  • #OTwithDA #DavidAsscherick #PatriarchsandProphets | Welcome to our third supplemental session for OT with DA. The purpose of these additional sessions is to address "thorny" or "problematic" issues, passages, etc. in the Old Testament.
    In this conversation I catch up with Dr. Sean Pitman about some particular areas of interest and study for him: science, creation, evolution, the flood, and more. The time flew by, so we're planning a follow-up session in the next few weeks. Hope you enjoy it and find it helpful. I know I did!

    Awesome. Learning science is not my strong point but when applied to biblical truth it all makes sense to me. Wonderful and when I view the other videos I can’t wait to hear from him again.

    This discussion rearranged my brain. It moved so quickly into deep water I had to watch it in segments to breathe. I believe in God the creator and that the Bible is his Word. I appreciate that the doctor talked about his search for understanding. Each person has the choice to believe Satan’s lie “you will not surely die” or God’s promise “whoever believes in Me, will not perish, but have everlasting life.”

    It often seemed to the family within the ark that they must perish, as for five long months their boat was tossed about, apparently at the mercy of wind and wave. It was a trying ordeal; but Noah's faith did not waver, for he had the assurance that the divine hand was upon the helm.
    As the waters began to subside, the Lord caused the ark to drift into a spot protected by a group of mountains that had been preserved by His power. These mountains were but a little distance apart, and the ark moved about in this quiet haven, and was no longer driven upon the boundless ocean. This gave great relief to the weary, tempest-tossed voyagers. . PP 105.1-PP 105.2…supports Dr Sean’s thoughts.

    Fantastic discussion! Thank you for educating us! This conversation sparked some questions for me: Dr. Pittman referenced an ice age that occurred several hundred years after the Flood. Since I haven't heard this mentioned in the Bible, does this mean the biblical world wasn't aware of the climate change associated with the polar ice caps were forming and then receding? Further, since the Flood events tilted the world's axis, why would there be no seasons until several hundred years after?

    • @Seanpit1
      @Seanpit1 2 года назад +10

      It was just so warm, worldwide, after the Flood that the "seasons" were muted for several hundred years. The Bible doesn't really speak of the "ice ages" because the Old Testament concentrates on Abraham and his descendants - who didn't live in the colder latitudes following the initial sudden ice age, but along the northern border of the central greenbelt during this time. The weather in this particular region was more mild, even compared to today, and the lands of Caanan and the Middle East were lush and verdant, "flowing with mild and honey" as well. They weren't the dry desert regions that they are today. Even the Sahara Desert was lush and verdant - covered by a large inland lake during this time.

    Question to Dr. Pitman:
    He was talking about how he was scared to research about evolution and find out that it was right, opposed to what the Bible says. How did he decide to still do that research despite the fear? Was he afraid to have to become an atheist, or would the consequence just be not to believe in the bible account of creation literally? And how did his relationship to God develop during the time before and while he was doing that research?
    Maybe he could talk a little bit about that.
    Great session by the way, it was super interesting! Thank you.

      For me, if I became convinced of the reality of Darwinian-style evolution, that would be inconsistent with Christianity in general and would fundamentally undermine the credibility of the Bible. So, there was a lot riding on the line for me when I started to seriously look into this question for myself. As William Provine (American historian of science and of evolutionary biology and population genetics) once pointed out:
      “Naturalistic evolution has clear consequences that Charles Darwin understood perfectly. 1) No gods worth having exist; 2) no life after death exists; 3) no ultimate foundation for ethics exists; 4) no ultimate meaning in life exists; and 5) human free will is nonexistent.”
      If one is really honest with one's self, this is the road one steps on when one starts to consider the ramifications of Darwinian-style evolution vs. the Biblical view of origins...

    I just finished watching this video and want to thank you for it. God is truly amazing the way He takes the time to explain to us the truth of evolution through His children. I don't know if this is the correct thing to do but I want to mention that Walter Veight eons ago brought out a video that showed how trees were uprooted and substance that was supposed to be somewhere was somewhere else because it was shifted by the force of the water. Maybe you can contact him and ask him about it? Finding his contact details would be easy for you, I would imagine. Just on the side, I am on chapter 29 of DA with DA and chapter 10 of OT with DA and I do a chapter of each every day. God bless you and your family and all your guests and may He keep you safe .

    If a subject is not in the King James Bible then it is not important to God. 1 tim. 6:20, "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science FALSELY so called:"

      All truth is important to God, to include the discoveries of scientific methodologies since God is the one who created us to be able to think rationally/scientifically in our study of both the written Word and nature - God's "second book".

      @@Seanpit1 For one example, the scrabble analogy does not work as an analogy at all, since it relies on the false assumption that the fundamental processes by which evolution by natural selection operates are somehow random in the sense of a die roll or throwing a bunch of scrabble blocks onto the table, when that simply isn't the case. Environmental selection pressures are precisely what makes the process a *non-random* one. This randomness argument, false calculations of probability, and what I'd call the "ten to the power of a big impressive number I pulled out of my rear end" argument, is simply a played-out canard at this point.

    • @Seanpit1
      @Seanpit1 2 года назад +4

      @@siim605 Random genetic mutations are exactly that - random. Natural selection can only apply "pressure" or "guidance" to these random genetic mutations if a particular mutation happens to be functionally beneficial beyond what was already there in the gene pool of options. Otherwise, natural selection is completely blind to the random mutations taking place within the gene pool. So, you have to ask yourself, "What are the odds of actually finding a novel beneficial genetic sequence by random mutation"? Well, those odds decrease, exponentially, with each linear increase in the minimum size of the genetic sequence - which is exactly what the Scrabble illustration demonstrates. There simply is no fundamental difference here. Yours is a common mistaken assumption, but it simply isn't true...
