In order to get the best results the head should be tilted in, and the spine strait with the mouth closed. The chin should be tucked and the forehead strait, this feels awkward but you will get used to it and it actually becomes very comfortable. You have to imagine that your forehead is smashing down on you maxilla bone which creates the force that is necessary to drive it foreward. As far as the tongue, it should be sucked on to the palate, especially the back of the palate. This will likely block the airway, but you need to hold it there for a few months until the airway adapts. I don't know how long this will take for you, but it was a few months for me. Just hold so that the airway just open enough to breath. The maxilla takes the most time to move foreward in my opinion, but it does move! So stay dedicated and you will eventually get results! Good luck, and hopefully this helps

On the other hand, I am also very pissed off to see so many youtuber, youtube channels try to get views using mewing, and even worst, some of them just outright try to sell you appliances, this is just disgraceful.
what's interesting is that that discomfort is really just a "snug" feeling which is actually quite comforting (but only if the rest of your body is conspiring to get lots of air in!)
Thank you Dr. Mew for this video. I’ve been struggling with the pushing up force in the posterior third of my tongue because of my small airway. But even before watching your video, I’ve amazingly noticed how my body was constantly trying to adapt to mewing. I noticed my tongue pushing up to the point of obstruction then trying to release ever so slightly to find the right balance. Hopefully my airway will open up more soon! I’m still only 15 so I’m hoping for the best!
It will don't worry. Your bones aren't even done growing naturally until 16, or later for many when puberty is done. My uncle grew taller in his 20s. So you could grow vertically and your maxilla could still widen on its own just from maintaining the correct posture 8 hours daily. Furthermore, your jaw will also genetically hypertrophy when you are 18-20. Trust me, there are adults doing this and seeing progress in 1-3 year timeframe. If you are consistent with Dr. Mew's myofunctional principles, you will probably see some significant results within the first few months of mewing and clearing your airways.
@@Hiyjjbro wow thank you so much for this reply. You definitely gave me a great motivation boost. Ill try my best to make a habit of good oral and body posture, as well as not to stress about it too much since as you said, I’m still young, Also if you let it consume you it will be overwhelming and harder to keep consistent because of the constant overthinking and doubt. So I’m also planning to forget about mewing once it’s a subconscious habit, and let time do its wonders.
Mewers, I have been mewing 4 almost 3 years and seeing extremely positive results. My new tongue posture was causing me difficulty in breathing, use to yawn more, wake up tired in the morning, totally unaware of the causes until I saw this video. But till that time, airways obstruction caused me frequent urination. Airways obstruction made me a chest breather instead of abdomen breather, I was slowly changing my natural breathing pattern into shallow breathing which I was totally unaware of. So guys if u r mewing check ur breathing pattern. Good luck friends.
same problem dude i have been mewing for 1 years n my new tongue posture was causing me difficulty in breathing ..n hairfall also..because of less blood circulation
So, Ive just started mewing. My issue is if im doing this correctly. When I mew, it's as if im about to snore. Is that normal? Is my tongue correctly positioned?
I’ve been doing mewing for like 4-5 weeks now and my tongue is just always on my roof of my mouth now and at night I put more pressure on my pallet and I’m starting to see small changes and I’m excited to see the future.
Tristan Kwasny my pallet is wider now. My face has more visible bone structure, lost face fat (from the swallowing and chewing techniques). Look better overall. Try it if u wanna it’s pretty amazing.
I think a "senior" aim is to think of achieving a "flat dental plane" as you have said elsewhere wherein the plane created by the teeth closed is level, as in parallel to the floor .. this also draws the ears to above the shoulders, which aligns the neck.. I find this is helping give strength to the posterior of the tongue (to raise)
It's not too late. I'm in my forties and started mewing 8 months ago, and doing the McKenzie chin tuck almost daily. The changes have been extraordinary. My cheeks are more lifted and defined, double chin is gone, lips look fuller and my eyes look more 'awake'. It's a great feeling knowing that with time, my face is just going to look better. It's still early in my mewing journey, but people are always telling me I look better and ask if I've lost weight or 'done something'. Just educate yourself well on this topic and apply daily with discipline. You're going to see results.
Dude thank you so much i have been doing this thing for a while, i really believe in your idea because my mid face is beginning to show up. Does the amount of force to do this matters or our tongue should be just sitting there? And i think you should be getting some animation company to make animations of this thing. It would help people to understand this better
Thank you dr. I am so thankful for your knowledge and your will to spread awareness. I never heard about mewing until 2 weeks ago. I started doing it everyday and I already feel the slight changes in my face. I can feel muscles and the burn of them being worked out. Can’t wait to see how my face changes next year.
One more thing i have observed when i keep my posterior tongue on the roof apart from improving my voice is my chest feels its getting broader and the whole body gets straight up( like correcting the improper posture).. Chest getting broader is something i definitely feel it everytime i put a force in the posterior 3rd.
I heared that mouthbreathing also affects ribcage-size since narrower airways let less air trough ->less diaphram-activity. I was and still am sceptic about that since it doesn't make sence to me bc if your airways get narrower you either breathe more or change your way of breathing (through mouth). But what you say is interresting
@@rokosbasilisk5376 I can't believe my whole life I never learned any of this stuff (I'm 43) why don't they teach these things in school or better yet why don't doctors teach this especially if they see problems with bone development? I really hope I can do this at age 27. I’ve been doing it for about a year now but not properly. I hear you will only experience a change in your teens Anyone here have any success in their late 20s?
Lara Vezir I have the same issue. A year has passed have u ever figured out how to breath while mewing? Because I still can’t. I have an overbite as well
@@andrewgarfield9898 so basically I try to mew In the day, I try at night but my mouth just ends up opening when i sleep (I tried using a mask around my face to hold my jaw together but it was so unfcomfy and it didn't really work, I tried tape over my mouth as well but my lounge would just move forward) I haven't changed my posture when I eat or drink because i sit on the floor when i eat, apperently you can mew by saying "king" while smiling and keeping your tongue in the same position of the "ing" part, you don't have to put your tongue ALL the way back just have the general position good and don't clench your jaw infact it's good to relax your jaw muscles, if I had constant good posture and slept while mewing I would have had better results but I am lazy and I am making the braces do the most work
Lara Vezir wait so ur mewing with braces? Wouldn’t mewing work against the braces? I’m getting braces soon and wondering if I can still practice mewing with them on. And also how did you resolve the “not being able to breathe while mewing” problem because I can only mew for about 15 seconds before I have to stop to take another breath . Should I just keep doing this over and over until I can mew properly?
@@andrewgarfield9898 well for braces, if you don't have elastic bands I believe mewing should still work but if you have the elastic bands in mewing won't do much for bone structure but will still hold up the skin under your chin/neck, and it's ok you don't have to put your tongue so far back just do normal mewing so u can breathe and you might slowly adapt, I have done more research of mewing and the only evidence to support mewing is off social media accounts and sites (so far there is no scientific evidence to back this up) so all this could just be a con that only works for some people with certain genetics, at the end of the day surgery/ cosmetics/braces are the most reliable source
I noticed this aswell. Defo saw very quick improvement with this method the back teeth extended out sideways rather quickly and the burn was more intense when doing it in a forceful manner same as frontwords mewing.
Exactly. Start from from front teeth towards the back of throat moving left to right. At first you will get a gag reflex - that means you are moving to the correct position.
im really struggling to do this. i cant keep my tongue up if i cant breathe while doing this. How do i breathe while doing this so i can keep my tongue up longer? do i need to help my breathe for long periods of time with my tongue up until my airway opens or something? everytime i get my tongue up and try to breathe i can feel the back of my tongue fall down.
Bro o had the same shit for a few weeks.. I was so frustrated. But I'm now happy to share the way I dealt with this.. I dedicated most of my day to hold my tongue in the position where I can breath just slightly, it's like i was snoring. But I didn't give up and did it over and over again. When you are home or driving just do it for 30 minutes and snore, who gives a shit.. it's for your own good remember. In about a month you'll be able to breath if you work hard. Good luck!
When I' ve started I basecally did some " mew reps" 30/20 sec and then breath, because I just couldn' t while doing mewing. After a month I can breath but I still can't mew exactly as I want. In my opinion just give it time and don't give up.
I've been mewing seriously for 4 days now and I've learned so much. I was amazed when I put my body and tongue in good posture and felt my tongue rest naturally above my neck. I was able to relax everything and feel my tongue support the roof of my mouth mostly by itself. I've explored my soft palate and figured out how to mew fairly well. Is it just me, or do other mewers feel new sensations in their maxilla when mewing correctly? I think I feel my maxilla being stimulated. My biggest problem now is having to keep from pushing my tongue into my front teeth, refraining from clenching my jaw, and keeping the posterior third of my palate up. I won't say that I see any change in my looks, but I do think that having a good posture has had an effect on my ability to sing. When I have good neck and tongue posture, I'm able to sing with less strain in the upper registers. Before, it's been a lot harder to sing high notes (a problem I think developed ever since I had the habit of bad tongue posture for long enough years ago since when I was a kid). I'd always felt that I was going to have to accept having such round cheeks with no nice jaw or cheek bones and now I know I won't. Thank you so much, Dr. Mew, for sharing these very helpful findings with us people who are trying to be the best versions of ourselves!
@@verd0k147 so, I had gotten to a point where my cheek bones were defined, but I didn't have much development in my jaw muscles. I've learned that for me and my body, I need to go through the stimulation of doing exercise while having the good posture to get results. It also took more time for my body to "settle in" to the slowly developing form. It's amazing because I've been actually stimulating new muscles in my face that I'd never felt before. I now know that people with good jawlines and cheek bones feel a lot of muscles move in their face. Covid hit shortly after I figured this out. I'm still learning, but this information was needed in order for me to figure out how to do all of this.

You need real warrior mentality to do this. Especially if your palate is narrow. I'm 27 and i've taken control over my palate and can now after i couldn't 5 days ago put my whole toung up my palate. My overbite got better and mandible pushes foreward automatically giving me different bite. How much can my bite change as the mandible wants to push foreward?
yeah i was correct but not able to proof it.. after exercising a lot or going to gym for months most of the peoples face shape gets worse.. there lower jaw increase in wide and thera upper jaw gets bit hollow.. i think this is the reason after going to gym and not keeping tongue at palate will worsen the face shape more

I have already noticed changes in my cheeckbones, my teeth have gotten a little bit straighter, and my jaw has moved forward and gotten wider. Also my cheeks have became more hollow(got rid of chubby cheeks). I am very happy I came across mewing when I did, I will make an edit in a year if someone reply’s in a year. 10 month edit, My jawline has become much more prominent and I have no fat underneath my chin at a resting position, white talking I have a little bit of fat, and when eating there is quite a bit. Ive been doing this for a month now and find that top of my tongue naturally applies more force and this makes my front teeth and of course mandible lean forward. This makes mw feel like it's making my teeth go forward. Is this right? Furthermore as i apply the posterior third to my palate, i. Can feel a pushing force upwards in my face. Is this a sign that this is working?
Yes I would say do not let your tongue touch your front teeth though should stay behind on the curl across the top of your mouth then down behind the teeth
I just want to be clear. If I do what Mew states above (love him) and get my posterior 1/3 of my tongue sitting on the palate of my mouth at rest/when I swallow etc. - overall I will be improving my airway correct? I am 37 years old. FYI - I am doing oral myofunctional therapy now and having my posterior tongue tie released in two weeks with more oral myofunctional therapy (OMT) to follow. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply :) and yes I can still hear my breathing quite loudly (which somebody else also noticed), but after some time the gag reflex went away so I guess its how its supposed to be now

Its a good thing because you swallow more. Swallowing is gonna speed up your mewing process cuz when u swallow, the tongue puting upward force on maxilla

This is truly fascinating! I have one query, would correct tongue position address post nasal drip? This is something I've been dealing with for a number of years and it is quite a nuisance. Thank-you.
my face used to be symmetrical but since puberty my face has become asymmetrical with a crooked nose ,one side of mandible larger and shifted maxilla with malocclusion ... I am resting my tongue on the roof of my mouth with correct neck head and body posture for almost 2 years now but nothing seems to be working for me :(
The reason i said it is because there could have been imperfections to begin with but due to him being a child. The skull is different all features are smaller and harder to see imperfections.
I don't really think that's the case here, I know I''m personally much more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing on my childhood photos, with a functional, rounded face, and proper smiles, and it's fairly easy to tell that it is only later that my face started "melting" vertically, apparently due to incorrect posture.
Wetpig I know it because at the time of birth I didn't had any head abnormalities like plagiocephaly ,etc. and facial asymmetries thanks to photographs of different angles of mine ... in fact my face was used to be ideal like really ideal with perfect nose perfect cheekbones perfect face cut ... I remember since I started playing basketball I started to breath through my mouth and started to go out of city for tournaments and stuff and due to that I adopted allergies from dust and due to the allergies(according to doctors) I got deviated nasal septum and lives with it for like 4 years and during this 4 years this dns made my nose crooked too and as my nose started to shift towards left it took my whole face with it... after 4 years I got septoplasty surgery (which is non-plastic) to straighten my dns but outer nose remains the same and now my whole face is fucked
ive been seriously mewing for like 2 weeks and my airway is already slightly opened and I think my molars moved cause now I can fit my tongue on my mouth without touching my teeth

But I don't seem to get the problem of blocked airway at all...I was never a mouth breather but I had an issue of opening my mouth a lot of the times (didn't know dropping your jaw is bad...) any help is appreciated :)
Trust me I had a double jaw surgery and I only needed mandíbular advancment , by advancing the upper jaw the cheeks Become bigger before I had hollow cheeks and a square jaw after bimax I was left with oval jaw and puffy cheeks and it’s been a year
How hard can/should I push with the posterior of my tongue into the area to close off the esophagus? I'm currently pushing hard enough that I can feel the base of my skull realign with my neck. The tension on the back of my neck is incredible when I do this for repetitions.
I have a slight overbite. When doing this should I put my teeth in the correct position touching each other, or the natural overbite position? Also will all of this cure my slight overbite. Secondly when I do this I feel a vibrating in my throats and its hard to breathe and makes a noise. Will this go away over time? Even if I only do this for 6 hours a day because I cannot breathe like this at school.
Samuel Torbet yea I commented this on some of his videos and dr mew replied. However he was rude basically saying he won't give me advice because I'm not paying him. Then talking about how he is a doctor ect and not a " youtuber "
Okay..im confused...i have a narrow pallet and the roof of my mouth is really really high already...SO.. Wouldn't pushing my tongue on the roof of my mouth all the time make it higher and my pallet even more narrow?
Instead..shouldn't I be pushing my tongue outwards so its pushing the insides of the top teeth out..not up. Therefore making a wider pallet and not a higher more narrow pallet? What am I missing?
Doctor Mew, when I get the suck hold and the right tongue posture I just can't breathe. So should I release my tongue while breathing then correct the posture and hold my breath as long as I can?
Please reply dr, is extraction a good idea to fix bi-maxillary protrusion. My bi-max protrusion is not super obvious but I can't close my lips together without force. Also, I have no gap in my teeth to retract teeth without extraction.
If you haven't figured it out yet, clench your teeth and then relax it a small amount, so your teeth are touching but you're not really biting down hard. That way your lower jaw will sort of move with the changes of the upper.
Is it ok if i move my tongue a liiiil bit forward? Just about like milimeter or so. I just cant breathe and i dont really want to have problem bsc of that lol
Guys whenever i try to mew im not able to breathe. It became like i need to hold my breath and then start mewing. Guys plz tell me how to mew or is it common for eveyone
then mewing will probably do more damage than good, you need to expand your mouth space first through appliances or surgery. Or, of course, maybe you're not mewing correctly
Do you guys think, changing overall neck and body posture could open up the airway? Making it easier for the posterior third of the tongue to press again the soft palate without obstructing the airway? Has anyone experiences any positive changes in this direction? Cheers. Wishing you guys well.
Unless something has gone wrong toddlers do this naturally. What could wrong? Premature birth, sinus congestion, non- nutritive sucking, soft foods, premature tooth loss and possibly imitation of others with mouth breathing habits.
Why do I suffer neck pain at the instance of mewing?.. It's just so common especially carefully doing chin tuck... Mike I would appreciate an answer because some of us experience this...
so if i can breathe normally and have proper neck posture my airway has expanded ? My forehead looks smaller and the angle of eyebrows points straight instead of upward now does this mean ive had up and forward change?

Did you have a narrow palate to begin with? And how well did your tongue fit in their to begin with too?
So, Ive just started mewing. My issue is if im doing this correctly. When I mew, it's as if im about to snore. Is that normal? Is my tongue correctly positioned?
@@chache516 well?? was it?
Did your sleep apnea improve?
I’ve been doing mewing for like 4-5 weeks now and my tongue is just always on my roof of my mouth now and at night I put more pressure on my pallet and I’m starting to see small changes and I’m excited to see the future.
How's the future lookin like?
Yea I wonder how that’s going for you ??
Tristan Kwasny my pallet is wider now. My face has more visible bone structure, lost face fat (from the swallowing and chewing techniques). Look better overall. Try it if u wanna it’s pretty amazing.
@@Petdubwhat are the chewing techniques? i only know about proper swalloing
YoFabz keep your lips relaxed like don’t scrunch them to move your food around. Use your tongue as much as possible to move your food around.
Im 49 I hope its not too late
It's not too late. I'm in my forties and started mewing 8 months ago, and doing the McKenzie chin tuck almost daily. The changes have been extraordinary. My cheeks are more lifted and defined, double chin is gone, lips look fuller and my eyes look more 'awake'. It's a great feeling knowing that with time, my face is just going to look better. It's still early in my mewing journey, but people are always telling me I look better and ask if I've lost weight or 'done something'. Just educate yourself well on this topic and apply daily with discipline. You're going to see results.
Genetics matter, too. We can't all have the Brad Pitt jawline, but we can all avoid ugliness and jaw weakness.
@@TheRegalWoman this is the kind of comment i like to see

Dude thank you so much i have been doing this thing for a while, i really believe in your idea because my mid face is beginning to show up. Does the amount of force to do this matters or our tongue should be just sitting there? And i think you should be getting some animation company to make animations of this thing. It would help people to understand this better
Updates?
Did you continue and did you notice further improvements?
@kevin. Do you have to have your back teeth connecting when your biting down?
@Kevin you are correct.. in another video he said if you are pressing too hard that can cause TMJ
@@hmhih100 yes but do not bite them down hard together, just make sure that the tongue stays INSIDE of the teeth while applying pressure.

Judging by your pic you already fucking gorgeous, woman, you don't need these tips
any update/?
Oh that's right more problems = more money for them.
I've been struggling with improper posture, misformed bone structure, breathing issues, all kinds of problems.. ever since I was a little girl and nobody explained any of this to me.
@@merncat75 I get angry very often at orthodontists since they actually know what mouthbreathing causes and never educate people about the consequences and while Mike Mew sometimes talks shit imo I would really wish him on something big as the Joe Rogan Podcast since he fights for the right thing and I just wish to see a shockwave being spreaded about how many jawproblems really are caused.

@@backtr1ggs I'm 16 and I have an overbite but I do put mew in the day but I currently have braces
@@andrewgarfield9898 well for braces, if you don't have elastic bands I believe mewing should still work but if you have the elastic bands in mewing won't do much for bone structure but will still hold up the skin under your chin/neck, and it's ok you don't have to put your tongue so far back just do normal mewing so u can breathe and you might slowly adapt, I have done more research of mewing and the only evidence to support mewing is off social media accounts and sites (so far there is no scientific evidence to back this up) so all this could just be a con that only works for some people with certain genetics, at the end of the day surgery/ cosmetics/braces are the most reliable source
exploring the posterior third from left to right also helps
I noticed this aswell. Defo saw very quick improvement with this method the back teeth extended out sideways rather quickly and the burn was more intense when doing it in a forceful manner same as frontwords mewing.
Exactly. Start from from front teeth towards the back of throat moving left to right. At first you will get a gag reflex - that means you are moving to the correct position.

Me too! pls somebody answer this guy
You’re probably putting it back to far remember the tip of you’re tongue should be a little bit behind your top front teeth
Good luck!
@@NationalPK ill keep this in mind thank you
When I' ve started I basecally did some " mew reps" 30/20 sec and then breath, because I just couldn' t while doing mewing.
How did this turn out?

Yes I would say do not let your tongue touch your front teeth though should stay behind on the curl across the top of your mouth then down behind the teeth

my face used to be symmetrical but since puberty my face has become asymmetrical with a crooked nose ,one side of mandible larger and shifted maxilla with malocclusion ... I am resting my tongue on the roof of my mouth with correct neck head and body posture for almost 2 years now but nothing seems to be working for me :(
How do you know your face was symmetrical when you were younger?
There's this wonderful thing called photography...

How does it feel when the tongue gets into the airway? Is it a bit like a swallowing feeling on the beginning of the soft palate?
Well, is it? You ever find out?
I cant breath while mewing
Do a swallow and lower your tongue slightly that's it's still in your airway a little bit but you can still breathe somewhat comfortably
If I weren't decent at beatboxing I don't think this would feel as easy for me.

Can someone give some tips on how to posture the jaw?
If you haven't figured it out yet, clench your teeth and then relax it a small amount, so your teeth are touching but you're not really biting down hard. That way your lower jaw will sort of move with the changes of the upper.
