I think that's taking it too far but I do believe they need to be punished severely. People should generally get a second chance as everyone makes mistakes. I think going to jail for a month is about right and then undergo extensive training if he wants to work as a cop. I also think that:
      1. The Eastpointe cop who hired him and stated it wasn't his job to check the guy's background should be fired. That's incompetence. It shows he doesn't have the intelligence for the position.
      2. Every cop that stood by after the cop punched the victim should be suspended and demoted. This will send a message to the rest of the police force.
      3. Even though the cop resigned, he should be fired anyway so that it becomes a part of his permanent record.

@@morninglift1253 this situation, this officer should not be allowed to wear a uniform, badge or gun ever again. He is a danger to anyone in public he encounters. These officers are fully aware their actions are being recorded on body cams. Their conduct is intentional knowing their department would try to cover it up. Look at it like this, if you had a business and one of your employees was stealing from you, would you retrain that individual or fire them? I made my point!

Well as it said in the video, under Michigan law, this officer should not have been able to apply and be hired for another job until after an investigation was completed on his competency. That is if DPD had done what they were required to do. The commission that certifies officers in Michigan need to look into who at DPD failed to do their jobs and if there was any criminal intent on the part of DPD officers. There definitely needs to be sanctions put on DPD and the East Pointe Police Department for this egregious (possibly intentional) failure.

He not only committed battery, but he also committed a federal felony when he deprived his victim of rights under the color of law. The action of Roberts was much more serious than if a civilian had done the same thing. It needs to be treated that way and charged that way. Cops like Roberts are why civilians have so much distrust for the police. Officers like all those who were around Roberts when this happened are just as bad. They should have intervened and arrested him on the spot. That is the action required to gain back the trust of the public.

Moving bad cops to different precincts is a tried and true method that cops have used for years. Police in my area got into so much trouble over the stuff they pulled that our Governor had to step in and straighten things out. Police intimidating a woman trying to report an officer for sexually assaulting her to police destroying evidence of a fellow officer placing spy cameras in the women's locker room.

I can believe they didn’t know, they usually don’t know these kinds of things because they don’t care. I’m from Detroit, over 40, have loved traveling all my life and Michigan has the worst pigs I’ve found anywhere. Even the small country towns in Michigan have at least 1 terrorist pig, when I was young I lived in a country area of Michigan that only had 3 cops and everyone knew which one to watch out for. For any auditors that hope to go viral and get settlements, go to Warren Michigan. They’re the absolute worst Michigan has to offer, hearing them say get out or stay out of my city has been normal since I was a kid, I’ve been a witness and victim of their tyranny. Go to Fitzgerald high school and ask questions about their police encounters, you won’t believe most of the stories until they start to pile up and you notice the similarities. The only decent encounter I’ve ever had with a cop was in Windsor Canada, never had a good encounter in the states.

It’s a simple solution; Link cops Certification to any and all disciplinary actions.
A cop being investigated, his certification should automatically be placed in a suspended/hold status.
The cop cannot have his certification suspension lifted until the disciplinary action has been completely decided.
Ex: Cop does bad at department X. Cops certification is placed on a disciplinary suspension. The cop is ineligible to be hired at any law enforcement agency since his law enforcement certification is in a suspended state. If the cop quits deptX, and waits 10 years before applying to be a cop somewhere, his certification is still suspended since the disciplinary action was never resolved.
What’s the point of having law enforcement certification if it’s not used to monitor the behaviour of the cop?

When one officer gets on the brink of termination or an officer is about to be charged and fired then they’re always transferring the officer to another location in the United States in order to avoid media scrutiny or prosecution for the officer. Las Vegas and Los Angeles are infamous for criminal cops/police officers committing crimes and then moving them to a different precinct so they can continue working as a police officer. SMH this is a threat against your constitutional rights and a threat to your life by the police union😮
