  • GLASS ONE: Old Fitzgerald 14 Year Bottled-in-Bond, 100 proof, $130-165 retail price ($400+ secondary pricing)
GLASS TWO: Larceny (Single Barrel Store Pick), 92 proof, $30 retail price
    *****************************************************************
We entered this pairing into our blind sample pool because they're the same mashbill (recipe)--Old Fitzgerald 14 being nearly twice the age and five times the retail price--to evaluate how they differ when we didn't know what we were tasting.
Old Fitzgerald's decanter series is released twice annually (spring and fall) and ages differ between 8-16 years. It is heavily allocated and highly sought after in most markets. Larceny is a readily available product normally released in large batches, however the bottle we tasted here is a single barrel selection by a store local to our market. Check your local liquor stores and inquire about "store picks" if you don't see them in your local market.

OUR OBJECTIVELY EXCELLENT SUBJECTIVE SCORING RUBRIC: We use common sense “thumbs up” scoring where one thumb equals one point, two thumbs up equals two points, and just okay is worth half a point in any given category.
Up to 10 overall points are available across 5 categories:
    • NOSE: Aroma
    • FLAVOR: Taste and overall flavor profile
    • EXPERIENCE: Overall experience on the palate
    • RETAIL SCORE: Price and availability
    • CONSUMER SCORE: Would we buy a product again or not
Nose + Flavor + Experience comprise Tasting Score.
We then add Tasting + Retail + Consumer Scores together to determine our overall Real World Score.

I've also heard good things about the Old Fitz 8 year spring 2021 release but haven't seen one. Been hoping to get my hands on that for the juice of course, but also because the decanter would be a perfect infinity bottle.

We hear ya. As much praise as it’s gotten, the thought to head to Heaven Hill has popped up. Once this OF14 is gone it’ll be on decanter duty.

I want a bottle of Old Fitz really bad, but I'm meh overall on wheaters, especially Larceny.

Yeah if wheaters aren’t your thing then there’s really no reason to bother unless an opportunity easily presents itself to snag one (which lets be honest-it almost never does). Certainly a lot of luck involved in this one landing in our lap.

Sam and the crew at Nashville Daily Spirits

Gotcha. I’ve got a Red Larceny pick that I don’t love. Sort of weak and lackluster

@@thesoozeTJ haven’t had that RED pick but have heard it’s nothing to write home about. So it goes with picks sometimes, as RED usually does a good job with picks.
