+Robert Baker well... got you... there is an 8th amp, the Dirty Shirley itself and I a comparing the other amps with the pedal to it.... so there are 8.... now watch it!
Henning, great format for a demo. A couple of times I’ve regretted a pedal purchase because it didn’t work well with my amp, only to notice afterwards, the reviews I’d watched were made using a completely different rig. Thanks for this 👍🏼
I’ve found the level and presence to be the most important and effective controls on this pedal. The level really acts beautifully like an amp’s master volume and the presence and the presence is perfectly set to ad that perfect top end “ping” and attack. Awesome pedal!!! The most amplike of any I own. The power and range of the level control lend immensely to this.
What is your favorite overdrive pedal? Would love to know. I actually really like the DIrty Shirley I'm just not sure if I should get another one with less gain...
I run a JHS boost first A good boost will kick the next pedal up a notch Right now I'm running first the JHS boost then an 808 So either replacing the 808 w the Dirty Shirley or running after for two separate tones after the Boost Kind of SRV one way Ronnie Montrose (Marshall) the other way Delay of course after
It'd be nicer if you couls dial back the fizz. I get it on the BE-OD, but on a more classic rock oriented overdrive? IMO a little more subtlety should be an option
I own the BE-OD and know what that trim pot does. One thing it does not, though, is reducing the aggression. Which is fine; for the BE-OD. Can the DS pedal go to barely noticable distortion with a soft response? I've yet to see.
Definitely has that JTM45 kinda vibe, a little less bright than a Plexi. The BE-OD is more on par with the Plexi/JCM800 kinda sound. The switch is in a bad spot; kind of like having a tree that branches into the neighbor's yard.
That's it, buying this pedal and selling my Moog MF drive which i never got used to (way too bassy for me with no option to cut bass), been searching and comparing a lot of distortion pedal demo's, and while other pedals sound nice, after a while i listen to a Dirty Shirley demo and am blown away again, i very much like that this pedal has a full EQ, should be fun :).
Been watching your videos for a while now, but watching this I just realized you are legit one of those guitar god people. Maybe it’s the pedal. I’ll ask Dave.
So if Dave was going for as close as he could to amp this has got to be a great pedal Especially for hot rodding 6L6 tubes to a more of a Ronny Montrose type tones Very cool Could almost do a one pedal gig
@@RQ3S very cool!!! i recently went for a jhs angry charlie v3 with a mini tube screamer before it. Great combo as i can dial back in the bass and scoop the mids created by the tube screamer to exactly where i want those frequencies to be. Iver been debating weather to get a dirty shirley for a while now to! But i mean you cant go wrong with either
OK Yes Dave made an excellent pedal for lead breaks AND more Oh yeah hope your Tone King is ok My Gremlin head had power tranny issues Back for warranty repair Only 25 hour's of play but 6 or 7 months time wise SO PLAY your Tone King in case there are any issues We are similar because we have so many great amps and play them all
+Sebastian why? People bitch about RUclips compression all the time, but I really can’t complain.. I think what you are hearing is a gode representation of what I recorded.... seriously.
I agree, I've been experimenting lately with private uploads and I don't find it difficult to record and upload something to RUclips while making it sounds extremely close to what I hear with my ears in my house.
I have only metioned about it because you had pointed it out in the video. Perhaps that would have stopped some people from complaining about youtube compresion, but then most likely they would complain about downloadable audio file.
Well fuck, I only now realised that you were the guy behind Frameshift. Blast from the past; I gotta dig up those albums again :) Oh, and great pedal too! I still prefer my BE-OD though.
I just rewatched that video and the fact, that you try to match the ACs to the DS with the pedal is (at least to some degree) obsolete .. 🤷♂️ When I was at your place with Harry we discovered, that the AC 20 and the DS (can) sound EXACTLY the same without the help of anything 😁
When playing in your bedroom/studio, switches on top of the pedals are ok, I guess. When playing live and operating pedals with your feet, a toggle too near to the foot switch is a very stupid idea. So many pedal snobs and bedroom rockers are so used to operate their pedals only with their hands, that they (and many manufacturers/non-musicians) often don’t even see the problem anymore. 🤦♂️ I constantly see literally completely UNUSABLE pedals for insane prices like that out there. 😢 Pedals used to be tools for working musicians but became toy-like fetish objects for clowns with fu money.
I only watch demos of pedals that use 8 amps.
Although Henning boasts with his playing using his pinkie. Yeah, we noticed Henning. Now calm down. :-)

+Sven Horlemann pinky power
Based on where I see your comments today, you're watching just as many videos as I am lol
EytschPi42 that's what she said
8:20 Lol, they intentionally made in impossible to scoop the mids with this pedal, so people can't ruin their tone.
Messiah of Fire Genius idea for sure.
Well that sucks. If your amp has too much mid, you need to be able to cut them.
@@endezeichengrimm such a thing exists?
@@MessiahofFire Yes. That's what makes your tone shit and makes the mix muddy.
My god, that AC30 sounds so good with the pedal
I think it even sounds better than the dirty shirley amp itself!
yep, same
I get that too - Friedman is all about rock and roll attitude - very hot Marshall rock and roll attitude - and that works for me.

Should've tried getting the dirty Shirley to sound like itself with the pedal into clean,
Great playing

There are many good ones... tough to say... really depends on what YOU need!

Πόπη Δουρμούσογλου do you know there’s an internal trimpot to lower or raise the be od’s drive? Just saying. Some people forget or don’t know.
I own the BE-OD and know what that trim pot does.
One thing it does not, though, is reducing the aggression.
Which is fine; for the BE-OD.

I was thinking on the Mooger Fooger delay till I saw the price
I hafto say you are a star in this community. Keep up the good work.
One of my favorites.
Final conclusion: "And we wanna come home and we wanna be Slash. Well, Slash in a box, right there." Pedal sold.
Why not the low input on the JCM800? It’s an excellent pedal platform.
A really cool comparison - makes me want to have this Pedal. But - have you really played all the time with splitted Humbucker?
man you make great videos, thanks
To me it sounds too much thin and metallic as a booster. I hope it sounds better into the effects loop of an amp?
Been watching your videos for a while now, but watching this I just realized you are legit one of those guitar god people. Maybe it’s the pedal. I’ll ask Dave.
Sebastian Bach Forever. You have succeeded in this project 👌🤘

Henning, seems like you just built that new amp rack a few months ago. Looks like you need an even bigger one now!
Killer demo, as always.
Unrelated question:
Who is singing that first song?
Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)
This pedal is amazing for boosting high gain amps for leads!
Thank you for the comprehensive demo Paul, can you compare it to the Bogner Lagrange pedal, is there too much over lap between them?
Loved the review. Just suscribed.. cheers!
no victory ? :(
It's been temporarily replaced by the Morgan
Whoah. Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy guitar out of no where. That was sweeet.
Keeping the mids in mind, would this pedal work with a klon type pedal before it?
I know this question is from 10 months ago, but for what it's worth I use the DS with a Wampler Tumnus in front for leads. It's awesome.

Did you like it beter than the Angry Charlie?
no
Hi , so you liked the angry charlie beter?
The Wampler DRACARYS as a switch on top would be great if you could change the tight and open switch with a foot switch !!!!!! That's my 2cents
Hey Hennig,
perhaps you could provide us with some wave samples ?

Btw cool playing!!!
+Kai Fischer it’s not mine, it’s on loan.... no need to demo it, people know what it sounds like.... and I already have a JCM video!
EytschPi42
Ok sounds logic, sorry for my dumbness : )
Found the jcm video, now
Wie heist der Song??....muss ich haben....ach ja, ich glaub das Peda auch!!

This smokes the BE-OD.
Excellent info!!! I ordered my Dirty Shirley yesterday - warm Christmas ahead!
Why the hell would you want the jcm 800 clean ppl that have that amp don't set it clean...come on mate try the pedal with a driven amp ffs.
A Clean JCM800? What's that? 😂
99.9% of all AIAB pedals are designed to sound best through clean platforms.

Dirty Shirley for sure! In my opinion.
It's the Murple Monster Guitar!!
I want it
Why stop at 7 why not try it with 700 amps
He said "BROWN EYE" LOL 💩👁🎵🎸
