Appreciate your reviews! I managed to hunt down two 2019 Koks this last week one of which is the specific barrel 8 that you ranked over michter’s 20. Cant wait to open it this holiday season!

Always enjoy your reviews. A glimpse of comparative $$ and availability would be helpful. Being in VA, it's unlikely to find either.

Both are allocated. What's the max price you'd pay for either?

$199. Got two of the Old Fitz Spring release at that price. This one came out in my market (Nor Cal) on Wednesday at $499. That's it, I'm done with luxury bourbon. Back to Maker's Mark and the occasional Weller Special Reserve for a manhattan. Sipping the "good stuff" neat is now only for the wealthy. Pure BS.

Exact same pricing on both in SoCal too. Felt gut-punched when I saw OF at $5C. Don't know what Heaven Hill SRPs Old Fitz at but any bottle that is north of $1C has to be awfully special to earn a spot in my whiskey cabinet.
Starting to focus on store picks and smaller distilleries, as well as some rums. Like you, making the supply chain rich is getting really old...Really old.

In all fairness, I feel like most of the time, the higher proof stuff carries more character no matter what.

Picked up a bottle of the Spring release of Old Fitz in June for $199. CA pricing is BS but that was an ok deal to me. Great bottle... so I got a second. Now the 14 yr hits the shelf here at, $499. I'm also seeing some of the BT Antique line selling for $1800 and the Van Winkle stuff has yet to arrive. Bourbon has lost its mind and its relevance. The only people who drink this stuff now are the wealthy and channels like this. You may as well be reviewing moon rocks. And why do you guys insist on even mentioning SRP? Who sees this stuff for anywhere near that? Pure BS.

He needs water for the high proof whiskey. No way to cut through the alcohol for any kind of comparison with the lower proof bottle. The guy has more money than sense apparently. He did the same with the BTAC tastings, one after the other almost all over proof. I like his enthusiasm but he doesn't know what he's doing.

lol you're saying Fred Minnick is a noob? That's not going to be a very popular opinion.

That is not how you compare whiskeys... are you honestly saying all whiskeys should be watered down to the same proof every time you do a comparison? That's ridiculous. Whoever bottled the whiskey did so at that proof for a reason, whether it's barrel proof, batch proof, full proof, or a specific proof. That's the proof they're marketing the whiskey at, and did so because of its nose/palate/finish at that proof (as well as other reasons of course, marketing being one). Now obviously if the consumer wants to add water to bring the whiskey down to their desired proof they can, but if you want to compare whiskeys, you really should do it at its intended proof.
That and like, are you actually going to use an alcoholmeter every time you add water to ensure you have the same proof for both glasses? Cause without that it's very unlikely you add the right amount of water.
