I've played there for years. BAU Currently on hiatus, as I can't stand Season 9's Game Mode; the lack of Ability Slots you can Card is attrocious, and is the laziest way to balance a game I have ever seen. Hopefully S7 comes back(with Felmode!)
Fuck no, when I used to play you would need to buy the store shit every season. straight throwing money away. Devs also banned people for dumb shit, it was corrupt. I remember a guy making videos on the state of ascencion and the devs banned him cuz they didn't want him speaking up.
I play mostly solo, not a very social player, but I still really enjoy the server. 3-4 years and counting. It's fun but I don't usually do group content outside of dungeons because I don't have a friend group, and I have severe PUG anxiety because people in any version of wow can be toxic over the slightest things.
You got to give credit to the development team from Ascension. Every time I look at the game, it is reworked in a even better way. But, some of the end game gearing process is arcane. If you don't find someone to explain and help, you get very lost in all the enchanting shenanigans that you need/can do. They should streamline that mechanic a LOT to get new players to stay, but the older players that already know the mechanic hate talking about this.
"it is reworked in a even better way" Newness, all the time, gets old really fast. A couple years ago, I worked really hard for months on end to get my build working exactly how I wanted in BGs. Then BAM, they changed the rules on me, breaking everything I had worked for. At one time, I was in RUclips comments, saying Ascension is the best WoW ever. Now I realize that working hard my build is a waste of time, because they'll change the rules again and break all my work.
I played ascension and my biggest gripe is how meta heavy it is when you get to end game. Like i wanted to be a leach magic tank and you can sure build it but if you wanna raid you're either switching to DOTs as a DPS or mitigation and keeping tank. It was amazing leveling and doing dungeons but endgame was a screeching halt that killed it for me.
personally pvp was fun af until I came across a few broken people that just made the matches unfun. I remember facing a boomkin who could 2-3 shot every other player in BGs during leveling. I came across a potion throwing healer that could keep themselves and their entire team alive. I am not familiar with all the ascension specific stuff to know what is broken and how to break it.
yeah only a few builds are viable for each play style (range, melee, tank, healer) out of which should be dozens. none of the classes get the attention they need rather than back door updates 5-10% nerfs/buffs here and there. Prob the best Custom Server out atm, but it still needs some love in regards to balancing. There will always be twinkle in pvp so i’m not too pressed about getting sweaty.
After playing the server since it was vanilla and not even TBC i have to say it has had a huge issue with getting different viable tank builds. There have been plenty of dps and even healer builds available, but they have always struggled with implementing viable tanking alternatives. Sometimes they get a little close and end up with a few great tank builds for heroics and maybe normal raids. But those builds often fall flat when trying ascended dungeons or higher difficulty raids. Huuuuge shame too cause my first build i made was such a fun tanking build for leveling and lower lvl dungeons but couldn't survive the dmg from heroic dungeons 😢
Did these guys actually bring back what wow used to be and what it was always meant to be and stay that way? If so then I say they are doing a good thing and better than blizzards sorry good for nothing tails.
I played years ago when it was still early in development, then played again a few years ago. It was really fun as I loved experiementing with different builds, but of course the meta and best builds crept in and that kinda ruined it for me.
Love it just wish they would add custom races like ogre and all the races from retail. Also would love custom zones. Maybe that’s something for after northrend.
Lived and breathed it for four or so years. It has the largest learning curve of any pvp scene I've played. That being said, the pvp is really really fun.
@@babaganoush6378 theres every quests that you can find up until Burning Crusade in this, theres a ton of content and challenges and at first you can overload informations but its very enjoyable and you should give it a try considering its free and fast to dl
@babaganoush6378 for the most part, yes. You can do the quests, follow storylines, and fight endgame raid bosses. A lot of the leveling is streamlined, but nothing stops you from going zone to zone for story. The leveling zones even scale with you, so if you really like a zone, you can continue to play there even after leveling quickly.
This video is making me give it a try. I had never heard about this and the whole appeal for wow (for me) has always been being creative while constructing my character
Ascension used to be a game where the development team wouldn't fix bugs till others ALSO started abusing them. They want to be ahead of players to be in the top pvp. When people called this out those people just got banned.
Ascension is amazing! I haven't had this much fun with WoW since possibly Vanilla! Dragon flight was fun for a while, then I got bored and stopped for over a year. Some friends were playing hardcore classic recently and wanted me to join them but I really didn't want to resub. I liked the idea of classic SoD but again, didn't think it'd be worth the monthly cost. Then I remembered there were free servers and stumbled upon Project Ascension. It has consumed me! lol The prestige system along with wildcard/free-pick is just genius! I'm currently trying to get my friends to join me but they've never tried a "free server" before. I'll send them this video!
I filled out all my character slots with max lvl geared hero’s I made their builds on my own without bothering to look at build suggestions and I had a lot of fun making playable theme builds in addition to the transmog outfits I have set up for each of them leveling with or without exp bonuses are equally as fun and still rewarding if you like to take things slowly to lvl
I am downloading it now because I am amazed !! Never heard of something like the Ascension project before, and I played wow for a very long time in the past. Grew up with cataclysm and played until dragonflight
Played a good chunk of ascension for the past 2 seasons, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys WoW and always wanted that extra bit of customisability
Commenting to feed the algorithm demon, I played ascension some time ago and had a blast! Having the option to share builds with other players is amazing, even browsing builds is interesting on it's own, but I'm enjoying turtle for now
I really understand the difficulties in joining in on classic era wow if you haven't played it before or if you haven't read/played the lore of wc1-3. For me, I love the race+class requirements. I like when the class and race are lore-accurat and when a class is integral to one aspect of the game. Such as warriors being great DPS and tanks, but lack any solo capabilities or utility and is essentially worthless on their own.. as opposed to a paladin which can tank, heal and even in some dungeons DPS quite well, albeit the paladin isn't the same combat beast, instead they bring tons of utility. When class fantasy and lore gets diluted to fit a newer and perhaps lore-unknowing playerbase, I instantly lose interest in the said game. Hence why I quit wow in wrath because it simply wasn't fair for a paladin to outdps a warrior which could only do that. I'm glad that there are these kind of servers to pool the players that dislike the original way of wow and prefer, to a certain degree, a different game.
@@forwenein2669 Sure it´s bad design but allowing for hybrid classes to outperform non-hybrids in their respective field is even worse class design. I concede that perhaps warriors shouldn´t be so overly OP tanks too. I think it´s fair for each class to excel at 1 role, not dominate on 2 when it comes to PvE. Because warriors are so bad in pvp in any scenario where they haven´t got a pocket healer though, I really don´t mind those poor souls dominating where they can.
It's fun! I think it's going to keep me busy for a few months at least. I know this video was made two months ago, but at least on Area52, the Ascension channel (default /1) is a cesspool that I am forced into every login, and generally find myself typing /leave 1 because of how bad it is. Some pros: Challenge modes like Nightmare (300-500% extra damage taken, die once you lose), Ironman (Never die until max level, can't get any help), Inn-Sane (Ironman but you can only heal hp/mp at an Inn) etcetc. So many. You really can make any character you want. Mystic enchants are a new system that took me some getting used to, but there is a mystic enchant for almost every play style. You can Prestige when you hit max level, which resets you to 1 and lets you do all quests over again while keeping the rest of your progress like crafts, gold, reputations, etc. This really does let you do everything on one character. If you grind hard or purchase from the shop, you can access every profession on one character. Horde and Alliance can play with each other Some cons: Some builds are just significantly better than others. Some builds are not supported very well at all. This is all thanks to the Mystic Enchants completely changing the mechanics or power scaling of abilities. So if you wanna play something quirky, like Rogue / Fire Mage, it's not going to work very well. Rouge with Warlock Nightfall procs every 2-3 seconds (Because Sinister Strike triggers it) and Shadowbolt scaling with Eviscerate, though? Mystic enchants got you covered! And that's really it for cons...!
i always come back to ascension every few seasons and this latest season stuff is pretty neat!. also i got into their custom class COA (work in progress) and i think its cool trying new classes they made up. ive put in hundreds of hours for freee and recently i decided throw them some $$ because i wanted to show support. the fact blizzard effectively semi-ripped off mystic enchants for Season of discovery shows that ascension has a good idea of what players like and what the game could become. ascension i believe is the #1 custom private server thats here to stay for the long run.
@@ExelArts they can just order the server host to shut it down but most private servers have backups so they can just set it up an be online within days. The devs of those private servers are not within the jurisdiction of blizzard a lot of them are from Russia. Blizzard can't win they would even make the problem bigger with promoting these servers with a big lawsuit.
@@Jubafree im surprised they haven't gone to the US gov to stop Internet access to those sites but then that promotes vpns and companies already hate those and don't wont to promote vpns either so it all makes sense I guess
In addition to the legal constraints mentioned, since Ascension doesn't hurt Blizzard in any way is better and easier to let them run and benefit from seeing how players react to Ascension features to later on "steal" ideas, is like free beta test for crazy ideas. xD
Ascension is my go to private server whenever I get that WoW itch. Making your own customized character is great. I remember being very surprised when I could do the Stockades on my own at the appropriate level simply due to the skills available. Very fun stuff. What bothers me a bit, if you are just starting out or you start on one of the seasonal servers, it'll be a while before you get enough bag space and loot especially armor and weapons drops like crazy on Ascension. You constantly have to play inventory manager or go back to a hub and sell your stuff. You can't miss out on the currency you'd lose by trashing things. That stuff gets annoying really fast. It's turned me off from playing on new seasonal servers quite a bit. I also don't understand the draft mode. Seasonal servers are usually locked into it. What it means is that you can't freely pick your skills and talents, you are instead given random ones at set intervals. There are ways to reroll those and a function to limit as to which ones show up but only at the start? And you need these cards equipped you get from the Darkmoon Faire or something of which there are regular and gold versions you acquire through booster packs. It's just so convoluted and to me defeats the entire point of what Ascension is about. Say you play a melee character and you could've gotten something useful like Charge yet since it's random you end up with Auto-Shot. Sure makes me wanna continue playing.
Great video! I've been playing this server since season 3. One of the best parts is that cash shop items can be bought for gold on the AH, even the COA server access pass and exp boosts. This can save 50 bucks.
COA server? Where's that? I'm Australian and I can't find a private server where I'm not MASSIVELY debuffed, if there was a "curse of latency" spell that gave you Australian connection, it'd be the most OP spell to ever exist, we might as well play with res sickness (at least in PvP, if you're melee you can barely land a single hit, screen shows you right on top of them but they're always out of range...)
I was playing on and off on Ascension and got back in Season 9 Chapter 3 and I must say this is one of the best made MMORPGs and its a strong concurent to established titles like Retail WoW, Guild Wars 2 , FF14. They are doing something which many of these MMOs are forgetting and that is providing better and better new player experience with each chapter plus their videos really hype up the game they have really solid marketing unlike GW2. Balance is sometimes good sometimes bad but I prefer fun over balance and that is the correct approach.
I have been playing project ascension since its conception back in 2016 and have seen it rise from its rocky start into the titan it has become today. I couldn't tell you how many different combinations of hero's I have created over the years! I have created and submitted several builds to the hero architect revolving around various legendary mystic enchants that allow for some unique build ideas. My favorite build I have submitted would be the "commando" build that revolves around "compound power" mystic enchant... a combo building gun wielder with no pet that uses traps, explosives and all sorts of stuns/slows to keep enemies at shooting range! I'm not the type to donate to private servers but ascension has given me 1000s of hours enjoyment over several years FREE OF CHARGE and I have given small donations to them on 3 different occasions simply because I believe they deserved it!
Specific project The developers made a mistake and rolled out an update. At high risk, the scrolls for training abilities and talents began to fall. The developers took and banned all the players, those who farmed these scrolls.
You left out the fact that people took advantage of this, specifically the fact that epics and scrolls shouldn't drop in high risk raids. It even says it on the item. Raids were formed and farmed out 1000's of scrolls and 1000's of gold by selling the epics. It was and exploit and people got banned rightfully.
I played back in 2017 or 18? i cant remember how long ago. But I do know that I used to be in an officer in a large alliance PvE guild called The People (when the no risk realm was called Andorhol) and I ended up becoming public enemy number 1 because i made a raiding DPS build using Shadow Priest and Affliction Warlock telents and a few other things. I was taking heavy advantage of the bug with resistances that classic wow just has never been able to fix and my DoTs were doing insane amounts of damage and healing with Vamp Embrace. A horde guild named Oak really wanted me to share the build and were actively sending PvP hit squads to try and bully me into explaining what I was doing. I quit the game for FF14 after a few months and took the secret to my accounts grave. The bug apparently has long since been fixed and I have no idea if any of these guilds still exist. I had a lot of fun and have not had as much fun on wow since my Ascension days.
Lol sounds like years ago when I was on a different free emulated wow server and I said, Lets make a haste paladin...later to find there was no HASTE CAP so once i saw my char page get to -102084109651 I knew something amazing happened...yep Rolodex of numbers above the enemy and it looked like she was dancing. Wish i had a video, but nope long before streaming days. There was a Lot of broken and unfinished things in Many of the free wow emulated servers, it was fun to find stuff.
Good to see you went from Dcuo to World of Warcraft (even if it's not the real wow), that's a major upgrade. I did the same thing a month back, finally quit Dcuo and went back to playing Wow retail again! World of Warcraft was actually my first MMO and it's what got me to try out Dcuo is the first place, i played both of them for years!
It's worth mentioning the Seasonal Server while fun, like I enjoy the hell out of the 'slot machine' and strategic choices of wildcard and draft mode, part of the point of those modes is its the beta test for all the new REs, before they can be added to A52. but you generally see entirely different groups of players on each server even though a bunch of them migrate back and forth over time.
I played a ton, got rank 14, raided in all difficults and have lot of fun. Also you can play awesome builds and very easy to get spot for raid. Started at season 6, grinded a lot season 7 and make a break season 8, returned to season 9 and going to another rank 14 tittle i love prestige bgs with my twink
what's the popular level range for twinking in Ascension? loved lvl 19 twinking back in mop/wod days. i cant pvp at the higher levels there are just too many spells
@@peanutbutterjelly5861 ín ascension you cant block xp gain, but you level very fast here. XP is boosted here, and there items who increse more your xp like an aura or xp pot. When you get 60 you can keep or you can prestige, if you prestige you keep all your stuff less skills and talents. Then you go lvl 1 again and can try another build or the same or whatever. Can stack gear and use on different brackets.
Its always been weird to me that this is still going whereas the other Classic server was shut down hardcore by Act/Blizz. The concept is absolutely fantastic and the folks behind the scenes are doing a great job. But its similarly why I didnt support CoH Homecoming, it wasn't licensed or legal. Certainly joining servers like this, you take the chance of repercussions, if any. Personally i never wanted to take the chance or even lose all the progress if something were to happen.
Its smart to not get invested in private servers, but they are always worth a bit of your time as they are often extremely fun and interesting. Usually private servers are safe from being shut down if they diverge from blizz-like servers which ascension has done from the beginning and continues doing today. The classic server that was hugely popular was blizz-like and blizzard had every right to shut it down sadly
As a very diverse game enthusiast from RPGs to FPS's I found myself yearning for a bit of nostalgia when watching this clip. Definitely thinking of giving this try since the last time I played WOW was in 2007.
I did did try it a year or so ago, did not quite catch me then. Came back like 2 monts ago and im loving it. Have played retail wow a lot every few years, and this is the most fun i have had in a decade, to say the least. Can't wait to see wotlk content implemented, but that could be a rlly long shot tho. Still, tbc and the additions thay made are just amazing, blizz o any mmorpg games company for that matter, should be taking notes.
I haven't played WOW in 6 years. I used to have 2 large guilds on Mak'Nathal then later on Bloodhoof, it's still called Blendersmoke (still at least on the second server). I moved to the middle of nowhere, bought a farm, and didn't have real internet for that 6 years. Finally after Elon freed me from slow satellite internet I decided to download it again and see how my old guild is doing today. The entire server is empty lol I'm going to give this "Ascension" thing a try. I'm more about the leveling and the actual game then end game stuff anymore anyway. I just miss the old stuff.
just got off my osrs magic grind to check this out. never played retail wow either. been playing ashen core with my friend via hamachi but this video convinced me to try it
i play it! and i love it too, iv never been into WoW just for the paywall it was, but for my partner it was his childhood and hes having such a blast showing me everything that gives him nostalgia it makes me so happy
That seems to be a problem, its very casual so much in fact most people don't bother to try to make friends or be friendly. I have helped countless players and only have a few friends who I can still contact from outside the game from all that.
if you were kaladin there would already be 30x FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN FELFORGED WHEN
Played for years it was a fresh play on WoW that Blizzard could have done in the beginning that would have made it far more popular. Absolutely love Ascension, only complaint is they have been working on Wrath of the Lich king for a few years now and really hope it comes out soon since it was my favorite expansion.
I've been playing Ascension sicne 2019. I would recomend anyone to this Private Server. It's free, and I never spend IRL money myself, and have a fun time with it! - I agree, them spiltting the player base between seasonal, and live servers are something I dislike. I only play during the new season releases, where to level cap is 60 and they go through Raid phases/releases of Molten Cote - Naxx. My personal favorite part about Ascension isn't the PvE content (Which is amazing btw). It's the High Risk PvP, it's a ton of fun to go out into the High Risk world, and farm to earn tons of gold risking it all against other players. Overall 10/10!
installed it twice, necver played it past lvl 5 it is fun and all but I got no time for it atm, when my WOW love rekindles I will play it because it is insanely good
if u need a quick starter guide on keybinds mcdoubles has a great key layout he goes through in his video just look up 'mcdoubles QUICK GUIDE TO KEYBINDING IN WORLD OF WARCRAFT' i was oblivious to keybinds until i found him otherwise id be clicking still to this day. his setup is for everyone and will make you a better player 10 fold no dout.
Started playing Project Ascension 3 years ago. I always dive into it for a couple of weeks, get bored and then come back after a big update. I've never played it enough to get to the endgame tho, my builds always sucked and I don't have the patience to make up another one or level up again (doesn't matter anyway, you can't do endgame content unless you have a meta build). The lack of endgame experience actually made me want to try retail for the first time when dragonflight launched, and I still play it to this day. Season 9 is currently VERY rng heavy and I'm not a big fan of that, so I'm waiting for the open alpha of their other big server, Conquest Of Azeroth.
I played it form time to time, last time was last year. It's incredibly well developed by the amount of custom theme park content it has. Very polished on that aspect imo. Game loops here are different. You won't find people lookin for low level groups in the world because that is not the game loop at all. You will find people looking for lvl 10's to get into a dungeon crawl with aura and pot to get to lvl 60 in like 50min. Anyways, my go to is playing the challenges and doing some low tier endgame content because I'm sure that at endgame this is as harsh in terms of meta as any high tier endgame in retail. The way this game feels and works literally scratches the "retail gameplay itch" for me when I'm not with a sub. Unless you are doing some slow play, enjoying the sights quests and lore in retail server, then for me it feels slightly the same in terms of quick action theme park for casual players like me. Then I really like all the challenges (nightmare/hardcore/dungeon boss hunter stuff and all of that) when leveling up and getting the chance to play with a fantasy build, but in the end I'll always drop it because this is a full on mechanical sandbox and after all, I am a RPG nerd
Been playing Ascension for years now. Personally I don't feel like the servers are dead at all, sure the chatter can be to a min on a server like A52 when a new seasonal server drops, but you don't normally have to wait long to get a dungeon finder queue to pop either. Ascension is a love letter to anyone who loved WoW during it's TBC and WotLK days.
Dark Age of Camelot>Everquest>Heroes Online>WoW> DCU>DDO> Zenith The Last City> Ilysia Was my own journey! Considering the internet was LITERALLY invented to connect to others over long distances quickly!
This is sooo good when it was only the vanilla content with wotlk spells here and there. Honestly, ascension was so fucking good! I've never had so much fun in wow.
I played WoW from its original release till half way through WOTLK ... religiously! paying the $15/ month for 5 years straight ! i gave them enough of my ( SOUL ) Money. I'd like to give Ascension a try for S&G's
I’ve never played WOW at all. However, I’m really into the open world type, multiplayer fantasy, customization class, weaponry, spells, etc. So I absolutely have a reason to download this game and give it a shot.
Been playing off and on for a few years now, currently actively playing it now. The server just keeps getting better every time I return, more refined and less buggy each passing day
I have been really impressed with Ascension. I'm a casual PvE gamer, and ascension makes the leveling part of the game a blast. I also decided to invest in Conquest of Azeroth. I also really enjoy that one, though I understand why most people would not be willing to spend money on an Alpha-stage project.
I played Project Ascension from late 2020 up until late last year, very on and off but sometimes I'd play for months in each season. It was a gun game for a time but learned that it was just a chaotic mess.
Ye think you can't know how to respond for other players abilities in pvp think its just offensive bursting with no calculations, would love to try something like affli warlock play in retail
The 21 class server is 100% worth the money. Once it's fully released, I would very much recommend checking it out. Each class and spec is entirely unique. My favorite, before it got reworked, was the thrown weapon spec for barbarian. Your entire kit revolved around you using your throwing weapons to dps. The lower your hp, the faster you attacked, the more damage you put out, and the harder you were to kill. It was crazy fun, but they later reworked it so there's more of a rotation than clicking Throw Weapon and topping the charts.
I stumbled across the name Ascension and immediately thought to myself, what the hell is that? I've never been a fan of mixing classes in MMORPGs. I always thought it was good that certain classes were there for certain tasks, and like all other MMOs where there are no fixed classes Ascension is not the game I would enjoy. Apart from that, I'm always scared of Pay to win on private server hosted Games and I don't think it's good and don't want to support it under any circumstances, but thank you for the very informative video. Thumbs up and keep it up!!
i play ascension, and i have to say, i am in love with just the combos you can come up with. Being that i played other MMOs, Like Everquest, I played as a Shadowknight, and effectively on ascension, i made my own take on it that is a Warrior with Warlock Curses and spells, as well as shadow priest spells, as well as DK's Undead control. Currently playing DK spells on Ascension's Wrath server, and they are powerful af but you do have to get into some grinding on the Wrath Server as it gives you an instant level 70 BUT only with the basic gear like a chest item, boots, pants, shoulders, helm, and weapons. Now Conquest of Azeroth server, that is a whole other imagination that is incredibly fun to play, but also a bit buggy as in like your entire talent tree can disappear and such.
Played a few years back had fun then moved on. The whole rng spells and abilities grinded on me after a while when i kept getting trash abilities and spells. So coul never really get what i wanted
you know that there is a free pick server where you can choose what abilities you want & talents ? You even have builds pre made by people, you can create your build and share it to
The biggest problem is as you mentioned, all this mix and match seems great at first but you soon realise that your characters are generally underpowered. You feel like you should be hitting harder given the abilities that you have but they are, essentially, window dressing. I still play Ascension from time to time but for now, at least, my Blizzard sub is still rolling.
Ascension also has the issue that all WoW private servers have: Its community is god awful. WoW already attracts some real basement dwellers, but private servers multiply this by 10. It's insane what absolute degenerate shit you can sometimes be confronted with. So Highly recommend finding and 100% sticking to a guild if someone ever was to play it. And yeah, the problem is there's a ton of choices, most of which boil down to "does this fit my Legendary RE?". Now it's replaced by something else this season, cool, but at the end of the day you're STILL playing vanilla WoW and cheesing 90% of all bosses.
Ascension has been around for a long time and there's been an insane amount of "balance" and heavy nerfing. What you might think would be OP probably isn't. There are Metas each Season/Chapter, just like any RPG and/or MMO. It's still an incredibly unique and impressive project and 100% worth a try. Definitely try playing on Elune (Season 9) to see the development teams latest features they're testing.
IMO Even if you're not trying to use something that is overpowered the game is still fun. Getting better gear is important improving your characters in terms of damage dealt and damage taken, it's hard for new players to understand the baseline for where you should be in terms of damage/avoidance wise, when longtime players have set the baseline for experimenting at an already kinda geared level. The nice thing about gear is you're never truly stuck with gear, the new call board quests let you get some decent dungeon gear to help you catch up to heroics as a fresh 60/70. It's a catch 22. The best option is to pick something skill/talent wise that you know is viable, but may not necessarily match your build idea. Either that or you do lower damage overall until you get geared, so it's not a bad idea to take a filler ability/enchant something that can carry you through to where you can fully flesh things out and take the appropriate enchants/talents to improve your damage. Basically synergy between your build idea and the abilities/enchants you pick is everything, so you have to sometimes use abilities/enchants as a sort of package that works as different parts of your build. Like just throwing things together typically will not end well, so if there is something you want to use like a certain idea, you have to kinda work the talent and enchantment system to make the build idea work. For example think like pairing different talent capstones together that work on the same abilities or affects the same modifiers, or enchantments that add or change your talents/abilities. There's tons of different enchantments that affect your build ranging from build changing/enabling to boosting up specific talents with extra ranks. Transmog has also been a useful shortcut for certain specific build ideas, allowing you to take more viable options both gear and build wise while maintaining the look and feel of the character you're going for.
Do you play Ascension?
Never heard of it before but now I definitely will give it a shot
I've played there for years. BAU
Currently on hiatus, as I can't stand Season 9's Game Mode; the lack of Ability Slots you can Card is attrocious, and is the laziest way to balance a game I have ever seen. Hopefully S7 comes back(with Felmode!)
Fuck no, when I used to play you would need to buy the store shit every season. straight throwing money away. Devs also banned people for dumb shit, it was corrupt. I remember a guy making videos on the state of ascencion and the devs banned him cuz they didn't want him speaking up.
yep i made i surprisingly good character build with the hoplite enchant
Yes. It's easily the best private server simply due to being a Classless systerm.
I play mostly solo, not a very social player, but I still really enjoy the server. 3-4 years and counting. It's fun but I don't usually do group content outside of dungeons because I don't have a friend group, and I have severe PUG anxiety because people in any version of wow can be toxic over the slightest things.
I dont find ascension players toxic. I played alot through season 7 and 8 and everyone was kind and helpful
honestly most ascension players are actually the nicest wow players i’ve ever met
awe dude i wanna get into ascension again for the fun and people, if youre still playing i would love to start a new toon if your also down
I have a pretty good time for the most part. There's been a few toxic players here or there but it's nothing compared to my experiences with retail.
@@cowardley I'd be down to play some tomorrow
You got to give credit to the development team from Ascension. Every time I look at the game, it is reworked in a even better way. But, some of the end game gearing process is arcane. If you don't find someone to explain and help, you get very lost in all the enchanting shenanigans that you need/can do. They should streamline that mechanic a LOT to get new players to stay, but the older players that already know the mechanic hate talking about this.
Idk about the last part, been playing since beta and I always help with new player questions
I think it's moreso that people who know aren't talking about it, and those who don't aren't sure who to ask about it.
"it is reworked in a even better way"
Newness, all the time, gets old really fast.
That's the problem with a game that has "no" classes: It has ONE class, being the build that does the best.
yeah only a few builds are viable for each play style (range, melee, tank, healer) out of which should be dozens. none of the classes get the attention they need rather than back door updates 5-10% nerfs/buffs here and there.
Maybe that’s something for after northrend.
shout out to the OG Guild wars within the first few seconds of the video.
Never knew you were a og player, much respect V
I played it a bit here and there as a kid, my dad’s PC couldn’t run it well. Recently went back and got my LDOA!
ya underrated game
@@VagrantVideosYou should play guild wars 2. As for this mod, craptavision banhammer impact in 3... 2... 1...
Lived and breathed it for four or so years. It has the largest learning curve of any pvp scene I've played. That being said, the pvp is really really fun.
I bet, the constant changing meta has to be insane.
Been playing for a couple seasons. So much fun
As someone who has played wow in it's "golden years" im going to give this a swing
i have never played wow should i play this? like is the base stuff and story in this?
As a solo mmorpg player I am downloading this as I type and the customisation looks right up my street
Having the option to share builds with other players is amazing, even browsing builds is interesting on it's own, but I'm enjoying turtle for now
I just started playing the game looks really good like it’s had a runelite added to it.
Ascension content? Instant Subscribe. been wanting some of this since i started.
Maybe it is not "fair", but seeing most raids be 80% Warriors(because they're the best tanks, and best dps) is kind of a bad design
Because warriors are so bad in pvp in any scenario where they haven´t got a pocket healer though, I really don´t mind those poor souls dominating where they can.
thanks for this comprehensive synopsis, I've been considering it for the past years. i was just hesitant.
New to the game and I'm enjoying the prestige challenges. Trying to build my account up and earning heirlooms.
It's fun! I think it's going to keep me busy for a few months at least. I know this video was made two months ago, but at least on Area52, the Ascension channel (default /1) is a cesspool that I am forced into every login, and generally find myself typing /leave 1 because of how bad it is.
Some pros:
Challenge modes like Nightmare (300-500% extra damage taken, die once you lose), Ironman (Never die until max level, can't get any help), Inn-Sane (Ironman but you can only heal hp/mp at an Inn) etcetc.
Horde and Alliance can play with each other
Some cons:
Some builds are just significantly better than others.
The ton of new classes they added are amazing.
This sounds like an advertisement bot comment.
i always come back to ascension every few seasons and this latest season stuff is pretty neat!. also i got into their custom class COA (work in progress) and i think its cool trying new classes they made up.
ive put in hundreds of hours for freee and recently i decided throw them some $$ because i wanted to show support. the fact blizzard effectively semi-ripped off mystic enchants for Season of discovery shows that ascension has a good idea of what players like and what the game could become.
ascension i believe is the #1 custom private server thats here to stay for the long run.
im surprised how they never got shut down
They can't
@@Jubafree how so
@@ExelArts they can just order the server host to shut it down but most private servers have backups so they can just set it up an be online within days.
Great video, convinced me to give it a try. Thanks!
Nice dude!! I’m really looking forward to trying it out!
Also, you have the best last name anyone could have.
Ascension has a content creator's discord. If you submit this video you'll earn some DP (donation points) that you can use to buy stuff in ascension.
Just tried it out a few days ago! Already level 70 and grinding in Area 52! SUPER FUN HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Specific project
The developers made a mistake and rolled out an update.
At high risk, the scrolls for training abilities and talents began to fall.
The developers took and banned all the players, those who farmed these scrolls.
seems odd to ban people for a developer mistake...if anything, they should roll back the update and take the items away?
@@Titan5837 They didn't ban those who had drops , they banned those who abused and took advantage of the mistake to get an edge over others players.
@@nicolaspierre5630 that makes more sense.

It's worth mentioning the Seasonal Server while fun, like I enjoy the hell out of the 'slot machine' and strategic choices of wildcard and draft mode, part of the point of those modes is its the beta test for all the new REs, before they can be added to A52. but you generally see entirely different groups of players on each server even though a bunch of them migrate back and forth over time.
im gonna try and play it now , great video man
I played a ton, got rank 14, raided in all difficults and have lot of fun.

Homecoming finally got accepted by NCSoft though so that will in theory never get CND.
Edit: lol couldn’t remember the name so I just said arena net
@@VagrantVideos yeah super happy for them to get that license. NCSoft actually did a smart move there lol
Its also hosted in France so apparently that helps them avoid any legal troubles, from what little I understand about it all.
As a very diverse game enthusiast from RPGs to FPS's I found myself yearning for a bit of nostalgia when watching this clip. Definitely thinking of giving this try since the last time I played WOW was in 2007.
wow
I did did try it a year or so ago, did not quite catch me then. Came back like 2 monts ago and im loving it. Have played retail wow a lot every few years, and this is the most fun i have had in a decade, to say the least.
Can't wait to see wotlk content implemented, but that could be a rlly long shot tho. Still, tbc and the additions thay made are just amazing, blizz o any mmorpg games company for that matter, should be taking notes.
The RuneScape mentality is why I love Ascension the freedom of creating my OWN character and not being a clone of some other douche

I love Project Ascension, I play both wildcard mode and regular.
I can't believe I've never heard of this before! Downloading now!
Great video !
superb content my boy

I do play Ascension fairly regularly, but I never found myself being able to cling on for an entire season, due to playing all by myself.
That seems to be a problem, its very casual so much in fact most people don't bother to try to make friends or be friendly. I have helped countless players and only have a few friends who I can still contact from outside the game from all that.
I played a long time ago but not the project version... Downloading as we speak and I'm gonna try it out once again!! Would love a friend or two
I have played Ascension and i liked it very much. Well done, good ideas and well advertised.
Just started playing Ascension after over 15 years away from retail.... it's been a great time so far!!

I agree, them spiltting the player base between seasonal, and live servers are something I dislike.
Fully custom WC classes is all I ever wanted!
installed it twice, necver played it past lvl 5 it is fun and all but I got no time for it atm, when my WOW love rekindles I will play it because it is insanely good
Great video. I am now downloading to try
Giving it a look doing research to see if it's worth putting in time though.

Thanks for Playing this Art of WoW
Gonna try it out today, wish me luck, nerds!
It's funny the last time I played wow was during burning crusade, so I was right at home here. It's fun.
bruh this is badass i think ill try it
i had cold sweat when youtuber made review on any of the private server.
I'm actively playing it, already dumped over the years at least 1.5k € in it nad am not stopping anytime soon
Dark Age of Camelot>Everquest>Heroes Online>WoW> DCU>DDO> Zenith The Last City> Ilysia Was my own journey! Considering the internet was LITERALLY invented to connect to others over long distances quickly!
Man I’d love to cover DAOC one day.
This is sooo good when it was only the vanilla content with wotlk spells here and there.
Honestly, ascension was so fucking good!
I've never had so much fun in wow.
I've been playing since a month ago, awesome server
Yo the RS kid go hard
It's the best private server out there IMO, and very professionally crafted. Far better than anything offered on official servers, IMHO.
Definitely gunna try it out!
I never could play wow as a kid. Couldn’t afford the monthly payment lol. Been really thinking about ascension
I was looking to get back into wow but that sounds much better
The 21 class server is 100% worth the money. Once it's fully released, I would very much recommend checking it out. Each class and spec is entirely unique.
My favorite, before it got reworked, was the thrown weapon spec for barbarian. Your entire kit revolved around you using your throwing weapons to dps. The lower your hp, the faster you attacked, the more damage you put out, and the harder you were to kill. It was crazy fun, but they later reworked it so there's more of a rotation than clicking Throw Weapon and topping the charts.
i want to play that... thats for sure
Man, I miss Barrens chat
I stumbled across the name Ascension and immediately thought to myself, what the hell is that? I've never been a fan of mixing classes in MMORPGs. I always thought it was good that certain classes were there for certain tasks, and like all other MMOs where there are no fixed classes Ascension is not the game I would enjoy.
Apart from that, I'm always scared of Pay to win on private server hosted Games and I don't think it's good and don't want to support it under any circumstances, but thank you for the very informative video.
Thumbs up and keep it up!!
I like the video but "ridiculous" implies there's something wrong with it yet you said all positive things.
I get where you’re coming from on that. But for some reason the first time I saw it, I immediately thought “Okay! Must be pretty insane!” Lmao
i play ascension, and i have to say, i am in love with just the combos you can come up with.
Ascension really has growth potential. Good Game
Played a few years back had fun then moved on. The whole rng spells and abilities grinded on me after a while when i kept getting trash abilities and spells. So coul never really get what i wanted
you know that there is a free pick server where you can choose what abilities you want & talents ? You even have builds pre made by people, you can create your build and share it to
I joined Discord in 2016 because of this Game. I haven't played it in years though.
that's really cool a big props to the developers!!!
Those restrictions are only for Area 52. Elune has no restrictions because it is wildcard mode
im downloading ascension as we speak ive always believed wow needed an elite class that combines all classes into one
