Sony/Canon Adapter Review: Sigma MC-11, Metabones Mk IV, Commlite

- I compare three Canon lens to Sony body adapters, at various prices. If you have an a6300 or a7R II, the Metabones Mk IV gives you the best performance. With other cameras, the Sigma MC-11 performs similar. The Commlite is cheapest, but autofocus is REALLY slow.

hey canon, how about you just build a competitive camera and we wouldn't have to go through all this
all the wishes in the world...plz canon
Too late. Sold all my canon gear
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
AMEN
thats too easy!!!!!
I work daily with my A7 mark1 using the commlite adapter. I do architectural photography... i don´t get any distortion or worse image quality differences between my 5Dmk2 and the A7, I even can say that the a7 outperforms the 5Dmk2 with the same (mount adapted) lenses. The glasses i use are the UWA 12-24mm mark2 from Sigma and the 24-70mm 2.8L mk1 zoom from Canon. The lenses perform perfectly fine and the focus is ok, of couse slower than the same lenses on the native canon body, but for my subject i just use MF. Other lenses like the EF 40mm 2.8 or the EF 50mm 1.4 focus just fine wide opened. Hope this comment to be helpful. Thats just my experience :) I almost forgot to mention that i´ve been using the adaptor since February, in the a6000 and the a7. Cheers From Argentina!
Tony, take a look at your inserted comments, you mention the A7Rii twice and the statements conflict with each other. I own both the adapters, and also the Sigma 24-105 F4. The Metabones using phase detect is definitely the best - that said, at least with the A7Rii, the MC-11 using most Canon glass works almost as good as you pointed out - and it has a nice tight fit that prevents my heavier lenses from constantly losing their connection - and as pointed out, it doesn't work well in Contrast Detect mode with the very Sigma Lenses it was suppose to work with which sucks.
Does the aperture control work on either of these? I purchased a cheaper alternative, works great, when I switch f stops i notice the lens doesn't adjust but rather just gets darker. I'm looking at the commlite or mc11
Sony how about the LA-EA3 adapter and sigma lenses made for the Sony A mount. I'd be curious about those results.
As Tony is always trying to help the buyer I would like to see the new Sony 70-300G fe vs the laea3 and A mount 70-300G as you can pick one of those up pretty cheap now.
True, but according to Tony, the EYE EF on the others are junk anyway.
I think you reversed the statement at 7:15 3rd sentence. Nice video btw
if you have an a6300 or a7R II get the metabones IV
Came here to say this. Thanks :)
Same here ;)
Clarification unsuccessful. Helpful video nonetheless.
I saw this too ;)
Hi Tony. I know that you are a big fan of the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. I have updated the firmware on the lens that came out in April and updated the MC-11 as you discussed. I have NOT tested it in low light, but in everyday use, it works great on the A6000 "Old tech AF system"!. Given that LOTS of people have the A6000 (biggest mirrorless seller ever), it might be worth mentioning this. No problem through the range even up to f11. On the A6000, Eye AF works, but as always, must be assigned to a custom button. One other thing worth mentioning that I've seen elsewhere is that some users have seen improvements by disabling 'Pre AF' in the camera menu. I never have this on anyway.
Like Zarif mentioned, the clarification is contradictory, but thank you anyway for pointing out that the MC-11 isn't as fast as the Metabones on many Sony bodies. My experience with the MC-11 Sigma adapter hasn't been nearly as positive as the Metabones for stills. The Metabones is immensely faster at locking on in mid to low light AF-S, particularly on any focus mode but 'Wide'. I see a lot of praise for the Sigma and I do like the price point, but I've waited several months and many firmware updates and for still photographers I've found the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 and 50-100mm f1.8 to both perform significantly faster in AF-S for stills with the Metabones adapter than with Sigma's own MC-11. Odd that Metabones works better than the Sigma adapter with Sigma's own lenses. Now that the Metabones has an 'advanced mode' to support eye AF, DMF etc, I don't see much benefit to the Sigma unless you can't afford the Metabones and are fine with the speed hit. Interestingly enough, when in 'advanced mode' on the Metabones I get AF stills performance similar to the Sigma (feels like contrast-based AF). These comments are based on testing done with an A7Rii, a6300 and a6500 and the MC-11 with Sigma 18-35 f1.8, 50-100 f 1.8 and the Metabones E to FE IV with the latest firmware available on all devices in December 2016.
Hi, great review. I have a few questions. I am coming from a Canon 70D (its a cropped sensor camera). I really would like to go full frame as cheap as possible. I am thinking about buying the Sony A7. Also a lens adapter to use with my Sigma, Canon and one Rokinon (Fish eye) 8mm manual lens. All my lenses are not the most pricy..but they worked well with my Canon 70D. My lenses are as follows: Rokinon 8mm manual focus lens, Canon 50mm macro lens, Canon "Nifty Fifty" 50mm lens, Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens, and Sigma 18-200mm lens. What would be your suggestion for me to make the switch to full frame easily and using the most of my existing lenses? Would the Sony A7 be a good choice for me? I do mostly landscapes, some small set studio photos (water drop/splash photos), scenic photos..and also panorama photos where I use a tripod and rotate the camera 5 degrees for each frame until I achieve a 180 degree coverage. Then later I stitch the photos together using Photoshop's image stitch feature to make the panorama. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks :-)
The sound on this is so pure it freaked me out! Hehe
I use a Commlite adapter that I have had since my NEX-6 days, and have stepped up to Canon L glass with Canon 17-40 f/4L and 24-70 f/4L lenses on A7ii . Using either AF-S and AF-C are both instantaneous and accurate. Af hunts a bit with the 70-200 f/4L lens but once it knows the range, it locks on and tracks well, especially AF-C with continuous shooting. AF is slower with non-L Canon lenses and those without the latest USM motors. I may have an earlier version of the Commlite adapter - it is totally blacked out inside and I get none of the IQ loss at the edge due to internal reflections you describe.
-tony simply u r the best photography youtuber,i dont know why why!, may be u r a hard worker may be because u like your work
i already had about one year following you over youtube (btw: i start photography from only 2 years) u r the best and most decent
keep the good work:)
Honestly... Thank you for this video, for someone whos in the market for a7r this is the best timing for the video!
Hi Tony, nice video. I have a Sony A7III and want to use Canon 50mm EF 1:1.4 USM lens with it. Which adapter do you suggest will work best? It's getting very confusing as to which adapter works ok!!
Regarding your disclaimer at 6:17:
This actually depends on the A7II firmware update.
Advanced will be superior on non-updated bodies.
Green will be superior on bodies that have the November 2015 firmware update that added the A7RII's legacy-adapter PDAF improvements to the A7II.
7:15: the clarification text is confusing. A7RII is in both lists and the conclusion reads as it was meant the other way. (would make sense if there isn't the "don't" in the 3rd paragraph)
Thank you for the video, Tony, it answers a lot of open questions!!
Hi Tony, as a new owner of the A7iii I would like to know if the situation as changed since 2016, I do like sigma art lenses a lot and unfortunately they didn't release zoom lenses yet for sony. Do you think it make sense to buy the mc-11 in this case? what about the metabones mark V did you try it? thanks for your channel it's a great help for newbie like me ;-)
what is a good beginner camera and lens? I want to shoot mostly portraits, landscape, slower moving wildlife ( like a still cow, horse, buffalo...) and domestic animals. thanks so much for the information you provide.
How about Nikon AF or AF S lenses to Sony mirrorless cameras? Are there any adaptors that work with the electronics or even manually?
My guess is that you are currently working with the new, unreleased, Sony 7CII. Will it challenge the new Z8 at a cheaper price? I am anxious to watch your review.
Fortunately Zeiss and Voigtlander have released a range of native FE primes in wide and ultra wide focal lengths which avoid the colour shifts and corner smearing often seen on adapted lenses. The new Zeiss FE 18mm in particular looks to be a killer lens, but at a premium price. In the end it's always interesting to see what happens when you hook up adapted lenses and there have been some very successful combinations.
Happy belated 4th of July Tony, Chelsea and crew :)
thank you so much for this video. very informative. i have been researching for such a long time about this and i couldn't get and indefinite choice of purchasing for adapters. I just got the a6300 but decided to stick to buying canon lenses. but after this review I realize... Just stick to getting them sigma, or sony emount lenses for the benefits of the processor of the camera to function much better than of having a headache on problems that delay the process. thanks so much!!
Great review! Please include a Techart adaptor in your next review! This particular adaptor apparently allows many manual focusing lenses to autofocus and performs pretty well according to my own experience.
The green mode works better on my A7 ii than the native mode. I honestly liked version .49 better! Thanks for the video Tony
Tony, thanks for the video. After 5 years, as you know, sony is the lader in mirrorless and canon the eader in lenses, a lot has changed in 5 years. Can you do an update video ?
It seems that these adapters are slow in low light. Thanks for the comparison.
Tony, can you please move the cable behind the TV out of site? It's killing me! Love your videos.
I really appreciate these kinds of reviews. Can you have a look at the clarification at 7:16? Don't you mean that if you DO have an a6300 or a7RII get the metabones? I read it several times and the conclusion doesn't seem to follow.
Have you compared the performance of each on the A7rii vs the A6300 or 6500?
Thanks for the detailed review! It was very clarifying, i could finally make my mind! You've done a great research.
Sigma MC11's firmware also includes unique lens correction data for those supported Sigma lenses, compatible with Sony's built-in "Lens Compensation" menu features like chromatic aberration and distortion auto-correction, enabling it to work for those Sigma lenses too, rather than just native Sony lenses only. That's a big advantage for Sigma's adapter! I don't think Metabones (or Commlite) include any lens correction data facilities. They rely on you manually correcting everything afterwards in Lightroom.
I've used the a7ii with the metabones and canon 300 2.8 and it work as well as my a7rii as it also has phase detection autofocus with firmware 0.49. I also tested the new metabones firmware and a7rii with canon 40mm stm whilst recording in video using the new native mode and it focused in wide mode on its own fine, I only did a 30 second, did you test the new native mode with video AF? Or where you in green mode. Nice vid as always.
im so confused with these adapters. i feel like half the peoples say they are awesome and half say they suck...
+Jesse H yep, its called an opinion!
+Jesse H what I would say is never expect them to be as good as using native glass as they are not, point to point depending on the lens they work well depending on the lens. You will not be able to track anything with using these adapters. I've only tried the metabones but from what I've seen from the others like Tony says it's the best. Don't forget you are using canon lenses on a Sony body and if you don't expect to much you will be quite suprised as it can be very usable for certain situations.
+David Huxley thanks David. i appreciate the response.
Do you ever have issues/concerns about your a7rii's weather resistance? Or issues with the sensor getting very dirty quickly and supposedly having to send it to Sony to have it clean so as to not void the warranty? Thanks -Mike
Hi Tony, great video. But in the video @ 7:12 you stated "if you don't have the Sony A6300 or A7Rll, get the Metabones". Didn't you mean if you DO have them?
Right, the metabones is best for the a6300 & a7R II.
commlite ISO100 vs MC-11 ISO6400?? no fair play
Hi Tony.... I know this video is probably out of date by now but could you tell me how the lens adapters deal with a Tamron lens with an canon mount. I'm hoping to get an A7iii (I currently shoot a Canon 70d) but the main lens I use is a Tamron 24-70mm... will the sigma adapter work or will i have to go metabones? If it helps I mainly do portrait work..... thanks in advance
The performance is a function of what lens you use. That is the caveat with all adapters. People should stop making the blanket statement that an adapter is 'bad' or 'good'. It depends of how well it supports the lens you choose to use. Some adapter even have a list of lenses with which they are known to perform well. I use the Commlite. It does not hunt. And it doesn't have issues with low light with the lenses I use. It works beautifully with both my Canon 24-105 4L and Canon 24-70 2.8L. The Commlite is also one of the few adapters that will actually focus the Canon 85mm 1.2L, not quickly but it's reliable. Almost no other adapter works with that lens, including the Metabones. I also use a Viltrox which works beautifully as well, blazingly fast with my Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art. The Viltrox will NOT even communicate with the 85mm 1.2L. It DEPENDS on the LENS, the performance you get.
Do you think the focusing will improve on the metabones adaptor vs the commlite on the A7S II ? Because I have the commlite and the auto focus barely works. Will the results be the same or do you think I will see a improvement?
Tony, in your tests of superwides on the metabones do you have the revised adapter with the felt internals or the original with the plastic internals? Sorry, I don't have the product numbers, but I recall metabones redid the adapter internals to reduce internal reflections. Thanks!
Have you reviewed (or re-reviewed) the Metabones Speed Booster for Sony APS-C (specifically the a6300)? Crazy expensive, but the extra 1 stop of exposure, full frame image and added bokeh might make it worthwhile.
My mc-11 doesn't hunt unless in low light situations which my kit lens couldn't either. I have an a6000 and A6300. 18-35mm and 50-100mm. Also video AF is more then exceptional.
Great video but how about Nikon lenses onto Canon bodies, any ideas?
Thanks! Excellent excellent video. Want to buy a Sony camera because i am convinced with the camera performance. Still changed my mind because I am disappointed by the non-availability of any affordable + marvelous performing lense. Good ones are way too much above the budget!
Tony sir , i think for a professional its better to buy sony gmaster lens or stick to cannon or nikkom system .focusing seriously slow on all adapters. just my opinion.
Tony, love your show!
Question,,, @ :42 did you say "R" or "Art" in regard to Sigma lenses??
Any chance you tried the fotodiox adapters after this review? any thoughts compared to metabones'
? (for a6300 in particular)
Any advice would be a huge help! What are the main differences between a Metabones mark 4 and 5? I've got an A7S with Canon lenses. Thanks!
What was the issue with a7ii using Metabones relative to a6300? The only difference I see in green mode is the AF area coverage. A7ii feels more like cheap DSLR like 6d or d610. A6300 has across the frame coverage with AF zones.
Comolite works great, but only with the Canon lenses listed on Commlite's website
great video! I appreciate the information. I am switching from the canon 70d to the sony a6500. my top lenses I use the most is the rokinon 50mm T1.5 ef and sigma 17-35 ef. Are there any suggestions for the right adapter to use these lenses on the a6500? thanks
Hello Sir...
Wish you a very Happy New Year.
I am the regular watcher of your videos.
Seeking your help on- " I have canon 75-300mm,which I have used obviously in canon body. But recently I have bough a Sony a58.So please help me,which mount I can use to use the canon 75-300mm in Sony a58.
I will be greatful,if you will response my querry.
I appreciate your videos, and have your book :). Could you tell me currently what is the best adapter for Canon lenses to be used on the a7iii? I do lots of landscape and shoot with the canon 14mm and 16-35 and also Tamron 24-70.
Thank you Tony. I would love to know your opinion on something. In your review when you compare the sony 24-70 vs the canon 24-70 the difference doesn't seem to be as much. Results are very comparable. I bought the sony 24-70 g master and sharpness seems great as well. How come DXO scores say the sharpness of this lens is half of the canon's sharpness. According to DXO even the 5DIII with 24-70 is sharper the a7r with 24-70 G master. I would love to know your input, thanks again.
Hi and thanks for all the great content.
Could you please do an updated / new comparison including the newly released A73 ?
I'm guessing behind the impressive sales numbers there are a lot of people like me buying the new body to migrate from Canon, and we would really appreciate accurate info for budgeting correctly...
That would be really helpful to a lot of people !
Anyway, thanks again and keep 'em coming.
Cheers from France
With Viltrox IV so much changed with firmware 1.9. it became so much better.
Hi Tony, I have one simple question. i want to use Canon lenses for specifically "Videography purposes" on Sony A7R ii body. which adapter should i go for. Please advice. Consider it as my SOS !!
can you please do a test with the new A73 with the sigma adapter and canon lenses? I think for people on a budget would love that.
Tony, regarding the distortion on the superwide lens, have you tested the slightly updated metabones mark iv with the anti reflective coating?
They changed the model from MB_EF-E-BM4 to MB_EF-E-BT4
If you are planning to buy commlite, keep in mind that it has trouble communicating with Tokina 11-16 when it is in autofocus mode on lens. Even aperture doesn't work if the AF/MF ring is in AF mode. (Works fine when it is in MF mode) Canon 24-105mm / 40mm works, but very unreliable focus (gets stuck at weird point and thinks it is in focus) and if you have Nikon 50mm with Nikon -> Canon adapter, it has huge glitches with my Sony 5N and it does not work at all. (It just goes back and forth from no-aperture detect to f/90 and no-aperture again)
can we get an update for 2019?
Tony can you please make a video using the sony a6300 and sigma MC-11 adapter and metabones adapter using the canon 400 2.8 and tamron 70-200mm 2.8 please, I'll be very greatful..
Why on some adapters 7 pins, and on the other 8?
Thank you so much Tony, Very informative!
Hi! Can you answer me a question? Hello. I bought a Milvus 50m f / 2 lens and I would like to know if the sigma adapter can approach the DMF object with focus peaking. Thanks!
On my Sony A7II, with the newer comlite I can get the autofocus to work kinda properly. I find out that STM lenses work best, 40mm and new 50mm were alright, sigma 35mm did also, canon 85mm 1,8 doesn't work at all, 70-200 f4 kinda works. Tamron 24-70 was kinda bad as specially at 24mm and well the autofocus is just not existing in lowlight, the subjects just need to have a lot of contrast.
So "Metabones only works better on a6300 in green mode" but you also said "so if you don't have an a6300 or a7R II, get the Metabones"(7:17) So... should I get Metabones if I have an a6300? or the cheaper Sigma MC-11?
Hey !
Would you review the new adapters that are now available ?
I mean the Viltrox EF-NEX IV and Aputure Vari-ND
It's wonderful how Sony have gotten with these companies to make those adapters allowing their customers to be able to use various lenses, but there is a downside to these adapters. Thanks for sharing some light on this Tony. In my humble opinion, if you are a serious photographer, you would be better off just to buy a Canon body and use Canon lenses. I see to many issues arising from those adapters, but to each's own. I know many people have invested money in the Sony mirrorless cameras and love the fact that they can use Canon lenses. It opens up many possibilities from that perspective, but also brings along some disadvantages.
Did you update a7II to latest firmware? I use a7II with Metabones and the PDAF in green mode is quite good.
It's been discussed before but I believe the current consensus regarding poor non native lens performance on the Sony bodies has to do with the micro lens array. Since mirrorless has a much shorter flange distance light coming out of the back of native E mount lenses hits the corners of the sensor at much shallower angles vs SLRs. Its assumed that the Sony sensors have been differentially structured in a radial pattern to compensate for this at the pixel level. (Although it's probably more likely to be done with some form of in body lens correction). This effect would be exaggerated with wide angle lenses due to the wider internal refraction angles which is consistent with your testing. Either way the corners of Sony sensors are setup to react to light differently than the center either physically or electronically resulting in the loss of contrast and resolution that you've noted. Telephoto zooms like the 70-200 probably wouldn't suffer from this effect as much if at all.
okay confused. I have a 6300 and MC-11 and sigma 18-35. Only going to buy sigma glass. I am confused if you are saying the metabones is better then the MC-11 on the a6300.
So far the MC-11 been working pretty great about 95% of the time but if the metabones is better i maybe grab one if it's worth the upgrade
I agree is confusing, the text says the Metabones is better on a6300 but then tells you to buy the metabones if you don't have the a6300???
Lol, right. If you only use Sigma glass then just stick with the MC11, especially if it already works well for you.
The reason why the lens distortions are more visible on the Sony images is that Canon has some calibration data in their RAW files. They camera detects the lens and stores the info in the file itself, Hasselblad does a similar thing. That's the only reason why distortions are less visible with Canon and more pronounced (meaning closer to reality) on the Sony.
A glassless adapter can't introduce distortions - or as we've seen here chromatic aberration - if there are internal reflections that would create a haze, flares and in some situations ghosting on the images.
Well, what's your source for this?
"A glassless adapter can't introduce distortions" -> Then why would the distortions be different when I use the different adapters on the Sony camera? Obviously if you put a piece of black plastic in the path blocking the edges of light, it's going to have an impact on the image quality. That's what's happening here.
Tony & Chelsea Northrup You mean apart from a basic knowledge of physics? ;)
No seriously, that's the only reason for what's happening here. A lot of companies improve the results of their own lens lineup by automatic post processing, mostly distortions and CA. An adapter can't create additional CA or distortions though reflections on the inside of the barrel because such reflections scatter the light too much - they are unable to affect the projected image in such a way. The only thing that they can do is introduce flare, ghosting, lower the overall contrast etc - but they can't create distortions or chromatic aberrations.
Is the Metabones Mk IV NOT a speed booster? is there a speed booster adapter available for the Sony A6300 to Canon lenses?
Tony, would you guys happen to have a EF Sigma 150-600mm (Contemporary) around for testing with a7RII? Especially testing the AF between the MC-11 and Metabones?
Thanks much for review. But there is a big quesions for me?
Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Sony Alpha + Sigma MC-11 + Sony a6500 = Does Video Autofocus is working?
Technically video autofocus works, but it won't look great.
Thanks much
Would you recommend the Metabone then? Or is there nothing to do about it?
I have Sony A7S camera, and if I want to use my Canon full frames lenses with adaptor with Sony camera, will I get full frame IMAge/Video or cropped..? and how I can get full frame images/videos with Adaptor on
Thank you for the excellent video Tony!
Good to know tony thanks I just bought the metabones mark iv and the sigma 10-20 f/3.5 for video and some stills work. I was hoping the latest update worked much better in terms of autofocus on the A6300 in video but it looks like as usual we're still a far way off from native performance
I have a Sony A6500 which i use primarily for video. Which adapter would be best with Sigma 18-35? Thanks!
I am having Sigma 17-50 f2.8 lens for canon mount
This lens is not listed in compatibility for sigma mc11 with a6000
I wish to buy the sony a6000 but dont want to ditch this sigma 17-50 f2.8.
Can u suggest if i can use it in sony a6000 or any other adapter that works
when do you think you will publish a review of the Sigma 50-100 F/1.8?
So. Tony, what was the great music you had playing in the background whenever you cut over to your house?
Hi, I'm torn between the metabones adapter and the MC-11, I can get a dent deal on online marketplaces for around £100 but I have a Sony A6000 not 6300. Do you know which would be best suited for this camera body in terms of auto focus. Note, I will be aiming to shoot sporting activities mainly football with this adapter and the lens hopefully will work with my Canon 70-300mm USM II. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi ! Thx for your test.
Did you try to use new 35/45/85mm Tamron with Sigma mc-11 ?
Any feedback of theses couples ?
I will buy my first professional camera, which You recommend , between canon 80d , canon T6S, Sony nikon A6300 or D5500?
none of those are professional LOL
All these cameras are semi-pro at best but either way, I would go for the a6300. Best camera investment I've ever made!
Check sdp.io/whichcamera (and feel free to get the updated versions of the cameras we recommend, but hopefully it will help you distinguish between those models).
Tony, can you review the Kipon Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Auto Focus Lens Adapter. Ive heard good things about this adapter. Thanks!
Did you ever tried the Vello Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Auto Lens Adapter? Is not perfect but is good for just $99
Is IS with Canon lenses and Sony cameras working with the Metabones v.52 firmware? IS isn't working with my Canon lenses, MB smart adapter or speed booster (v.50 firmware) and SONY FS5 camera. I can live without the sluggish auto focus, but I really need IS.
Have you done any comparisons of AF between the Metabones adapter and their Speedbooster? I'm thinking of getting a Sony APS-C camera and using a Speedbooster with a Sigma 24-105 f/4 lens. I'd rather Speedboost it to get wide angle back and more light. I haven't heard of any AF comparisons between the Metabones regular adapter and their Speedbooster.
Sorry, we haven't tested the speedbooster. I'm sure it's not better.
I understand that you have tested the Sigma MC-11 (Canon EF mount version) but Sigma also makes the Sigma SA mount version too. I would suggest trying that version being that its Sigma mount rather than Canon. Please Tony, try it out and let us know your feedback on that.
Thanks much, what about a6500?
Your number of subs is the same forwards as backwards. 516,615. Anyways what I'm wondering is doesn't the adapters kind of serve as an extension tube albeit unintentionally?
Patrick no because the flange distance is smaller on mirrorless bodies. So with the adapter, the distance between the lens and the focusing plane is the same as on a DSLR. That space is actually necessary to focus as intended. So there is no extension tube effect.
at 7.15 it says "if you DONT have a6300 or a7r2, get metabones" and then in description it says get the metabones if you do. Is that a typo in the video?
Tony I would still like to see how well Sony A9 and A7RII bodies (plus battery grips on both) work with super-teles - 400 or 600 or 800 and whether or not there is any loss of Af speed or function compared to using these lenses on a D5 or 1DXII -- just on the Metabones Adapter
This is definitely something we're going to test. Unfortunately, our a9 doesn't arrive until Monday...
Hi guys - thanks for the response -- It is my understanding that there is no adapter for Nikon 400/2.8E FL or 600/4.0E FL - However a Metabones adaptor will work with G-series. I'm luck to have both in E and G series; but I luv the E-series on my D5. You can see some of my output on my square space web site www.andymillerphoto.co.uk/
My understanding is that the Vello adapter works with Nikon E/FL series lenses. (briansmith.com/vello-nikon-sony-e-mount-af-lens-adapter-review/)
wi dont car about if there is vig on the corners but what the lighting look good if i bought a canon 8mm-15mm fisheye and an adapter to mount it to my sony a57
excellent video, thank you! is there a pentax 645 to sony adapter?
The Fotodiox one was ok as well, it just doesn't compare to having Sony native lenses.
Hi Tony, with regards to the loss of IQ in the corners when adapting wide angle lenses, does this become mitigated when being paired on an APSC body? Does the loss of IQ zone extend into the APSC crop area? Considering the Sigma 18-35 f1.8. Thanks!
I think APS-C lenses should be fine, but I haven't tested them specifically.
Please make a video about the new upgrade of Sigma MC11 1.06 it made it buggy now doesn't focus well with Canon lenses, after the upgrade the motor focus and stop, we need to restart the camera or switch to manual focus. what made this adapter a garbage now
Could you name the adapters which are able to be put onto Nikon full frame and non full frame camera's as I currently not long ago purchased a Nikon D5500 and want to try Sony lenses on it. So if there are any metabones adapters please could you tell us Nikon users.
Thanks
And keep up the good work.
That would not work. The reason adapters work on Sony is that the mirrorless design results in "extra" room that the adapter fills, and you still get infinity focus. Adding an adapter to Nikon so you could shoot Sony lenses is possible, but you would not get infinity focus. For that reason, I don't think anyone makes a Sony e-mount to Nikon adapter.
+Bob Peticolas Thanks Bob I shall look for adaptors that take Sony lenses if there are some I shall let you know.
