    I made a mistake with the GT3 weight. Mis-read due to not wearing my glasses 😂 Should be around 1500kg. Sorry…totally my bad 😢

      1500kg can’t imagine that heavy …. PDK? steel rotors? comfort seats ? roll cage is 45lbs … my GT3 Touring lightest spec is 1400 kgs with lithium battery -40lbs, BBS wheels -26lbs, Dundon headers and RS titanium center -45lbs … PCCB’s, carbon buckets, manual, no roll cage

    I have a 991.2 GT3. Excellent car and our local dealer is top notch from my experience. Approaching 40k kms and it is tracked on a regular basis. Only a couple minor problems to date. Had I not modified the suspension, it is perfectly acceptable as a daily for me but certainly not a grocery getter, especially with the cage and carbon buckets with set backs. Though I can understand how some people would find it too much.
    The sound is intoxicating all the way to 9000 (it has the same redline as a 992). With Dundon headers it is another level of madness and can hold the 992 on the straight. Which shows something special is going on with the 992 given it's downforce, same gearing, and pretty much the "same power".
    After witnessing many McLarens not make it through a track weekend despite McLaren being onsite and only one modern Porsche suffer the same despite doing many Porsche only weekends with 40 plus cars, I am happy with my decision.
    That said, McLarens sure are beautiful and definitely capable.

    I’ve owned a 991.2 GT3 and now have a heavily MSO equipped 600LT Clubsport and although I miss the instant throttle response and noise of the GT3 (I had a titanium bypass on it to add to the drama) but I’d honestly say the LT is the better car 90% of the time. Especially on the average UK road. The damping on the LT is more compliant and doesn’t crash so much as the GT3. Still incredibly precise yet maintains body control better as well as cornering so flat it feels like it’s defying the laws of physics.
    Performance wise the LT is in a different league entirely. 0-125mph in 8.2 seconds says it all.

    • @PapaG603
      @PapaG603 2 года назад +2

      My prob with 600 is the reliability..its a great car to drive but 1.its not as reliable 2.they cost an arm for service. Porsche which I have 2 I've yet to have an issue..oil filter tires..and 1 of them is an 05 996 4s one of the last ones with am x51 pack and it's a raw car..prob my favorite..I did have a go with 720s and while it's a missile it started having issues almost immediately so I let it go within 3 months..out of those 3 months I actually had it for 3 weeks

    • @brcardetailing
      @brcardetailing 2 года назад +2

      @@PapaG603 I’d agree that there are more issues with Mclaren’s generally. I’ve been lucky and had nothing go wrong with mine at all, with it being under warranty that wouldn’t be an issue currently. I’d certainly not own one without a warranty especially with the potential corroded panels issue.
      Servicing costs on the LT are actually cheaper per service (although they are every 12 months) a major service on the GT3 cost £2100 whereas the LT was £1400.

      The 600 Lt must have some suspension on it! Driven many GT3’s and own one. I would never describe the suspension as crashy. Firm yes, but they take bumps well and are rarely unsettled.

    • @brcardetailing
      @brcardetailing 2 года назад +2

      @@555dho555 maybe crashy is the wrong word. I’d say on a perfect German road a GT3 would be sublime but on the average UK road where there’s camber and uneven surfaces I found it would often be very much up on its toes and require lots of counter steering to keep it on track (which lessened as speed increased strangely) the LT doesn’t have the fancy magic carpet ride of a 720S but you can tell it’s been designed with UK roads in mind. It’s very much like a big powerful Lotus with enough compliancy to keep the tyres flat on uneven surfaces and subsequently almost glide along, having three different suspension settings certainly helps but even in sports mode (it has comfort, sport and track) I personally prefer it over my GT3.

    Awesome. Both epic cars. Defo The GT3 for me but close. I was bought a GT experience at PEC Silverstone for my 50th and drove a 997 GT3RS, 991.2 GT3RS and a 991 GT2RS. My favourite was the GT3RS. Great Video Pete. I'd prefer the 911 tbh. I was recently watching another YT from RPM Technique, who'd converted a 991 GT3 Winged version into a GT3 Touring with a PDK. This did away with cage and the rear wing. It was for a customer who wanted a GT3 Touring with rear seats, looked really good. I'd prefer a Duck-Tail instead of the wing on a 991.2 version. I think the conversion was about £12K and could be reversed too.

    I had the opportunity to buy a new 600LT spider about 1 year ago at a great price… but a German customer beat me to it while I was negotiating.
    I’m a McLaren fan but…
    As long as they do not open up their policy on after sales and allow independent dealers to work on their cars… I’m gonna pass on my favourite sports brand unless I get a ridiculously good deal.
    The GT3 provides such drama and old skool drivers fun with that superb manual… mine has full spec with PCCB.
    For track days, its cost/fun ratio is hard to beat thanks to great independent dealers.
    And a GT3 keeps its resell value, it actually increases at the moment.
    Love the noise of that flat six at 8000 rpm!!
    At any RPM actually …

I drive my car every day, do the weekly supermarket shopping in it, drive to work etc. The McLaren quality control and fit and finish is a big factor, as well as depreciation. Great dream review....I think i'd still take the 600LT as something fully special and make sure the daily was something good enough. I think the 911 would be a daily but then you'd worry about mileage and problems and so it wouldn't actually be a daily and you'd still get another car. ( I also think the 600 would be the less default or common choice too. )...So if they were both occasional cars then you would take the more extreme one.

    At a recent track day, I pulled into the paddock next to a fellow with a Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0, same color as my GT4 4.5. We chatted a while and he explained he was much happier with the Porsche, after getting rid of a McLaren that cost him many thousand$ every time he sneezed. The constant 4 and 5 figure repair bills took all the fun out of it. Besides, he said, the Porsche is every bit as fun to drive. His testimony aligns with every knock I’ve heard about McLarens, which is poor reliability and horrendous cost of ownership. I’ve got 4 Porsches now, and none have suffered extreme costs for repairs, even the one on track duty. My other suspicion on McLarens is their handling at the limit. You can’t put wide front tires on it for clearance reasons (max 235), so the mechanical grip in hard cornering is limited. I’ve watched track day videos where the McLaren opens up a gap on the straight, only to be caught in the corners by less powerful Porsches running 275mm wide front tires.

    As some that has owned both a 991.2 GT3 and McLaren 600LT Spider. Hands down the McLaren is more visceral to drive. Pops and cracks of the exhaust, and how well the McLaren sticks to the road - amazingly well. For only 225 rubber up front the initial turn in is excellent. Only slight understeer. I suspect the 992 GT3 front end would even things up a bit. Haven’t driven one yet. Even compared to a 991.2 GT3 RS the 600LT is amazing. They ALWAYS underestimate….. it’s easy to 90 and people always guess 60. It’s a smooth comfortable and composed drive. Do I need my more power?…. No absolutely not.

    I know those roads well. You are a brave man to take those cars there on the A24. Both excellent tools too loose your license with around there. Personally I will stick to my XJ. A whole lot more sensible. Then you have £150k to hire a variety of cars on track days when the speed bug bites and keep points of licence or go to Barbados maybe 🤔

    GT3 for me, even if I won the lottery, as much as I like the idea of the 600lt, I think I would be worried about spending the rest of my winnings, lest anything went wrong with the McLaren. I say that of course without any personal experience, based only on the possible prejudice towards the brand in general, although when I visited my local (now defunct) dealership, back in 12c days, window shopping of course, I wasn’t impressed with the setup or the way they “welcomed” me. First impressions count.

      You ain’t kidding about the costs for the McLaren. Else where on RUclips a McLaren owner was saying that the warranty was around 4 grand a year and the windscreen alone was a similar amount. The panel gaps and shut lines were also horrendous considering the cost. My father in law has a Porsche 993 that’s around 20 years old with just over 100 thousand on the clock. It starts first time ,still looks like new and doesn’t cost him an arm and a leg to use. Services and other maintenance carried out at an independent Porsche specialist costs him around a grand a year. Plenty fast enough for the road and because it was the last air cooled 911 it’s even gone up in value. The Porsche will be far more reliable as it’s built to last. There are plenty for sale with over 100 thousand on the clock. I bet there isn’t 1 privately owned McLaren with anything like that mileage.

  • @jimsteinway695

    The BIG difference is you can drive the GT3, you only admire the McClaren while it sits in service waiting to be fixed. The other thing is the depreciation of the McClaren is faster than a failing US bank. The GT3 just doesn’t depreciate

    Could you really daily a GT3? I'm sure you could but from a retaining value standpoint would you want too? I'd have both but twisting my arm, I'd pick the 600LT - that sound and those exhausts. I think I'd only take it out at night for the firework display in the rear view mirror 😂😂😂

    Super series car is a big step up with hydraulic suspension and active aero.

    Personally as a road car I'd prefer a 991.2 GT3 Touring with the Standard seat's. All the performance but not as in your face and comfier on a road trip. The only issue is the price difference between the Touring and a normal GT3. You'll be lucky to get one for less than £200k. 🤬🤬 P.S I drove past a Chicane Grey 600LT on Saturday just down the road from me. Looked mean on the road. Not sure about the reliability issues with McLaren's though so the GT3 gets my vote..Who needs more than 500hp on the road anyway??
