- The Gallagher brothers perform a song from their album "Definitely Maybe."
Fan Request:
"In honor of the Gallagher brothers bringing Oasis back for the first time since the 2000s AND the 30th anniversary of their first album "Definitely Maybe" being this week, can you please upload the clip of them playing their hit song "Live Forever" from the Late Night with David Letterman show?
It would have been about March of 1995. I remember taping it at the time because Oasis were starting to blow up and have that song played on the radio a lot. It was their first ever appearance on American television.
Not quite Ed Sullivan on the Beatles, but it was a damn fine performance of a damn fine tune!"

Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. And for those of you who like Miscellaneous, you may very well find some Miscellaneous here.
Unlike many videos posted to the Letterman channel...this isn't commemorating a death....it's commemorating a REBIRTH! 👍🏻🎸
I'll believe it when I see it. It's a LONG time between now and July 2025 when you're dealing with two volatile personalities.
they still clout chasing
@@sapphirelatinawho cares this is basically the Beatles reuniting for people in the uk and Ireland oasis are bigger than god in those parts
@@sapphirelatina oasis is arguably the biggest active rock band (maybe even band in general) right now
I work as a server in a tourist town, and got the news in the morning on the way to work. I got to ask an Irish Table AND a North Hamptoner Table if they'd heard about the reunion. They both said yes and the Dubliners said theyve already got the money stowed away for tickets! 😂🤟
This is the real oasis. Two brothers and their mates from the same estate.
Sooo two dude who can't sing and a bunch of others who can bearly play instruments?
A REAL reunion tour would be Liam, Noel, Bonehead, Guigs and TONY.
@@deadseagull-xf3lk I wonder if Bonehead can make it with the cancer and all
@@detectivejohngimblehe’s cancer free now, confirmed to be on the tour.
@@deadseagull-xf3lk Tony had a heart attack he’s supposed to be okay now
and no one’s seen Guigs Bonehead is back. I know what you mean the band wasn’t the same with Gem and Andy
So good to see them back. Been a fan since 1995.
The Letterman team was cooking up with the timing of this release
Liam has always been such a character. I don't think I have ever seen a singer sit down while the guitarist peels off a solo on Letterman.
Love how Dave pokes fun at Liam for that at the end of the video. 😂
that was some wicked tambourine though…
😂😂 Liam iss Fun! And Noel Brillant writer and really good guitare player. All. They have ALL!!
Gum and chairs for our Liam...
Well, Michael Stipe sat out of an interview when Letterman walked over to interview R.E.M. Not the same but this made me think of that.
Great Live verson. Crunchy sounding guitars, solid drumming, good harmonies , and Liam is in top form! And Noel taking over the falsetto part. Brilliant!
Those guitars sound HUGEE
And loud!! When it sounds loud on a video you know it's ear piercing in the room... Mark coyle was going deaf, worked well though
Yeah, shoegaze heritage!
It's like a shockwave that hits you when you see them live. Awesome
It was a good era for Les Paul's
That's Bonehead's signature huge sound.
I remember seeing this on the show. I stayed up late and then taped it on VHS. 🤣 I was blown away! I had never seen a new band this amazing before! I became a fan in the 90s and 30 years later, they still remain my favorite band. So happy they’re back!!
I never thought they would get back together. I remember buying this CD when I was stationed in England. I listened to it all the time while on flights. I know which song is next and all the lyrics to this day.
Any American who knows Digsy's Diner is an honorary Englishman!
Good day Sir!
@@interstellarbeatteller9306 oh what life would be if you could come to mine for tea I'll pick you up and half past three we'll have lasagna preceded by Cigarettes and Alcohol and followed by Slide Away. In Utero was another I played a lot on those long flights alone to Bosnia.

always amazed how such a tiny island produces such a myriad of arts
i was thinking about this the other day too. they have quantity and quality. it's staggering.
@@membersonlydave it's cold and wet and there's f all to do. Leads to more introspection , the original "British invasion" bands though embraced American blues before they were ever mainstream in the US. @@FactCheckingCuz they never really got big in the US... I don't think they've ever even headlined an arena in the states.
@@thewedge8823 They had three platinum albums in the US.
@@PriorityDonk Sadly that didn't reflect on their concert attendance in the US
we can't miss a memory of the legendary Tony McCarroll... he was there🥁🥁

They called his drumming skills basic. That's definitely maybe to me!

Too much ride cymbal ffs
I told a friend of mine that I’ve been listening to oasis again lately. He said, “ I’m sorry”. I said ,” goodbye”
Dear god, an actual live performance without miming or autotune!
Them were the days...
Beautiful aint it....
LOL I just came off the Wings of Pegasus channel and clicked on this suggested video as I just wanted to hear a real band play live. So refreshing to hear live vocals, makes you actually appreciate the work they put in.
You gotta watch more current late night rock performances.
“Those days” still exist today. Just because rock music isn’t mainstream anymore doesn’t mean there’s no more rock bands out there. Because there are.
Incredible. Takes me straight back to 1995!
Great clip, classic song and classic album, thanks to Letterman for publish this on such an important day for Oasis fans all over the globe. Cheers from Mexico
Oasis performing Don’t Go Away on Letterman is how I got into the band
Such a good performance and underrated song
Check out the SNL performance they did of that song... it's my favorite.
It's a very sad sad song
That was a great performance...I believe when Dave walked over to the band afterwards, he said "do you boys want to fight?".
What was it like, in the band?
the classic line up
the best line-up that looks like it will never be put back together again... noel n liam leaving behind their mates from Manchester for the hijackers from elsewhere
When they had a decent drummer
@@CatPiss-ls4zb Alan was the best drummer they've had. Tony was mediocre at best.
@@diegopeart In this clip though he was the most animated member of the band. Live they sounded great but looked like they were dull as dishwater.
@@diegopeart Alan was worlds better than tony, it makes sense why tony was sacked as well, but Alan butchered quite literally every song DM song you could think of.
Dave Grohl: "Oasis is the greatest rock band in the world. They just stand there... it is not like they're bouncing on stage" 😂
That’s one thing I liked about them. They let the song and the music do the work. Great songs too. And not over produced.
Great songs but not worth it to pay what they want to see live this time because of the show.
Yeah 368.00 fir nose bleeds is insane e@skoal91
@@skoal91I agree. They're only playing at stadiums. If they were playing at smaller venues, then the money might be worth it.
Shoegaze style!
they sounds MASSIVE here !!!
Nah, the bass is nowhere to be heard. Bad sound setup, guitars far too loud.
one of the greatest songs to come out of the uk. what a band. cant wait
Man, I miss these days. The world seemed so much simpler, it is hard to overstate how much the mobile phone and internet changed our cultures forever
You are so right.
the electricity of live performance was such a magical thing
You're right . . . So sad . .
Work in the tech industry... Couldn't agree more
I feel the same way. We've become our parents lamenting for the good ol' days
Open strummed guitars with heavy metal distortion. Love it.
I forget how good they were live. Noel looks like he learned to play guitar a month ago 😂 but he is perfect with his playing. Never sounds sloppy. Liam is just ridiculous when he's on fire!!
Welcome back, Lads! It's been far too long. The world could sure use a real Rock 'n' Roll Band these days.
MAN yeah!....I really hope they came up with new music as well
The best! Nice to see original line up in a high quality definition upload also.
Best version of live forever I've ever heard is gleneagles Scotland... Liam vocals better than this...
Honestly Tony sounds terrific here, maybe not the most technical but it's simple and it works. So great to see him on Letterman
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tony hit those drums harder than Alan. Even their producer said Tony had perfect tempo and hit them just hard enough. He just couldn't evolve fast enough to keep up with Noel's writing.
They are back baby!
Who cares.

Great version. Always liked it. And Dave’s bit at the end of the video was hilarious 😂
man I remember being in london in 95 and every store I came in there was this playing or a blur song. I also remember reading in the plane to new york a British music magazine (IIRC Q magazine) and they were only talking about oasis or blur with a bit of stone roses on the side. Fantastic times
In _one year_ they went from unsigned nobodies to David Letterman. Insane times. Best years of my life.
Yeah it was such a great album of songs and sound, they got thrusted into it fast.
iconic then. iconic now.
Faster than an old show looking for Oasis footage today
Watched (and recorded it on VHS) this live when it aired. I always remembered his joke when they came back from commercial, but I didn't hit record. I'm glad that you did!
Thanks to the man running this channel always posting newsworthy items. These guys are gonna make £500m touring the UK and more if they tour the world. It’s like the Beatles reuniting. If they can keep from killing each other hopefully haha
LMAO Letterman’s funnies after the performance about Liam sitting down during the song and how loud the performance was. Damn Dave, you’re missed on late night tv! 😂😂😂🙌🏼👏🏼😅😎
Very catchy song!
I figured Oasis reunited because of two old clips via Graham Norton.
0:43 The transition 👌
Amazing don't remember ever seeing this! It would be great to see Oasis - Don't Go Away (Letterman Thursday October 09th, 1997) again that one was amazing.
Letterman comments at the end are hilarious. And, they blew the roof off the place.
Both damon and this dude have such special rings in there vocal strings
Tony, Although not the Best Drummer, Certainly Legendary
Thank you Blur you made Oasis reunite!
It was Noel's 20 million pound divorce that got them back together. So you should be saying thank you to Sarah Mcdonald. His ex wife!
Hold onto your parka, Oasis fans! The band is back, and ‘Live Forever’ is the ultimate anthem for their grand return. I’m ready for a nostalgia overload, epic sing-alongs, and probably some classic Gallagher banter. It’s going to be legendary-just hope they remember the lyrics and each other’s names!
love how album Liam and stage Liam sound like two completely different guys
this was during the time his voice started to grow into his signature rasp. still is weird hearing him sound like this with tony on drums lol.
It's crazy how Liam had a different voice every year in the 90's.
More wear and tear on tour than on the albums.
This band is gonna "Live Forever"
3:21 iconic original line up shot
I was 17 when this aired. I stayed up to tape it off tv.
I can’t believe they are back! And I have my tickets already thanks to Scottish Rugby Hospitality. See you at Murrayfield, down the front!
This is beyond good..The band is so loud--I don't know how Liam manages to sing over the music
i gave Miami Oasis in 95. Passed around tapes of this album to nightclubs, and bars, colleges.
Liam's tambourine was always such a cool part of the Oasis sound. Look forward to hearing that again.
that was quick. Oasis announced their reunion tour this morning
Dave letterman is on the cutting edge......his next guest is Norm macdonald you know
Saw it a mile off did our Dave.
Actually pretty long in internet terms
Fantastic! Thank you! Does anybody else miss the two postings daily? Now it is only one posting. I am officially throwing a tantrum! More Dave, not less Dave!

As with so many of these postings, this is how I discovered the reunion was a thing.
LOVE the hi quality on this vid! Thanks!
This is pure sound.. Great..
This the only lineup I’m expecting on reunion
I think the Letterman show should air ONE MORE special episode featuring this band from Manchester. Just one more!!🇬🇧👍🏼😎🤩
best drummer
the only band to stand still and still captivate your soul.
Wouldn’t say only but damn yeah they do
This song is so amazing
" 'CAUSE I JUST WANNA FLY !!"
Always love to see one of my all time favorite bands with the greatest entertainer in the biz … so happy for this reunion…. Maybe Dave can do another show and have them on … just a thought.
I'm beyond excited for next summer! Gotta get tickets first.
Dreams do come true
My favorite performance of Oasis on Letterman has to be their 3rd performance. They performed “Don’t Go Away” live in October of 1997. It’s not only my favorite Letterman performance, but my favorite live performance ever from the band. It would be a dream to see that live performance remastered and uploaded from the Letterman channel. It’s hard to find it nowadays on RUclips.
Everything about this performance sums up how Rock & Roll is delivered. LG sitting down half way through 😉
I always liked how he sat down because he had nothing else to do for the song in those moments. He wasn't trying to engage the crowd, which paradoxically made me like him more.
They were killing it back then!
Oooo. Such an exciting band!
I was reminiscing about this appearance yesterday and I remember Liam sitting down during Noel's guitar solo. And Dave saying maybe he was tired from the transatlantic flight. This was the first time I ever saw them and I remember my coworker who was a teenager doing summer work told me Liam and Noel didn't care for each other. The things I remember 😂
Waw..., Still.....OASIS....With JBL headphones now it' s just Incredible...And they were so Young.....They already understood EVERYTHING 💜💜💫 I was already a Big Fan young also
Found Marshall Headphone now here in Brittany: Really better! Yesss! JBL out🔙❌️. Anyway Marshall will stay the Best to listen Rock.
Best band in the world then and now
Please! 1 good album and gone forever!!!
@@michaelchamp3093Could not disagree more.
@@michaelchamp3093One good album 😂 For a non fan you should at least say 2. Their first 2 albums compete with ANY bands first two.
Oasis will live forever 🔥🤟🩵💙
0:24 R-kid and Noel's guitar are sound massive!
Oasis is life!
Oasis and Dave!? Wow! That's very huge!
I remember reading an article years back where a fan from The US and a fan from The UK were both asked what the best & worst thing about Oasis was. The person from The US said the worst thing was that when they play live, 'they just stand there.' The person from The UK said the best thing was that when they play live, 'they just stand there.' There's something in that that beautifully sums up the difference between the two countries for me!
Haha. You have to look up what Dave Grohl think of Oasis. It's a similar response. 😂
And whats the other response of the question? The best in USA 🇺🇸 the worst in uk 🇬🇧???
@therotiv4 No idea sorry. It was a long time ago and those answers stood out to me.
I mean Nirvana did exactly the same, hardly moved. But i do rather love Axl and Slash running around the stage for GN'R.
Two people can have you form an opinion about two countries?
I can't wait to see them next year!
2024 post here by a 55 year old and old time Oasis fan: They didn't give a F and they were not Brit Pop, they were a fookin rock band and they made sure you know if you came at them. F'kin legends the lads.
Their voices sound amazing together
I can't believe they are reformed. Mad fer it!!!
This is awesome. 2025 is looking great already
I love these old clips of the Ed Sullivan Show.
Wow this was just 2 months before Tony left!!! It was a transitional phase indeed. Man I love early Oasis!
Noel extending the guitar solo 1 more full round really does something great to the middle of this song...this song is sooo 90s
It's not extended, its the same amount as the recording. Same amount of bars.....
This is the one song I favour Noel singing acoustic it really suits his voice.
Great tony mec Carol !❤
All hail the lads from Manchester: welcome back!!
YES DEFENETY I LOVE OASIS HERE BRASIL COOL 🆒 🇧🇷 😎 👌 WONDERFOUL 🎸 🎼 📻. 🎶
I really hope Bonehead joins them on their tour. He was the glue of their live sound with those huge power chords.
agreed. him and alan white on drums. i know it's likely guigsy might not return. hopefully, they can get an amazing bass player and keyboardist to join them.
