@katheyleen I do not have any regrets:) During my healing process, which went very good, I never once though "this is not worth it". You will heal relatively quickly, what is one month of reduced health, when you get a perfect bite that will last your whole life!
My advice is: stay positive and get a blender!
I have probably one of the worst cases ever. Sadly I don't think I will ever have the money to fix it. A lot of my insecurities come from my huge underbite. I guess that's life. Congrats to all of you who got it fixed. I know what it feels to talk or eat when you have an underbite.

I've seen a lot of people get this surgery and you have the least amount of swelling I've ever seen! Did the surgeon every say why that was?

I'm 18 now with braces. My double jaw surgery is still in a couple of years because my teeth are just so messy lol. but I really hope my results turn out as good as yours!!

Omg i cried when it came to the bit where your braces finally came off. I'm 27years and I'm finally getting braces next week and having jaw surgery at some point too. The whole thing and process is scaring me to the point i feel like backing out. But seeing how happy you are with your new teeth pushes me on to go through this and finally get better teeth and a nicer smile. Thank you.

Congratulations. All ppl with an underbite knows that irritating feeling of wanting to get it fixed. I for one have not fixed my underbite & I probably wont every fix it. I got that fuck it mentality at this point & age 29. But its cool to see the transformation from underbite to normal. Now you can smile without feeling shame. :D haha

Your jaw was about the closest to my jaw that I could find on the internet! My surgery was 3 months ago and I am beyond happy I did this surgery. This video always gave me so much hope!
I have been shadowing for an orthodontic...not many patient aren't willing to do the op. because of being scared or financial ...what you have done! you are so BRAVE!!! It totally worth it. it is a long term investment.... Under bites and over bites can caused serious health issue in a long run. You are so brave! you smile is perfect! smile more and show off those pretty teeth!
I remember my jaw surgery it took a whopping 8 hours in theatre as they had to re align my whole face but glad to have it done as before I was cruelly bullied and called horrible names.its strange that u still expect people to look and stare.but a massive up yours to them all as I'm now braver and happier now.thank you to my surgeon this procedure can dramatically change your life for the better.good luck you guys who are having jaw surgery just think how more beautiful and confident you will be afterwards.must admit it is uncomfortable but they won't leave you in pain.its just the numbness and not eating properly for a couple of months.and the swelling goes down after a week or so.god bless you all xxxxx
I'm starting the process of my jaw surgery this autumn! They're gonna move my upper jaw a bit forward and my lowe jaw backwards. I'm sooo nervous for the surgery! Yours turned out very very well! You look amazing :)

I get called names for my underbite, hooky jaw, stop dropping ya lip, fishy, trout. but I'm 37 and there work mates its all good and they get back as much as I get. we are good mates. however my school years were bad :( but at 37 I'm grown to accept that's what makes me ME. And I have no problems talking eating ect so I'm happy to leave it the way it is :) plenty of people way worse off.

That's quite a difference. Congrats on the new jaw...looks great!
It may not seem like it, but it is actually a relatively safe operation. The greatest risk is infection, which would come after the surgery and is more the result of the patient's lack of post-surgery hygiene.

To see how great u look after the surgery gives me confidence that I'll look great too. I'm very unhappy with my face shape and my cheek bones are not as pronounced as I'd like them to be. I had the jaw surgery in 1991 when I was 18.. it was hell to go through at the time because the technology was probably more primitive but it was the best decision I ever made
@Fonqie The pain after the surgery is not bad. When I was at the hospital I got painkillers. After the three days at the hospital I did get some Pinex Forte to use at home. I never used them. I felt uncomfortable sometimes, but did not feel any real bad pain.
It is irritating not to be able opening your mouth for a whole month, but you get used to drinking all food through a straw and not brushing behind the teeths.
You are probably advised not to do any exhausting exercises.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to make it. I had a similar procedure to what you had, except I had jaw advancement instead. I was a bit luckier though; only had my jaws elasticised shut for around 12 hrs and then loose elastics for about a week afterwards! I should get my braces off in about 4 months :)

This is BY FAR the best recaps of the braces and surgery journey. I have had my braces on since March 2010 and will be having my upper jaw surgery on the 26th, the day after Christmas. since he lives in Norway (which has universal health care), my guess is that it didn't cost him anything. I live in Denmark (our health care system is practically identical) and I'm going through the exact same procedure and it won't cost me anything. However, the doctors told me that it will cost the government the equivalent of $21000. That's for the braces, orthodontist checkups as well as the surgery itself.

@jagrait1 In Norway you first have to seek out a normal dentist to get a referral to an orthodontist. When you meet your orthodontist they will send x-rays and models of your teeth to a surgeon, and then they will evaluate if you meet the requirements for a full coverage by the social services. The last step can take some time.
I have kiaser permanente insurance and they cover jaw surgery even if its mostly cosmetic. I'm so grateful. Its only on the west coast in the US

Although they are not going to wire my jaws shut the same way they did yours. I actually thought they had stopped doing that a long time ago..

If you mean the ones at 0:53 they are to remove the blood from the incision area as it will bleed quite a bit for many hours after surgery.

@awesomefrida Takk! Det tok ikke lang tid før eg kunne studere igjen, kanskje en liten uke, men ble fort sliten. Rettet bare underkjeven. Da eg våknet opp var det to sykepleiere som tok veldig godt hånd om meg. Mitt siste minne var at eg låg på operasjonsbordet og sovnet inn. Hadde litt vondt i beina fordi de hadde ligget i en litt rar posisjon under operasjonen, men gikk fint. Var også ganske dopet, selv om eg følte meg helt normal :P

good changing, but man, your bite is almost nothing compared to mine, I have a severe underbite, and thebgap is about 1.5cm. it's been almost a year since I had my braces, my orthobisbtelling me that within a month ill probably be ready for surgery, too bad idk where to undergo that due to world's stupid violence but ill find a place if God wills.

Interesting that you had your jaw wired shut. Over in North America, it's more common for oral surgeons to use heavy duty elastics for the first couple of weeks; either way, I can see why you're really happy with your results. Wish me luck!

A healed bone is just as strong as before it was broken, your jaw will be no more likely to break than it was before the surgery.
You had your surgery 2 weeks after I had mine ;) I had surgery on both jaws so my swelling was alot more than yours, and I didnt have to have my jaw wired shut. YAY for awesome bites now! :D
we had the same problem. I had an underbite and i have facial assymmetry doctors adviced me to have a jaw surgery but my mom didn't want it. I went to a dentist who adviced me not to have it and he said he can fix it without jaw surgery. Im so happy with what i look now with the treatment but i still think i would look better with jaw surgery.

Your jaw looks amazing! I just had my top jaw moved forward, 4 days ago, I was pretty sick after the operation because I aspirated blood in my lungs, but I'm at home now, waiting for the swelling and bruising to go down :) take care! xox
