- The COMPLETE 6 and a half minute performance of D'You Know What I Mean on Top of the Pops (TOTP) in July 1997, a practice that hardly ever occured, complete with stage invasion at the end.

Guigsy is such an excellent bass player that he change basses during a performance and you still hear him playing

Also, must be said that they are performing to the album recording. TOTP doesn't allow live performances. No wonder the bass keeps thumping along.

I have the 'fuller' version on a bootleg DVD set and it's quite funny as where this one cuts off, as Noel drags more girls up and has a good time, Liam is (I think) stood at the back looking unimpressed, and clearly mouths 'nobhead' at him. Probably why it cuts off where it does. Cheers BBC..

@@sempereadem1543 I got this huge bootleg cd selection with at least one cd for every year from 1994 to mid 2000s, when I bought it off eBay. Featured what must be all their early interviews and TV stuff, very comprehensive! Some good foreign festivals on 2000 tour. Cheers

This particular show (top of the pops) forced artists to lipsync to the album track...Kurt Cobain from Nirvana did something really funny though, search for Nirvana Top of the Pops -- it's pretty hilarious.

Tell you what I love about this performance and it stands a lot of the common misconceptions about Liam on it's head. See him give the tambourine (quite deliberately) to the girl in the front row at 0.54?
She's not the most beautiful girl within his reach (I'm not being unkind) but he picked her to give his tambourine to. The look on her face and the joy it gave her is plain to see, it made her day, probably her whole year.
I'm sure everyone expects the star to give something to the stunning girl, but not so in this case, she's just an ordinary girl who clearly loves the band. I have a lot of respect for what he did here, you may see it differently but I think it shows that Liam really is a man of his fans and he really means it, ALL his people right here right now.. j'know what I mean?

Totp WAS the only music show to watch for many years, Everybody knew it was miming, but they did live shows to co-incide with Radio 1 in the late 80's, Used to turn the volume up and record onto a cassette. Yeah, I know boring story. :-)
