This video is about me explaining my experiences with the Oculus Quest 1, and how it is to use in early 2024. #oculusquest #oculusquest2 #vr #metaquest2
As an owner of the Quest 1 AND Quest 3 in 2024, the Quest 1 is NOT worth it. Its standalone is unusable by todays standards and its a waste of money if you're going to get it for PCVR. If you want to JUST dip your toes into VR, I would recommend the Quest 2 now that it's at $200 USD, or the Quest 3 lite coming out for an estimated $300 USD. IF you want the best experience you can have in VR RIGHT NOW, the Quest 3 is $400-$500(depending on bundle) or you can opt for a used Valve index for headsets under $1000.
@@LATABUR Its estimated late 2024 but if not, early 2025. I believe that they're actually gonna have an official announcement regarding the Quest 3s/lite in one of Meta's next presentations coming up soon in fact. Most of that info is just speculation right now however, so take it with a grain of salt.
Thank you very much for this video, I don't watch many videos about the Quest 1 these days, it caught my attention because it is extremely cheap and other VR headsets are quite expensive here in Brazil.
@@aardbei557 100% Please don't get a Quest 1 because this video says so. You'll have a horrible experience because the software is nowhere near up to date, and the headset feels very slow with its latest firmware update(thats like 2 years old now nearly).
just saying, i have an old quest 1 from my brother( he has a quest 2), i really recommend other vr headsets. it has a lot of cons with it such as, cool games like rec room (cant play bc no more support) [beatsaber is also going to stop support on nov 1 2024] NO CALLS!? i srsly cant just hop into a party call in quest one because the owner of the company removed the feature (why?) and lastly, you cant even play games without having to wait like 10 minutes. I got a Quest 1 simply because I had a broken Rift S with good controllers and I wanted a headset for my friend to use on PC when he comes over, since I already have a quest 2. The thing I dislike the most about the Quest 1 is the comfort. The stock facial interface is very uncomfortable and the stock headband hurts the back of my head. I 3D printed a replacement facial interface base and I plan to stick a velcro Vive cover onto it kinda like the one on yours. For the headband, theres a rear pad I got that you can still order today, its a triangle shaped cushion that you velcro onto the stock strap. You can also get a halo style replacement strap for the quest 1 today but I havent tried it. One cool tip is that the controllers use the same internal joysticks as the Quest 2 so if you have stick drift you can replace it with a new one.
Thats cool, I hope you enjoy your Quest 3 when you get it, I'm super happy that I was able to get a Quest 2 this year, the first time I turned it on I had a huge smile on my face because it was so cool.
Didn't expect someone else to stil be using a quest 1 :D Though you bought it now and not at launch still find it fun. Sure, it's big, doesn't have the best resolution compare to what it is now, but it's still a capable vr headset for pcvr if you have one, plus it's very cheap when used. Though i do wish to upgrade soon to something like a pico 4 because the technology has improved so much since then
@@synonymdonut I'm the kind of person who can use and old piece of tech as long as it works as intended and provides a satisfactory experience (i'm poor)
i use mine, sold my quest 3 recently. i couldnt get over the extremely poor black levels, black looks like a fairly light grey. everything else was great though. i used that money to get a psvr2, though im also not happy with it, its lenses are garbage and if you run it at anything less than 80% res it looks worse than the quest 1, so im going to sell that as well and give the quest pro a shot, its local dimming is apparently decent according to people ive talked to and videos on youtube.
I have Q3 but I still use Q1 for indoor PCVR games (nothing beat OLED in VR immersion) real black, vibrant colors, image looks alive not just like a grainy screen.

If you pick up any top end unit like a Pimax 8K or bigscreen, you're looking at at least a grand just for the headset (not including trackers or controllers)
Absolutely yes for indoor PCVR games, the Oled image looks more immersive than any of today’s LCD headsets. It's also a yes for photogrammetry in Microsoft Flight Simulator because the screen door effect hides deforming buildings and enhances the experience with awesome colors, deep blacks at night, and vibrant sunshine.

Yeah there's not much content around for this original headset. Its down to $50 due to End Of Life but my only hopes is Virtual Desktop really comes thru for this headset (or someone finds a way to unlock the headset). I just wanna use this until it doesn't work anymore.
Ive been using the quest 1 but stopped because i got a quest 2 but quest 1 was amazing i stopped at february 2024 btw cuz if the quest 1 didnt exist then the quest 2 and 3 wouldnt either
"Overpriced Quest 3" I think you don't understand it why price on quest 3 is this way priced. Compared to other headset and what headset can do, is good price. Because it has not much flaws except LCD panels, other things on headset are good, so good that makes the price acceptable. You don't want buy a lot for "bad" headset, but you're willing pay more if headset is GOOD. Do we not agreed with it? Nothing wrong with price. I owned Q3 and i am happy with it, because price is good for me. You just don't follow the headset market well. If you're really poor, get Quest 2. Much cheaper and still good for price, can do very well for PCVR and MANY 3rd party solutions.
still using my Q1 as a PCVR headset today. The only big issue I have is the Rift app and my headset only likes certain USB ports. I would use the back USB 3.2 inputs but I recently moved my PC and the cable is not long enough. yes, I'm still using the OG USB2 link cable. Don't worry I should be having a different 16ft cord arrive soon to replace it. I have been thinking about moving onto an Index, Vive, or whatever is the best PCVR headset nowadays as I ONLY use it for PCVR because as you said things Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is WAY too slow with its "Up to 2.45 GHz clock speed".
If you want to upgrade your PCVR headset, its still probably the best option to go with the quest 3, and just buy a very good link cable (or good internet for airlink)

@@henrikarvag6182for pcvr, go get it, for standalone, maybe, a lot of games just does not work on quest 1 anymore, maybe with some workarounds but not every game will have any
The index HMD is really dated at this point, valve really needs to drop the price on the standalone HMD. However when it comes to the entire kit half of what you are paying for are the HTC base stations and controllers. Which at the moment are the best on the market. The main problem you're gonna find with the quest units is they have pretty crap bandwidth. The Quest 3 XR2 controller caps out wifi6e to 1.2 and USBC to 2.4. Which isn't a huge deal unless you're cranking that super sampling and refresh all the way up.
I would not recommend paying anywhere near $200 for a Quest 1 considering you can get a brand new Quest 2 for the same price. Now if you get it for under $70 in good/like new condition, then you can say low price. I only paid $60 with shipping cost included for the one I got 3 weeks ago. It is essentially new since previous owner barely used it with the only thing missing being the charging/transfer cable which I already have mutilpe high speed USB-C's laying around.
I would confirm very SLOW loading times. Android-based OS would load in 3-6 minutes, depending on your luck and status of hand tracking/direct touch (seriously, Quest boots up a bit faster if both of these features are OFF). Virtual Desktop boots up to 30 seconds, Beat Saber/Synth Riders - 1-2 minutes. Booting up PSMoveServiceEX while Quest 1 loads up kind of compensates long boottime, but it won't work when you don't need FBT. However, the huge advantage of OG Quest is ability to run any Oculus GO/Gear VR game, including (but not limited to) Smash Hit VR. Actual Oculus GO costs like Quest 1 on used market, and Gear VR requires old Galaxy S phone to operate. A nice bonus to have.
I feel so dumb buying a Quest 1 when most people have already gotten superior upgrades. I got it years ago but still don't even feel like I got value out of it. I don't know.
Same I still have the quest 1 because I stopped caring about VR for a while and forgot about it, having this quest compared to the 2 that came out after it feels like the equivalent of having an Xbox 360 compared to an Xbox one lol, this thing is huge I can't wait to get a quest 3 so I can finally use VR without feeling like I have a plane taped to my forehead 😂🙏
I got the Quest 1 in 2019 and barely used it then just because it was so uncomfortable. It’s really front heavy, drags your face down, hurts your nose like crazy and and just feels uncomfortable overall on your face. I don’t know how to explain it but it just felt like a chore using it, especially the lack of games and support, just get a Quest 2 or 3.
100% There's a lot of people that still have a Quest 1 in the comments justifying getting it. I get where they're coming from, but to be frank all of these guys are biased over something they purchased to try and lie to themselves that the Quest 1 isn't a brick--- which it basically is now. Quest 1 near me sells for just as much used as a brand new Quest 2. Please just get a Quest 2 or wait for a Quest 3 lite. For the sake of the consumer and also VR enthusiasts that don't want other people putting down their headsets for good after being disappointed.
I dont use passthrough or in need to play RE4 VR or Assassins Creed on the newer quests. On my quest one, im able to upscale as much as possible and game/watch movies with an oled screen thats hard to beat. I say the main downfall is the weight and end of life support this august. But I hope we can see some more love for this headset. Thanks for shining light on the quest 1.
iam a first hand owner of the quest 1 iam it's first owner. i bought it like late 2019's with for 499$ for 128 GB although i do regret that because i only play PCVR titles i shouldve bought the cheaper version but this VR headset is close to my heart and special for me as it feels much more luxurious than the quest 2 and quest 3 by "some" aspects for example build quality and OLED screens and 2 fricking audio jacks! I will never sell it but i will definetly upgrade it for either the leaked Quest 3s or a rumored Valve index 2
As someone who doesn’t care about what the headsets contain, I’m just gonna say: If you want something cheap (in VR standards): Buy the Quest 2, if you want something that just honestly looks cool: Buy the Quest 3, if you want to waste your money: Buy the Quest 1, if you want to waste MORE money: Buy the Quest Pro.

Quest 2 for standalone. If you have a really good PC, you can definitely use the link cable or virtual desktop (preferred cause it supports low end graphics) to continue enjoying this after the End of Life.
Not gtag anymore, unless you have an existing account that was created and had gorilla tag "purchased" before may, however Gorilla tag will work on PC. And for Roblox it only works with PCVR on Q1.
I bought the 1st Quest in 2019 during covid from a scalper for $500. Still have it to this day, it runs ok on pcvr. But now it doesn't wanna connect anymore. I'm so ready to upgrade to the Quest 3.
@@synonymdonut From Quest 2 to Quest 3, sure if you have the money but no if you're a 13 year old that wants another birthday present. 100%
There's a lot of people that still have a Quest 1 in the comments justifying getting it.
@@wingsoficarus1139yep I agree with you especially the people trying to justify their purchase on it
Feest Flat
I dont use passthrough or in need to play RE4 VR or Assassins Creed on the newer quests. On my quest one, im able to upscale as much as possible and game/watch movies with an oled screen thats hard to beat. I say the main downfall is the weight and end of life support this august. But I hope we can see some more love for this headset. Thanks for shining light on the quest 1.
The quest 1s legacy will live on...
i never upgraded. i still use the meta quest 1.. all i ever play is table tennis and i just bought pickleball one which is sitll compatible
Nice
iam a first hand owner of the quest 1 iam it's first owner. i bought it like late 2019's with for 499$ for 128 GB although i do regret that because i only play PCVR titles i shouldve bought the cheaper version but this VR headset is close to my heart and special for me as it feels much more luxurious than the quest 2 and quest 3 by "some" aspects for example build quality and OLED screens and 2 fricking audio jacks! I will never sell it but i will definetly upgrade it for either the leaked Quest 3s or a rumored Valve index 2
@@mpg7115 yeah it was made to be a more high end device, while the quest 2 was more of a budget device
Yeah but it's still sad they discontinued it that quick@@synonymdonut
The only reason I want it is because I needed to finish my collection of all my quest headsets.
I still use my Quest 1 despite it going out of service.
@@Nonsensical-01 it’s always good to keep using “old” technology
As someone who doesn’t care about what the headsets contain, I’m just gonna say: If you want something cheap (in VR standards): Buy the Quest 2, if you want something that just honestly looks cool: Buy the Quest 3, if you want to waste your money: Buy the Quest 1, if you want to waste MORE money: Buy the Quest Pro.
Lol
I have the quest one I hop on gorilla tag and it starts at 7 s
@@Unknown-45x damn lucky, mine must be bugged or something
I really wish quest 1 still worked :(
no
hello there
Hi
On the first oculus you can also run some games that are not supported there, the main thing is that the game version is up to 50v (I am writing from a translator)
I completed bonelab and resident Evil 4 on the first quest
How@@doshikMafiosnik
@doshikMafiosnik How were you able to install and run both of those games on the quest 1?
@@itswhatever9686 If you download a game downloaded for version 50 of the quest, it will start on quest 1. You need to look for such games on the Internet
@@PurpleGuy1987 If you download a game downloaded for version 50 of the quest, it will start on quest 1. You need to look for such games on the Internet
Should I buy a quest 1 for $50 or spend $150 on a quest 2? (Not a real gamer just play for fun when I’m buzzed or blazed)
@@AK47z if you have a pc go for quest 1 otherwise go quest 2
@@synonymdonutAppreciate the info I have multiple pc’s. Last question can I play manhunt on the quest 1?
@@AK47z if you have a pc with a better GPU than the 970, you should be able to play most VR games
Quest 2 for standalone. If you have a really good PC, you can definitely use the link cable or virtual desktop (preferred cause it supports low end graphics) to continue enjoying this after the End of Life.
No
Do you need a pc for it because im saving for it so is there anything i should know
@@MONEYTR33YT with some games yea
What about gtag?
@@MONEYTR33YT it’s weird, some people were able to get it, and some people aren’t. I propably wouldn’t get your hopes up
Ok thanks u helped me a lot
So can this play gtag and Roblox? Because my brother found a working one perfectly working for 50 bucks does it have those games?
Not gtag anymore, unless you have an existing account that was created and had gorilla tag "purchased" before may, however Gorilla tag will work on PC. And for Roblox it only works with PCVR on Q1.
@@synonymdonutgot my quest 1 and I could still download gorilla tag so w I guess?
I bought the 1st Quest in 2019 during covid from a scalper for $500. Still have it to this day, it runs ok on pcvr. But now it doesn't wanna connect anymore. I'm so ready to upgrade to the Quest 3.
@@Jayvone1000 nice
Hey man. If you're connecting through link, switch to Virtual Desktop. That might be a better route to go.
@@SaharatOfficial or even steam link maybe
how did u become so funny?
I decided to write better scripts
Side Note, I am now saving up $800 for a quest 3. Guess I'll eat my words.
Nice
Yummy words
dipping your toes into da pool was worth it after all
Hey I'm also broke
Me too man 😂. Quest 2 is now $200 and if this gives out, it'll be my go to but I really love the OLED for watching movies that are on my PC.
I have quest 2 and quest 3
Do you think the upgrade is worth it?
@@synonymdonut From Quest 2 to Quest 3, sure if you have the money but no if you're a 13 year old that wants another birthday present. Its only a noticeable upgrade if you REALLY try and meticulously compare details.
Otherwise, the Quest 3 is much more comfortable than the Quest 2 IMO and the pancake lenses are no joke on PC.
Also where's the quest three?
I heard the gorilla tag not on the quest 1 anymore is that true?
Yeah, can’t download it anymore
@@synonymdonut Bro i got the oculus quest and bro I can play gorilla tag on it i don’t have no idea if you’re lying or other people are lying

No but some of the most fun things will need to be sidequested in.
