Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Great memories.
My Mom and Aunt met Jim Perry on a Canadian gameshow he hosted called Definition. Apparently a real pleasant guy. Congrats Tim, I hope you had an amazing trip in Italy and enjoyed all those lovely gifts. Thanks for giving to charity too, blessings.
@@lancasterII Appreciate it!
Congratulations !
Gotta say Tim, I especially love how you took a moment at 6:32 to shake hands with your opponents, and then donating some of your winnings, very classy of you. 👏
I remember this from when I was a kid. Your buddy looks just like Kevin Nealon! He was a little too handsy with Summer. And Summer tried a couple of times to give you a kiss and you ignored her!!! I bet you had a blast!
'Sale of the Century' is one of, if not my favorite gameshow of all time. It could easily work today too!
Its called Temptation now.
Work their way up to $1million
I'd love to see a new version of this.
6:12 Kevin Nealon goes in for the bear hug of Summer Bartholemew! Tremendous.
I thought that was him!
And also a young Jan Hooks
I saw that, wtf is Kevin Nealon doing there?!
Tim making sure to acknowledge his fellow contestants at 6:28 is my favorite thing about this.
True sportsmanship at that.
Thank you.
Tim is a friend of mine. We met in the 90s when I was a drum major for a drum and bugle corps, and the was the emcee for competitions in CT. One of the nicest people I met in those days.
All rumors!
Jim Perry, the host on Sale of the Century, puts a lot of pressure on the contestant take the prize with a cheaper bargains with $2K money with it, and contestant refuse to cave in. That’s guts.
Comedian Kevin Nealon was one of Tim Holleran's friends that came on stage.
We need a "where are they now" on this
That is correct.
@@joeybaseball7352 I'm fine.
I think Kevin's few seconds on camera congratulating Tim was what got him the SNL gig in 1986.
This episode is listed for Kevin on IMDb under archive footage.
6:26 Kevin Nealon sighting
That's awesome Kevin Nealon was there.
And Jan Hooks!
@@MrWrestlingman85 My friend of many years--a year before he got the call from Lorne.
Technically that's the biggest win in America's _Sale of the Century_ history.
One of my most favorite game shows. I remember Tim's win. The good days.
If we adjusted that for inlation, that would be just over $400k in 2020 dollars.
Taxes take almost half of the winnings
@@NTJedi the taxes would come out of most of the cash part of his winnings.
Love the bangs! 🤩
I used to watch this on my days off at work when I used to work at the lighthouse for the blind. And I'll tell you what it was a very good game show back then and I do believe somewhere over 10 to 15 years ago we had a knockoff that game show called temptation which was really sale of the century in disguise.
Favorite game show of all time.
4:27 Right down the middle for the money cards (2, 5 and 8)!!
My Favorite Episode of SALE OF THE CENTURY, is Where John Goss Plays for All the Prizes, Plus the Cash Jackpot. John Needed $95 and the Win for Everything.
And he got it exactly. And I loved what Jim said; he needed 95 and the win, he got 95 and the win.
6:15 did someone press the buzzer accidentally?
I liked this show.
Tim "Ace" Holleran, is originally from Black Rock, CT. It's near Bridgeport. The station in New Haven that aired Sale...WTNH Channel 8 did a story on him the day he won the lot back in 1985. I think in NYC, Sale was on WABC-TV channel 7 before going to WOR-TV channel 9 or vice versa.
Crazy story...I was applying for a job at WICC Radio in Bridgeport...and there was this guy named Ace who was doing a fill-in for a talk show after a Yankees game. I was in the control room checking out the board and such...NOT KNOWING THAT WAS THE GUY WHO HIT IT BIG ON SALE IN THE TALK STUDIO WHICH LINKED TO THE STUDIO (A few years ago a tornado hit downtown Bridgeport and trashed the equipment at the station's top floor location near downtown. WICC and a few other stations are now clustered in a building in Milford, CT). I was afraid that I might've used my game show knowledge and knowing about him to upstage Ace. Sadly when it came to trying to work at one of CT's legendary radio stations...it was NO SALE for me!
What's he up to now? Did he invest his winnings in Apple and become a billionaire?
@@joeybaseball7352 Settle down, Beavis.
@@joeybaseball7352 I'm retired. Happy, but no millionaire.
@@dadmakesbadmovies Tell the truth Tim.....how close were you to hitting the button when Jim Perry dumped $2000 on your podium?
@@raymondswenson5529 Nope, no way.
$2000 seemed like a typical offer if someone was going for the cash jackpot. One of the faults of the shopping format (and winners board for that matter) in that no one was ever going to go for it.
Even i am shocked big winner
Kevin Nealon keeping his mind on business I see. LOL
I didn't know they were going to invite my gang on the stage. Kevin, two close friends and the late Jan Hooks.
Great episode! But i wonder if you will show the other Sale episode you guys aired on St. Patrick's Day?!
Biggest nighttime winner. Not even close to the overall biggest Sale winner, Mort Kamins, who won nearly $250,000 in 1983.
He won that in two visits to the show though. Still a great champion - many of his episodes are here.
Sale of the century
Tim's cash total was over $92,000.
inflation adjusted he won 417,187 worth the cash and prizes
as I've been telling my friends who I want to get to watch this grand old game show that sale of the century was the who wants to be the millionaire of its day where you had trivia and the potential to win a small fortune
I believe $90,000 is the largest CJ on the syndicated series with $109,000 on the NBC run if I'm not mistaken. Also, I may have asked this on another video, but was Barbara Phillips the only person to win the lot when the CJ was a prize by itself?
Yes, she is.
$166,875! That would be more then $400,000 today!
Going Into This Episode, Tim Had $707 in the Bank. He Needed $43 and the Win, to Win the Cash Jackpot, Plus All of the Prizes.
TIM HOLLERAN RETIRES WITH $166,875 5:52 6:32
TIM HOLLERAN RETIRES WITH $166,875 5:52 6:32
5:47 Clear the board! CLEAR the BOARD!
While Tim *was* the biggest winner of the syndicated run, he is by no means the all-time "Sale" champ as the video title and description suggest: Mort Kamins had won $250,000 on the daytime version in 1983 (uploaded on his channel), and in the 1990s the Australian version saw someone win a Lot that included a $508,000 Cash Jackpot.
TBF the fact Mort got that much by winning the tournament of champions kind of puts him in a different league.
Tim Holleran is the all-time winner on Sale (without the tournaments)
Champion TIM HOLLERAN Has Won Cash and Prizes Totaling... $166,875!

How many equal sides on an isosceles triangle? Six! LOL ! (The actual correct answer is two)
That was one of those moments where you go, "What?! (shake it off) Whatever."
9:11
well Tim was the biggest winner on the night time version but Jim said that Tom O Brien was the biggest winner i guess he forgot about tim;s run and did anyone notice Tim calling him Jimmy?
I guess I did. After 8 shows, I felt a kinship.
Tim's win was in daytime not nighttime
Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman lost the coin toss and remained seated...
Hi summer From JB3
Most beautiful models: Karen & Dara
Dara was beyond beautiful, believe me.
5:53
The clock had the same tune as pyramid's
Chain Reaction on NBC in 1980 used it too.
It was a common sound in the 70s and 80s.
4:35, The Speedround
Vegas!
@5:21 Wait a minute! Six equal sides on an isosceles triangle? There are only three sides on a triangle and two of them are equal on an isosceles one, Lisa! And seriously, Lisa didn't know the Suez Canal, either!
We Want To See The Other Seasons As Well
"We"?
Or is it just you?
Me too! No repeats, Buzzr!
Tim also competed in the "International Invitational Tournament" several years later and unfortunately lost to Cary Young of Australia.
He was a better player than I.
@@dadmakesbadmovies I regret to tell you that Cary Young passed away last night.
Sale of the Century; the original game show to feature male prize models. Suck on that, Price is Right!
RIP Kevin Nealon. Loved him. Lived a good life.
Reports of his death are exaggerated. Mine, too.
He's still alive man!
