqiffer in the future. Certainly a drastic change from Aerospray, Slosher, and Heavy in Splatoon 1, and Aerospray, Slosher, Ballpoint, and Kunder in S2. I have also discovered that I prefer Anchors but also work well with slayers/Skirmishers.
I tried picking up charger in 2 because I wanted to do cool trick shots, I ended up not liking it, and dropped it in favor of dapples. One day, I decide to play a game with the squiffer and then absolutely fell in love with it, and I already was decent at it due to the practice I got from the normal charger.
I generally trust your opinion more on this, being more experienced than most, but in my experience most people treat the tri-stringer as more of a support than a backline, as its main ability is denying area with explosive shots and dealing chip damage to help in fights (since one-shots are super precise to perform and the lasting explosions are good to pressure distant opponents barring that, great video, comprehensively explained in a way that I now feel I have a good understanding of it all
I'm mostly a tri-stinger main, sometimes a squiffer, It's awesome when you can do zone control especially in splat zones when you can displace with your arrows. Also, its really fun when I get a splat using a one-shot or tap-shots.
I love the part where you said to try all the weapon classes to see what you like because that's how I found that I love the Inkbrush. I accidentally went into a match with it and realised I love it after thinking I would hate it before playing the game for the first time.
I tried the Dualie Squlechers on a whim and started popping off and having a lot of fun, plus the splat bombs and the wave breaker vibe with my playstyle.
I tried to play as charger because I had a dream where I was really good at it...Give up on your dreams.
That last sentence tho
Or, let reality set in
play eliter
I went into one match with a charger and didn’t land a single shot
Bruh i turned my sensitivity up to 5 and started hitting every single shot
It only happened for a day 😢
I've found that playing Salmon Run is the best way to get acquainted with other weapons. Other game modes can feel scary considering most players use weapons they know they're good at so playing with people who most likely aren't using their mains either makes it way more fun
And the there's the single-player mode, which is the second best option, right? It teaches you how weapons work in strange new places.
@@StoryTeller796 yup, that definitely helped me get the hang of certain weapons as well
As someone who's probably sunk at least 100 hours into Salmon Run in Splatoon 2 and 3 combined, I really do feel like I know how to use any weapon (besides chargers) at least decently well.
So very true I would never be a squiffer main without it
Funny thing is I am semi-decent with chargers in Salmon Run, hitting a lot of bosses and making trickshots
I always overshoot or undershoot someone with multiplayer, and always end the game with 2-4 splats
I'm an inkbrush main, just because the combination of splat bombs and killer whail 5.1 creates a really agressive kit that can work in a bit larger range than the inkbrush is capable of. And the satisfaction from splatting your opponent up close is something no other class can give me.
both the brush kits are so great and aggressive and i love it (as an octobrush main)
Based Inkbrush main
I can't play inkbrush due to how fast you have to click the button, and octobrush is already tiring enough
And u can even use the killer wail as a tool to assist in kills or a supportive tool to close of a piece of the map for just a tiny bit
I can't MASH
I picked up chargers in this game and I'm genuinely surprised of how well they fit my play style. Definitely glad to have given them a try since my variety opened greatly with them.
Fancy seeing you here, Philly. :D
Chargers seem to be easier to hit shots with in Splatoon 3. I'm not complaining but just something I felt like pointing out
@@TGCPhilip It helps that there's no Sting Ray or Ink Armor to screw things up.
That is true, though for me I've always been scared to use them since I didn't experiment back in 2 as much. With this, along finally using motion controls after finding the right settings, I started picking them up in this game and it feels great to use.
@@NicoTheCinderace Hello fren.
All the roles in a couple of words.
Skrimishers - take fights, don’t lose them.
Slayers - go in and try to get as many kills as possible, but try to keep yourself alive in certain situations (like if you don’t have Quick respawn.)
Backline - Apply pressure to the enemy team. Don’t try to get a lot of kills, that’s the slayers job.
Support - Supply aid to your teammates by taking space or painting the map and giving them a supportive special.
Hope this helped!
thanks bud
Not really helpful. This does not show the weapons for every role
Forgot the guy who just inks and never fights
I wanted to be a roller main because I loved the idea of rolling everyone on my path. Now as an actual roller main I know that rolling is actually the least you're gonna do with a roller, it's still incredibly fun tho.
honestly though. One of my first few runs i had a blast just rolling over people and 😭😭
Maybe next Christmas in turf wars?
hey here's pro tip b + zr = focused attack that can one shot all opponents if they're close to you
@@dudufartta heyy! i hope this doesnt come out as rude but many people know that when using roller.. hope this wasnt rude tho! :)
I like playing Agressive backlines like Heavy and Dynamo but also dapple a bit in Splattershot. It’s pretty fun to mix up my style
Hehe dapple
Try playing blob aggressive then. It's fun.
Hey, if can't beat em', join em'
I play goo tuber way too aggressively and I can either get 15 kills or 15 deaths, no inbetween. It's really fun tho
I'm really happy that you and others like ThatSrb2DUDE and HDHaZmY make these kind of videos. It makes great material to show/link to friends and coworkers that are getting into Splatoon 3. Specially cause all of you cover such a range of various topics and tips and game modes.

Squid school is great, also!!

@@DaDoc540 oops lol i think i play it overly safe
Well, not really cannon fodder if you're not getting hit, but you get the picture
I don't really use the special from a distance that much. I tend to use it at a close range and chase after the person, or one of the people, it locks onto.
Hello fellow inkbrushers
We all agree about what a rapid blaster does but we have like 5 different labels we use to describe it lol
Glad you made the video, it's great to see a different perspective on the same subject, and it's all great advice, especially urging people to play all the weapons and pick the ones they enjoy first and foremost.
OMG SQUID SCHOOL!!
really awesome and helpful guide! i realized throughout watching that i already have a really subconscious support playstyle, even though i used to always play frontline. great start to learn about what makes you an important part of the team!
That's my role."
So I started looking up support weapons, and the Custom Jet Squelcher also really clicked with me.
Thanks :)
EDIT: Oooohhhhhhhh my god nevermind it's the Hydra Splatling this shit is amazing
I love the playstyle of the reeflux and bamboozler, they feel similar as in they are mid/long range supportive skirmishers
This doesn’t matter but that sync at 5:47 is so satisfying
8:14 the music and these lines feel very encouraging for some reason
YOOO I am in the video, I died at 0:02 LOOOOL
Yooo
dude
As someone who played Splatoon 1 from release until servers started dying, and after years I finally jumped straight into Splatoon 3 and felt extremely rusty, getting to know all the new weapons, subs, specials, and different playstyles and strategies has been a bit of a challenge, but this vid helps understand things a bit easier, so thank you
Welp, I main the sloshing mashine because it's a very good kit but I also like it's role on the field, by always trying to pick safe fights from a distance. But maybe I got it wrong according to Chara :D
Edit: What I got, is that I should try more weapons to see if they fit me even more
I kind of classify myself as a "Frontline Map Controller" with a Bloblobber.
I used to play duelies and Splattershot A LOT, now I gave ink brush a try and BOY I was surprised at how much I loved it.
You're super knowledgeable about this game, and I think it'd be really interesting for you to make whole videos delving into individual weapons! Especially the Dynamo Roller; it seems like such a cool weapon, but I just have no clue what to do with it, even after this video.
we have plans to do content like that in the future

Could you give a list of what you currently consider for each role? Maybe a 'tier' list? I'm curious what people are finding effective so far in the higher rankings. Is the best comp typically one of each type or does it change by mode?
As a Flingza Roller main, I love being a skirmisher who invades the enemy base whilst keeping them at bay while my team closes on the center. I feel like rollers are more usually support, but it's just so much fun to play aggressively.
yes! aggressive flingza is so fun to play
I’m a splash o magic main, it’s a good aggressive weapon and has a balanced kit of bursts and crab tank!
It's harder to land the one-shot KOs than with a charger, but it does much better at chipping and laying down ink all over the place, and it can hit people behind walls like an Explosher.
tri-stringer does not ink well unless ur team is doing great...u might as well just get a charger for better impact and paint
I really appreciate this video! I used to play Hero Shot exclusively because I thought I liked it, but I found myself getting worse at the game until I picked up Bloblobber and ended up doing much better. You should always try out different weapons even if you _think_ you’ve found the right one.
can confirm, i used to only play tri-slosher and splattershot jr until i picked up heavy splatling and found out that was a lot more fun for me :)
Bloblobber works perfectly for me. It's so versatile I can play any position.
@@PrincessNicEssus yes!! i fuckin LOVE the bloblobber man i played it heavily in 2 and even more so now
@@baz00kaboy The latest patch fixed the ink output.
I'm a dullies main who switches to charger when needed and to have fun. These two weapons definately have something in common definately.
Feels like the times when splatlings were introduced...
Having long range without a laser is incredibly valuable in this game
@@lunarkomet oh yeah definitely, and the way the falloff shots don't lose dmg is so good, hitting directs over walls is incredibly fun
I personally like all weapon types and play them all so this doesn't effect me to much but it gave me a new understanding of weapon roles and uses, so thank you for this well made video.
I'm the kamikaze slayer who dies valiantly and takes the enemy down with me
Or that's what I want to be, I'm still working on the taking down the enemy part.
I feel kinda like I do best when fighting but also covering ground.
i've gone from backline/anchor in splat 2 to a support and I love playing jr :)
This was a very helpful video. I never understood what the difference between a skirmisher and a slayer was until now.
glad you enjoyed it
Im either
A: A luna main - About 13 (Splatoon 3)
Or B: a Sploosh o matic one - The most I’ve gotten so far (SPLATOON 3) about 15
There’s also C that was actually way better in Splatoon 2 to the point I got the ghost inkilubg stamp next to my weapon
Splattershot, scored about 28 kills in a round
I like dualie squelchers because of long range, good mobility, and useful for tracking opponent locations
Great video, Pro Chara!
the music selection is "perfection" in this video, big props to whoever edited this :)
Awesome vid even though I’ve been on a break from Splatoon I always watch your uploads because they’re so entertaining keep up the great work
As a splash-o-matic user, I work in the mid to front lines to push back the enemy team and create openings for my team, I use burst bombs as chip damage and to annoy the enemies so they focus on me while my team paints the ground and I use the crab tank to create openings and distract the enemy team
It’s fun to expand and try out all new stuff.
ive picked up a lot of weapons since I started about 2-3 weeks ago, brushes and sloshers are some of my top weapons but brellas will always be my no.1 💖
For some odd reason, the two weapons I main are tri-slosher and hydra, which have two play styles that are vastly different from each other.
Same here, I main Heavy, Octobrush and Range Blaster
@@ouh.my_ same i main those exact weapons (and tri stringer)
haha, that was me in splatoon 2. i mained dualie squelchers and hydra. now im mostly just a hydra main
I main tasabi, zekkofin charger, tri slosher noveau, sloshing machine, and foil squeezer
i cant settle on one if my life depended on it.
My favourite weapons are probably the bloblobber (due to its unpredictability) and the dualie squelchers (due to their dodge roll and range)
I play Undercover Brella as support/midline and it’s super awesome.
You know, I had an amazing dream where I was a top-tier Aerospray. Just let reality set in, dreams don’t come true.
weapon preferences can change drastically.
I haven't been able to play as much lately but I'm itching for some charger action rn. plus, a while ago, someone challenged me to a duel so that they could high five me (idk), not knowing I had over a thousand hours combined lol. apparently they're really good at snipers, but they need a mid fire rate. sad to say that might not be possible. anyways just excited to crush them 🥰😍😘
@@aauz LMAO good luck tho u probably dont need it 😭 charger mains can be scary fr
So from what I’m understanding of the roles when dumbed down to their core fundamentals:
Skirmishers- Cause chaos in any way you can, open up opportunities for others to splat or do so yourself if necessary (ex. Inkbrush running into enemy base and forcing them to either fight it and potentially die or let it ink up their entire base and toss bombs at them while they respawn)
Slayers- Get as many kills as possible, either to allow for a push or to stop an enemy advance, but don’t be afraid to sit back and toss bombs when advantageous (ex. S-BLAST 91 going for kill streaks with Booyah and Burst, and being relatively fine with trades compared to other weapons)
Backline- Stay out of danger, pick off careless foes, supply passive map control by anchoring down and discouraging foes from entering that area from a certain point (ex. Z&F Splat Charger using Inkstrike and snipes to lock off mid or objective while using vantage points and wall to survive)
Support- Paint everything, enable your teammates as much as possible, only aim for kills if that just so happens to be the best way to support your team (ex. Dynamo Roller creating paint with Sprinkler and supplying team with Tacticooler, and bonking foes when it must or they don’t respect its space)
Midline- Support your team by suppressing foes rather than enabling allies, usually through blocking off routes, shielding allies and objective, or using effects such as location and acceptable ability to splat (ex. Tenta Sorella Brella locking off places with Ink Mine, threatening with Inkzooka or a close-up OHKO, and using its shield to prevent enemy shots from landing, protecting an ally push or suppressing something like an enemy’s Ink Vac shot)
Hybrid- Two or more of the above roles (ex.
That was extremely helpful! Thanks for adding that. I've been trying different weapons and have been surprised, and disappointed. Much appreciated!
Yes, trying new weapons breathes a whole new life into the game, havent touched dynamo since S1 but Im having a blast with it now in S3
My current weapon pool right now is: Slosher, Ballpoint, Tri Stringer, Explosher, Sloshing Machine, Dualie Squelchers, Splatana Stamper, Aerospray!1, Bloblobber!1, Tri Slosher!1, Heavy Splatling!1, Reef Lux!2
!1: if it gets a better kit
!2: in theory but I haven't practiced it too much and might drop it for Sqiffer in the future.
Certainly a drastic change from Aerospray, Slosher, and Heavy in Splatoon 1, and Aerospray, Slosher, Ballpoint, and Kunder in S2. I have also discovered that I prefer Anchors but also work well with slayers/Skirmishers.
A good rewarding way to play every weapon I found is trying to collect all the stickers for your locker
been trying to get stickers from weapons, but the problem is I touch grass so I only have 7 weapon stickers
I tried picking up charger in 2 because I wanted to do cool trick shots, I ended up not liking it, and dropped it in favor of dapples. One day, I decide to play a game with the squiffer and then absolutely fell in love with it, and I already was decent at it due to the practice I got from the normal charger.
I generally trust your opinion more on this, being more experienced than most, but in my experience most people treat the tri-stringer as more of a support than a backline, as its main ability is denying area with explosive shots and dealing chip damage to help in fights (since one-shots are super precise to perform and the lasting explosions are good to pressure distant opponents
barring that, great video, comprehensively explained in a way that I now feel I have a good understanding of it all
I'm mostly a tri-stinger main, sometimes a squiffer, It's awesome when you can do zone control especially in splat zones when you can displace with your arrows. Also, its really fun when I get a splat using a one-shot or tap-shots.
Bloblobber my beloved (shut up it's not because I can't aim it's because hearing the 4 tics in a row is so satisfying)
Thanks, I have played the game for a bit, but could never decide how exactly I wanted to play, now, I think I’ve got it figured out
