+TabbyAngel2 Awww, glad to hear. Hope happiness is on it's way. -Eric
+Kyde and Eric Thank you sooo much
Man I am catching these right as they come out lately. I had a bad week so that's a good thing.
+ikaruseijin01 Yay, good timing! -Eric
That 'sausage wrapping' is just the casing of the roe inside the fish, so it wasn't added, it's naturally made.
+kitty00009 Awesome. -Eric
SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!! Everyday I log on I cross my fingers for this video to be in my newsfeed and today my luck was with me! I love the videos that you two put out!!!!
+Ashley Gaulden Thursday night American time is always your best day to check! Enjoy! -Eric
I love you guys ! I just had to watch it, keep it up guys !
+Demon Huntress Thanks! Will do! -Eric
I love watching your videos. I always end up watching about 20 minutes and then leaving and then coming back 1 hour later and watch more. I just love watching your videos because I want to visit Japan.
+Hypic Yay! Thanks so much! -Eric
Hooray! Its finally here 💗🙌
Praise the RUclips gods, another Kyde and Eric video!
+ImmaTonTon
Thank you for the video!
+Ingsord You are welcome! -Eric
Terrific as always!
+Julie Goodwin Thanks! -Eric
The mystery meat that Eric said looks like a mushroom is a Tripe. A tripe is a cow's stomach lining. We use those in some of our cuisine(filipino), like in kare-kare(oxtail peanut butter stew). In Mexican cuisine they use it in menudo. The secret to making it good is to make it really tender. So in most cuisines, preparing it means boiling it for hours.
+touchmenot films Yea, maybe if it was soft it would be OK. But we didn't have hours to sit in that sauna and wait, haha. -Eric
I love these videos. All of your videos are great, but this one is one of my favorites. It looks like you guys had a pretty good time in Fukuoka! (All I could think sometimes was that Kyde sounds like Katniss Everdeen with her cold voice!)
+Kattywompus Haha, thanks! We loved it down there! -Eric
Recently discovered your channel while searching for Hokkaido videos. Subscribed. Love your channel. Trying to convince my wife to move to Japan (not succeeding!). Thanks for all the videos!
+Dr. Fig Videos Haha, awesome! Good luck with the wife! -Eric
when its 12am and you have school tomorrow but you decide to watch kyde and eric
Hahaha. We are bad influences. -E
THANKS GUYS FOR A GREAT FUN COOL VIDEOS CANT WAITE FOR THE NEXT AWSOME VIDEOS LUV U GUYS
+Ahmad Farhan Glad you enjoyed! -Eric
I don't think I have ever been this early! so many new adventures lately.
+Boston Babies We've been trying to get weekly videos up for a while now! -Eric
Thank you for uploading this - I enjoyed it very much!BTW, I think black seaweed = hijiki / Inari sushi's skin= aburaage, is actually deep dried tofu the fruit = amanatsu
+Sami Kozono Ahhh, thanks! Word of the day! -Eric
When I come to Japan next year I hope to hang out with you and Kyde
+Jack Newport Shoot us an email about a week before you arrive! -Eric
I love you guys so much, I can't even
+Marnix B I can't even either! -Eric
I don't get that. In Japan people hide under roofs when it's raining. People in America are like "Well..fuck it!" *Pokemon battle starts* RAIN USED SEVERE COLD! IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE! CRITICAL HIT! Random guy buying hot dog has fainted!
+Krazypenguingaming10 Bwaha..I keep reading this again and again and it makes me just chuckle XD
first time I hear Eric speak Japanese xD, you're pretty good! big difference than when I first started watching your videos a couple of years ago!
+StudioSambodia Hahaha, thanks. -Eric
I love you guys!
+colleen JAY Haha, thanks! -Eric
Oh you guys got the hx90v. You guys convinced me with your camera setup video. I picked up the hx60 because the hx50 was discontinued and the hx90 was $150usd more. I love this camera. I'm going to Tokyo in three weeks! Maybe we can see you guys there?
+CMBDIA Oh awesome, glad you got the hx60. Great series of cameras! -Eric
Love inari! My 'dessert' sushi is kampyo roll. Eel is a favorite as well. A good unagi bowl is a wonderful thing!
+Mark Swarthout I can agree with the inari, but everything else there scares me! Hahahaha. -Eric
Now at an airport waiting for flight, watching this. Love it!
Hope you make your flight! -E
Kyde and Eric yes, made it to the UK!
Dang Eric made Kyde lose her voice in the love hotel 😆🏩🇯🇵
Whatta wonderful adventure !
+Our Japão It was fun! -Eric
Welcome to my hometown ! Incredible fukuoka time !
+Baron Baron We loved it there! Thanks! -Eric
Ooooh man I LOVE unagi! Its my favorite type of sushi...closely followed by the spider roll. Have you ever had that before? That boat ride was GORGEOUS! Thanks for the beautiful video!! 💚💚
+Caitlin Veal Yea, spider rolls are on point! Never seen one in Japan, however. -Eric
I always feel the need to run to the many Japanese grocery stores and gather food to eat along with your videos!:D Kyde I hope you feel better sicky pants!
25:57 couple behind you...can't handle life. The heat is too much.
+TM Roxie Haha, yea it was brutal hot in there! -Eric
I believe that fruit is yuzu and also about the no hand drying implement thing, I believe that is very common for people to carry their own handkerchiefs, which are washed in your home washer, to dry their hands.
+Hannah Carter Sure, I do actually carry a little towel. But why do I have to? Hahahahaha. -Eric
Hhahaa loved your Luigi Impression S2
Oh man that dodgy restaurant looked fantastic, thanks for having the cojones to go and eat there so we can get a peek at these places, love it!
+romepaysoff Yea it was really a cool experience! -Eric
You guys are amazing, my girlfriend and I have been catching up with your adventures. We are hooked, your videos are brilliant.
+harriwan Awesome! Thanks! -Eric
Food place to food place to food place... this would be my ideal trip.
+VinnytotheK Yea, food is so fun! -Eric
Sorry you went to the island unprepared cuz there's some amazing gardens with mimosa on top of it. It's a wide volcano with a flat top, a bus takes you there from and to the ferry.
Hmmm can't decide whether to watch this Vlog or go to sleep?
i was missing a hartbeat when i saw how sparking clean was the toilet room in a trainstation somewhere (no city) kyushu - japan
+braileanul Hahaha, yea, its amazing how clean basically everything here is. -Eric
I am beyond jealous. I love both Inari and Unagi!! I would have no trouble paying to have a good portion of the Unagi, but with very little rice. I love the sauce that it usually comes with it. I especially like the skin if it is a bit crispy. Not a fan of mystery meat anything. Eric's train problem is why I always have part of a roll of Viva paper towels with me.
+TubaBuddha Haha, unagi is mystery meat!!! Scary! -Eric
My experience with innards is that it is less for taste than it is for texture. I love beef tongue and ear for this reason, but it helps that it usually comes spiced.
+crossout9 Haha, the texture wasn't winning me over -Eric
Unagi always reminds me of Ross from Friends 😄
yayy finally 😂🎉🎉
You guys make me want to travel
+Edwin B Do it! -Eric
Thanks again for a great video. I think the animal's head on the wall was a Jackalope.
Awesome video! When people get drunk, they usually do something wild or slightly dangerous, Eric just agrees to have awesome desserts with fruit, hella boss. Why isn't there any towels in bathrooms? Could that root be friend of burdock root? Also since winter is around the corner, have you guys planned another winter adventure? Any ideas where the next destination will be?
+LancerJak Haha, no idea why there are no ways to dry your hands, but it drives me nuts when I forget my own towel. We aren't 100% sure yet, but I think we will go to the Philippians this winter! -Eric
Inari is in a fried tofu pocket/skin. Mentaiko is cod roe in the sack that the fish grew it in. Gobo is a burdock root, to me it seemed like a fibrous, unsweet carrot.
Hey Eric & Kyde, was wondering if you could still remember where that Motsunabe restaurant is. Am heading to Fukuoka in September and would like to try this out as it looks really local and authentic.
Oh, I'm sorry, I really don't know. I looked at a map to try and spark my memory but came up blank. -E
Do they have restaurants where you can get freshly cooked eel? Those the very expensive restaurants you mentioned?
Do you think that staying at a love hotel is cheaper/better for shorter trips in Japan(e.g. 1-2 days)?
Great video by the way!
+Samuel Högström Svensson Yea, saves us a bit of money, plus it's an adventure! -Eric
Eric bro any chance of you doing a short video or adding it to the end of the next one about your tatts? Id love to know the meanings behind them. Also i know you're into punk rock and stuff, you should check out saw loser/the dirt radicals, my two cousins are in the band and they're pretty big in Japan. 🎌
+CouldntDecideAName1 Most of them are spacships. Mercury, Gemini and Apollo spaceships to be exact. I'll look up the band, thanks! -Eric
The dog who plays お父さん in the SoftBank commercials' name is カイ君.
+Mr.FuzzyPants1119 Haha, love him! -E
I have been watching both of you for a while now. I wonder how all the travel experience changed you personally. Do you think you see people and the world differently today? Have a great weekend!
+Dora Samo Good question, but kind of hard to answer. I'm not sure who I would be now without having traveled so it's hard to compare. I do think I see the good in people when possible, but I'd hope I would be that was with or without the travel. I think it's easy to understand different perspectives of things having seen so many different perspectives first hand. Also I find it silly to get upset about nearly anything after seeing some of the different things other people live with. I could discus this question for hours, haha. -Eric
Kyde, Eric the mentaiko you ate is really meant to be eaten with other food because it is salty. Also it is not a hot dog casing but the actual egg sack of the fish!
+Charles Shockley the mentaiko in pasta is of course just the cos roe but I was referring to the mentaiko which you buy in grocery stores which I usually see still in the egg sack which as you say is very thin. It is typically spicy and tastes salty to me?
The most common way to eat めんたいこ is to eat it with rice. I think many people put it in おにぎり too.
I really have no idea why but I think this video is very damn good!! I have no idea why. :) _Eric was cool as always._ I was really seeing him in a different light these days...even though I don't know him...Watching so many videos.Maybe that's what it is..
The moment when Eric was under the bridge and it was raining or when he was on that boat ride...not going to lie Loved that moment. I always wanted to ride on a boat ride like that...to me it seems like a samurai would be honored b4 going into battle would have a guy wearing a hat like that singing a peaceful japanese song...very old school. Feeling.
lol I laugh again. so many moments in this video!! Where I laugh!! the sake part was another gem moment!! And adding that flashback sequence..nice!!
I have seen many of your guys educational videos when discussing about the different kinds of foods and places you travel.
The different kinds of foods you two eat. Are very interesting. So Damn different..Those fish egg sausages were really different. I probably would try them...
== when watching Eric talk about food or his dislike for foods with no legs.. in about 19 mins into the video...when Kyde was discussing her thoughts on the eel....I don't know It just seemed like...a moment came over this video like....She was in real thought on what she was eating..vs when someone just eats..if that makes any sense...???
All in all this video was incredible!! laughing again that japanese girl in the background trying to cool down her body!! from the food being so hot!! lol ha ha!! If you can't handle the heat!! Get out the kitchen!! Is what a chef would say!!
Respect to eric again!! That sake!! Man!! I'm a big fan of sake!! I Swear i have so many sake bottles!!! mmm....sake is the one rice wine I drink..My wish is someone makes a sake out of Kings rice aka Black rice?????
+tyronep22 Hahaha, thanks dude, so glad you dug the video! Line by line feedback always makes me smile to read! -Eric
U the man E!!
softbank doggie's name is Jiro and those citrus fruit trees, I think, are nicorita summer orange. My wife and I went to sakurajima and saw trees with big fruit in them and the farmers put paper boxes around them. Still don't know what they were. Maybe mango?
Unagi is great, I intended to try some when I was visiting Japan and I did but I did it by accident one day.
I'm super picky with fish to the point that some folks think I hate it. But I don't like the gross frozen stinky (too old) fish crap that everyone here thinks is what fish is supposed to be. I want fresh fish with the lovely delicate flavours and cooked properly so it's not ruined.
One day I was wandering in the Akasaka/Aoyama area of Tokyo (making friends with kittens and Japanese photographers) and found a restaurant. I did the "point at the photo" method of ordering at the restaurant since I couldn't read the Japanese only menu.
Halfway through my meal I suddenly realized. *Oh!*... _this_ is unagi... I had already eaten one barbecued fillet and had two more left. I was surprised because it wasn't fishy in the slightest. I thought it was some sort of chicken thing except I realized the flesh came apart like fish and *bing* I knew what was going on.
I'd definitely have it again. It was really nice.
+ikaruseijin01 I'm still scared of it! -Eric
Kyde and Eric Well, I'm telling you, when you do try it, you'll like it. It's not at all what you expect it to be.
I LOVE all your videos you are such an awesome couple...I have been watching you for over a year now and can watch your videos over and over again. I was just wondering what population of Japan smokes?? I am from Canada and you cannot smoke anywhere it seems but I think I saw in one of your videos "1000 subscribers all you can drink" there is someone smoking right in the bar/restaurant. Is smoking allowed anywhere like train platforms, restaurants, malls, etc?? I don't smoke just wondering :) domo arigatou
yes you're allowed to smoke at restaurants in Japan. went there last year and had to sit next to some smokers, which was unpleasant.
+shannonflh H Yea, smoking is still pretty prevalent in restaurants in Japan. Oddly enough its quite frowned upon in the streets, however. In malls and train platforms it is forbidden. -Eric
this gum is for kuchi-naoshi, many Yakiniku restaurant give us it to refresh one's palate
+Kofu bonbon WHich is totally necessary after that meal, hahahah. -Eric
The eel story would be good in a highlight
Flipperty-gibbit!! That restaurant looked so low-key
Your Motsunabe wasn't done right if the tripe is chewy, it should be soft after pre boiling. There is a super famous place in Fukuyama but you need a reservation. But they are famous for their garlic broth so you will stink when you leave.
Also that escalator from the shrine takes to directly to Canal City Shopping Plaza...
Have you guys been effected by the evacuation or bad weather in Tokyo this week?
+Michael Bidstrup No, but it won't stop raining. Haha. -Eric
By the way the the little strawberry flavored thing you ate after your Meal with Mystery Meat, Felix is a very famous Gum. In fact check out something called Fusion Gum. Its very famous in South East Asian Countries. By the way how are you guys, I haven't commented or chatted with you randomly that I use to with you guys before.
Kyde! hope your inline messaging issue was solved.
+aaditya shah Haha, yea, Felix is actually a super famous character in America that I totally forgot about after the sake. When I watched the video back I was really confused that I didn't know him when we shot the video. Haha, derp! -Eric
"...It looks like you SHOULDN'T eat food in that building - which means you SHOULD eat food in that building"
+ozdoits Hahaha, we live by that theory! -Eric
You guys are amazing! I love your descriptions of foods. If you knew the animals that were really in the soup would you have consumed it ??? God knows what you've eaten in the other countries you've visited . Stay well guys. Eric please shave your neck lol!!!
+haleroma719 My beard is all in or all off, nowhere in between! -Eric
great video as always.
hey guys how are you?i read severe floods hit japan.
+Kira Kira The floods didn't effect us at all, thankfully! -Eric
16:25 "fruit".. I have never thought that way XD
I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to eat mentaiko like that XD, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be mixed with rice or pasta or something not 100% sure though. Anyway Kyde and Eric if you are reading this, what's the meaning of the channels original name "Kepsux"?
+SuperUltraRollingBomberThunderCorporation My old band was called Kamikaze Escape Plan and my web handle was KePSuX as a joke, basically. -Eric
+Kyde and Eric haha, that's pretty funny
Unagi is amazing lol..or at least in the states with the barbecue-type sauce! Lol
+duffman102 Haha, BBQ sauce? Really? -Eric
+Kyde and Eric With my experience, I love having it with more of a teriyaki sauce.
I guess you haven't been to Shikoku yet. ---- I just wonder if you want to try Shikoku Pilgrimage some day. If you walk entirely it takes 42 days for 1200km route so it is difficult for people who work for companies. But you don't have to do it all at once. Some people do only a part of it (and continue the rest some days in the future). ---- If you do up to temple 12 it will be for three days. They say from temple 11 to 12 is one of the toughest. You have to continue up and down walking 6-7 hours in the mountain. It is very challenging. ---- Or since many people start from temple 1, so just skip the first prefecture and just do it the Kochi prefecture section. That is the most challenging prefecture. ---- Why I talk about it? Because you two look so tough and healthy.
+Amil Sasah Many people have mentioned this journey to us. I'D love to do it, but I'm not sure we would be able to set aside that much time, but it sounds amazing. -Eric
Man, that business of being locked in a room is crazy on so many levels! What if there's a fire or a medical emergency?!
i think one of those sinks in that crazy bathroom is a ball washing station?
+Rodney Routt Hahahaha, like at a golf course? -Eric
hahaha not quite, not quite
inari zushi is rsweet fried tofu sushi , they called it inari because the offerings to the rice goddess inari are fried tofu.
WOOOO!!!! Finally guys! "Hello"...."HEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP"..lol
In the UK we have jellied eels and they are horrible they have weird tiny bones in them and in London they make eel pie with mash potato.
+nicksynet Sounds dreadful! -Eric
The mentaiko is the intact egg sac taken out of the fish.
+nicole medina Yum! -Kyde
Futuristic restrooms would be awesome
how have i never noticed his tattoos before...
+jwolfe769 I dunno, I noticed them a long time ago. -Eric
I feel like you need to come out with some t-shirts that read "TIFFANY", "Thats on point!" or "Wash your bits/ Dry your bits" lol
+AnimeStarwind Hahahahahhaa. -Eric
Don't forget about "I forgot to put the cheese on mine", the tea that tea would drink, "im a housewife!" With Eric's face on it, Crushed Nutsu, GOCHAMP, I could get down on this, and best of all, "I don't eat mayonnaise"
such a good "that's what she said" :-D
I think you guys were eating cow stomach because there's a Mexican dish that uses cow stomach and it looks like it also it's really chewy and they serve it in a spicy broth. I like it. I forgot the name of the dish though. =\
+positiveguy123 Haha, maybe! -Eric
40:38 Could it be a yuzu? I thought their harvesting period was December to February though. Or it could be a bitter orange, also known as a Daidai... but those too are supposed to be in season in winter.
I swear man, you know everything about everything.
I dunno about that, but I try to be well read about stuff. I figure the goal in life is to try to learn as much as we can.
I have a bachelor's degree in Biology, and I specialized in plants so I know a bit more than normal when it comes to plant topics.
+ikaruseijin01 that first part made me so inspired to go do something which I may or may not do, but now that I think about it lots of the questions you answered were biology related. You seem like a well cultured and smart human being.
+SuperUltraRollingBomberThunderCorporation Thank you, I appreciate it. The compliment comes at a good time since I have felt rather useless of late. There's lots more to it than that, but that's how I feel about it, so it's nice to get a compliment.
+ikaruseijin01 Yea, I don't think they are in season, and I think they seemed a bit big to be a yuzu. It's a mystery! I should have asked! Doh! -Eric
Is the video messed up around 48:30, or is it just me?
+VinnytotheK Seemed OK on my side. -Eric
Alright, just checking thanks, the sound was off for me when I first watched it.
Rewatching it I see that it's fine though!
Damn somebody already mentioned Jackalopes, lol.
You usually eat the fish eggs on rice like furikake i'm pretty sure
Now I got the Jones for anything wasabi .Damn I should know better .Ive watched a lot of your vids and ran out for food .Now its too late ,places closed .man ,you guys always get me hungry .Pavlov effect hahahahaha
+eliisadick1 Haha, gotta keep some wasabi on hand! -Eric
Innards are for feeding my dawgs dude !
That toilet with a small sink and shower is for the disabled who, for example, had a surgery for cancer and got an artificial anus in the body. This kind of person has a hard time using a regular type of toilet and it is more convenient to use a toilet located in a higher position than to use a regular toilet, since he might have a little bag to contain body wastes from the body at his stomach position. nursingcenter.com/JournalArticle?Article_ID=2638621
+Hirofumi Natsui I saw that too when he mentioned the ostomate toilet. I hope no one washes their hands there!
+Hirofumi Natsui Ahhh, that'S wonderful. I still don't understand why there isn't a way to dry your hands. Hahahah. -Eric
did the meat you eat around 28:00... you say its like not meat like do you mean like pig skin? I'm unsure if you've ate pig skin in like a soup but its mooshy and squishy?
+KOSAMA GAMES (コドバリノ) It's called motsu. It's like intestines and stuff, gnarly meat. The stuff people in America usually throw away. Hahaha. -E
Kyde and Eric You sounded like Hank Hill right there lol
Hey guys !!! Good on you for trying Eric at least u can say hey that was good or I will never try that one again !!!! 👍🏼 I bet the sake was good !!!!!
+astroboy3507 The sake was the least scary part for sure! -Eric
btw "Raiden hat"... I know exactly what you mean but it always bothered me that I don't know a proper term for this... apparently if you look it up wikipedia just calls it an "Asian conical hat" and gives various regional names, including "sugegasa" in Japanese.
+Joe Blow Haha, it can just be a raiden hat. Screw it. -Eric
Kyde and Eric ok I'm down with that... :P
MORTAL KOOOOOOOOMBAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
48:05 for anyone who was curious as I was with the mysteries surrounding the inside of this restaurant
tabelog.com/en/fukuoka/A4001/A400102/40000027/dtlphotolst/3/?smp=s
The Softbank dog's name is Otosan.
+coconutpanda Haha, yes! We actually looked it up right after she mentioned it in the video. -Eric
RESPECT!!! Love that you dove into that soup despite the fear! Hells yea hahaha
Rare people eat Mentaiko in the street......Please eat it at home after cut into bite-sized pieces.
And if you really want to taste Unagi, please eat it in Kabayaki style at specialty shop at any cost.
By the way, did Kyde catch cold ?
+mop09drg Haha, we know it was weird, but she wanted to try it and we were quite a long way from home. Yea, she had a cold. -Eric
+mop09drg
Unagi is expensive, and while I'm generalizing, most westerners don't want to pay that much money for a meal, even if it's super fancy, unless it's to celebrate something very big. So in my experience, people from the USA and Canada would only have a meal that expensive if they were celebrating an anniversary, or New Years, or Valentines Day.
If not, then we make a very big deal out of the event, treat it as an important occasion to share with someone.
I'm pretty sure Kyde and Eric wanted to save their money so they could do more fun stuff in Fukuoka, because I think having one big fun trip was more important than sitting down for one super special meal.
+marklenthecool Yea I agree with you :)
But It is not so ridiculously expensive. I hope you also try to eat it !
My friend calls me Tiffany the destroyer of worlds lol
33:48 It looks like a 800 kcal dessert meal (after the dinner). lol
