    The 55-250 is an EFS lens, that is why it won't mount on Sigma adapter, which is solely made for Canon EF lenses. But independent lenses sometimes work

    I have the Metabones III and it worked, sort of, but then I bought Sigma MC11 and things really changed. Great adapter. It should function best with Sigma lenses, but my Canon 70-200 f/4.0 works superfast. The 24-105 is also great with this adapter. Single focus is perfect, but the AF-C is not keeping up all the time. Doesn't bother me. Thanks for another great video!

    This is really helpful! I want a good adapter but don't want to invest in new lens yet. Already got a Commlite for my Canon 28mm but perform poorly, and now certainly going to have a go at Sigma MC-11!

    Just a heads up for anybody wondering...
    If you want to use EF-S lenses with any adapter you'll need to remove the rubber section from the mount of the lens and it'll mount on the adapter just fine

    Nice video Jeff. On the contrary though, the Tokina 11-16 DX V1 works fine here on my A6000 with the MC11 adapter. Well, the AF is a tad slow but it surely works! It even detects faces and tracks/locks on objects properly!

    Dear Jeff Ello your video about the e-mount adapters is very helpful. It really opened my eyes. You have a very interesting RUclips channel. I would like to ask you about the Canon 24mm f/2.8 IS USM you have tested with the Commlite adapter. Does it support the Image Stabilization in practice? Have you tested that? Does the stabilization has the same efficiency with Commlite adapter?
    Best Regards
    Achileas Labrou.

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  8 лет назад

      Yes, the stabilization works just as well on the a6300 as on my old 60D. The stabilizer on the 70-300 also works well.

    Good test, subscribed! Been doing video work with the commlite (A7s to canon 24-105 f4) and have been fairly happy. Never used it photography wise cause it's slow so might look into the sigma adapter to be able to do both video and photo better... However for manual focusing video work the commlite has been good value for the money.

    Quite a few Sigma lenses will not work with the MC-11 either. I tried to use a Standard 17-70 f2.8-4 and it almost autofocused but not quite. When I tried to shoot in bracket mode the camera stopped responding. I think because the lens defaulted to wide open apeture and only stopped down as the picture was being shot. I replaced that lens with a new Contemporary 17-70 and have had no problems other than fairly slow AF.

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  4 года назад

      Good catch...I never noticed that. While the lens functions, and might lock on, the experience is exceptionally bad for normal use. So I would qualify it as "might work in some cases, but it's a poor experience all around.".

    Such a pity that sigma mc11 doesn't do tracking in photo or af-c in video for canon glass. I hope they do roll out a firmware that will enable at least af-c video. I can workaround with wide af-c for tracking subjects.

    How did you get your camera not to go into usb mode when the micro usb charger is plugged in? My a6000 won't let me charge if the camera is turned on

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  8 лет назад

      If the camera is on, the internal battery will not charge - that is true. When running on USB power, the a6300 will use 4.35 Watts of power from USB and draw the rest of what it needs (averaging about 6.5 Watts total in 4k video mode) from the internal battery. I have a video about power and heat coming shortly.

    btw what autofocus mode did you use? is it contrast detection or phase detection?

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  8 лет назад

      The limitations vary by lens... some work better than others and it's sometimes hard to tell which modes the camera is running in. I suspect with the 70-300 it is doing contrast. I haven't used the 50 as much as I thought I would since moving to the 6300... thinking of getting rid of it.

    found the commlite to focus very quickly with canon lenses however never 100% accurate as in it will lock on but its not perfectly in focus. Anyone else experienced this? Metabones speedbooster works well but heavy vignetting, perfect for super35mm filming though (AF doesnt work properly for filming though).

    can anyone confirm that this adapter does not accept aps-lenses (af), or is this just a ef-s or maybe even canon ef-s/ 55-250 thing?

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  7 лет назад

      izoyt the adapter does not work with ef-s mount lenses. there is a subtle difference between the EF and EF-s mounts (which I did not realize when shooting this vid), so lenses that use the EF-s mount will not seat on the adapter. there are some aps-c lenses that use the EF mount instead of EF-s... and those should seat properly.

    does adapting canon lenses with the mc-11 give soft corners??

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  8 лет назад

      There is no glass in the mc11 to distort the image, so no, image quality is not effected by adapting

  • @peteralfoldi9821

    Hi, you did not mount the 11-16 correctly on the MC11.. notice the yellow mark is not in line with white mark on adaptor... no wonder it did not work :)

      @proritsatel 8 лет назад

      Yep!

    • @MarioCastillion
      @MarioCastillion 7 лет назад

      You are wrong!
      The yellow line is not supposed to be in line with the white mark on the adapter. The yellow line is for the distance (11 to 16mm) measurement on the lens.
      As long as you hear the click when turning, the lens is installed correctly.

    • @proritsatel
      @proritsatel 7 лет назад +1

      I have the Tokina 11-16mm ATX Pro II - works great! The yellow line is in the middle and in line with the white mark on the adapter. In the video еhe lens is attached incorrectly.

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  7 лет назад +2

      Александр Кавун correct. at the time this video was made, I didn't realize the subtle difference between EF and EF-s mounts. I had mark I version of the 11-16, which had the EF-s mount. the 11-16 mark II, however, uses a normal EF mount despite being a crop lens. So yes, I was dumb at the time. I am slightly less dumb now. :)

      @MarioCastillion 7 лет назад

      Hmmm....okay. My mistake, then.

    so what about the metabones speedbooster? it's better?

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  8 лет назад

      The only difference between the speedbooster and the non-speedbooseter versions of the metabones adapter is that the speedbooster has an optic that acts as a focal reducer. The non-speedbooster has no optics. The supported lenses, i believe, are the same between the two metabones versions. The commlite, metabones and MC-11 all work better/worse with different sets of lenses... so whether one is better or worse is based largely on the lenses you own. You cannot, for example, use any EF-S mount lenses on the MC-11, but you can on the commlite and metabones adapters. For me, and my lenses, the MC-11 allows my lenses to focus faster, and supports more AF modes than either of the other adapters.
