      Go to an orofacial myologist instead - can help with adults sleep apnoea and kids to prevent braces/crowded teeth. It's all about prevention :D . Even if treatment of crooked teeth is SHORTENED I think some myofunctional therapy is highly worthwhile due to the correlation of dental caries and orthodontic braces.

    I’m 27 years old. Mouth breather before I started mouth taping at night. I’ve been mouth taping and consciously keeping good tongue posture for almost 2 months now. I don’t know how on earth at my age and so quickly I have noticed a huge difference in my face in pictures my smile is more symmetrical when studying my lips. I never had crooked teeth and also I was born with only 14 teeth on top and I have the 16 on the bottom. Even my right eyebrow looks higher. Which is amazing because it always looked lower and asymmetrical. This is 2 months! Incredible advice and information! I hope I can keep this up my confidence has soared!

      mewing takes up to 4 years to see actual facial changes, what are you talking about lmao

    • @mistersoman
      @mistersoman 3 года назад +85

      @@iavreN It depends on the person. If you don't have any problem with your facial structure such as downswing mentioned in the video then the differences might occur over years. But if you have a terrible facial structure due to not putting your tongue on top then you might see changes more quick. As your body starts adapting to the new posture. My face had significant changes over 3 months and been mewing for more than a year now and seeing slighter changes to my face but not as much as the first 3 months. My facial shape was pretty bad and my jaw was so much more receded. It's kinda crazy how my jaw looks now compared to my old photos.

    • @god1284
      @god1284 3 года назад +57

      @@iavreN That's not true at all. It takes years for significant change in bone structure but if you stick to it and do it correctly you'll see changes in months. Because if you didn't previously mew, you would've had weak and inactive muscles in your face that you now use and they'll make your face look better, and the mouth's upper pallet can change shape extremely easily in a not too long amount of time. I've been mewing for 3 months and when I look at before and after photos I can see that my face is wider, my face is less droopy and eye sockets look a bit bigger, loose jowls have tightened and jaw comes out a bit more forward. Also 3 months ago I had barely any room to fit my tongue on my upper pallet but with some careful thumb pulling my pallet is a lot wider. People have commented on my face saying that I'm glowing up and looking better. This is literally only 3 months, my eye sockets have only started to come out very recently and my jaw is still in early development and still there's already a fair bit of improvement. My breathing is also way better, airways have opened up significantly, sinus issues have gone away. I'm 14 btw so my face is more malleable than an adult but less than a younger child.

      Im portuguese :) I don't think they're evil, i think its all about pride, afraid of change, afraid of failure, and lazyness in general. Most Orthodontics doctors said to me that facial asymmetry is normal. Yep its normal in way but they say that just to cover their ignorance and trying to give me an idea that beauty is not much of an important matter. IT'S SO WRONG! It's normal to have a eye bigger than the other maybe one cheeck slighty different from the other but when this differences are bigger its not normal and Orthodontics doctors dont care about that. At least most of the Orthodontics doctors that i know. But i dont think it's 100% their fault either. I think this subject of facial development is something that is not taugh in dentistry college, or at least is not having a proper attention. Facial beauty is important, proper facial beauty can make us more healthy can make us more happy, can make us more social, make us more confident with ourselves. Beauty shouldn't be seen as a superficial subject.Orthodontics shouldn't be just fixing teeth, it's should be much more than that...and you guys have the power and knowledge to change that!

      @@hehheh1204 Braces stretch your face and elongate it, since by pulling the teeth without fixing the face it forces the face downwards alongside them. If you have extremely fucked up teeth it might be worth getting braces, but if not you might be better off using mewing so that your face develops with a forward projection. Remember, if you have a fucked up face your teeth will return to the same position as before once braces are removed (Since the face caused those issues in the first place, and will therefore cause them again later), but if you fix your face it will pull your teeth into the correct position naturally. It's for this reason that if you ever do get braces, you should do mewing at the same time to counteract the face elongation as it happens, but you will need some mighty strength.

This channel has actually changed my life and my face is so much better than before. Thank you so much for educating me on this. I never knew this was a real medical thing but when i was 15 and became aware of my social anxiety and mouth breathing and lazy resting face, and started to consciously lift my chin and lift my eyebrows and got some nose spray for my stupid tight nose channels, my face totally changed.
    If you an introvert and you're always looking down at a drawing pad and not thinking about how you breathe or how you communicate with your face.. well you're gonna look like that... and then it determines how people view you and who you think you are... Not that there's anything wrong with being that, I'm still a proud introvert and spend most of my time drawing, but it fucking sucks when people take one look at you and decide you're stupid or asocial. I'm glad i got to reverse some of it and found out I'm not completely incompetent socially i was just in a bad circle.

    The Orthotropic principles have helped both of my children already. My son would mouth breath at night due to allergies. His face started to grow longer and his chin receded. No medical provider ever pointed out the problem of mouth breathing or facial growth, although I took him to many specialists for allergies and dental care. Finally, I came across Dr. John Mew's interview as I was looking to an alternative for surgery. We resolved his allergies so he could breathe with his mouth closed. Within a month of starting myofunctional therapy, his tongue was (mostly) up. It's still a training struggle. Then he started chewing hard food every day (raw veggies, dried mango, Falim gum, and even silicone chewies.) He looked dramatically different just by getting his tongue up, then the chewing was a dramatic change. He's proud of his jawline for the first time in his life. All of the orthodontists that I consulted recommended some combination of braces, extractions or surgery. Before finding Dr. Mew's work, he had braces and was preparing for surgery. Braces retracted his maxilla and flattened his face. He started having severe TMJ pain. I finally had the braces taken off mid-treatment, and his TMJ pain resolved within 2 days. I am so sad and angry that people are profiting from harming our children. We need to support Dr. Mew's effort to make parents aware that they can help their children through simple habits. There is no money to be made in espousing chewing, tongue positions and good posture. Both John and Mike Mew are doing this to help children they have never met - and at a tremendous personal cost. They have my gratitude and support.

      Yes and no. Be careful about doctors, but give more freedom to health insurers! The former profit if their customers are sick; the latter profit if their customers stay healthy. Capitalism optimizes very effectively, but only for the exact job you give it. Therefore, the flow of money should favor those whose interests align with the general public.
      It's silly to blame capitalism when it's used in a nonsensical way. That's like watching someone smash a window with a hammer, and then blaming the hammer and calling for a ban on hammers.

I highly recommend it, do some research on ‘myobrace’, theres 3 stages and it helps you place your tongue on the roof of your mouth. It was a game changer for me... I used to have a narrow smile, an overbite and recessed jaw and now my teeth are wider, I have a normal bite and they’re all straight. Each stage takes 6-8 months. I’m still on the second stage. Lmk if you have any other questions!

    This video had me on the verge of tears. Why? Dr. Mike connected the dots between my lifelong facial insecurities and my sleep disorder, and simultaneously gave me hope to do something about my situation. I no longer have to just be grateful I have a face while secretly struggling to accept that I am bound to a fate dictated solely by genetics. I can be grateful AND be empowered, knowing that I am more of an agent in the direction my body takes than I had ever previously imagined. Maybe I can prevent the grief I faced in the lives of others, of those whom I love. Dr. Mike also illustrated a common thread in the state of the medical community, academia, politics, and in greater society. It is a sad reality, and quite amazing, yet not all that shocking, how much the sense of scarcity can bring about the worst in us, of which greed is particularly prominent and long lived. But at the same time, Dr. Mike makes vividly clear the conviction shared by both he and his father. It is evident by their years of research, dedication, and actions. The two share much of their knowledge freely, although they surely deserve value in return for the greater value provided. Dr. Mike calls upon us to combat misinformation and ignorance even if by simply sharing a different point of view. That’s the way I see it. To have an honest conversation so that we may ask questions-have an open mind. That is what the world truly needs. This is a genuine man with a genuine will to do good for others. How could I not be moved?

      Umesh Maniyar I read the book “6 foot tiger 3 foot cage” by Dr. Felix Liao. The book explains what the problem with deficient jaws is and how to fix it. I traveled to Dr.Liao’s office and was treated by him using an oral appliance that makes your jaw wider every night. After one year of wearing the appliance, my life has improved incredibly. I have A LOT more energy everyday. I started having so much energy, I couldn’t believe it. I am more confident and less anxious. I can actually focus now, and for longer times. I am not depressed anymore, I stopped feeling so angry all the time and I stopped having so many negative thoughts all the time. Bad things that happen in life or bad things somebody says, stopped bothering me. My looks also improved, a little. I believe my face aesthetics would have improved even more if I had done the treatment as a teenager or child. I was treated at 22.

    I remember I saw a guy making a video about this,
    That breathing with am open mouth makes your face go down
    And I also remember that all of the comment section was like "he doesn't have real proof, there is no medical proof of that"
    And now I see why, because like you said, preventing the problem doesn't earn money...
    This is amazing how our world works, I hope people will see more of this and will learn to prevent the problem themselves. Thank you.

    now i understand and i wish i got the right treatment/prevention earlier...i also always considered plastic surgery which is obviously not the best... thank you for this informative video! i hope awareness spreads even further!

    This all makes so much sense. I had felt naturally inclined to “solutions” like the ones you described, but I didn’t have any “evidence” or reason to go in that direction. It’s crazy how much we have to unlearn because of our society. I have always had terrible snoring, blocked airways, and had to mouth-breathe. I hated how my face sloped, and wasn’t beautiful pronounced. I wondered if there were anything in the world I could possibly do. I just decided to start trying to breathe through my nose primarily. I made the conscious effort to no longer mouth breathe. I can’t really control yet what I do while I sleep, but I make to effort while awake. Looking in the mirror the other day, I thought to myself that my facial structure looked evermore so pronounced, and less sloped. I thought that it must just be wishful thinking because “surely nose-breathing for the summer couldn’t have had that much of an effect”... This video confirms my hunch. How can I thank you enough for sharing this information and truly trying to help fellow people!! Please continue your work. It helps me to live an easier, more pleasant and, Lord-willing, longer life!

    So glad I found this channel! I have noticed over the years how my face has changed and as the years have gone on I’ve begun to hate the way I look. In my young teens I was always called pretty etc but as I’ve aged I’ve noticed how those comments have slowly gone away, to the point where I’ve had comments about how my face looks negatively. I’m now 25 and if I can make improvements then great, even preventing anything getting worse is better than nothing. I’ve been trying so hard to breathe through my nose and have made great progress. @@ayad3834 oh hey! I mean, potentially? I did get into the habit of sticking my tongue at the top of my palate, so if that's what mewing is (I don't have a full memory of what this vid's about) I've been doing it fairly regularly since then.
      Let's see, I will say that I reckon I got a bit hotter-- I MEAN, have "improved" my "facial posture" - in the past year (lord this is weird, but I guess it's... science..) Whether that's specifically because of the "mewing" or simply that quarantine and I happen to get along like a house on fire (or the hidden third option: it's all self-delusion), I can't really say.
      I'm meeting up with an ex this weekend for the first time in about ten months, so I'll get their opinion on my evolving uh "facial posture" lol.
      The raised monitor definitely helped with my neck aches though, so can 10/10 recommend that.

    Everything you say makes 100% sense and I am seeing more and more information out in the world on MEW- my orthodontist told me at 12 years old there was no point to getting braces since I talked and swallowed with my tongue against my teeth and my tongue would push them forward again and essentially undo the work of the braces in a few years. I decided to get braces at age 32 about and now at 38 I can see my teeth moving forward once again, never having known how to effectively change my tongue position and movement when swallowing/resting tongue position (definitely been on the lower part of my mouth for the longest time). I suffer snoring and blocked airway and nose. My teeth are bad. This is all so great and eye opening! Wonderful work please keep it up to help others and raise awareness. I would have been so happy to watch this 30 years ago.
