Whats the ideal age
@@mohamadtamimi3020 the younger the better, there's no real ideal age, if u could start your life doing that stuff, it'll be even better, but due to our dietary habits in these times we don't develop these habits naturally, although, it does work best if you're well under 25, as after that the growth of the skull slows down because it's nearly complete.

How you keep the tongue uppp on the palate?
@@nomanabdullah8406 it's seems a bit hard to stand the 3 weeks, but after these 3 weeks of conscious effort, my head and neck anatomy seemed to be working naturally to keep the tongue posture. after that I didn't have to think about it. there's no point in "trying" this. you have to make it a daily habit for the rest of your life. changes will take a long time, but you have to be consistent with it and trust the process. your body posture and the way you chew and swallow also plays a big role.
TriHard i have a pretty narrow palate and my tongue wont fit through my palate because my top molars are in the way, what do i do?
@@insidehor That's a question that comes up a lot. Many people have the same problem as you. I think it was in one of Mike Mew's Q&A videos where he addresses this.
If your tongue doesn't fit in your palate completely, start by pushing your tongue against the roof of your mouth regardless of if it fits or not. With enough time, your tongue should be able to fit more and more, and the more it fits, the more effective will mewing be.
When I've started, my tongue didn't quite fit either, but as time progressed, I was able to fit more and more of my tongue and keeping it in the palate felt more and more natural. Keep in mind that I put in a lot of effort mewing pretty much all day and it still took a couple months to really show results. I'm 21 years old atm.
3:22
Conclusion : If the tongue subsequently goes up into the pallet, rest there, then the expansion could not only be stable but actually continues to widen.
So it is possible to new with narrow palate as long as I keep my tongue up?

But what does exactly 'find homeland' mean? English is not my first language.. does that mean although If we have narrow palate, this can be expaneded just with trying proper tongue posture again and again for longtime with out any retainers or palate expander?
@@user-eg2rh1pp8p hello, are you from korea? the reason why its very hard for your tongue to rest on the roof of your mouth when you have a narrow palate because it doesn't feel natural. it is VERY hard, but possible if you do it EVERYDAY and you do it ALL the time. You have to be consistent with your tongue being on the roof of your mouth. ONLY then will you see good results. alot of people have the habit of opening their mouths to breathe and you won't get too far if you keep doing that, especially when you sleep. Having a narrow palate makes it where its hard to maintain your tongue on the roof of your mouth because it's something you never really done before so you won't be able to do it subconciously. Palate expander is the best way, in my opinion. If you are old, I recommend getting SARPE surgery. But yes, it is possible, only if you are VERY consistent, you will see results overtime, especially if you are young.
i wish a dentist would have mentioned this to my parents as a kid, ive gone my whole life people asking 'why do you talk like that?' i never knew why i couldnt enunciate, i had a lot of speech therapy, i knew 'how' to position my tongue, but i physically could not. now im 30 and just discovered that they have this 'palate expander' thing. my teeth are straight, but ive noticed my palate was like a horse, 'narrow'.
does narrow plate give you a lisp?? cuz i have a horrible lisp
that guy I had the same thing and was made fun for my horrible speech
Im done with normal dentists, too. My lower jaw was narrowed and my upper normal at best. So the decided instead of widen the lower they would have to narrow the upper. Now my tongue doesnt fit, my lower jaw doesnt find the right position so it causes assymetrie and my lips look really odd.
PC BEAST Nvidia I have a lisp and a narrow palate. My dentists took out some teeth and pushed them back with braces when I was a kid. Now it all makes sense.

Then it became natural. I know that because it started a little old, everything is slower. But I don't remember the last time my molars crushed my tongue. And my face is more and more harmonic! I've been practising resting my tongue against my pallet for just over a week now. My molars are aching in a similar way to what I recall when wearing braces as a child. This is my issue. My upper teeth are positioned more narrowly than the bottom teeth, especially at a certain point, & there is some crowding which is worse on one side. My back teeth fit together when I bite, my airway is only slightly narrow & I am only forced to breath through my mouth when I have a bad cold or hay fever etc. (the more nose breathing I do the less of these things I get... who knew!). I manage to nose breath for the vast majority of the time & have been onto tongue position issue for years now. Things have not got worse but are yet to get better.
My dad has very good teeth, with no fillings, & was an excellent athlete in his time- a 4 minute mile runner etc.
I also have no fillings & take after dad in looks/complexion etc. If there are any genes involved I’ve lucked out as my mother & brother both had terrible crowing & had their upper eye teeth removed (Mum’s entire family has terrible teeth). We’re all a bit deficient in the cheekbone department & have always been led to believe this is a Caucasian trait & simply genetic (which we now know is absolute bullshit).
I’d like to see if there is anything that can be done to improve my relatively mild narrow palette & slight right side crowding & swing things in my favour. I’m not ashamed to motivated by vanity lol as I’ve realised this is the reason I do not smile in photos & am less photogenic than I’d like to be.
Does anyone know of any more holistic type orthodontists that would be aware of Mike Mew’s methods in Melbourne Australia?
I’m also keen to hear Mike’s opinion on childhood exposure to cigarette smoke indoors. I do remember having a sore throat, coughing at night & irritated sinuses & eyes as a child & poor quality sleep. I imagine this certainly wouldn’t help anyone in this department.
When I was 14 and began visiting the Orthodontist, I had a narrow palate. It needed to be widened to match the size of my jaw before I could get corrective braces applied to my teeth. So, for a while I wore a palate widener. The device itself really affected the way I spoke, because of it's position bridging the roof of my mouth.
Did the devide help you to look better?

I have seen your videos since before I got my braces on. I didn’t truly believe that I could fix my teeth on my own.
At first, I really regretted it. I wanted them removed after a few weeks of a 24 month treatment but the team assured me it would take time to make progress. I listened. Then I actually loved them: my cross bite was gone and I could finally fully bite down on hard foods. But as my treatment continues I can see how f****d my face has become and my tongue doesn’t fit anymore! I don’t even know where to put it. This time, I convinced MYSELF time into just giving it some time. The last time I went in, they added three new brackets and I could immediately feel my face changing for the worst.
I cannot take it anymore. I haven’t been able to breathe properly in months. I called my office and told the receptionist I want them off. She said that to get a retainer will take a while and I told her there will be no need. She told me to just come on my next scheduled appointment to see if the doctor will agree to remove them. It’s 13 days from now and I am so afraid they won’t want to. I must remind myself to stand up for what I want and NEED. I have to promise myself that I WILL leave that office braces free.
I cannot stand the taste of metal in my mouth anymore. It’s really been taking a toll on my mental. I can hardly even eat any food that I need to chew. I really feel stupid for what I’ve put myself through. I cry for the 5 teeth that I paid to have taken from me. I guess I just have to just hold on for a few more weeks. I have thoughts of just cracking every bracket off myself.
I wrote a lot because I don’t know how to cope right now. I hope I leave that office for the very last time on the 23rd. I just want to be free.
How did you go? I hope everything turned out for you!

Ows it going
How’s it going
Hi Dr.Mew, Since i watched your videos about the right position of the tongue, i was wondering if the tongue should just rest on the palate and just stay there Or The tongue have to constantly push and apply strong pression on the palate ?
Thank you very much.
I would say the resting force of the position is what's key here. I worry about specifics much like this one, my own issue being that I wonder just HOW I properly identify that the rear third of my tongue is actually resting against my palate. I try my best but I try not to over-stress it with forceful pressure, because I feel that it's still a gamble on whether i'm doing it right or not. If it's still a gamble, I might as well keep the force down to a resting level so I don't change my face or jawline into something even more different because of excessive force into ANOTHER wrong posture.
Know what I mean? Basically improve your resting posture TOWARDS the correct way, rather than worry about the absolute correct way (which is difficult or impossible for us at the very beginning of re-training our muscles), and just enjoy the benefits of change as the year continues.
VulcanXIV I have been pushing it pretty hard and got some tmj pain so I stopped overdoing it and the pain is gone so it might be best to just rest it but I don't know the facts. I am also chewing lots of gum I think Dr mew said that helps to widen the palates.
SoyshiroFR I have been mewing hard gums daily for 1 hour, it's been 7 months and my jaw has widen by 3mm in just 7 months, my nostrils have opened up a bit, within a year you can widen 6-7 mm !

How old r u!?
How has it gone now?
All of this information about orthotropics is fascinating. I had severe buck teeth due to thumb-sucking for too long and possibly genetics. I wish this was known a long time ago. I did eventually get dental braces in the mid 80s to fix my buck teeth (head gear too). I had to wear a retainer for a year after, and that was it. I wear a dental plate now at night to alleviate grinding teeth. I wonder if this technique of "mewing" would help alleviate having to use a dental plate for that? I am in my mid 50s now. I wonder if I had been instructed to "mew" and had a palate expander if the dental braces would be been as necessary?
should the pallet of the lower jaw be narrow or really wide or just wide enough for your tongue?
I was searching for mew two
Be glad you found this kid!
When I put the posterior 3rd of the tongue on the roof of the mouth I can't breath through my nose like it is blocking an airway, and it also feels like I'm swallowing my tongue and makes me feel like I might vomit.
Ryan Paris straighten your back every time you out your on the palate, that will resolve the issue of not being able to breath
I meant the neck
Hiro I still can’t breathe
That is pushing the soft palate, I don't think you re supposed to do that.
Your tongue should only rise to the soft palate during your swallow. It’s impossible to breathe if you leave it resting there.
My palette is shallow, and my tongue fits perfectly in there. Not sure if the shallow part is ideal or should the pallete have more height
Fabulous video. The bain and embarrassment of my life. To have a high roof. I could see it. And knew it was ugly. I had loads of teeth out. If my mouth had been normal I would have been so confident but as it was well.
My palate is externally narrow (just like everyone else in the maternal side of my family) and my tongue is naturally pretty much welded to the roof of my mouth, I've never in my life been a mouth breather, have always naturally rested with lips closed (drooling in your sleep tells you how often you rest with your mouth open) my teeth always rest touching, and yet I've got the face shape and palate attributed to neglecting to do all the things I have always naturally done.
I've never observed any family members with mouth breathing, or lips apart etc, yet we all share the narrow face shape. Interestingly, my partner has had one nostril blocked his entire life, breathes through his mouth constantly, awake and asleep, and his palate is so wide you could park an SUV in his mouth. Also interesting, 3 generations of my family have the same crooked smile with the same side being higher in all of us, and my mother and I have the same teeth - - all of them align perfectly in the right side of our mouths, and NONE of them align on the left.
So how does all of that fit with these theories?
Your diet perhaps?
Shane L I don't see how diet would affect only one side of the mouth. I'd say it's a genetically inherited trait. As far as diet goes, I think the whole poor nourishment theory was tossed out when it occurred to someone that some of the most underdeveloped, malnourished countries have the broadest faces.
Dani B try eating hard foods like carrots or chew mastic gum, also try getting lots of k2 vitamins from things like Kale and natural grass fed butter over time things will develop hope this helps!
NinjaHobo I'd like to see some adult before and after pictures where there are actual bony changes from chewing hard gum or other simple diet modifications. Even the Orthotropics website doesn't provide much of anything in terms of showing real life changes in the actual shape of the maxilla in adults.
It has definitely worked for me from old photos I can see the development of my jawline going from a flat face to a more toned and developed face. I have only really been following these habits for a year
What if I have an uneven/assymetrical palate? I'm mewing but really afraid it will make my face more assymetrical
What do we do when we have more space in right palate?
This is great stuff!
...Now all I have to do is to find someone to help me to help myself to change myself.
My palate is extremely narrow, after braces. When I was 11 the orthodontist pulled out 4 pre-molars (one from each side) and I feel like it has messed up my whole jaw and facial structure. I cannot put my tongue comfortably on my palate, it feels like I'm really straining my tongue. Can this narrow palate still be fixed by mewing?
check Cara Taylor, she had the molars extracted and she is a model. I'm not saying extractions are good, i'm saying one should not blame extractions. Start mewing.
@@sirlean-beautysubliminals-5515 pretty sure we can blame extraction. mewing isnt an excuse not to blame
GET MSE
Get Mse for maxilla and MSDO for mandible then after widening get implants of the teeth that were extracted. Depending how bad the horizontal recession of your face you might need MMA surgery w counter clockwise movement

can I put away the 'guilt' for causing crooked teeth of my children with my inability to tolerate dairy?
can I start mewing after bioblock done? will my tongue work like retainer for teeth that they not come back
I assume this is the gap between the top set of molars, if it's about resting the tongue? Only curious because you say the average is 29-34, but my lower is 36mm and upper is 47mm.
So if my whole tongue doesn't fit on my palate (it's narrow), should i still mew and will it expand my palate eventually?
Yea someone answer plz
Is it possible to get changes if you have a permanent glued retainer on the back of your teeth from previous dental work?
I've been trying to fix my whole posture situation and it feels great, I'm just wondering if this could be a problem or like an opposing force for the growth.
In that case, would removing these metal retainers and correct posture screw all the previous dental work done or?
it probably would.
You only have a metal retainer on the 6 front teeth, the palate expantion happens in the back teeth, so i dont believe it should hinder you. I also have a metal retainer and had to use an additional plastic retainer that i put on every night, after a month of pushing my tongue upwards, the plastic retainer started to feel tight in the back teeth and i felt nothing on the front teeth, so i believe its working.
Hm, alright! Thanks for you answer mate. Hopefully Mike can bring up this point in a future video for more clarification, because I believe we're alot of people with this kind of question.
Yeah, im only speculating. Hope Mike answers this question as it's the most asked, and obviously alot of people walking around with a retainer.
I removed my permanent retainer two months after having it for 10 years. As long as you have a permanent retainer your cranium will be locked in a set position. Removing it will allow for more cranium/face structure movement which is good if you work hard to keep good oral posture. You will also have a little bit more space for your tounge when keeping it on the roof of the mouth. Whether or not removing the permanent retainer for the upper teeth will screw up all the previous dental work you have done depends again on your effort to strive for good oral posture and body posture. If you are able to achieve and maintain good oral and body posture there should not be any interference with previous dental work. It may not be true if you have just recently got the retainer. This is what my brilliant and ingenius dentist told me, whom himself have been to some of Mike Mews courses.
Why does the relapse occur when the inter molar width is less than 37mm?
Just a quick question...here in Spain I've been told by dentists that widening also depends on the root of the tooth...if you widen too much then there can be damage and high sensibility to your teeth? Is that true? And to what point?
What i mean to say that the root could be displaced out of line with the molars and premolars
Thanks

if the tongue is too narrow for the palate how would you widen the palate enough so as that the tongue can fit comfortably
There is a specific group of appliances called palate expanders.
this
PLEASE UPDATE YOUR PROGRESS MAN AND TELL NE YOUR AGE
The ALF or DNA appliance, as an example.
If the tongue is too narrow?
I mean you can control the shape of the tongue
Making it flat and wide or "contracting" it to make it thick but narrow
Why don't you develop an appliance that exerts the same forces upon the pallet as correct tongue position, but at a more rapid rate?
The tongue would work best for every direction pressure is applied...
A jaw expander?
That would be awsome
Rapid maxillary expansion is damaging to the bones. The use semi-rapid expansion. You will also relapse as you're not learning ideal tongue posture, which Mike makes a point of at the end of the video
this exists by the way, i know mike mew's father used it on pacients and it worked, with the tongue its harder, but more natural and you can still speak and not have a huge thing stuffed in your mouth
What is the role of Vitamin A, Vitamin D and Vitamin K2 in craniofacial dystrophy and the upswing and downswing of the face please Dr Mew?
Mike Mew is a chad scientist.
Hi! I went to an orthodontist to mesure my palate width and they told me its 25mm. Is this why I have trouble mewing comfortably? Will expanding my palate make mewing easier for me?
Yes, you need a removable palate expander. Many great options out there. Bioblock, homeoblock etc Can be expanded at any age. Good luck

There are 3 molars ...for which molars are you referring to for the width
I have a narrow palate, When I push my tongue to the roof it touches the inner side of my upper teeth and the gums, not the palate itself. I've been doing mewing for more than three months now, I feel the sides of my teeth has gotten a little bit rounder and wider.
It takes time guys but it's possible. Don't give up guys. Also, I'm 18.
thehowler did you just soft mew and it expanded?
@@insidehor It depends. Sometimes I push my tongue forcefully (but not so harsh) and sometimes I just let it be there softly

My pallet seems to be around 35mm
If we can separate and widen the intermaxillary suture with a device, can't we hypothetically separate a rear suture or insert some widening device at the back of the maxilla to push it forward? It could be implanted, and then instead of turning a key, a small robotic motor could be activated to expand it .25mm at a time.
From what I can tell this isn't really possible. For every force there is an opposite but equal opposing force. We are able to expand a narrow palate with a device because we are using both forces. One for the left side and one for the right side. If someone were to put a force on the maxilla there needs to be another force equal and opposite to it. Naturally this is the tongue, if you were to put this force anywhere else it could potentially cause problems. I don't know much about them but there are those face pulling mechanisms in that case the opposite force is the weight on the end of the pulley system.

Hey Doc im using braces a year now and just discovered that i have a very narrow palate what should i do ? should i use expander?
Yes. Buy a removable palate expander and begin expanding at a semi rapid rate. This can be done at any age despite what they tell you.

schwarz expander

Dear Dr. Mew, I hope that you will answer to me! Concept of mewing shocked me and I can't wait to do this, but I have some really important questions, needed to be answered. I was born without both 5ths teeths on lower jaw, so now I wearing braces (already 1 year) on both jaws with purpose to make implants instead of empty spaces I have. So my question is: After I'll take off my braces and stop wearing retainer, and finally start to mew, would it be safe, to expand my maxilla up and forward if I have implants on lower jaw? Or if I have implants, mewing will not be safe, cause implanted teeths wouldn't move with the rest of the teeths? I'm worry that because of the implants I couldn't mew and grow maxilla. I hope that you will give me an answer, cause I really want to work to improve my face features and be healthy and beautiful, but also I don't want to make worse because of my special situation I have, so this is why I really need to hear your opinion. Thank you some much!

Where do I get a palatal expander or a diagnosis to get a palatal expander??
Tongue tie can be an underlying cause of narrow palate and speech issues (plus many more issues too! Digestion, increased allergies, ear infections).
If the tongue is restricted as it is with a tongue tie then it can be very difficult to rest your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Or even if it is possible, the muscles in the tongue are too weak to hold the tongue up to the roof of the mouth due to poor tongue muscle tone from restricted muscle use during eating, talking, swallowing, chewing etc.
There are dentists and out there that specialise in tongue tie releases, also tongue tie Facebook groups, articles. Myofunctional therapists and speech therapists can also have experience And knowledge around tongue ties too.
this!
Agreed. I've had my tongue release and it was much better with muscle activity of tongue. Although myofunctional therapy is required to restore it, and have to do it throughly
@@EternalMetaphor what are the steps in getting your tongue release done?
@@trevorlei From treatment with breathe institute, it is required to familiarise muscle activity/memory with myo exercise, after surgery if tongue stays low, it reattach, so you make muscles good enough it stays up when healing

Is expanding the teeth the same as expanding the palate?
Does anyone know the ideal measurements??
soo how to widen the narrow palate to rest the tongue
