    Don't forget to do the chin tuck (pull your head back).
    I'm 36 years old.
    The first 6 months of tongue on the top palate didn't do a lot. When I realised I had to pull my head back at the same time as having the tongue up, I could instantly feel the pressure on my maxilla, and sometimes on the jaw.
    Significant changes have occurred in the few months since.

    • @elipskis1
      @elipskis1 7 лет назад +55

      Cheek bones (Zygomatic arches) remodel also and become more visible, especially if you are developing the upper arch forward at the same time you expand. There are several ways to accomplish this, the key is keeping the force levels very light. As far as growing the chin forward, that's not what happens, you can translate and reposition the entire lower jaw forward by remodeling that mainly occurs at the jaw joints. You effectively bring the chin forward in this manner. Sometimes you need to reposition the lower teeth to maximize the esthetic effect for the chin.

      Ed L I learned the hard way that right rate of expanding is appropriate.

    • @fadjeja3141
      @fadjeja3141 4 года назад +1

      @@kittendivine1 Er is 1 in België "respire dental" in Melle vlakbij Gent. In Nederland zijn er enkele..."wijs met je neus" en als je in Google zoekt op holistische orthodontist vind je volgens mij nog een paar. Er is slechts 1 praktijk die met bioblocs werkt....Ik ben 37 jaar en ik ga binnenkort op consult bij een kaakchirurg die beweert dat buitenbeugels apneu kunnen veroorzaken, ik denk puur voor de erkenning. Sinds de buitenboordbeugel behandeling heb ik zoveel klachten..grillig slaappatroon, insomnia, depressies, last van mijn nek en rug, migraine aanvallen. Uiterlijk: long face syndrome, afgeplatte jukbeenderen, terugliggende kin.

    • @kittendivine1
      @kittendivine1 4 года назад +2

      @@fadjeja3141 Yes I know 'Wijs met je neus'. I didn't like their proposed treatment plan though: acrylic plate for the top dental arch and lower arch should follow naturally. I don't believe that. Also, they wanted to use the Myobrace to straighten the teeth and upright the lower molars. I don't believe that works either, especially not uprighting the molars, it's supersoft on the sides!
      Also, I want maxilla expansion. Mind you, maxilla expansion includes palatal expansion, but not all palatal expansion causes maxilla expansion! Or very little.
      Thanks for the tips. I will look op 'respire dental'. Which one works with biobloc just out of curiosity? And which jaw surgeon are you going to? I really want MARPE/MSE or SARPE. I just found out yesterday that they do MARPE in Radboud UMC Nijmegen! www.orthodontics.nl/userdata/document/Pati%C3%ABntinfo%20MARPE.pdf
      'Sterkte!' Yes I surely believe headgear can cause harm. Unfortunately the dots are not being connected and so many things are seen as 'normal', because they are so common. But common doesn't mean healthy! Did you have a sleep study yet?

    • @kittendivine1
      @kittendivine1 4 года назад +1

      PS: I almost went to www.orthoeuregio.nl in Enschede/Hengelo. But it's too far for me to go there every month and from my understanding SARPE/MARPE/MSE are most effective for maxilla expansion. I'm not sure what they use there, but I don't think they do MARPE and the nearest MSE is in France. They said they sometimes have patients combine the treatment with surgery, so that makes it SARPE. But only in very narrow arches I think, maybe if you just prefer it, idk. The surgery is called buccal osteotomy. That's the one I see on a lot of Dutch jaw surgeon websites. I wouldn't want that one, because it makes so many cuts, that only a part of the maxilla is moving and not the whole maxilla+cheekbones.

    Thank you! You have just answered multiple of my questions that had been boggling me for a while!
    I do have a wise orthodontist, though he wasn't as good as you at seeing through what is possible with skeletal expansion, and thinks that I should get checked by a jaw surgen even though I'm in between greater chance of dental expansion and greater chance at skeletal expansion (according to my age).
    He has decided that he won't put them on, even though I know with a gut feeling that I will have a successful skeletal-expansion with expanders, even though my upper jaw will be a little more sore.
    You've got a lot of insight, and you have ways of proving things many are too cautious or afraid to do. And even adjust and fix what problems you may have caused, but it made it easier for you to do so. Since many orthdodontists like to adjust patients' teeths in a way that makes it easier for them to operate on. In your way, it actually brings benefit and decreases time and money for your patients whilsts also granting you higher payment and success.
    You're obviously very smart with a lot of experience. Props to you! ^^

    i had a tad assisted expander at age 24, i'm 25 now and had no problems with my palatal expansion treatment. my orthodontist told me there was always a chance it wouldn't work because of my age and they had only done this treatment on 17-19 year olds, but they felt that at 24 it wasn't worth denying me the option of trying conservatively rather than opting out for full blown double jaw surgery. I am forever grateful for this option because after 5 months with my expander i am now moving on to braces and there is a very VERY small chance i will need the jaw surgery they were talking about at my consultation. My case is relatively mild to some. I had a sever cross bite, but my teeth were always pretty straight so i could only imagine that if someone had both teeth problems and bite problems it could result in a different treatment. however, if jaw surgery is your "only option" i'd always try and find an ortho who is willing to do something like an adult expander and see what they have to say.

    I wish I would have heard this information 14 years ago. I had straight teeth and a beautiful smile my only issue was a posterior crossbite on both right and left that put me in an overjet. I was wearing down my cuspid and the bottom bilateral on the left side. The orthodontist told me because I was past the age of 20 (I was 24) he couldn't fix my bite unless he extracted 4 teeth. I didn't want to have 4 healthy teeth taken out. He also told me I could go to surgeon and have my palate "cracked" and I could get a expander but discouraged me from it by staying I would have nerve damage. Being naive I went with the extractions and have regretted it everyday of my life since I had the braces removed. I started having pain and facial disfiguration issues 1 year into braces and when.I would tell him he would tell me it was normal or would go away. After I would have the braces removed. I had to request the braces to be removed because after 2 years I can no longer take the excruciating pain. I can no longer sleep my tongue did not fit in my mouth and I was having a lot of facial muscle spasms. It was a nightmare end the worst thing that could have happened to my life. I was a young attractive woman with a beautiful smile which was ruined. I waited 14 years to get out of pain on my own because my teeth eventually started to move back and the space is starting opening which relieve my pain. Now I have to go back into braces for another 18 months to reverse with that original orthodontist did.

      @Shristian Dunn I have narrow jaws, I got removed my premolar on the right side when I was a teenager by the dentist. Back then nobody knew what was that orthodontist where I am from. So she did it just like that, pulled it out. There was literally no space for this tooth and it had turned out into another color, it looked weird. After maybe a decade the same dentist was insisting on conventional braces on me, as in your case she wanted to remove more teeth. I did not agree of course, because she was a dentist. Then I started doing research on the net and found Damon braces. It took me a lot of time to save t the money needed for them :) Now it's been 10 months with Damon. But there is one little problem - I will never have centered bite from the middle (midline centring) because of this mistake, unless I agree on an implant. Which I don't want to but don't know what can happen to my jaw bones if I live like this; I need to research again.
      All of this was to say that I can relate to how you feel....But so happy that you found Damon method which I think is way better than the conventional ones especially for people with really really narrow jaws! And my ortho gave me FACE FORMER by Dr Brendsen for the tongue! You can search it on youtube!!! Wish you all the best with this adventure and hope that all of us have healthy jaws bones teeth and smile at the end :)

      @Black Pill They are ignorant rather than evil. They believe what they read in texts books, so they could pass exams, there is no prerequisite for medical professionals to be wise or particularly intelligent. So, they stick, dogmatically, to what they learned in college because they aren't smart/confident/wise enough to learn anything new for themselves, and many of them are too busy pretending that they are cleverer than everyone who isn't a medical professional. Many of them are actually insecure as hell because they know that they haven't really changed much since they were a spotty teen at college.

    Thank you for the valuable Information!
    It all sounds very logical and natural but there Is little Information about lower jaw expansion.I've read that It's not possible but I don't believe that.
    Perhaps the forces applied to the palate by the tongue can transfer through the closed mouth via the teeth and promote expansion In the lower jaw also.Rapid expanders would just push the teeth outwards but this method Is slow and that's what makes bone remodelling seem plausible.

I started July 2022 with upper expander, with top braces added in March 2023, then lower expander & braces added in April 2023. There's been a huge difference so far! Approximately 8mm expansion on the upper, less so far on the bottom as the expander has only been in about 2 months, but it's working, I can see the space emerging. And the elastics have closed my open bite drastically.

    I've had clicking in my jaw joints for about a month, with not much pain. I have a bit of a cross bite but I managed to achieve decent tongue posture. Only thing is, when I protrude my jaw using my pterygoids, my jaw pops.
    I know that this is due to the fact that my condyles sit too far back in the glenoid fossa when I have full occlusion (probably due to mouth breathing growing up). Swallowing feels great, my teeth align like never before, and I don't feel pain, but I can tell that my TMJ discs are anteriorly displaced. Will my jaw joint conform to this new postural change overtime? Or am I exacerbating my TMD by holding my tongue in this position?

    What about when your upper and lower jaw fit together but are narrow, can you expand both lower and upper jaw? I mostly heard of upper jaw expanders. i removed 8 teeth to gain space (4 regular where removed as a preteen, and than additional 4 wisdom teeth as an adult) I also had a crooked septum until recently so i could only breathe though the mouth for 26 years, now i fixed it with surgery but i struggle to hold the back of the tounge in the roof it's simply too big for it to work without forcing it. I got invisalign but turns out it didn't increase the space between the back molars much at all, i went from 31mm to 32mm the teeth are now straight but palate still narrow

    Dr. Mark Reichman of Vancouver performed upper and lower jaw surgery on myself in 1997 to fix a malocclusion . The operation left me with a torn palate, ripped through 3 layers of tissue in to my nasal cavity. He attempted to fix the damaged palate with two additional failed operations. The jaw surgery widening was excessive which caused the massive tear. He choose " free grafting" to attempt to seal the torn palate. The first attempt made the hole smaller, the second attempt failed and left extensive scar tissue. I consulted 4 other surgeons and decided to stop allowing him to experiment any further. I have had a plate covering the hole now for 15+ years. I rinse out my nasal cavity after each meal.

    First of all, english isn't my language.
    Guys, this is surprisingly TRUE! I'm 26 yo, and I started mewing about three months ago, and i'm seeing legitimate result - it's not placebo/illusion. For those who are really interested in mewing, here is how I do it:
    1- gently touch your upper lips and lower lips;
    2- then make your upper and lower front teeth touch each other, gently equally, don't put pressure
    3- now, position your tongue in the roof of your mouth, in a way that the tip don't touch the front teeth. The base portion of the tongue must stay in the "back roof" (soft palete) of the mouth.
    I'm seeing massive results, especially in the zygomatic bone. I don't have too much body fat, consequently it's more noticiable.
    I estimate I mew ~4 hours/day

      ***** I have the E-Arch (aka the Arnold expander) in my mouth, which is not used as commonly because it's pretty slow. You would probably get the Rapid Palatal Expander if you got it done. I got my expander in July this year and have noticed some small improvement. I'm expected to get it off by July of next year. No pain at all. I had a bad lisp, but after 3 months, nobody could tell I had it in. It did, however, make my bite temporarily worse, because my teeth used to fold inside my bottom teeth and now they go right over them. It's produced a mild openbite, and I've been told that it will go away once my top teeth pass over my bottom teeth and link together again. Overall I would say it's a solid procedure, go for it. There really is no downside, any minor issues caused by the expander will be rectified with some alignment afterwards.

    • @cursedswordsman
      @cursedswordsman 9 лет назад

      ***** "After watching this I'm hesitant to not use it" Why? Also, the expander is fine. It's slower than the RPE, but usually slower is better for the long term. I've gotten some huge expansion near the front of my mouth, where the springs are, but not so much near the back. I'm going to talk to my orthodontist about that next time I see him. I've had it for about 8 months at this point.
      I should also add that my expander is not the least bit uncomfortable. I have to admit it was horrible for about two weeks, but I got 100% use to it and forget it's there. Judging by the looks of the RPE, that might not be the case.

    • @cursedswordsman
      @cursedswordsman 9 лет назад

      ***** Fixed. I've heard that and haven't got a gap in the slightest, probably because I don't have the RPE.

      Yeah. I had it out after a year and my palette was MUCH wider, big improvement. I'm hitting the 2 year point for invisalign now (it only takes so long for me because I have to correct my jaw alignment via rubberbands too). My palette did SLIGHTLY shrink back after 2 years of not having the expander in, but not much. Solid treatment, no complaints.

      @@Queef_Storm Fair enough. Thanks for the advice. I am being very wary of how my palate feels as I expand. I experimented with different turns of expansion, 4 turns (1mm) felt too much and was creating too much pressure.3 turns for me felt very comfortable.
      Also I wear it every night when I sleep and 90% of the day. If I have it out for a few hours it does not fit so consistency is key.
      I have a short eating window everyday and that may be why perhaps I recover and heal quickly and can expand so much. Not sure. I will continue to listen to my body and expand only to where I feel ease.

It caused my pallate to be uneven with the left side wider than the right and the arm of the expander cut into the roof of my mouth and left a permanent knot on the right side where its more narrow. I have been unhappy about this so long. I don`t know what to do or where to go so I can this fixed. Every oral surgeon I go to want to charge me for a consult and never help me and I get nowhere with orthodontic consultations either because they tell me they don`t put expanders on adults or they wont expand it so it will be even on both sides. The issue is the uneveness is really bothering me and I want something done to make my pallate symmetrical again. The places I go to dont listen and want to do anything for me and I hate that I am stuck like this because it was not like this before.
