      I think yes it does but it's not a weapon i would want to rely on staying alive and it can't help weapons that don't paint at all, where as a weapon i would want as a support would make up for other weapons weaknesses. Tbh tho yeah sharking in a corner could be seen as a form of anchoring.

      @@Timbit901as a day one roller main you are correct it does struggle staying alive, however when away from opponents it can work as a good jump spot and can be a quick reliable anchor depending on the situation. And actually pretty good at being utility in certain situations with bubble. Bubble allows for quick lead and checkpoint takes and it really helps getting your team in when not used selfishly plus not to mention roller is usually the weapon to confirm kills in fights or do damage for a teammate to confirm the kill it can be very good at supporting the team in numerous ways.

    Hydra main here! I agree that the hardest part of the anchor playstyle is juggling safety vs attacking the enemy. If I position myself more aggressively, we'd be better able to beat back the enemy, but if things go wrong, we might wipe...

    This video rocks! PKFuzzy said a lot about being fluid with roles in his interview with Chara and its great to hear other players/coaches sharing similar views. Its important to not hamstring yourself to a certain playstyle within a match or with your choice of weapon pool, especially within a team setting. The game state is always fluid and your role within each game will be as well.

      Id like to add that meta heavily favors certain roles over others too, like with Eliter on Mahi Mahi Tower lol, Anchoring becomes so strong, that it pretty much invalidates every other Skirmisher or Slayer and at that point you have to rely on Utilities (like Rocket Spams) to get through by brute-forcing your way in, also in a fluid game like this, weapons that can reliably do well a number of different roles rather than very well just 1 specific role will get to shine even more, look at vRoller for example, kinda average slayer but terrible at everything else. 💀

  • @ScandinavianHail

    The clip at 9:41 is such a great example of how to both skirmish and slay and a good demonstration of how fluid these roles are. It starts with the dualie squelchers distracting the enemy N-Zap, using their range and dodging for long enough to let the Vdualies roll in and finish them off. Then they switch rolls as they move on to their next target, the splattershot. Now the Vdualies is the one drawing fire to let the squelchers safely eliminate the enemy. The Vdualies died, but because they got two kills together it was still worth it.
    What the team needs of you can change in the blink of an eye. Even if you're a dualie squelchers who prefers to skrimish, you'll sometimes have to slay simply because the enemy started shooting at your teammate first instead of you. Great video, Cookie!

    Went from being a 5star inkbrush main to 5star heavy splatling main. I’ve got 4 stars in several other weapons, but nothing even remotely compares to playing heavy splatling. I only ever solo queue (does playing with my bf every now and then even count as a group?) and it can be pretty difficult sometimes. I’ve learned to play pretty aggressive as one too, but being the last line of defense for my team is pretty great.
    With that being said, not having a backliner makes such a huge impact. It’s an honor to be the anchor of my teams 🫡

    I always retreat if the team isn’t all together or dead. I do keep sniping though and I usually get super jump spot medal / badge for the round. I have a few multiplayer rounds where people always super jump to me. I usually run to a nearby team mate if I’m in trouble since they can usually take care of the guy on me. I'm a tri-stringer main and trying to be an anchor with that weapon is hard, but not impossible. Out of all the other charger-like weapons it's better at covering ink, but it's range is shorter then a charger, so you'll usually be forced into closer fight. Because of this I usually play more like a utility player, mostly inking, throwing toxic mists etc. Obviously like you said you often need to change play styles with utility, which you're usually forced into due to the closer range fights.

    There's something I've been thinking about with this system, Roles are suppose to be fluid but since Anchor is the most important position what can they switch into?
    Sure you can position more aggressivly after a successful fight but you'd still remain the Anchor.

    • @coachcookie_
      @coachcookie_  7 месяцев назад +4

      This is a really great question! The answer is that weapons that specialise in anchoring (chargers, splatlings, etc) are way less likely to shift *out* of the playstyle than other weapons are to shift *into* it. This doesn't make the Anchor playstyle any less fluid -- someone should be anchoring at all times, so teammates will shift into it when necessary -- but "anchor weapons" are called that for a reason. They're super insanely good at anchoring, but to a fault... they have trouble doing anything else.
      Some weapons like Ballpoint Splatling can actually skirmish and slay pretty well, which is one reason why it's very good competitively. But of course, no E-Liter is gonna push up and fish for fights. They'll anchor, and if they go down (which they should try not to), their teammates will cover them. Fluidity!
      (Ironically, this makes chargers some of the only weapons you *could* fit into a neat little box. But of course, everything's still situational. Sometimes you gotta help in a pivotal fight, or kill the Rainmaker before they get the lead in Overtime. You mostly play patient, but sometimes you gotta get desperate. Up to you to make that decision.)
      Thank you very much for your question!

    • @kylebayliff9360
      @kylebayliff9360 23 дня назад

      Chargers are designed to be anchor weapons at their core, but some of them are ideal for hybrid roles. You won't find an E-liter pushing forward, but a squiffer has quick enough charge time that it can push (it also has to play forward more because it's shorter range). Goo tuber is actually a great weapon for painting with the tap shots, so it does support well. And bamboozlers... are great at... bamboozling? (I don't know what bamboozlers are good for...)

    • @voguefurret
      @voguefurret 23 дня назад

      @@kylebayliff9360 I wouldn't call Squiffer and Goo Tuber Anchors but Bamboozler plays at medium to long ranges.
      It's a similar playstyle to Rapid Blaster and Stringer where you're playing midline rather than backline to hit a specific range, They lack reliable damage so need teamates to protect and combo with them but their positon allows control of any fight.
      They aren't able to defend on their own like a true Anchor, Stringer is able to stall for a while through explosions but otherwise isn't consistent at longer range.

    im trying to become better at the tri-stringer currently and its going well I'd say with being an anchor, only issue is im losing the slayer playstyle i had with my carbon, splattershot and tri-slosher rapidly 😭

    I'm definitely a Skirmisher. I run in on the Front lines to keep the opponent back while still worrying about my own life.

    Can you apply utility to the splattershot nova? I have noticed how easy it is give your team free kills by using point sensor and killer wail so can you count it?

    I feel like Tenta brella is a safe like... Utility Skirmisher*.
    Corrected. I suppose yeah, I'm working alongside my team on objv and I'm not thriving on the super backline, with the midrange brella I use.

    As a Brush Main, I didn’t really see any Brushes on the list (At least I don’t think, might have skipped over it)
    For me, Brushes are a Skirmisher / Slayer Hybrid. Brushes are Fast, Fast Hitting, and Have Very Strong Killpower, with a drawback of Poor Range and So-So painting.
    I’ll be using Octobrush as an example here, since it’s what I play the most. Octobrushes have a good amount of Range, while not having a slow startup like Painbrush does. They can easily run in and get kills, and Brushes EXCEL at Sharking, as once your in a Brushes range, your basically already dead (Unless your a Roller)
    The problem with Brushes is that they aren’t good at surviving and keeping themselves safe. Brushes are offensive weapons, and their poor painting power makes it hard to make a getaway.
    Overall, if your a brush Player, PLAY AGGRO, but also GET AWAY when you can. You want to conserve your special and life as much as possible so you can get kills to help your team.
