100% agree. But Sony doesn't really need to make a new version. The RX1R II is a big upgrade over the one you have (resolution, focus and speed) and after owning mine for 4 years (picked up a mint used copy for $1900), it is still one of my favorite cameras for everyday use. Set the image size to 1:1 and use the articulating screen facing up and you basically have a compact hasselblad experience that is even better than the 907x, since that one doesn't shoot square ;-) Carry lots of batteries and think of them like film which you need to change every couple hundred shots. You make beautiful images. Subscribed. Thanks.
as a former camera store sales lead i loved everything about this camera because i understood it but ihated how hard it was to sell it to anyone who didnt understand it but needed it cus those were the people who had the money to get it.
Try the Leica Q2, I switched to it from the RX1 and never looked back. I wish Sony will release Mark 3 of this camera because it is smaller than the Q2 . I had the RX1 and the RX1 MK2, the MK2 had a better resolution 42MP and built in EVF. I missed the built in flash of RX1 when I made this upgrade to RX1 MK2. My issues with RX1 cameras: the battery (very small) you need to carry many of them for a day of shooting. Autofocus is bad. No more updates from Sony. Video is only 1080p.
Your photography always really gets me lost in it. I don't understand how you create a frame with composition, colour and subject that is always exactly certain to put me in the frame of mind... It's seriously an incredible body of work.
I am mesmerized by every single one of your videos. Absolutely, mesmerized. The pacing, tone, and effort put into your work is inspiring. Also, I love the Cyberpunk vibe!
you can sorta pull this off just by getting a a7c + 35mm f2, it's even in a smaller factor. (though lower res for now, but a7c2 would come with higher res)
I had a quick check. In Australia the RX1 is going to set you back $5400. For that kind of cash I would rather get a Sony A7iii with a lens. During Black Friday these were going for $1600 body only.
I just let go of my RX1r2 because the GRIII proved to be the one I lifted to take the shot when I ran with both last year-giving up very little. I have no regrets letting go of the RX1r2. That being said, I'm having a hard time letting go of my og RX1 that I picked up in 2012. It defined a decade of my work, and that lens, while not the last word in sharpness or evenness, has a look that is hard to replace. Great video and storytelling, as always. 👍

@@inquisitvem6723 sorry, what I mean is that I am jealous of the rx1rii focusing. I've never seen one under 2k, looks like you got an insane deal! I'll keep hoping for the rx1riii, compact full frames are awesome
I agree the RX1r is great camera although it is pretty dated as you stated. The current smallest full frame Sony is the A7C and I pair it with the Zeiss Sonnar 35mm for Sony. When I go on trips or Vacations it is what I take with me and get pretty amazing results. No it is not as small as the RX1r but The Color Science, AF System and all the other advance features makes it the best bang for the buck.
I've been shooting with an RX1 for 8 years. I've tried many other cameras but nothing has convinced me to replace it. Its definitely not perfect, but I've taken so many memorable photos with it, that it's pretty hard for me to let go of it at this point.
@@FifaInspected on the mk1 the autofocus is really slow. The mk2 is much better, but it's still slow by modern standards. The battery life is pretty bad as well, especially on the mk2, you definitely have to carry around multiple batteries. Also the SD card read/write time is extremely slow on the RX1R versions due to the high resolution sensor. I regularly run into an issue where I cannot review the images for a few seconds after I've taken the picture if I snap a few pics in succession, even with a fast SD card. Part of it might be due to me shooting RAW+JPG. For the mk2 they slightly altered the body and made it ever so slightly thicker. For whatever reason it being thicker made it a bit harder for me to hold (my hands are on the larger side). Fotodiox sells a small grip for this camera that's makes it much easier to hold. Despite all these issues, the image quality is just so unbelievably good. I've had other Sony cameras, but something about this camera + lens combo and the way Sony has tuned it results in such stunning images.

I remember when this came out. I love the tiny design! But I was kind of pissed at Sony for not making it an interchangeable lens camera. I agree that fixed focal length shooting is both challenging and rewarding and provides more satisfying results, however I do think you should be able to switch lenses. After many years of waiting I finally chose the Sigma FPL, another extremely small full frame camera with tactile dials and buttons, but you can change the lens. I def think that Sony would Destroy the market if they produced an updated, higher mp version of this camera body, but also made it so you can use the huge amount of E mount lenses on the market, or adapt vintage lenses to it.
Canon needs to hurry up and make a Fullframe QL for the same reason. They would sell out so fast, even if it was a 40f1.8. The Leica Q is still growing in popularity too. People really want compact cameras again. Personally, if anyone could make me a compact 28 with a detatchable EVF and a flip up screen rather than the swivel out one, I'd be happy. More so if it had converters like the X100 to get to 24 and 35.
Dude I love your content, love your aesthetic. But knowing you use the filter packs its really hard to get too excited about the camera because we can't tell what it raw. Could you tag a raw photo in each video so we know what is raw and what is edited?

Superb video and hauntingly good music. I love the concept of giving the usually emotionless review video a completely cinematic and dystopian look and feel. As a branding specialist I admire your courage and skill.
The Sony RX1 is a great alternative to the Leica Q/Q2 as well. I ended up finally getting a good deal on a Q a few months ago (it’s been my dream camera for years, but couldn’t justify the price); but looked a lot at the Sony RX1 for a while as an alternative.
Your video aesthetic reminds me of those moments in life you are completely immersed in your thoughts or art, and you don't care what you look like, you just look.
Can I just get some popcorn adn do a movie night with your videos? Too much? 😅 This is stunning, I don't even care about most of the cameras and lenses myself, but who cares - I'd watch even if you review a kitchen sponge, man!
You mention the X100V, but would the Leica Q exist if it wasn’t for this camera? When the RX1 was the only FF compact it was considered to be too expensive, now that the Leica Q has existed for a while, Sony should definitely update this camera and stir up the competition. Another great video GxAce! Oh ya….where’s the Zeiss ZX1!?
People just like throwing the word Masterpiece around when they see a couple gimmicks that are visually appealing. Most of his photos are okay, some of them are good but I guess he is a "filmmaker" and not a photographer. Other than that is just very gimmicky. It's dark and gloomy, it tries to represent a dystopian futurist scene yet looking like its set in the 70's or 80's. Done by so many other people and filmmakers like Neill Blomkamp. He shoots using anamorphic lenses that give the video this feel, used by cinematographers like Tarantino, its a very appealing and distinct feel but at the same time, meh. He loves rule of thirds central framing and leading lines. But when you render it all down its a robot mask, a few other gadgets, a mask that make him look like a bad Cerebro. And every single shot is panning , just pan right, pan up, pan down. As a final note you can work on your composition using a zoom lens or any lens at all, in fact, you don't even need a camera you can just use your hands.
@@GxAce That’s awesome! Great video as always, I especially liked the images this time around; the increased depth of field from an actual 35mm f/2 lens really adds to the images.

well the RX1 and its overall good impression is what pushed Sony to put focus on the Emount. I love my Rx1r and mus say any hard case fixes the fit problem for me, the camera is light enough for the simle rubber to be usable but the added height and grip the 1st party leather case give make it very comfortable to hold, also it barely add any bulk to the camera. just got the EV1Mk myself and must say the 90 degree hinge is so fun indeed. ive been using the oVF 1M myself and must say that one is much inferior, the lens are actually a tad wider than 35mm thus making the exacly 35 oVF narrower bu it also doesnt give any center marking nor any Focus indicator, the only thing it have is the border lines which kinda change color to match whats exactly in the centre of the lens. not to mention the off centre placement of the VF its overall a more unreliable representation of what you'll get, just fussy. it sure look beautiful looking through it tho.
U make me.interested and excited for every single camera that u feature in your channel. Only downside I go to ebay and boom . Expensive 😂 your channel is great!!
i use mine in cropped 16:9 20mp mode, which is tighter then the 3:2 24mp mode but turn off all corrections/lens/chroma and the 35mm lens becomes a 32mm!! extra-fine jpg only ;)
Sony cameras are so good but the menus are so frustrating, especially back in RX1 generation. I love the photos, but feel like I’m getting in a fight with every photo
Is this the only way to get a 35mm f2 Sonnar? I know there's the Distagon (which is one of my favorite lenses) and the Contax G 35 f2 Planar, and a 35 Sonnar 2.8, but I can't find a standalone 35 f2 Sonnar.
Sold my FF and switched to Fuji. Love the size and image quality is on par. For video something like pocket 3 makes more sense. Good combo. If sony makes rx1r mark iii i’d sell all my gear and go back to Sony.
I'm preaching this for years. Even if I don't like the built quality and ergonomics of Sony, we need a small Full frame fixed lens camera to compete with Leica. Built in EVF, tilt screen...and if you can put a true 28mm f2 on it.. not like the fake 28mm of Leica
it has to be said, it's not the camera, any camera.. it's all YOU. I bet you could make these epic images with shoebox. great talent and another awesome vid.
Those photos are fantastic, love the super wide look when viewing on youtube's Theater mode. They have a film-like quality to them too, despite being an older digital camera, I'd definitely say these images will always look amazing and timeless.
Coming from an RX1R II, I have to agree with most said here. I have an A7S III with quite a few lens options but if I had to choose one camera it would be the RX1R II. For someone just getting into photos and videos though the RX10 IV is another stand out king of an "All-rounder" that despite being 6+ years old dominates. Sony in General has some truly amazing stand out cameras in so many segments.

You are simply in a different league... MInd-blowing production!
Knock knock where you at man? We need more vids
Amazing on all things as usual. Sound design, visuals and narrative. But yeah.. STOP. DRIVING. PRICES. UP!
I haven't commented on anything for about 5 years... Your content is exceptional! Totally off the wall - but exceptional! Thanks!
Got eeem
3:22 my eyes are definitely playing tricks on me but if I didn’t know any better, I’d say that’s Caleb from Bad Flashes!
Your eyes are not playing tricks on you :). I did an event with him in NYC last month!
@@GxAce That’s awesome! Great video as always, I especially liked the images this time around; the increased depth of field from an actual 35mm f/2 lens really adds to the images.
Great !! 👍
Have you tried the Sigma FP / FPL ? Smallest current full frame I'm aware of. Of course it doesn't come with a fixed Zeiss.
Dude I'm gonna go bankrupt with all the things I want to buy from seeing it in your channel. But don't stop please. This content is the best I've seen for a long time. Keep it up! Wish I could film like you, what a dream.
Right? I went straight to checking camera listings online to check how much these were going for lol. So good though!
@@NunoAlmeidaPhotography Dont get fooled, you can take these shots with an iphone 7
I don't know who you are or what this is but Goddamn!
I've talked to every single Sony Alpha person I can about them needing to make a new model. Hopefully Tokyo listens ✍🏼
Also subbed that Patreon. Love your work.
Your videos are a VIBE, dude. You've got a great eye (and ear) for dystopia.
That song at 8:55 reminds me so much of Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack...
I like how you actually have the correct canvas aspect ratio on your video.
Big Up 🆙
Fuji x100v 23mm lens because of the sensor crop is close to 35mm, isn’t it?
Yep
This was my thought, DOF difference, but nearly the same field of view.
Hands down the best content on RUclips atm. A true master of your craft, perfect execution, and aesthetic second to none. A true film maker and story teller. Every one else on the platform should be taking notes.
Thank you! I was waiting for this one! One of my all time favourite cameras! Brilliant video as always!
well the RX1 and its overall good impression is what pushed Sony to put focus on the Emount.
Not only would Sony destroy X100V sales, it would also take a meaningful chunk of Leica Q2 sales. Such a missed opportunity.
Your storytelling is so good I even watched this video about a Sony camera with their trash color science. Lol
Yeah the colors in this video are shit ;). Thanks for watching ;)
Watching this on my Xperia 1 ii. Got the full advantage of 21:9 4K screen with this amazing video🔥
U make me.interested and excited for every single camera that u feature in your channel. Only downside I go to ebay and boom . Expensive 😂 your channel is great!!
I played with a RX1 mark 2 at bh. It was fun. Just out of my price range, its silly expensive.
Another masterpiece. Please never stop making videos. Thanks.
Damn it. I've been waiting for the prices to get lower and now it is going to see a significant spike. 🤣
As usual, you make masterpieces.
Wow the video was perfect, music, visuals, everything. Until the full frame BS started...
hahahah
@GxAce I stil love your videos and photos haha 💜
i use mine in cropped 16:9 20mp mode, which is tighter then the 3:2 24mp mode but turn off all corrections/lens/chroma and the 35mm lens becomes a 32mm!! extra-fine jpg only ;)
Sony cameras are so good but the menus are so frustrating, especially back in RX1 generation.
It doesn't matter how many times Sony releases something great (like the minidisc), they'll eventually pull the plug on it.
it has to be said, it's not the camera, any camera.. it's all YOU.
I hate this guy he hypes every camera i love

Coming from an RX1R II, I have to agree with most said here. I have an A7S III with quite a few lens options but if I had to choose one camera it would be the RX1R II. For someone just getting into photos and videos though the RX10 IV is another stand out king of an "All-rounder" that despite being 6+ years old dominates. Sony in General has some truly amazing stand out cameras in so many segments.
is the electronic viewfinder for the RX1 a worthy Upgrade? I own the RX1 and hate the built in WF..
Dude the 7Artisans 35mm f2 you reviewed early on was 35mm Sonnar design.
But yeah this lens on the RX1 fucking slaps.
id love to see a video on the sony a5000 a surprising little bit of pocket power
LMAO, dude, can you send me the camera names before posting your videos. you drove the price up
Can you make a playlist of all the music you put in your vids on music bed??
