That db meter should be present in all gear related youtube videos! Once I was a teenager and watched a demo of a Marshall 2061x head by Andy (proguitarshop) and I immediatly fell in love with the cranked 20 watt tone and I ordered the amp and back then had no idea how loud a cranked 20 watt tube head will sound! :)))))) once I received the amp I just pluged it and wondered why it is sounding so clean at my bedroom level :))))))
Yeah man - it's all about headroom. Rob Chappers did a video years ago comparing 50 and 100 w Orange heads with the Tiny Terror through a 4x12 and at full the TT was almost as loud as the other two.
Damn man i love that raw bridge pickup sound from the strat those tex mex pickups are rly nice . Keep it up Thomann you guys rock even with the delivering delays . ITS WORTH THE WAIT !! :D
I didn't think the BE-OD sounded bad, by any means, but it seems like -- at least based on this particular demo and situation -- that the Dirty Shirley pedal would cut through a mix better. Obviously not as good or complex-sounding as the amp of the same name, but it still definitely sounds good through the Fender, IMO.
I just got one to create a mini jam board, tuner, OD, delay when I don't feel like taking out my rig which is a DS40 1x12 and board I have spent some time with it running my amp clean and using the pedal for OD I can't believe how damned close it gets to the actual amp gain! I tried it as a solo boost just for kicks and was blown away, truly like having a two channel DS. Just soldered up a few cables for the tiny board and will use it tonight at a club jam, this one really limits you to about 15 minutes of playing and was tired of hauling out my rig.
Pretty Maids, Future world!! Great F'n Riff!!!Was gonna get the BE-od..But for Studio Recording it seems like the Dirty Shirley is a tad more versatile and a little more harmonically rich..
Awesome stuff! I really dig that DS+ hot rod combination! Witch reminds me..I'll need to buy an old Hot Rod and new DS pedal from you guys..just incase, for does crappy gigs that are not worthy bringing my Dirty Shirley combo! Awesome review! Friedman rock's!!!
Cool, I have a DS 40 combo and a nice board I LOVE.. had a lot of nice amps, usually heads and cabs.. There are times when I want to do a club jam and not haul everything for a 15 minutes a playing and I have been toying with the idea of very small board, DS pedal, delay and tuner and plugging into whatever amp is there.. and a Fender like this is very common in Austin. I have never, ever, ever relied on an OD pedal. But., I just might...
I have a DS40 with a matching 412 loaded with greenbacks and it is glory...... Just Rock and roll glory..... So dynamic you don't need channels just a volume knob..... Goes from clean to jcm800 with a boost levels of gain with a volume knob...... That said.....it loves pedals too
I prefer the Dirty Shirley Pedal I run it through my Suhr Bella and smaller gigs Blues Jr with Creamback . Bella has a Alnico Gold I like to kick it a notch by stacking The Archer in front Divine
How does it sound w a 1-10 combo like a Princeton or something?? Thanks So would be going Strat or LP into a JHS 66 Boost -- 808 or DS probably both Lovepedal EPH3 delay to the Princeton
I love running the Princeton thru a 2/12 cab....I swapped some 1973 Vox alnico gold's into a nice light Mojo Tone cab Really interested in that DS pedal Gets me away from that Strat SRV tones to say a Ronny Montrose type thing
This is the first video I’ve watched where I liked the DS better. I think having the bass turned way up on it and the bass down on the BE makes a huge difference I’d be interested to see if you can get similar sound as the DS from the BE deluxe with it’s lower gain channel and extra controls
Hey M. Miro, that would have been a good idea also - just for the sake of comparison. We just thought that a pedal-platform amp like the Hot Rod is more prown to be driven by a Dirty Shirley pedal than the Dirty Shirley amp itself - which of course already has all the circuitry in it to offer a fantastic drive channel as well :) And the tight switch is off.

(i want flexibility)
Well its been 2 years now since your comment i guess you have found what you needed but if that's not the case , to drive an amp like those you don't need this pedal or any other pedal thats called an amp in a box which is a replica of the amp in a pedal , this pedals is based in the same amp this guy is playing , also if you have a nice amp like those you mentioned , you don't need to push the amp much those amps have great dirt channels , they are famous because of those sounds but if you want to push a bit more you just need a booster or a mild overdrive , the tubescreamer is always a great option however not always with marshall (great if the marshall is mids scooped ) since the mids of the amp are very present and the tS is all about mids but any boss od work great to push the amp keeley katana , tc mini spark xotic ep booster

Cool video and great sounds, but unfortunately it was pretty much useless. What was the clean tone like, what were the settings and volume like on the Hot Rod and was it breaking up? With the Les Paul it clearly was. Most of the professional gigging players I know that play on clean amps, play on clean clean amps, so no breakup for obvious headroom and volume reasons. With most of these kind of RUclips videos the settings of the clean amp are adapted to make the pedal sound best, while normally you would set the amp to what you think sounds good (and a decent volume) and then see how the pedals sound like. With a lot of Fender amps a high gain pedal turns out to be stiff, scooped and very shrill sounding.. 'But it sounded so great on the RUclips video's!!!' :'( :'( The reason why soooo many players sold their BE-OD, after finding out it didn't sound like Pete Thorn on your own setup, but sounded like a glorified Metal Zone.
Hey Martijn, thx for your comment! Check out 4:32 you'll see the Hot Rod settings. That wasn't being changed throughout the vid. If you're curious about our volumes being giggable or not, just pay attention to the dB meter, that's why we have it there. :-) 100dB is an ideal (rock) stage volume, so that's what we went for. None of the two guitars were breaking up on the Hot Rod, which is not a surprise at this volume (the volume knob was at 2,5). Don't worry about Friedman drive pedals not sounding good with completely clean amps: Dave designs these pedals to work awesome even with a Deluxe Reverb set clean. ;-) //cheers, Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Hi Kris, thanks for your reply! You just sold me on the the pedal then... ; ) Sorry, I didn't see the Hot Rod settings, because I was doing other things whilst listening to the video. Tried to scroll through the video to see settings, but didn't find them. I'm always a bit suspicious with high gain pedal demo's, because the clean sound is often set very dark to compensate the fizz or lack of mids they tend to have. With so many videos nothing is said about the clean sound, or we just get to hear it one second and know that it's nothing like you would normally set it. Would be nice if we could hear the clean sound at the start and 100 Db is pretty loud for a lot of smaller gigs, but oh well! Great video and playing nonetheless and I will order the pedal soon ; )
