@@moongazer9581 Some levels of discipline are engrained cultural norms that most people within that culture appreciate and participate in that you would never understand in Western society and it's very different contexts and specific norms.
There was so much more to Nina Simone than that and if she is respected, revered, loved and paid homage to with PRIDE by that same daughter, then you have absolutely no need to complain on her behalf. Her daughter has agency to speak for herself.

What a beautiful voice. All her own - no comparisons please! She speaks eloquently and with so much wise words. Its a pleasure to hear her speak. Even the other women in the room had tears in their eyes when she finished.

I saw Nina's concerts from the beginning, and she would mention Lisa occasionally. It's amazing to see her now for the first time, and to hear her powerful, authoritative singing.
She has her mother's voice, talks just like Nina. Its beautiful.

Sounds odd to me the way she makes it sound like her parents had a problem with her getting into entertainment, but not the US military. ?!
mano a mano if you read a bit more on her background you ll understand more why... she actually went into the military to escape her mother who was being really harsh and a tyrant due to her pain and mental illness..she needed out.. i guess in some ways the US military offered a job to her, but singing was more Lisa's true passion and vocation hence it was dealt with more seriously..not an expert here, just making sense of it from what i read x

Oh, I read that Nina lived in an "integrated" community and was partially raised by white people. She was trained by white people in music and whites gave her money to go to Juilliard. But, we always have to talk "bleck, bleck, bleck."
you might want to do a bit more resaerch and you will find this woman has a career of her own. You are uninformed.

I don't like her daughter's wayward comments. Not to mention the laughter at the interview's end. If you can call this an interview. Nor did I care for any of her insertions about her mother's behavior in the documentary "What Happened Miss Simone." The narrative used throughout the documentary paints a very narrow picture of a much more brilliant woman. The fact that her daughter takes part incenses me. I suppose she is happy to finally be in some sort of a spotlight. Much unlike her mother I find her to be sorely lacking charm, charisma, passion and intelligence. Seems like a child still intent on playing the "blame game woe is me" card.
+wandertwins i don't know if i'd dismiss her comments as "wayward" since she is a grown woman after all. but i agree that she is a lackluster talent. she didn't inherit her mother's immense talent, and maybe that's a good thing...
Hm different times and struggles
I don’t think her comment was wayward. She just kept it real and it had nothing to do with the blame game. I’m quite sure she could’ve been wallowed for the so call attention a long time ago since she is NINA SIMONE’S daughter. A Black Woman voice her thoughts and here goes the scrutiny.
