    i'd suggest playing salmon run, too. it has made me insanely aware of my health at all times, i've gotten REALLY good at throwing bombs, and you're forced to learn every weapon in the game which helps you fight them later. Plus, you earn lots of cash and ability chunks!

      So much this! +1 for bomb throwing practice. The first time I nailed a bomb into the mouth of a Maws attacking a teammate halfway across the map, I knew I finally arrived. I cannot stress trying out all the weapons enough. I’ve recently made it my goal to get one star for every weapon in the game. Though it’s slow going it has helped me improve A LOT and I’ve gotten really good at weapons I originally never wanted to play

    • @melimsah
      @melimsah Год назад +26

      I second this! Even if you HATE the weapon, it can really teach you great ways to counter weapons that you may never have known before. I used to get super overwhelmed whenever I was up against splatlings, until I started regularly play one and saw how people countered me.

    • @unl3ash3d95

      my goal eventually when all the weapons are added is to get a 20 bomb with each and every one of them. I did this in 2 except made it ten since I was doing it in turf war but now that theres a casual ranked mode and its 5 mins instead of 3 I think I can do it

    • @emrekogabasoglu7227
      @emrekogabasoglu7227 Год назад +5

      I agree with this, trying out weapons is good for learning how to counter others, BUT it is important to eventually narrow your weapon pool to a couple weapons in order to improve faster and understand more nuances of the weapon.

      X rank is very different in difficulties compared to other mode. If you are not a front liner or you are not used to carry your team. Then surely your team will mostly defeated. S+0 can access X battle is just a big joke. It hurts a lot for old X ranked players from splatoon 2.

    • @copyrightstrike6949

    Something not mentioned about the HUD: it shows you which players have a special charged. Being able to see when your opponents and teammates have specials ready can make a huge difference. The amount of specials at the players’ disposal can make or break a push on the objective, and this can even help in solo queue to help know when your team is ready for a push.
    Something else I don’t see many people mentioning is audio cues. Many special weapons play unique sounds upon activation, which can let you know to take cover, even if the user is out of sight. There cues can also save you from some sub weapons. You’d be surprised at the number of times you could be splatted to a Suction Bomb you couldn’t see, whether it’s behind you or under a ledge. Keeping an ear out for certain sounds and learning what they mean can make a huge difference.

      To be fair with you, forget the whole ''ranked'' mentality. I remember from my days on League of Legends where I'd be afraid to play ranked and always got super stressed when I did get into ranked matchmaking. Until at one point I saw a video about a guy mentioning what Im about to tell you too: ONLY PLAY RANKED! Seriously, forget about normal matches and only play ranked and treat them like your normal matches. Everyone's going to try harder in ranked matches so you'll have to be more aware of your surroundings and try harder, when you only play ranked and treat them like your only game mode you'll naturally become better at the game. Forget all about going down in rank because you will get better at some point, much more compared to playing normals.

    Lowkey wish there was a guide or tips/advice for stick users. I physically can’t do motion controls due to bad wrists. I know I’ll always be playing at a disadvantage, and motion will always be superior. But there’s gotta be something to help stick players like me, even if it’s just a little.

    • @Taxafolia

      One main disadvantage is that you will struggle to jump and aim at the same time, since people usually use the right thumb for the jump button and the right stick. Try remapping the jump button to something like L1, though it might be really uncomfortable and weird for a long while. Might help.
      Some weapons are pretty good with sticks only: brushes, rollers, buckets, explosher, blasters, brellas.
      They may not be ideal for many map/mode combos, but you can reach low X with just rollers and brushes using sticks only.

    I always say, “Check your sides, back, and head.” It takes longer for me to turn and shoot when I’m already getting jumped and they’re pretty much blind spots. Some player may try to get you as they fall next or on top of you, or just shoot from their higher ground.
    One of the things I tend to do that I don’t entirely recommend is jumping forward as your shooting. It’s kind of a vulnerable move, but it does give that extra shove forward, but it can leave you exposed in the air.
    Salmon run is a brilliant way to get to know the weapon without having to own it in your inventory, especially weapons you aren’t familiar with or usually refuse to use in other modes. I have a soft spot for Nozzlenose in Salmon run

    Big tip for using Splattaling: charge behind walls and objects. You might think this is cheap, but it is the best way for you to use this weapon class to get enough splats in the game, because charging out in the open leaves you vulnerable since each splattaling has different charge speeds. Even with ones with fast charging, you should still hide behind stuff to charge and shoot unsuspecting players.
    One suggestion for gear, is to use at least one with Main saver, that will help you reduce ink consumption for charging, and paired with ink recovery up will help with that as well.

  • @Roze_aye

    A potential video series suggestion.
    -Go around to each map.
    -Cover 1 map per video.
    -Discuss really good locations to place/use each specials in each map.
    Of course, I know that its situational, and some weapons dont entirely matter where you use them at, and not every map is the same in each mode.
    but it could still be really helpful on a general basis.
    for instance you could point out key spots to place wave breaker on hagglefish to get more use out of it without enemies destroying it immediately.
    or spots around museum that offer better vantage points, or are harder to hit when using crab.
    or when would be a better time to use bubbler on undertow tc

    Climbed from A- to S just today playing Hydra; I've pretty much been ignoring ranked in favor of salmon run for the past few months, but finally made the effort. The most important thing that I kept repeating in my head was to watch my flanks--and I think that's number 1 for any backline. Simply being aware of where people will try to flank from (and noting in the beginning which types of weapons are most likely to try) made all the difference in my survivability, and after a while it becomes extremely predictable!

Wether its aim, watching the top menu, or matchups, i always try and find something to improve. One major tip i have is if you can, record and watch your gameplay. Also, watching high level gameplay can give you great tips or examples to improve. Finally, try and beware of what your enemy likes to do. Wether they like to hide around one spot, chuck bombs in neutral instead of trying to earn advantage, and beware of weapon/gear playstyles. One example is ninjasquid, or becoming aware of how certain weapons like to fight, ie e liter and keeping distance, blasters around walls, and roller’s sharking.

    Just hit S+ recently, I started in s2 and only got around B rank. After getting more into the game in s3 i burned through the ranks to about A-, then i had to start grinding.

    All good tips, but the one about always facing toward enemies base I’m not so sure of. Would that be moreso geared toward slower weapons? Sure generally speaking you want to see what’s out in front of you, be not too exposed.. but often times I’ll see many great players turn their backs to go back and make a kill easily exposing themselves, (albeit done very quickly) Kiver for instance will often run along the backside of the tower taking those out, sure sometimes it’s a bit risky.. any thoughts here?

    I think understand how your Main Weapon/Weapons Should play (Strengths and Weaknesses of it) is a thing that you should also know as a starter. So you didn't start to train ineffective ways of play a weapon. To relearn those in the Right way is way harder than learn it right directly.

    I prefer stick controls (even though motion is objectively better) because I have chronic pain and need to change position a lot while playing in handheld mode. It’s really annoying when I can’t move without the camera flying all over the place.
    I’d still use motion for TV mode if I had a proper pro controller, though.

    I cannot stress how many times there are TOO MANY PEOPLE inking home turf while only one teammate pushes forward. It makes me want to SCREAM. :'))) I always recommend everyone push and that you ink home when you're splatted but make it the goal to get back up to your team to help maintain ground and keep pushing.

    I used to us motion in splatoon 1 but I found it easier for stick controls for some reason

    This is so well done! A great introduction to key strategy points. Thank you! I especially appreciated the combination of clear explanations of what the player will actually see and why each particular tip is useful. For a long time I've followed and recommended wadsm's how to get good video, but you introduce several concrete tips here that I wish I had encountered much earlier (and so wouldn't have had to figure out on my own)! It seems like this video should be very accessible to beginners, too. Great work.

    On specific maps i like to Shark with 7 clams. Because as long as you don't have an entire Football, the enemy team won't know your location if you're trying to shark and ink a separate and safer route for your teammates to map jump to youm unfortunately everyone that I've played with in rank DOES NOT use the map... Please do USE THE MAP. 💀 It helps with scoring if we have 2-3 defending, one sharking or 2 defending, one getting footballs and one sharking helps on most maps for Clamblitz or even Rainmaker 😭;;

    I'm currently playing on a Switch Light, so, motion controls are horrible because I move the entire console along with my body. I really freaking need to buy a normal controller.
