I've been following you for quite some time, but I have a few questions. One is, what would you say is the optimal sleeping position for keeping good posture? I've read that ancient Indians used a special flat board to lay on which kept the baby's mouth from falling open. Also I read that sleeping on your left side helps organs to work more efficiently, but I have adopted sleeping on my back as the most effective (I think). I noticed it's harder to breathe when laying on my side/back and it could mess up joints in the shoulder in the long run. What are your thoughts on this? BTW I love y'all and everything y'all are doing. Keep up the good work. : )

He won't reply so I'll tell you my guy... you've got to float. It's a little uncomfortable at first but you'll get used to it. Arms crossed against chest, legs straight, mid air... it's the only way to ensure no body parts are strained or contorted. You're welcome (:
Man this feels like natural portion control as I eat much slower in general even attempting to swallow my food this way + chewing through it properly. Before I was vortexing down chunks of barely chewed food. E: You'll notice it's hard to swallow food this way if it's not chewed through properly.
Yeah you have to suck. You suck without using the cheek muscles and then scoop up the saliva with your tongue as you gather it together with the suction. Use the front part of your tongue (Mike Mew calls it the tongue sweep and there's a video on it on this channel,) and then swallow with your tongue against the roof of your mouth. The key idea is to swallow against the roof of the mouth without using the cheek muscles at any stage in the process. It takes a lot of practise if you're new to it to get it right.
i tried having proper tongue posture on and off for couple years, and I think I finally achieve it. For me, when I have the proper tongue posture I feel a muscle near the chin sore because I never use them!
I think i'm doing it incorrectly, but I don't know what my mistake is. My problem is that when swallowing I'm just not able to swallow saliva 'cause it isn't on my tongue, so I swallow a tiny amount of it and the rest starts to acumulate on my mouth. I feel like I have to use my buccinators to put the saliva in the right place or like I have to move my tongue around my mouth to get the saliva on my tongue and then be able to swallow it. What am I supost to do? (Sorry for my english)
It seems the general rule is that you should use your tongue to scoop up saliva instead of trying to suck all the saliva back. But I think you make a good point. Although *some* saliva can be scooped up and then swallowed with an undulating motion of the tongue, there is also saliva that will tend to accumulate elsewhere in the mouth. For example, some of the saliva is going to pool between the molars and the cheeks with no easy way to scoop it up with the tongue. You will need some slight buccinator engagement to collect this saliva. No one swallows with 100% tongue and no one swallows with 100% buccinator. Perhaps a more accurate way to think about it is moving from a buccinator-dominant technique to a tongue-dominant technique.
@@poleag Hi could you please help me with this? I am not sure how to collect the saliva from the bottom of my mouth, I tried the tongue sweep, but I start to get sensitive front teeth from touching the front teeth while trying to do the tongue sweep, please help!
This is how I already swallow but when i try to put my tongue back on the roof of my mouth, it goes down to my teeth and pushes against them. This forces me to “reset” it, and I’m forced to open my mouth and let the air of then I put my tongue on top of my mouth
I have a slight overbite. When doing this should I put my teeth in the correct position touching each other, or the natural overbite position? Also will all of this cure my slight overbite. Secondly when I do this I feel a vibrating in my throats and its hard to breathe and makes a noise. Will this go away over time? Even if I only do this for 6 hours a day because I cannot breathe like this at school.
3 things I'm gonna do to fix my slight asymmetry: 1. Close lips 2. Rest molars on molars 3. Rest tongue on roof and when swallowing tuck chin in to swallow
I have never realized until now that my overbite, upper and lower teeth misalignment are significant. I breathe through nose usually, but I often snore during sleep, especially when tired. I have Sinusitis for almost 10 years. I tried swallowing with tongue touching palate, but the lower teeth and jaw keep returning to their abnormal old position. Should one align their upper and lower teeth while swallowing in the correct way?
currently watching, Your teaching style is very targeting to me :D. I am spreading the message as a personal trainer, overall health instructor i would even say hahah
I still don't understand where the tongue should be, the tip behind the teeth or the rough part of the mouth? Either way my tongue goes flat and spreads touching my teeth on both sides! Is it wrong?
this is so hard! i have tmj deviation ever since wisdomtooth surgery, adn my jaw and face on right side and under tongue is SSOOO soore and tiight. i might look into a tongue tie doctor in case thats what it is but im sure this will be helpful too. So when you use the correct muscles to push the tongue against theroof of the mouth (ive only had the tip on the roof of my mouth thus far) should you feel a tightening down under the chin, like the skin under your chin rising up?
I just practiced swallowing the way you had her doing it.. i felt stuck after doing it right three times and felt like i literally couldn't swallow. I had to stretch my throat out. Then i did it correctly again twice more and its like a phyicsl change has occurred. Having the back third of my tongue up now isnt causing the retriction it was. What the heck just happened.
I don't understand at all his advice and exercises to swallow correctly but wish I could. Is there any quality animation out there that shows the action from inside the mouth, with the corresponding anatomy parts he refers to?
You can also initiate the swallow by keeping the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth, on the n spot, and suck in the saliva, by lowering the mid and back part. When collected on top of the tongue, you can let your tongue connect as a whole to the roof of the mouth again and (then again in a wave like motion) swallow the saliva. Is this swallowing technique: 1 superior to the swallow initiated by the tongue swoop, 2 equivalent in its effect on dentoalveolar and skeletal development or 3 inferior, i.e. it has downsides for growing and maintaining a good dentoskelatal relationship?
The thing with these videos is you take something fairly simple just hard to form a habit and over complicate it which overwhelms me and turns me away could you please make a shorter video on what to do and if we have further questions we can look back on this

He won't reply so I'll tell you my guy... you've got to float. It's a little uncomfortable at first but you'll get used to it. Arms crossed against chest, legs straight, mid air... it's the only way to ensure no body parts are strained or contorted. You're welcome (:
sleep on your right side

-Hey your crush is looking
Me -What do I do ?!
- swallow normally
Me : 8:51
thank you dr Mew, what a nice way to check people's tongue position
I came looking for a video and.ended up questioning my entire life, i dont even know how to swallow..who am i
8:06 ".....understood?" and look the woman's face wanted to laught about his face lol
04:18 when he said pheromones i was like wtf
Hahahaha! I heard that and I was like whaaaaat? I saw your comment and just busted up laughing.
Man this feels like natural portion control as I eat much slower in general even attempting to swallow my food this way + chewing through it properly. Before I was vortexing down chunks of barely chewed food.
E: You'll notice it's hard to swallow food this way if it's not chewed through properly.
Beetroot Soup noticed that too
So even when you chew and swallow solids, the tongue is still right behind front teeth touching the roof?
@@AerisVera7I would like to know also
There should be a video which doesnt contain any information and only what we need to do and how
yes...an animated drawing would help too. I can't perfect that sweep thing. I am not sure how the wave is supposed to go.
*Why this micro? so interesting but the sound is so disturbing. Please update this video with animation feature.*
I've always done this but it's really interesting to hear it described and actually sit & think it through
May you explain it I can’t get it
I don't understand, are you supposed to produce saliva without sucking? I can swallow without my lips together but my mouth becomes very dry.
commenting for the answer*
Yes that's my question, do we have to suck? At the top to get saliva ?
Yeah you have to suck. You suck without using the cheek muscles and then scoop up the saliva with your tongue as you gather it together with the suction. Use the front part of your tongue (Mike Mew calls it the tongue sweep and there's a video on it on this channel,) and then swallow with your tongue against the roof of your mouth.
The key idea is to swallow against the roof of the mouth without using the cheek muscles at any stage in the process. It takes a lot of practise if you're new to it to get it right.
Gray that's hard honestly. even doing so, I always use cheek strenght to perform it or get the tongue out of the roof to collect the saliva.
are you supposed to keep the teeth together?
I like the ending, these muscles are for facial expressions, not for swallowing.
i tried having proper tongue posture on and off for couple years, and I think I finally achieve it.
J 21 .
I have a slight overbite too. When I chew my jaw clicks.
Y Khan fuck, so that's why my jaw clicks...
Der Panda dunno if that's the reason though. Maybe it is.
Have you guys found out yet?
3 things I'm gonna do to fix my slight asymmetry:
1. Close lips
2. Rest molars on molars
Should one align their upper and lower teeth while swallowing in the correct way?
this mewing stuf getting of the charts in 2021
currently watching, Your teaching style is very targeting to me :D. I am spreading the message as a personal trainer, overall health instructor i would even say hahah
been doing this for a year now and my jaw is definetly bigger and sharper, never taught it would work tbh
I still don't understand where the tongue should be, the tip behind the teeth or the rough part of the mouth? Either way my tongue goes flat and spreads touching my teeth on both sides! Is it wrong?
Help!
if the side of the tongue slip between your teeth a little bit u got a narrow palette, idk how it can be fixed
Wondering about Mike's familiarity with Leonora & Steinman ...
Dr Mike sounds perfect on 2x
Why do the comments say 3 years ago but the video was published September last year ?
Don’t get me wrong I’m very grateful that this information is free but why the heck does it sound like it was filmed with a rock
I did not understand the sweeping pattern. Did anyone? Other than that, thanks for the great work, Dr Mew and Dr Mew!
thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank you! 🙏❤This is very helpful!
Thank you alot doctor Mike mew for introducing me to mewing it has helped me a lot in correcting my jaw.
Is the tounge on the n point while mewing too or more forward?
I’m struggling to eat solid foods without tongue thrusting as a swallow.
this is so hard! i have tmj deviation ever since wisdomtooth surgery, adn my jaw and face on right side and under tongue is SSOOO soore and tiight. i might look into a tongue tie doctor in case thats what it is but im sure this will be helpful too. So when you use the correct muscles to push the tongue against theroof of the mouth (ive only had the tip on the roof of my mouth thus far) should you feel a tightening down under the chin, like the skin under your chin rising up?
Very hard but worth it
it is so hard to visualize this.-.
What the heck just happened.
can you elaborate how to do ?
I don't understand at all his advice and exercises to swallow correctly but wish I could. Is there any quality animation out there that shows the action from inside the mouth, with the corresponding anatomy parts he refers to?
7:34 who else took a sip of water at this moment and drown with it?
How do you swallow food at the bottom or sides of ur mouth tho without using ur cheek muscles?
I can never seem to scoop up remaining water without suction or movement in my face. Its bloody hard, almost feels impossible :/
I’m having a clicking sound in my throat when I am swallowing like this - any tips anyone?
Can u film this again with better audio and exiplan to us ?
I have mewed for 5 years believe me mewing is very helpfull to get good facil forward growth,, ... ...
prove it
Great video thanks doc.
The thing with these videos is you take something fairly simple just hard to form a habit and over complicate it which overwhelms me and turns me away could you please make a shorter video on what to do and if we have further questions we can look back on this
Thanks a lot for the video! :)
You can see that the first audience of Orthotropics were incels and looksmaxxers. Almost all the comments before 2 years ago all have incel-ly terms. I don't have anything against them. I am a looksmaxxer myself but just wanted to point it out.
Thank you for this knowledge! What is your opinion on permanent retainers? Should they be removed? I am not expecting a definite yes or no; A weak answer is perfectly sufficient for myself.
dafuq2013 he’s said that fixed retainers that go along 4-5 teeth would be the best to get, but not the full mouth clear ones. Bc they stunt your bone structure fixing, and moving out.
set playback speed to x1.25, you're welcome
Whenever I heard the complaints of my mother or grandma how some pills are too big or hard to swallow I did not know there was a wrong way to swallow and thought its just psychological.
Curious to know how pills being too hard or big is related to swallowing?
Did she learn to swallow in the end?
