+Obey Marulez That's because Mew has practiced the correct tongue posture himself for nearly a decade. On other videos he has said that he looks better now than he did years ago. Positive change is possible at any age, I've already begun to see some improvement in a mere month at 23.

Dr. Mark Reichman of Vancouver performed upper and lower jaw surgery on myself in 1997 to fix a malocclusion . The operation left me with a torn palate, ripped through 3 layers of tissue in to my nasal cavity. He attempted to fix the damaged palate with two additional failed operations. The jaw surgery widening was excessive which caused the massive tear. He choose " free grafting" to attempt to seal the torn palate. The first attempt made the hole smaller, the second attempt failed and left extensive scar tissue. I consulted 4 other surgeons and decided to stop allowing him to experiment any further. I have had a plate covering the hole now for 15+ years. I rinse out my nasal cavity after each meal.

In 2006, I was 17-18 years old. I had lower jaw reconstruction sugurey to bring my jaw foward a few mm. I was innitaly soppose to have top and bottom reconstructive surgery but once in recovery room I was told they only did the bottom as they felt I didn't need the top portion done. Also during this operation the surgeon removed 3/4 fully impacted wisdom teeth. The 3rd molar on the right was left in because they needed that tooth to act as stabilizer for the screws in the jaw until the new bone grew back, then they'd remove it. My jaw was wired shut. At the time I had braces on my teeth and my bite wouldn't allign properly with out this particular operation. I was told I could "possibly" lose sensation/feeling in my lower chin lip and lower gums and teeth. However I permanently lost feeling in Lower lip, Chin, teeth & gums. After 10 years nothing has changed other than every now and then I'll get a burning or stinging or pins and needles sensation in certain areas of my chin & lip from time to time. It's annoying but I've learned to live with it. I'm not sure what happened other than the The mandibular inferior alveolar nerve got severed or stretched or pulled or damaged. Even the orthodontist at the time had no clue what happened nor did the surgeon. I was never told it could be permanent. It became a love/hate procedure while the results of my bite and facial construction looked amazing I honestly don't think it was worth losing the feeling to half of my face. Sometimes I'll get this like surge of tickling sensation through a nerve and I badly want to scratch it only to find I can't locate where the itch was coming from then on days I'll have a dull aching feeling in a nerve. Some days it will pulsate like a heart beat some ticklish some tender to the touch. Some days I feel fine some days in a ton of pain. Some days I feel the wind on my face other days I can't. Some days I scratch my chin or lip and get a rush of the ticlkes followed by a few seconds of pins and needles then back to no feeling. Sometimes I scratch I'll feel a mini orgasm in my chin and lip and the nerves will travel to my nose and other parts of my face and make that area start to itch. Since this operation I'm e extremely sensitive to cold water or things touching my chin or bottom lip. At times it's very painful times its feels nice. It's such a complicated thing to explain. I wish I had a way for my nerve to heal but after 10 going on 11 years I've come to terms I'll end up like this for the rest of my life. I wish I knew how to feel in my jaw teeth lip and chin. If any dentist or doctor or orthodontist or anyone in general is reading this and have any information they can provide to me about anything going on with me please let me know. Also what's the probability this nerve can be healed or saved if at all?

'In medicine, it's about treating causes.' I agree this is how it should be; however, the vast majority of doctors only want to give you a bunch of meds, etc., to cover up the symptoms (eg. I had a doc who told me I'd have eczema forever and that I needed to take a steroidal cream to 'deal with it.' I changed things in my diet, and low and behold, my eczema went away). So I agree you should treat the cause when possible, but you don’t do jaw surgery without not being able to change the cause. In my younger years my lower jaw simply did not grow enough, no braces, nothing helped. With the failed treatment enough time had passed for my jaw to not grow anymore. This left me with an overbite of 2,5 cm. I’m sorry but it’s just not functional. I had to tear everything I ate with my mullers, because my front teeth at no point would be together. I don’t regret a thing. I can eat normally, breath normally, close my lips, etc. It was one of the best things I ever did, even though it was only a year ago. It changed my life so much, so don’t be scared away by this. If it would improve your functioning and quality of life, do it if you want to.

Dear Mr Mew, I deeply believe you have put some rather substantial recommendations forward in this video. I closely understand your rationel and strongly agree with your suggestions, however, one question that has surged concerns the extent to which it is possible to further implement "proper tongue posture", "tongue chewing", as well as other methods for facial betterment that you propose after a possible jaw operation has been undertaken. To explicitly tell whether surgery or alternative methods are more effective, it is essential to understand how the face will function differently after a jaw surgery. Especially with the advancements taking place, what real impact does a jaw surgery deliver surrounding "form/shape" and how can this affect the methods you are suggesting?

I am going to consult with a few more orthodontists. A week ago, I went to one, and she told me that, at my age (21 years old) and having done a previous treatment of braces, it may be better to go through surgery to expand maxilla and the mandible, instead of getting a device like a kind of similar to a DNA appliance one. I can help widen your arch. your oral alignment is affected by body fat percentage. working out will change your facial structure.

What most people don't realize is just how much these can affect you. If your interested in changing your oral alignment, shoot me an email at hifikepunye@yahoo.com

PSA: Listen to this guy! Thank you so much for making these videos. So about 3 years ago I went to my GP and requested jaw surgery because I was extremely uncomfortable with my side profile. I am now preparing for surgery but it was only about 2 months ago I discovered that putting my tongue in the correct position of my mouth massively has improved my posture and looks so much better. It he also changed the way I breath for the better.
Now the only thing I worry about is when I get surgery. Will I maintain the good posture I have achieved by continuing with these habits? Please reply soon as possible
    Thanks
(I watched the video about forward head posture and its relationship to the tongue position in the mouth - in case you were wondering)

If myself, a 20 year old can make changes in just a few months, your cousin can do the same in weeks. Just make sure that he has complete suction and his full tongue engaged (alongside lower jaw muscles), otherwise it'll be slow as balls.

Well i've been mewing for quite a long time now,, maybe 5/8months ? And i don't see changes , exept that i look less tired but i don t think it has to do with that, my jaw is still verry low/at the back and i have a proheminent gummy smile :( i hate that it makes my face so long , i want to do a surgery one day but at the same time my orthodontist tells me that i should not risk it because i have a "little" gummy smile. I don t even know what to do at this point because mewing doesn t work and it's not like my bones are super hard now because i'm still 15 so it should be more maleable according to doctors but then why don't i see results

    • @lukmaz507

@@prince_sach50 now i'll be 17 in a month and i have to say that my facial symetry has gotten better (or is it just my growth) my breathing is also better. I have braces and it might have retracted a little some of the gum but i still have a gummy smile, i still have my jaw low but even with that i have come to the conclusion that there's worse in life and i'm quite happy with what i have. Somes have huge deformities, somes don't have limbs and i was there being self concious of not having an " attractive bone structure of my face". Thank God i can see/hear/breath/touch the wonderful world. Also i learnt that the attractiveness of a person is the full package, not just 1 feature. The perfume, the types of clothing, the hairstyles, make up, the way they walk/stand, their voice are all things that make physicaly a person attractive. Not just what you were born with. And ofc not to mention the most obvious, the personality. So i wanted to tell you that you shouldn't worry about the structure of your face if it doesn't hurt you👍🏻

@@anemon1900 Thank you for this. Recently I have been extremely self conscious about my jawline, it is not prominent at all. I have always breathed through my nose and chewed well, lived healthy, ate good food, and I don't have any issues other than teeth (which were fixed by braces, though I still have a bit of an overbite). My parents don't have a prominent jawline but theirs is much better than mine. I have been distracted and slightly depressed after recently finding out about my jawline, I never really noticed anything like this before, my side profile is very ugly. I don't have any problems breathing, or chewing but I do hear a pop when I fully open my mouth. I just wanted to get this off my chest, I don't know what I should do, like getting surgery or just living with it. But your comment helped alleviate my pain.

I would hate to disagree with you, we take the view that the customer is always right but I am stunned to hear that anyone could widen their upper dental arch, but not their lower from Mewing. It does not make logical sense. The teeth should be in or near contact and move in unison. All I can conclude is that you are not doing it right and as you should know if you follow me I rarely ever give out personal advice, with very good reason. M

    • @RS54321
      @RS54321 6 лет назад

I thought the same thing. It's only logical that if you're putting continuous pressure on the maxilla, it will slowly widen. You would have to be putting this same pressure on your mandible as well in order for it to widen in step with your maxilla. From my understanding, mewing seems to focus only on putting pressure on the maxilla (which seemed odd as the lower jaw would soon be out of alignment with the top-perhaps I missed this step??).

Robin S idk man I rested my tounge on the roof of my mouth, breathed through my nose, kept my lips closed, i put a lot of research and time into this stuff and a lot of different websites would say keep ur teeth touching, keep ur teeth barely touching, or make sure ur teeth aren’t touching and that’s what I did was making sure my teeth don’t touch each other so maybe that’s what messed things up...Im probably just gonna set up a oral myofunctional therapy appointment up or something because none of these videos and websites r making sense...my face looks so much worse than what it did before I honestly feel like I’ve screwed up my whole life by doing this like it would be great if they put a warning up on their videos before they start saying hey...”make sure u do this right or it could potentially mess ur face up and be irreversible” sucks man
