It's practically impossible to find a car that is perfect. More power and very quick, sounds good, very stable, looks good, nice interior and spacious. What else. I like it and I would go for it. Nice video.
I endorse the Alpina suggestion. On my third. The B3 has the same 0-62mph, faster at 188mph, and importantly very discreet and more comfortable. Yes these last two things do matter.
Is the weather in the UK ever great? Watched countless reviews made in the UK and you almost always here...."its a bad weather today". Nice video and review, enjoyed it.
Hi Ped - perfect timing just as I unwind after a busy day. Sit back and petrol ped time! Thanks for the content - this channel is going places!! Love the podcast too mate.
I can understand why people buy an M3 for track use, but honestly for a normal road car with “ordinary” seats that you can get in to without that huge bolster, an M340i is more than powerful enough. I am sure most people can make good use of the £20k plus saving!
Or get the X3M comp with £18-£21k dealer contribution included. Pretty much the same car, tad bit heavier but for non driving purists like me its no big deal.
You are right when talking/thinking about it from a rational point of view and I would even say that a 330i ticks most of the boxes (own one myself) - however, the M3 is mostly not a rational decision 😛 I like the different/wider body and sound (at least whats left with the OPF). Never had anything faster than my 330i and it would be my first M-car as it's one car which can do everything. I has the look, the performance and 4 seats and a lot of space - so I don't need to run and maintain a second car.
If money wasn't an option for me i would have one of these , Its funny how that front grill has really grown on me from ah not to sure to my favorite grill bmw have come out with and i love it even more on this wagon 😊
Great car. The only two "cons" are: 1) You can not order a towing hitch (I use it for transporting bikes) and 2) You cannot order a glass roof (only carbon) which makes the interior a bit dark. That is why I finally bought M340i.
Same for me, I also have an m340i but tuned it. I will get an m3 touring at some point, can fit a hitch, the pano I can live without my f90 didn’t have one and it’s great for passengers
I’ve just sold mine. I didn’t need to transport bikes. For me the sound is not nice and grates on you after a few months. I’d argue it’s also too fast to enjoy everyday but otherwise an amazingly comfortable and capable car.
You're probably the last to the M3 Touring party but this was easily the best and most relevant review to me. I like this car a lot but even if I had the money to buy one, I wouldn't. I'd get the Alpina version instead. Specced correctly, it's a lot less brash and, so they say, the ride is a better as a one car fits all proposition. Plus those Alpina wheels ❤ ❤ ❤.
Excellent real world review again Peter! Was good to see your face light up when you squeezed the right pedal. And the noise! That’s exactly why I don’t think I’ll ever own and electric car. 👏👌
Spotted in the wild - Rick The Spud, in his natural habitat, doing a track day in a rusty old car! 😜 Great to see you mate, and glad you loved the M3. Having spent a week with the Saloon it's still one of my Top 5 cars I've ever driven, and I can't imagine the Touring being any less potent. Great bit of kit. 👊
You took the words out of my mouth… wait a couple of years and then pick one up at a more sensible price after someone else has taken the big depreciation hit! 👍
Relevant to this comment, you can pick up a relatively high mileage M5 comp for under 40k now... Talk about a depreciation hit... M5 Comp for 40% the price of a M3 Touring isn't to be ignored... unless you really really need to have that Touring...
Since it was released... this has been my wallpaper car - if I ever have the money I am getting one! Every car has it's faults but this is the be all and end all car. I love it!
£86k is mental, I got my M440i for £48k with 3k miles on the clock & 6 months old ex-demo, but fully loaded launch model and does 0-60 in 3.8 despite the advertised 4.5!
You are spot on madness. 100 k for a M3 estate if this was a 8 series maybe, A BMW badge only goes so far Porsche badge goes further the Panamerica is very nice
In case I forget, your FOS first timers guide video, well having watched it we managed to get there this year. Tickets upgraded and importantly a full English in the Porsche Club. Top tip. Thank you. Back to the video……
Great video. I really enjoy proper ‘living with’ content - I know that it’s fast and going to go down the road well, it’s actually a lot of the more mundane stuff that is super useful to know about that is often not covered in detail in other reviews.
I’ve always been a BMW wagon fan but not a BMW M fan, especially the later ones. The spec of this one is the epitome of what BMW and M have become: black on black, an always loud exhaust and those excruciatingly naff seats with the cock rest. Alpina is the best balance of what BMW once was in terms of discreetly fast cars with comfort, although they will soon become a blingy trim level, I’m sure. Which is why I’m replacing my Alpina B5 Touring with one of the final B5 GT Tourings early next year. And it will be with me until I’m old(er). I’ve driven an M3 Touring and would prefer an M340i Touring if I had to have a 3 Series.
Without doubt an awesome car and I would have one in a blink of an eye, if I had the following; extensive property portfolio, second house in the caribbean, third house in the Med, kids in private boarding school, three holidays a year, impressive collection of cars... etc etc etc. However, I refer you to your review of the Octavia.... Probably more in our price range for the average guy. I am fortunate enough to have a BMW 330e M Sport as a company car.. I love it but I could never justify owning one.
Performance of the current M3/M4 generation is excellent. But as a daily Alpinas builds the best cars. I got delivery of the new Alpina B3 GT Touring last Friday, it replaced the Alpina D3s Touring. Performance wise the B3 GT is at the M3 level. Alpina's interpretation of a high performance yet comfortable street car, be it Limo or Touring, is more to my liking as is the design and styling as compared to a M3.
A brilliant review Pete. I am in your camp. It’s without doubt the ultimate wagon, but its just that price. I see it in the £70k’s if I’m honest. Definitely not £100k plus. An epic all rounder though.
When everyone else has the same thing, it can put me off. I think I understand where you're coming from. Have to admit, those Carbon seats and trim elements do look very good.
I think the deals will be around next year. I had two visits to my BMW dealer over a five week period and the five M3/M4 they had in the showroom had not shifted on the return visit. I have bought a number of new BMW/Minis on PCPs and what I am noticing more is the return of the marketing email with deposit contributions and discounts. I have commented before that my PCP deal for my M4 which I ended up paying the ballon on was close to the one for a new X1 or 320i. These are mass produced cars and so it's logical they will need to be discounted in order to sell when finances for most are more constrained. In reality the 340i is the one that makes the real sense, especially in Touring spec.
You do like a fast estate car and I do as well but have to put up with estate cars without the fast. I concede that one with four wheel drive is probably a better Solution than an SUV but I do like to see whats over a bridge or hedge as I drive along. The price is restrictive and the seats stunning as they are cannot be justified at £7k unless as you say it was a second hand purchase with them specified at purchase. It did sound good as you gave it some beans. All in all a very competent car.
Great review on great reviewed car. Some individual testing and I think your the first one to say buy a second hand one. I think that’s what I’ll be doing from now, a few(!) classes down.
As always late to your video mate, but also as always thoroughly enjoyable. Liked the living with the car approach and Mrs P’s opinion was spot on. I can’t lie the looks aren’t for me (you know which bit lol), but got to say Joe’s looks much better with some nice mods.
I've seen all the other reviews from those you spoke of, but I was especially waiting for yours Pete because I value your opinion. I was fortunate enough to test drive a M3 Comp xDrive sedan back to back with an Audi RS4. The question the wife and I faced after getting out of the M3 was not which car we thought was better, it was "can we afford to pay the extra money over what a RS4 costs?!" I am not a BMW shill, there is a lot to like about the Audi RS4, but there are a few places where the M3 is clearly superior and its not just in the stats (price notwithstanding). I could not find a comfortable driving position in the RS4, the interior and tech of the B9 are looking pretty long in the tooth, and there were a few small things about the Audi I won't list that long term would really start to annoy me. One point I disagree with you about is that the M3 really doesn't try to conceal the fact you are in a M car when you are in Road/Comfort mode. The RS4 does a much better job of it which in of itself is no small feat of engineering. I am not saying this is a bad thing, the M3 certainly is very well mannered and compliant enough to daily if you wanted, but the Audi's ride in Comfort mode could almost be described as luxurious. As I said in your G80 M3 sedan review, I ordered a Touring because I think the G81 is the best looking of the G8x range, that rear end balances out the beaver grill nicely. I've just received a build slot and the car is due to arrive some time in the first quarter of 2024. PS. I did wonder what Mrs Petrol Ped's appearance fee was?
Yes depreciation after a few years… now that’s the value proposition and the idea I have. I recently collected an X3 M Competion, approved, 25k miles, 2020, top spec including sun roof for around 46k, new was around 80k! Hopeing to get into an m3 touring in 3/4 years around the 45k mark. I hear these depreciate more? Does anyone have any value figures from their PCP ownership of this car?
I looked at one of these to replace my F90 M5 but the prices are just stupid. The depreciation is also pretty steep and the discount available is nowhere near enough to compensate, so for now I am keeping the M5.
Same. The price of cars these days is madness. M5 is costing a fortune though (depreciation, insurance, warranty etc) so I have been looking at alternatives, but no way I’d spend £100k on a 3 series, even if M division have been over it.
@@PrinceBarin77 It's hard to find anything comparable to the M5 though. I toyed with a Macan GTS to give me the space I need, Mercedes have nothing I want and I have never been an Audi fan. I have considered being sensible and getting a Golf R or maybe an RS3 but I don't get excited at the thought. I drove the M3 at Silverstone and the M4 at PalmerSport and they are great cars with enormous grip and predictable handling. I think Pete's suggestion of something lightly used looks very sensible given the depreciation the M3 and M4 have suffered. We might not get many opportunities to enjoy ICE cars in the future.
@@johnwallace520 I’m glad it’s not just me! There really isn’t much out there that does the practical fast car thing so well. The M3 touring is as close as I can find (and it’s half the price to insure for me) but the cost and the horrible big screens dropped onto the old school dash really put me off. I fear the M5 will have to go in the Spring though. It’s a brilliant car but sadly it’s not popular with the wife & kids (or my neighbours at 6am 😂). If it wasn’t costing as much to run, I’d ignore those complaints but I may just have to find something slightly less intense! M340i Tourings look decent value although I expect I’ll feel shortchanged coming from an M5. Fast electrics on a company car scheme are starting to call…
@@PrinceBarin77 I have had the 6am complaints from the neighbours too but it puts a smile on my face. My wife has an i-Pace and we really like it despite its normal JLR quirky infotainment system. It's quick and keeps the M5 honest up to 40 or 50mph from a standing start. I still don't think that EVs have developed enough yet. Tesla are the only ones with a genuinely usable long trip range. The Jaguar has a usable 200 mile range if you put it in Eco and don't have the wipers, heated seats, rear screen and cabin heating cranked up. I have several clients who jumped on the Taycan for tax saving reasons and then sold them within a year. The Taycan can do 200 miles as well if it is driven gently but if there is any spirited driving or cold weather it will only do somewhere between 160 and 180 miles before you are looking for a charger which just doesn't work for many people. It is great if you never venture too far from the house but the public charging network isn't up to coping with the number of EVs on the roads now, if you are trying to cover a good distance.
I've seen many who said "Yea yea it's good and all BMW finally made M3 Touring blablablabla but it's not good looking so I'll buy Alpina B3 instead". Nah. Nah nah nah nah nah, I'd pick the M3 Touring any day of the week. I've spent quite some time with the saloon, and I was blown away by how usable it is for daily stuffs, yet it is fantastic to drive. And I've grown to really dig the looks of the new M3 and M4. The Touring treatment adds that amazing rear-end and modicums of practicality. Usually I'd recommend Alpinas, but the new M3 Touring is so good I'd struggle to find other car in its class that I can recommend more. I'd have one in Twilight Purple with M Performance star-spoke wheels in satin gold. However, BMW should be grateful that Alfa Romeo did not have the Sportwagon version of Giulia Quadrifoglio.
Hi Ped Yes I can see the attraction of this car because it ticks so many boxes. However, the price-ouch, those seats possibly not, and I note from existing comments no tow bar option and no pan roof😥😥 Best left until they start to appear on the used market and see if the price would be sensible. Also you would be constantly aware that your clean licence could be at risk.😉
Looks like BMW are trying to move some cars atm. Lots of videos about their cars appearing on youtube, all saying how awesome they are. Bit suspect, but great vid + great car!
@@PetrolPed I understand that. However, I think it was a safe bet you were going to say its a great car, its a £100k, 500+ hp wagon. On another note, if you showed a massive dislike to a car, good luck getting their cars in the future to review.
I gave a balance view. It is a great car for sure but over priced. I have given plenty of negative reviews in the past and maintained a great relationship with brands and dealers. They are not interested in yes men. I slated the Renault Arkana 😬 Truth is though there aren’t many rubbish cars ours there.
@@PetrolPed Ok. I didn't say it wasn't balanced, I think you have misread my original comment. I think you think I was saying something I wasn't. The volume of vids coming out at the moment saying how great the M cars are is just a bit weird (media push to get some sales, not a bad thing and to be expected with the current issues dealers are having). Chill, your video was great (as I said at the end of my original comment), and the car is great (as I said at the end of my original comment). One final comment, no producer of goods wants negative press. Keep slagging their products and they will stop supplying them to you. Chris Harris and Ferrari is a popular example. Enjoy yours cars/christmas, cheers.
@dmeobbt I wasn't arguing. I really appreciate your comment and just like to interact with my followers. There are plenty of RUclipsrs out there that just say how awesome every car is. I try really hard not to be one of them. Have a great Christmas yourself and thanks for taking the time to comment 🙏
Hey ped, great to see mrs ped. And the pups. If you and Tracey decided to pull the trigger on a fast estate, would it be this, an alpina, the amg class or an Audi S4? Or would you go a level down?
Great review. For me 100k allows for a track/sunday car and daily more comfortable/economic vehicle. Which you’d be less worried about parking places and putting miles on/ using for tip runs/ runs with muddy bikes in the back of. The Sunday vehicle can then be even more focused lotus Elise/exige/caterham/atom Main downside is you don’t get the daily pose factor I guess.
I'm completely in agreement the prices are ridiculous! Dealers are now discounting up to 12k off list to shift stock with a dealer network discount applied beforehand! I have seen fully loaded cars at 105k reduced to 83k.
@@Nickbaldeagle02two very different cars then... The more comparable car is the RS4, which yes, is cheaper, but not as good. M5 touring is more comparable to the Panamera and RS6
Brilliant content as ever …. I think if and of course as and when i am in the market to purchase such a vehicle i will go on your sound advice …. I work as an Estate Manager in North Yorkshire and have an all terrain vehicle as works vehicle . I have always wanted a Land Rover as my daily …. But I am not comfortable with that connection … my go to is Fox red lab 3 yrs just working of course and time out running and off road biking .. biking just getting into as Bored and in need of etc …. I am thinking solution to problem solved … but at the end of the day i have worked too hard and my mind is split … fantastic review as always . I just love the romance of hopefully before my life ends of driving down to South West France in my Ferrari Dino and ….. loving your work ❤
I thought the Skoda Octavia VRS sounded quite good for a four cylinder turbo. IMO, this sounds really good for a modern turbo. Nobody makes a better inline six than BMW. I think I'd spec a 340i Touring.
Great review, great car, but I honestly have to agree with previous reviewer, Andrew cabbage. The M340 presents as a much more desirable car for road use. At the end of the day the Touring has been designed for daily road use. If you want a track xar the 4 series makes a better proposition. Law enforcement today, coupled with other motorists dashcam footage really limits the use of this cars performance. Why not run a comparison for us Ped. Love the pups. I think they deserve a fee.
Great real world review. I currently have a 2022 Macan GTS which is a great all rounder but very tempted with the m3 touring. I do worry about depreciation as there seems to be a lot around and dealers are discounting to offload stock, give it a year or two and will be a £50 to £60 k car
Cant live with the face. The bollock rest seats are a nonsense, and that's before the price. They are crashing on AT - loads out there now in low 70's. Mid to high 50's gets you into an M340i which is all the performance you need in the UK. I'll be replacing my lease M340i Touring when it goes back in April with.... Another one! 👍👍👍
A lot of comments have mentioned the M340i as an alternative to the M3 with good reason it's a good car, but there is a better one that has the same acceleration figures as the M3 but will do 190mph. Looks like a regular 3 series but has a snob value all off its own, and that's the Alpina B3..
No I don't think that. My point, which I believe you misunderstood. The 340i is a sort of halfway house, a compromise, a worthy alternative? It looks very similar, its performs well enough for most people most of the time and its around 26k cheaper. That's a lot of money. @@stubones
You mentioned in the video you are using a Land Rover defender for your Hendy Group long termer, what happened to the Nissan Ariya, apologies if I missed this in another video
The M3 Touring is not that expensive compared to a new 5 Series if you stay sensible with the options. Personally I think the standard seats are perfect. I have them in my M340d, and I love them. Stear clear of the carbon pack, and you have a pretty decent kitted M3 Touring, for not so much more than the base price. Atleast here in Sweden, I almost think the M cars, are the cars with the most atractive prices in the BMW range. The new 5 Series looks almost silly in comparison.
Carbon Packs are the curse of the egotistical.... Sure if you're a millionaire with money to burn, go wild, but if you're buying on finance, keep party tricks to a minimum...
Afternoon PP Was working last night So only catching up Love the look of M3 Touring but it has such a dull sound thanks to those annoying OPF’s I’d still take an Alpina 3 or 5 Series Touring
I love fast wagons. I had a Tesla Model X company car and once the lease was up I went back to a BMW 335d xDrive touring which is just all things to all people. I'm officially done with SUVs. Thing is, I paid under 15k for that BMW, and I just can't see how I would justify dropping 100k on something like this. It feels like the pricing is still stuck in the world of low interest PCP deals which I know you've covered before with your thoughts. It's an outrageous amount of money, I can afford one, I just can't justify it.I'm looking forward to the Audi A6 Avant e-tron which I will lease as a company car for the BIK discount which makes it somewhat financially reasonable. But without waiting a few years to pick one up after the depreciation has kicked in - and it will kick in hard on these given they're so popular - I just don't see it making sense. Also, you didn't mention MPG on this, which I'm kind of interested in seeing as I get 650nm of torque on my 335d but return 35mpg around town!
The big problem with the M3 touring is the M340i touring. Hard to justify the extra expense of the the M3 when the M340i is such a great car and already way faster than you can really use on British roads
Yes I know some SUV’s suit certain people but oh totally agree an estate over a SUV every time. BMW has nailed it, better than a RS6 maybe and the Audi has set the standard. A second hand two year old for £56k would be a good deal. I look at Cars as would my Mum get in and if not then n good. Plus I’m getting older probably similar age to yourself and climbing in and out that everyday😂 Yeah the comfort option seats would be getting ticked.
I went to the show room last week to see one and I'm now just waiting for my lottery numbers to come up so I can buy one! 3.9k to insure at a quick glance online for one second hand
What’s with the ‘wagon’ - Loved and owned BMW’s for 40 years now, but find myself moving to Audi for my last two cars, as the interiors seem so much classier than the move to iPod style dashes and some questionable styling - although I love the 3 and 4 series exterior look, but not the interior so much…
would be interested on knowing your thoughts about what you might gain or loose money/benefit by dropping down the 3 sereis touring range....a lot of what you like is surely available in lesser models..
What're your thoughts on the M3 (sedan sadly because I am in Canada) vs the RS5 as a daily? I've got some 2+ hour drives into the city for work every now and again, so don't want something that is overly stiff even with the suspension in "normal" or soft setting.
Hi I love a fast estate car ,I built a sierra cosworth estate F20YBT a few years ago and that was a rocket ship ,I also had a bmw m3 at the same time ,but as I've got older and our u.k laws have got a lot more anti motorist, the increase of 20 mph zones in built up areas average speed cameras everywhere and more dash cams than you can shake a stick at .unless you live in Germany and have constant access to the autobahn or the nurburgring I don't see the point anymore in super fast cars in the u.k .not saying I don't love fast cars ,it's our over controlling government and agency's that don't. Imagine spending 102,000 pound on a car and not being able to really open up the taps unless you leave the country you bought it in . When I had my cossie and my m3 I would regularly go to Germany to enjoy the cars ,but on the few occasions I would push the limits in the u.k I would get home and think well that was stupid. Even a 320d x drive estate would suffice.
Well, everyone talking about the m440i being a more rational Option. That might be true when you just want a fast wagon, but the m3 is much more than just a little more power. If you don’t want an aggressive, mean look, sure m440i would be a better Choice….. but dang… I need that m3, my absolute dreamcar cause it Ticks all the boxes of a daddy‘s sportswagon.
I agree a 💯 mega car but I do think we need a petrol pedal test on a alpina as not everyone has them, dare I say more class and less hooligan I think alot of us would love to see the same with those
A technique to get into your seats. I better be at a track day in my fun car when I'm doing that. It would get very old, very fast on a daily basis for me. IMHO. Don't get me wrong I do like a fast BMW but a 330d X-Drive will probably give as much usable performance.
Yep M3 Touring is perfect. I did a lot of comparing it with the B3 Alpina wagon, but it doesn’t quite cut it. The M3 Touring, has things that are missing on the Alpina. You miss out on the menacing looks, the paddle shifters, I think it has buttons. There is a list of things that make the M3 Touring a better choice. I know people are worried about depreciation, but I think these will be reasonable as going to be popular second hand as well. I’ve also tried both seats and agree I’d take the carbon buckets. I’ve tried getting in out and can manage them. Also love the carbon pack, just a shame they can’t have a carbon roof! Apart from that it’s the perfect car for me, dogs, bikes, lawn mower, it can manage my life’s practicalities. At the same time it has all the features I could ever want out of a car, performance, tech, looks….absolutely everything. I’ve been just trying to work out, how I could fund it. My problem is I don’t want to sell my HSV R8 Track Edition, 1 of 7 red autos made…also a magnificent car, but a sedan….
It's practically impossible to find a car that is perfect. More power and very quick, sounds good, very stable, looks good, nice interior and spacious. What else. I like it and I would go for it. Nice video.
Good point 👍 Glad you liked it 👍
I endorse the Alpina suggestion. On my third. The B3 has the same 0-62mph, faster at 188mph, and importantly very discreet and more comfortable. Yes these last two things do matter.
And the alpina is yet another 100kg heavier, almost 2ton at 1950kg...

Great car 👍
Thank you for another video.
Wish to meet you one day🫡
Wow thanks so much. Very generous. I’ll be running some meet and greet events next so you never know 👍
In case I forget, your FOS first timers guide video, well having watched it we managed to get there this year. Tickets upgraded and importantly a full English in the Porsche Club. Top tip. Thank you. Back to the video……
Amazing 👍
I've enjoyed your output this last year. Looking forward to seeing what you do in '24. In the meantime have a great Christmas.
Big year next year 👊
Without doubt an awesome car and I would have one in a blink of an eye, if I had the following; extensive property portfolio, second house in the caribbean, third house in the Med, kids in private boarding school, three holidays a year, impressive collection of cars... etc etc etc. However, I refer you to your review of the Octavia.... Probably more in our price range for the average guy. I am fortunate enough to have a BMW 330e M Sport as a company car.. I love it but I could never justify owning one.
My wife said the same about the seats as well , I plumbed for the standard ones in my m4
Our lovely ladies know 😜👍
Great video Pete 👍. How much 😲! Makes last week's video of the Octavia VRS an absolute bargain. Have a good weekend
That’s what I said in the vid 😬
Performance of the current M3/M4 generation is excellent. But as a daily Alpinas builds the best cars. I got delivery of the new Alpina B3 GT Touring last Friday, it replaced the Alpina D3s Touring. Performance wise the B3 GT is at the M3 level. Alpina's interpretation of a high performance yet comfortable street car, be it Limo or Touring, is more to my liking as is the design and styling as compared to a M3.
I am glad to see the slow but steady return of estate cars, which I've always found more attractive than the saloon they are based on.
When I see my E91 Touring next to a saloon version, its like Miss Universe parked next to Diane Abbott lol
A brilliant review Pete. I am in your camp. It’s without doubt the ultimate wagon, but its just that price. I see it in the £70k’s if I’m honest. Definitely not £100k plus. An epic all rounder though.
Absolutely 👍
One of the best BMW M Models you have driven and one of my favourites as well 😊
Mine too!
Followed you since the B8.5 S4 days. Had my own B8 S4 cos of it. Need to come back down to NZ
Ah mate that’s awesome and I would love to. Great country 👍
Yep 👍
Great review on great reviewed car. Some individual testing and I think your the first one to say buy a second hand one. I think that’s what I’ll be doing from now, a few(!) classes down.
Some bargains to be had 👍
As always late to your video mate, but also as always thoroughly enjoyable. Liked the living with the car approach and Mrs P’s opinion was spot on. I can’t lie the looks aren’t for me (you know which bit lol), but got to say Joe’s looks much better with some nice mods.
Glad you enjoyed it
I've seen all the other reviews from those you spoke of, but I was especially waiting for yours Pete because I value your opinion.
Thanks for this. We are still negotiating 😜😂
Great video and great review of this beast. Pretty new to your channel and really loving the content, the reviews are some of the best on RUclips 💪
Ah thanks mate and welcome to the channel 👍
Yes depreciation after a few years… now that’s the value proposition and the idea I have. I recently collected an X3 M Competion, approved, 25k miles, 2020, top spec including sun roof for around 46k, new was around 80k!
Hopeing to get into an m3 touring in 3/4 years around the 45k mark. I hear these depreciate more?
Does anyone have any value figures from their PCP ownership of this car?
Brilliant Video Ped on the M3 Touring I love these type of estate cars my problem no matter how great the car is would be the price tag
Thanks dude 👍
Great it got the Mrs Ped seal of approval Pete
Not easy to achieve 😂
Cheers Mr & Mrs great review
I looked at one of these to replace my F90 M5 but the prices are just stupid. The depreciation is also pretty steep and the discount available is nowhere near enough to compensate, so for now I am keeping the M5.
Maybe wait 6 months and then look at used 👍
Don’t forget to use the ‘shopping chute’ for dog loading/unloading where the back window only lifts. Or ‘dog chute’ in your case 🦮
Oh how cool would that be 😮
Hi Ped
Yes I can see the attraction of this car because it ticks so many boxes. However, the price-ouch, those seats possibly not, and I note from existing comments no tow bar option and no pan roof😥😥 Best left until they start to appear on the used market and see if the price would be sensible. Also you would be constantly aware that your clean licence could be at risk.😉
At that price not surprise dealers have many M3s saloon and touring versions ready to drive away. Mind blowing depreciation is coming
Some bargains to be had 👍
Goodwood to Petersfield and little Switzerland, couple of my favourite roads!
Yep. Great aren’t they 👍
Looks like BMW are trying to move some cars atm. Lots of videos about their cars appearing on youtube, all saying how awesome they are. Bit suspect, but great vid + great car!
That’s not how press cars work. We are under no obligation to say nice things. Honestly and integrity are far more important 👍
Probably M340i X-Drive 👍
Or a second hand B9 RS4 Avant!? Prices on these are very attractive now!
Great review. It really is the only car you will ever need 🙂
Couldn't agree more!
I rented one in Germany for a week. Such a great car.
It really is!
Great review. For me 100k allows for a track/sunday car and daily more comfortable/economic vehicle. Which you’d be less worried about parking places and putting miles on/ using for tip runs/ runs with muddy bikes in the back of.
The Sunday vehicle can then be even more focused lotus Elise/exige/caterham/atom
Main downside is you don’t get the daily pose factor I guess.
Fair enough!
I’d love one but I’ll let the depreciation run out first. Good review, thanks.
I love hot wagons 🥰🥰🥰
Practicality when you need it. I prefer them in black, my wagon is a stealth machine especially in Welsh winters 🥰🥰
Nice 👌
I'm completely in agreement the prices are ridiculous! Dealers are now discounting up to 12k off list to shift stock with a dealer network discount applied beforehand! I have seen fully loaded cars at 105k reduced to 83k.
It's a nice car and all but if I was going to blow the best part of £100K on a car I'd be looking at an RS6 or a Panamera.
@@Nickbaldeagle02two very different cars then... The more comparable car is the RS4, which yes, is cheaper, but not as good. M5 touring is more comparable to the Panamera and RS6
Nice review Pete. I suspect they’ll be doing decent discounts on these in 2024. 220 mile or so range is a bit low.
I am sure they will 👍
Great job - really nice review. I think the follow-on you need to do is the RS6 Performance. Would be interested to hear your comparison.
Thanks! Will do!
Great content and great review of this BMW Rocket ship.🚀🔥👍
Thanks! 👍
Hello Sir, love the Black look right from the start.
It sounds a lot nicer than it looks (imo). Talk of an M3 reminds me of the E36 M3 saloon in avis blue - that would be my ultimate BMW.
😃 we have an old pooch that shakes when we take her to the groomers. Love the 3 ser estate but thinking of up sizing to an X
I just love the romance of hopefully before my life ends of driving down to South West France in my Ferrari Dino and ….. loving your work ❤
👍
I thought the Skoda Octavia VRS sounded quite good for a four cylinder turbo. IMO, this sounds really good for a modern turbo. Nobody makes a better inline six than BMW. I think I'd spec a 340i Touring.
Agreed. Stick an aftermarket pipe on it and it sounds ace 👍
I have reviewed an M340i before. Brilliant cars 👌
Great real world review. I currently have a 2022 Macan GTS which is a great all rounder but very tempted with the m3 touring. I do worry about depreciation as there seems to be a lot around and dealers are discounting to offload stock, give it a year or two and will be a £50 to £60 k car
Macan GTS would be my No.1 family car but the boss isn’t keen. She says it’s too flash 😂😂😂
Couldn’t resist it after your review, nice sapphire black, ultimate pack with m pro ceramics on drive next week 🤓
Lovely car , what’s the wading depth ? , I bet Tracy taking the defender this week to work , see the lavant s flooding down your road again. 👍👍👍
Yeah she’s been smashing through the floods in the Defender 😂
Epic motor, great Vid and is Mrs P going all Diva? Appearance fee! 😂😂
😂😂😂
Perfect allrounder !
Yep 👍
I'd love one, but went for the M340i Touring instead with a hefty discount courtesy of Tony Lewis. Roll on March 24!
You're going to love the 340i Touring. More than quick enough (for me). Had mine since February and honestly don't know what I'd ever replace it with
Don’t you mean Tony ‘The Legend’ Lewis 😜😂
@@PetrolPed The Man, the Myth, The Legend! It's my third car from him 🤦♂️ but wouldn't go anywhere else for a BMW now.
The tab in the middle of the load cover, if you pull it up it’s a net that clips into the roof, to stop the pooches coming into the cabin. 👍🏻
Every day is a school day 🙏🏻😂
A lot of comments have mentioned the M340i as an alternative to the M3 with good reason it's a good car, but there is a better one that has the same acceleration figures as the M3 but will do 190mph. Looks like a regular 3 series but has a snob value all off its own, and that's the Alpina B3..
Think the idea is to save a little money as well with the 340i? A b3 will set you back about the same as the m3?
No The B3 is about £8k cheaper spec for spec too. @@stu4181
As an alternative, there is the M340i X drive. It comes with 374 bhp. Starting from 61k, still a lot of money, but around 26k less than a base M3.
Yep. Brilliant car 👍
and you think the M3 is just a M340i with more power? Its a whole different beast aimed at a whole different market.
That was my long termer before the Defender. Only ran that car for 2 months 👍

Here you go 👍

My ideal car. Next step up from my current M340i Touring X-drive. Like you said, the price is the only downside…
You’ve probably already got the best all round car 👍
lol, love the fee bit. T is learning very well bless her 🤣🤣👍
Check you out and your split screen. Fancy.
😂😂😂
Fantastic car just that 100k is maddness, a 340 is more than you ever need on British roads
Yep 👍
What do you think a m5 competition or a m3 competition is better as a daily driver, you tested both cars ?
The M3 Touring is not that expensive compared to a new 5 Series if you stay sensible with the options. Personally I think the standard seats are perfect. I have them in my M340d, and I love them. Stear clear of the carbon pack, and you have a pretty decent kitted M3 Touring, for not so much more than the base price. Atleast here in Sweden, I almost think the M cars, are the cars with the most atractive prices in the BMW range. The new 5 Series looks almost silly in comparison.
Fair enough!
Carbon Packs are the curse of the egotistical.... Sure if you're a millionaire with money to burn, go wild, but if you're buying on finance, keep party tricks to a minimum...
Love it. I'll be the guy buying a two year old one!
Me too 👍
Afternoon PP
Was working last night
So only catching up
Love the look of M3 Touring but it has such a dull sound thanks to those annoying OPF’s
I’d still take an Alpina 3 or 5 Series Touring
Stunning motor!
Yes indeed!
The big problem with the M3 touring is the M340i touring. Hard to justify the extra expense of the the M3 when the M340i is such a great car and already way faster than you can really use on British roads
spot on
Yep. Good point 👍
good point, but when u have one, then u dont wanna have a 340i
The big problem for the M340i Touring is the M340d Touring.
@@beer77monsterwho cares about fuel consumption when you spend this amount of money?
Yes I know some SUV’s suit certain people but oh totally agree an estate over a SUV every time. BMW has nailed it, better than a RS6 maybe and the Audi has set the standard. A second hand two year old for £56k would be a good deal. I look at Cars as would my Mum get in and if not then n good. Plus I’m getting older probably similar age to yourself and climbing in and out that everyday😂 Yeah the comfort option seats would be getting ticked.
👍
Nice car bloody expensive , is it me or is your sound a bit on/off when you're outside the car ?
I went to the show room last week to see one and I'm now just waiting for my lottery numbers to come up so I can buy one! 3.9k to insure at a quick glance online for one second hand
👍
Lovely cars, ill have mine in grey with the orange interior please.
What’s with the ‘wagon’ - Loved and owned BMW’s for 40 years now, but find myself moving to Audi for my last two cars, as the interiors seem so much classier than the move to iPod style dashes and some questionable styling - although I love the 3 and 4 series exterior look, but not the interior so much…
😂😂😂
would be interested on knowing your thoughts about what you might gain or loose money/benefit by dropping down the 3 sereis touring range....a lot of what you like is surely available in lesser models..
M340i X-Drive would be my choice 👍
@@PetrolPed seems like a popular choice to judge by comments
What're your thoughts on the M3 (sedan sadly because I am in Canada) vs the RS5 as a daily? I've got some 2+ hour drives into the city for work every now and again, so don't want something that is overly stiff even with the suspension in "normal" or soft setting.
Would need to drive back to back. But feel says there isn’t much in it 👍
Hi I love a fast estate car ,I built a sierra cosworth estate F20YBT a few years ago and that was a rocket ship ,I also had a bmw m3 at the same time ,but as I've got older and our u.k laws have got a lot more anti motorist, the increase of 20 mph zones in built up areas average speed cameras everywhere and more dash cams than you can shake a stick at .unless you live in Germany and have constant access to the autobahn or the nurburgring I don't see the point anymore in super fast cars in the u.k .not saying I don't love fast cars ,it's our over controlling government and agency's that don't.
Yep 👍
Nice 👌
Small fuel tank not an issue?
Probably annoying on a really long journey 😬
