great video! Just turned 70, and I've wanted a CB since I was a little kid. Finally got one of these, and I'm like a little kid with a great toy. Never too old to have a happy childhood!!! "
I drive up to my mom's in PA from Baltimore all the time, and I like driving at night. I always appreciate the hard working truck drivers I see in passing throughout the whole trip, and sometimes wish I could just say hello to them. As much as it is fun, it's also a great piece of emergency equipment to have in any vehicle. It's another great way to call for help if you really needed it. Nice video, I'm a noob of similar caliber to yourself. 😄
I got my first CB radio back in 1974 it was a 23 channel and a year later I went to a 40, my handle was Barracuda. I had it about a year and then it was stolen out of my VW van and I never bought a replacement. Now 2021 I decided to get a new one and ordered this midland here, I think I did the right move with this radio. It will be interesting getting back to the CB world again, thanks for the upload...
Great video I just got the same radio last year and the other night I hooked it up to a wilson 1000 on top of my pickup and I heard chatter on almost every channel when I usually hear nothing
LOL, I got my first CB back in the early 70’s. They have come a long long way since then. Glad to see you are sticking with it. Don’t buy another swr meter. All you need is a pl259 connector cable to hook up your swr meter. Make sure you are not operating your radio below 2.5 swr so that you don’t damage your radio. Wishing you the best in your cb ventures.
That connector is a PL-259. That Midland is the same radio as the Cobra. All SWR meters have the same SO-239 connectors you have to get a short coax jumper with PL-259 ends. And you have to get the SWRs down as close to 1-1 as possible. And every time you adjust the antenna you have to reset the 0. If it is to close to the red you can fry the finals in the radio.
If you want to stick with a magnet mount antenna. I haven’t found one any better than the Wilson 1000. A friend of mine has that radio with a wilson 1000 and it performs great. Just as good as a full size Cb radio. That antenna you bought will work but it’s not going to perform very well. The difference between the one you got and the Wilson 1000 will. The night and day.
Thank you for your review. I have been thinking about getting one of these for my Jeep. I figured it would be good radio to be able to put away and lock it away being that the jeep is usually open with no doors or top… Lol
I’ve had this radio for two years and happy with the mobile performance using a 4-foot Firestik antenna. I’ve also used it as a walkie-talkie where I was able to talk about ¼ mile.
It's been a long time but if I remember correctly, what you're testing with the antenna is resistance, which is measured in ohms; if there's too much resistance that can cause back wash which can damage the radio. If I'm off on this someone please check that.
Thank you so much for your review man, i'm as well looking for this equipment (as a total noob for this...) and i was looking for a sincere and easy to understand explanation if this thing is really working with rubber duckie antenna and stuff. So far this is the best sincere easy to catch review for me. I'm looking for an easy to use CB radio for emergency or black-out situation purposes, so seems like a great deal form me!
18:45 mark is fucking classic!!! I have owned these for two years and have never hooked these up. I own a Black Nissan Titan XD Pro 4X that I will hook it up to & your video was inspirational.
Freaking awesome video. This is the cb I am getting for my jeep tj. For 4 wheeling. I will use it mostly in jeep but like it to be portable on the trails
Get a Wilson 1000 or 5000 good Antanas or tuckers or any kind of rate antenna just those antennas you can buy at Walmart does not very good they don’t have a good grounds to him
Ok... after 12 minutes of you speaking in Circles about what people did and didn't have or other NON-radio "review" comments... you are a newb and your title is bogus...

That's a pl-259 connector. It connects to the female so-239. Also, you can buy a BNC to so239 adapter for about 10 dollars.

Adolfo, I've had mine for two months now and I love it. Good luck! Enjoy the hobby.
Great video Joe thank you. I have this radio and I purchased a 3 foot telescopic antenna for it that works great when walking around with it.
Great video

Thanks for teaching us what you learned. Did you ever get the adapter for the swr?
My antenna alone costs more than that whole setup. 😂 Welcome to the game!
Nice honest review bro👍🏻 new subscriber here anyway.

"He didn't seem all that chatty." That's going to be my new polite way of saying someone's a grumpy a-hole. 14:00
back in my day I had a real C B with a 75 watt buster not some hand held.
Back in your day the hand held versions were two rocks and a string.
