    I'm an old fart, I guess, but if I can't find a whiskey at MSRP, there are too many other great options available for me to pay stupid money for one of these impossible-to-get bottles. I just ignore the secondary market.

    • @xiamengbaby
      @xiamengbaby 2 года назад +17

      Several years ago the Weller Special Reserve went for $17-18, the 12 year and Antique were mid-$20s. Now I just saw the SR going for $60. It was bottom or near bottom shelf whiskey and now it's a unicorn bottle. Really stupid!

    • @slbdrinks

      I agree with you 💯! At the beginning of my bourbon journey I overpaid on a few bottles. Didn’t take long to change those habits!

    Great video! Really enjoy videos like this where people provide their options to hard to find bottles so greatly appreciated since i'm someone who just goes to big retail stores like Total Wine and I can't seem to find many good local mom/pop liquor stores around me to form a relationship with, so I'll never see the sought after bottles. It would be fun if you could give alternatives to the BTAC line up one day too! Nice list. I agree with everything you said, about the Weller and how hard it is to find, and about this list. I have the Larceny, MM Cask Strength (and MM46 Cask Strength) and Wilderness Trail yellow label. I have the Old Elk Wheat Whiskey, too, which is nice but pricey. Great video, thanks for posting it.

It’s a 107 proof and I’m hearing people call in the Antique 107 killer. Would love to see what you think about that.

    Not sure how far east it's distributed, but Wyoming Whisky Small Batch (68% Corn, 20% Wheat, 12% Malted Barley, $40 MSRP) is my preferred wheater out west. It's smooth at 88 proof, but has just enough personality from the high plains prairie wheat to make me want to keep coming back, especially at the price point. Really good, unique stuff.

    Long time viewer and OnlyDrams user (love it!). Curious if Souther Star is available near you. Popular here and the Paragon Cask Strength, in my opinion, gives Weller a run for its money. Sweet Wheater and is in the realm between an Antique 107 or Full Proof. It’s a double gold winner so not just my opinion and may be worth a try if you have not picked that one up to compare to Weller. Love what you do and you have really helped me pick some winners. Thank you.

    I'm almost 100% with you, Kurt, on those choices. Don't know what it is, but I CAN'T STAND Larceny...bought the 92 and the Full Proof...thought the nose was pretty good, but couldn't get past a funky wet straw taste in there...gave the bottles away, hoping someone would be able to appreciate them more than I did.
    Haven't tried any Wilderness Trail or Old Elk...WT is not available to me, but we have plenty of Old Elk here, albeit most offerings are quite spendy. Either way, heard good things abouth them & looking forward to trying them both.

    That Wilderness Trail BiB is very intriguing to me. I get a lot of pastry or bready notes off of it. I didn't think I would like that in a bourbon, but the fact that it's so different, and not off-putting, makes it one of my favorites on your list. For the record, I don't like Larceny. It grew on me as I drank it, but I chalk that up to acclimation. All of this said: I prefer the high-rye mash bills. But what makes bourbon great is its diversity within that 51% Corn window. Love your channel. Keep up the awesome content.

    I love the special reserve, even with the low proof, Larceny is a personal favorite too. Haven't tried the Old Elk but will put it on my list. I love your reviews, and blind tastings. The Sweet Sixteen was well done. My question is - why exactly do distilleries have their mash bills as undisclosed? It's not like we can distill it at home. Of the wheateds you showed Larceny is on my go to list.
