TOTP made every artist mime to their own music. This is just the album version playing. What a shame because Oasis were so tight and always a great energetic live act.
They were too polite back then to mock the thing, trying to play the act for the best here (which means fooling a good part of the audience). If you look up "Roll With It Top of the Pops 95" you can see Noel and Liam trading mike and guitar for the miming, no more fooling anyone (or VERY few people :).
Oasis were an exceptionally good band live in the 90s. But even with my favourite bands (AC/DC), I admit nothing is ever as supreme as the studio sound. I can count on one hand records which sound better live than studio version.
I feel regardless of whether or not you like their music, the latter is one thing you cant deny about Oasis. Liam is just a natural born rock frontman. Fits that role so well.
I was 22 years old, working and living in the west end of London, skint, living from pay day to pay day, and loving life, when this show was aired and played this superb tune. What great times.
I was only 11 and would give anything to go back at my age now haha. Oasis were my fave, learned all their songs on guitar and still play them from time to time..
I was only 5/6 and it was just a hell of a time to be alive. My parents bought the cassette later on in the year and Oasis was my first band poster. Those were great days. Basically everything pre-9/11 was fantastic.

Bonehead making sure that whitey gets the drums in on cue if you watch closely. He actually holds his plectrum in the air then drops his hands to when Alan should come in. If anyone didn’t know this was Alan’s first live performance with the band & only got told 3 days before he’s gone to be performing on top of the pops in 3 days by Noel!!! Some baptism of fire. TOTP wants them to appear on the show celebrating their chart positions. Playing live is something the bands want. BBC wants just a good musical product. And the bands like the exposition. Roger Taylor from Queen said that. They played Seven Seas of Rhye in the weather studio in 1974
@@AndreVlaamsValle actually at this time bands were allowed to perform live. It was a classic era for live britpop top of the pops performances. For whatever reason this group always chose to mime

Their first Number 1 hit. It was about 5 months before the album hit, and already a ton of hype was generated. Spectacular time to be alive!!
Yes it was ✌🏻
Agreed!
Bring back the 90s
I am from Newcastle and moved to Manchester university as an 18 year old in 1995....oh my god, could there ever have been a better decision to make!
Their greatest ever single methinks. The sound of 90's optimism distilled.
Greatest ever 90s single*. This distinction must always be made. A lot happened before and since - and there is better on both sides of the 90s.
