Mass reports should be blatantly obvious and shouldn't require much time to review, if over 50 level 1's report a single person in the span of less than 30 seconds, it should be clear what is going on

As someone who played on RP servers consistently for almost 15 years, Blizzard barely did anything to enforce the naming rule. And the only times RPers ever reported names was if they saw a name they recognized as a non-English racial slur. This is 100% because he filled the servers. No doubt.

They have to. Single reports get manually addressed (otherwise the game would explode with half the realms getting banned for fake reports all the time), after a certain amount of reports it bypasses the queue for manual assessment, and goes to an automated system because "If X amount of people are reporting this nonstop, it might be extremely offensive, better safe than sorry." They needed to say that it had not been manually reviewed, that it was an automated ban, so they needed to clarify that it was a mass report
You don’t get banned for mass reports.
You get „banned“ until someone reviews why you were mass reported.
It’s obvious why a system like that exists. In a game that can’t be monitored by real people all the time.

I actually wonder about that. Overwatch already has rules in place that on paper are supposed to prevent fake reporting. I think you can technically get banned for it. Probably doesn't happen though.
It's absurd how Wow reporting system works. As long as enough people report, literally anyone can get banned whether or not rule breaking. Absolutely trash game.
In classic a guild called Grizzly had a lot of players get banned for fake reporting people going for scarab lord during AQ war effort, so there’s potential for repercussion
I honestly think that if someone is mass reported, it's looked into and found out to be false reporting, then EVERY SINGLE PERSON that reported should be punished more harshly than the person that was reported against.
That should be the same in real life too. Here's why I think so......
Back in 2011/2012, I started dating someone, turns out she already had a boyfriend. You can say the blame is on me for continuing with it for so long, but I wasn't the 1 cheating on a person I'd been with for years.
After 9-10 months, she told me that she was in love with me and wanted to leave her man for me.
When I said that I didn't want that and that we should stop doing what we're doing, she went back to her boyfriend and said I raped her.......yes, she thought accusing me of rape was a good punishment for not feeling the same way as she did.
Now the only reason I'm not in prison is that she was stupid. I still had all of the text messages, Skype messages, a couple of people knew about us and we'd even recorded a couple of encounters with my phone.
I could possibly have been in prison for years, not had access to my kids, found it really difficult to get work, would've lost ALL of my friends and on top of being in prison, I would've likely have been abused in there too for that type of crime.
What's her punishment for the false accusation? Oh yeah, absolutely nothing.
My situation may have been on the extreme end of the false accusation scale but it still goes to show that people get away with false claims a lot.

The issue would be the inclusion of mong, which is shorthand for a slur targeting people with down syndrome, it's also an old, very dated and considered offensive term for a racial grouping of indigenous people. I honestly didn't know it was a slur for anything until Asmon pointed it out on stream and I decided to google it.

The first mistake is believing they will accept this corrected information and won't continue making shit up. Many people make up false claims, to justify their hatred because saying "I disagree with one of his views and I'm upset because I worshipped him till that moment" dosn't sound as good as "he supports racism and kills small animals". Yes, that last comment is really shared with the crowd that hates him and is "totally not made up and I'm blocking you for not believing me".

I don't see why you need to suspend an account for a bad name, particularly a first offense. Just don't allow login for that character until the name is change. No need for a suspension unless someone is trying to avoid the rules by repeatedly intentionally picking illegal names.

Friend of mine got his name reported on an RP server... On his toon he'd been playing for 12 years without issue. So he made an alt with the same name instead, so when the person who reported him came to gloat that they could now steal the name, he dared them to try.

I don't know how the systems they have in place work, but wouldn't a name that's been reported and deemed to be offensive/inappropriate be blacklisted on the server it was banned from?
There should be consequences. If the name is legit, those reporting it should eat the punishment they intended to apply on you. Same goes for fake rape accusations. Fake reporters should get jail time.

Blizzard doesn’t really enforce their own rules for RP character naming, unless it breaks ToS. Also, a lot of RPers use different names in-game than what they typed in character creation. There will always be more than one person with the same name, and character creation doesn’t help with that. The rule of only using Medieval or Fantasy names is also very vague. Many modern names have been used since medieval times. Then there is also the issue of names from differing cultures.
I think names that are used in modern day or used to be used or are an amalgamation of different names to make a new name, etc are well within rules. I think what is blatantly against the rules that you can get banned for on RP servers are names like my retail mages name: Noportforyou. It’s basically a sentence, and obviously not derived from any names, and ckearly informing people they ain’t getting portals from me (okay, I actually do give portals, if I actually play her).

@@kazehascoffee Oh, that sucks. I’ve come across a lot of people with names like that… Usually on the RP add-on, they have their real RP name along with their backstory. But, my experience came from retail. So I’m not sure how different it is on classic.

But I guess what I’m trying to say is that, Blizzard makes the RP naming rule vague on purpose. Naming your character is one of the hardest things to do. Especially when someone else had already taken the name you wanted. So, the RP add-on makes up for that with the given name, family name, and nickname options. Whereas, your character creation name doesn’t need to be the same.
oh, I had a whole RP bit about it, it was a play on a boy named sue by johnny cash and my stonemason descendant turned defias father named me Ihavecoffee (not pronounced that way) because I had a birthmark shaped like a coffee cup on my cheek, toon had amnesia, had a whole bit planned out about westfall where I would like learn secrets or some goofy shit and end up with a new name, I was even using totalrp3, I probably got reported for being in Esfands Guild Crusade, because, people think streamers break the game they generate consumers for, I guess.@@ravioliformuoli39
Honestly this is 100% the community and not Asmon. I looked at the forums and this was just a pure witch hunt which effects Asmon since he's a big WoW streamer. Honestly makes me disgusted at the RP community. They are probably gloating over getting him suspended and trying to figure out how to get him perma banned.
A massive influx of players clogging up login queues because of a streamer can be frustrating I guess? I personally like having more players on a server. I have to say though people are delusional if they think they can actually get someone who has a direct line to Blizzard falsely permabanned. Not that I would ever encourage it but at best all they can just cause more disruptions and temporary suspensions.

As someone who has been on RP servers for many years, if the name is against the ToS (which it isn't) you would just be flagged for a name change, never a ban. Tbh I've only ever seen name changes on outright non-RP names like Donaldtrump and Hahayoudead etc.

One time on retail we lost a 3v3 arena because my friends thought it was funny to report my pet's name. Got instantly kicked out of the game after 2 reports.

The Mass Reporters should all get banned for falsely reporting and abusing the system.
Had this happen to me on two different chars, only one of which resulted in a forced name change. Both instances just so happened to coincide with me doing some pvp and actually doing very well. Both characters were multiple expansions old, and their names were never an issue when interacting and raiding with people on my server. If enough people report its an automatic suspension, and they use the time to decide whether or not you broke the rules. If they don't make you change the name there is obviously nothing wrong with it, but for those without content creator connections you still have to ride out the suspension.
Same thing happened to me, some rogue jumped me in wpvp and killed me. I ressed, ate, buffed up, found his dumb ass killing a mob and killed him. Then proceeded to camp his body because he started it. Instead of just logging out for a few minutes until I left, he decided to report my name. Literally the very next day I logged in and my toon was flagged for a rename. My old name had "butt" in it. I of course tried to appeal it but the GM proceeded to tell me "butt" is inappropriate and I was left holding this L and lost one of my favourite names. Whats saddest though is I'm 29... and was being told by some random blizzard employee that "butt" is inappropriate
Getting suspended for a name the "violates tos", keeping you from playing the account, without being refunded for time lost from subscription should be illegal.
They can easily block "bad" names at character creation.

If you report someone and it turns out you obviously were malicious in intent, I think THAT should be against the TOS and should result in THAT person being suspended. There are some people that just report like crazy just because they don't what people say. They abuse the system.
I like how these people villify Asmon as if he's the devil himself but then they behave in this way. They are no better than they believe Asmon to be. Asmon does not FORCE his community/fans to behave badly - bad people are going to be bad people. They should focus their efforts on people actually behaving badly.

Mass reporting just trips an automatic "feature" in the app where your account is suspended without anyone at Blizzard actually doing any work. If after an employee sees that and see it isn't breaking TOS then the suspension is lifted. You didn't break any rules, it's a lazy feature Blizzard uses that the players choose to exploit, if they merely don't like someone. Every big company with an mmorpg does it, just so they don't have to have staff available 24/7.

I named a hardcore characters absolutely outrageous things... Like Trollbussy, Buttplugg and worse. Only once was I forced to change a character's name and it did not come with any sort of temp ban.
False reports should result in a ban.
Say, you report someone 10 times but no action is taken against any of the people you reported - YOU get banned.

What gets me is it's only a three day ban. That doesn't achieve anything. Either force a name change or ban permanently.
I’m not sure how customer support works for WoW as I don’t play it and never investigated but for OW it’s all automated : nobody reviews anything and accounts get permanently banned. Because he’s important, a real person looked into it and fixed it. Good for him. They’re just saving on money by not having to employ as many people in that department, it’s as simple as that.
Only disturbing thing bout this , untill you get a response to your ticket , suspension time will pass. If you dont have direct line to gm's lol. Their mass report - insta suspension system is broken and needs to be removed completely.

Now in EQ when someone makes a name that breaks their rules. They didn't ban player, they just changed their name. Husband had a character name Hyden Seek and yes they had last names in the game. A GM came up and just told him they needed to change his name. Either he could choose the name or they will. But the name was going to be changed. That simple. No ban, no mess. Oh and the reason his name was changed was because it made a phrase . hide and seek, and his character was a rouge. So yes it made a phrase.
As far as I know (at least in my country of Germany) As"MONG"ler is considered to be a mediocre level slur/insult (the mong part, not the entire name)
But still, you wouldn't simply ban that. You'd give out a prompt to change your name with reasoning: "Your name consists of a bad/offensive word or the name has a bad/offensive part in it, please use this namechange to correct it"
Or: When you make a player, simply blacklist the chain of characters in your name that are offensive in the first place. I know games that have this implemented and it works fabulous. Sometimes Mods/Devs change your name (often forcefully) themselves to get you to comply with rules

they shouldnt ban anyone over a name, if they dont want someone using a name they should put some kinda check in the character creation. its on them not the player.
Yeah his ban was unjustified, but the way he handled it was dumb and ridiculous. He has a lot of L takes recently.
One time, when I was a kid, my brother had a physical letter come through his door because of his character name on a RP realm, which wasn't even bad, it just didnt fit the RP-style, lol
HE rly made a 9min explaining why he got banned.... Haters mass reported him and he got banned and unbanned. Saved you 9min. Playing on an RP server is a easy way to get permaban if u dont RP, like asmon does. Matter of time rly
