END of SEASON Barbel Fishing on the River Severn | Sometimes You've Gotta FAKE it to MAKE it..!

- A significant changes in conditions (finally!) for the last week of the season on the River Severn.. After a terrible autumn/winter of continual high water levels and floods - I'm presented with a low and clear river for what is likely to be my last session of the 2023/2024 river fishing season.
A switch of approach to fishing maggots with fake maggots on the hook is my chosen approach to pickup a bites on a Club Water section of the evern downstream of Shrewsbury.

The equipment I used during this session is as follows -
Korum Omega Rods 2.25lb TC
Shimano ST4000 Baitrunners
12lb Korum Barbel line
10lb Flourocarbon Hooklength
2oz Korum Combi Feeders
Terminal Tackle - Korum Camo Bolt/Run Kit
Hook - Size 8 Korum Grappler
Hookbaits - Fake/Imitation Maggots (Korum Flouro Maggots)
3 pints of red maggots to run through the feeder (I should have taken more!)
If you wish to get in touch with me - You can message me via my Facebook Page (Rob's Angling). I'll respond back as soon as I can to you.
Thanks for watching

It's about time the close season on river's was abolished. We as angler's pay to use the river yet for three months we're not allowed to fish for course fish and anyone can use it for recreation and pay nothing to use the river.
I guess other recreational users (boaters, kayakers, the occasional mental swimmer..) don’t interfere with the spawning cycle like we do as anglers? I always understood the closed season to be a time the fish were given peace to build up to/spawn/recover without the distraction and disruption of anglers, baiting, being caught. That said from my experience (fishing polders these days in the Netherlands) the peak month for spawning is a waste of time for fishing anyway (like humans I guess, fish tend to not think so much about eating when hanky panky is on the agenda).
In my youth I actually loved the excitement of the glorious 16th, planning where to go and how to approach it - and the. finding the Avon, Stour and Blythe all completely rejuvenated since March. Stinging nettles and all!
The closed season is there so the Salmon runs are protected for the fluff chuckers. It has nothing to do with spawning.
Fish spawn at different times of the year and frequently they spawn a few times.
Remember, this is a very old law, and the upper classes who fished for salmon, didn't want the peasants catching "their salmon".
It should be abolished, I agree.
Great session 👍 roll on june 16th 👍
Absolutely - Counting down the days already! 🤯🤣👍
Some good information there Rob. Good result in difficult conditions. You hit the nail on the head when you say they won't be moving far. The river has knocked me down a peg or two in its current state! Very difficult. Look forward to your next video. 👍
You’ve done well getting a few bites mate - It’s not been easy by any stretch this winter. Hopefully it’s more settled next time around 🤞👍
good to see you out again rob, up the shrews. regards mick.
Cheers Mick - Be good to catch up at some point in the summer 👍🎣
Great informative video Rob, and what a weekend for you brace of Barbel & a away win for the Shrews 👏
Absolutely - Thanks Roy.. I’ll take a few more days like that 👌🎣⚽️

that looks like a cracking run, id be tempted for a bit of trotting for anythin
That swim would make a good trotting spot - One to remember for the summer 👍
Great video Rob. I indeed was a cold day on the river that day. You did better than me mate. Blankety blank for my efforts as you know 😢😂👍🏻🎣💥
Cheers Kenny.. Funny old winter mate. Rivers will probably be crying out for rain by the time 16th June rocks up 🤣🙈
Loved your videos this season Rob - many thanks. Fishing with maggots is hit and miss…I tend to get silver fish with the occasional eel! Was there any reason why you fished maggots on both rods? My approach is always to use different baits on each rod? Looking forward to June already!
Thanks Barry.. The water was very clear and slow there so it looked perfect for the maggot approach. I do like splitting my approach most sessions but felt confident in the maggot approach so went with it on both rods 👍🎣
I fished that spot a couple of summers ago. Had a couple of barbel out biggest being 7lb
Great section - Spoilt for choice for miles of great river around Shrewsbury 👌👍
Rob have you fished the other side of Stourport 2 Worcester oh by the way good fishing rob hope to see you on the bank one day
Hi Dave, I’ve not fished down there but I do plan to have a look around a few stretches nearby in the close season. Hopefully see you on the banks one day 👍🎣
Hey Rob , enjoying your channel and you're excellent laid back presentation.
Couple of questions if you don't mind.
If you have never fished a stretch before , how long do you spend in each swim , when you have good conditions
Secondly , do you do guiding ?
Thanks
Hi Dave, I’d usually spend 60-90 mins max in a peg on a first visit and stay mobile to then fish a few swims. I find that’s the best way to get to know a stretch and the natural spots fish like to hold up in. Ref guiding - I’ve done some in the past however I’m generally short of time with work and my kids to get enough time on the banks for my own fishing. Drop me a message in the summer and we can see if a convenient date/time exists if we’re in the same area at any time. 👍🎣
Great video again.
Unconnected, but were you on the train from Euston up to Birmingham on the evening of Sunday 25th Feb ? Was debating whether saying hello but didn't want to look a prat if it wasn't you. 😂
Hi Chris, Yes it would have been me 🤣🤣 - I’d been working at the Carabao Cup final on that Sunday. Give me a shout if you see me again. 👍
Great video as always Rob and looks a nice stretch that. Is it Atcham and if so who owns the fishing rights?
Thanks Lee.. It’s one of the PAAS stretches.. They’ve got a few around there with plenty of decent swims 👍
Hi Rob great video as always I'm hoping to get out on my stretch of the Wye before the end of the season,, I'm hoping to fish some fake luncheon meat which I've had soaking in some liquid for a while never fished fake luncheon before but thought I'd give it a go. Have you ever fished it before? Keep up the good work😊
Good luck Richard.. I’ve not tried that one myself.. Hope you have a few out 👍🎣
