I don’t know about the US, but I think maybe most British rocks stars coming out of the 60s and 70s were working class. Being in a band wasn’t really something folks with means did back then.
They were all WWII kids and suffered the hardships of Hitler's war on the world. Many of them lost parents in the war. They knew what the Blues were about.
In the early 60s the TV was even more conservative than it is today. The producers always told the R&R stars to tone it down to a white homogenized frequency. Lol lol. You will note that all the wild stars would give a conservative performance. Look at the Beatles, Stones , Yardbirds, the were all so well groomed that every single hair was in place lol. This performance by the Animals is actually wild for the TV fashion of those days.

Hey pops, I'm a 17 years old little man loving The Animals' music. I assure you people my age still listening to these kinds of music. Now, I didn't want to be impolite. I don't actually speak English so I don't really know if I said it OK. I wanted to sound "rebel" but I don't know how to do it because I'm not like that. Pops is like little grandpa or something like that right? In Spanish is "Abue" or "Abuelito" which means, as you can tell, grandfather lul. Heh, I'm embarrassing myself writing this so take care.
It's very odd that English bands in the 60s taught kids about the Blues, something that Black musicians in the U.S. had been doing for decades. We neved paid attention to them until British bands covered their music.
I think they are lip syncing this performance. I think that was common back then. There is no way those mics would pick up those voices that powerfully from those distances. In the studio, they would be right up to those mics.
@@raymondgriffiths9409 No, that was the bass player Chas Chandler who brought him back to England because he wasn't appreciated in 'murica! He played with Eric Clapton at one of his 1st gigs over there and it is safe to say he left a fair impression and formed a band with 2 English musicians!
Much respect to all Vietnam Vets. Thank you for your service. I'm a 65 year old female & I was still in grade school when this song came out. I had two older brothers in junior/senior year of high school that listened to this song on repeat so it quickly became a favorite of mine. I have been singing this song to myself (and sometimes softly out loud) so my co-workers can hear me, at almost every job I have ever had in my life. lol. It always makes me smile no matter how bad the day is going. My colleagues are usually not familiar with the song but it always puts a smile on their faces too.
Most people thought this music would be gone when it left the Billboard charts. I am grateful that it lives on. I played lead guitar in local rock bands in high school and college. We basked in the glow of artists like these.
The first time I heard this on the radio back in 1965, I was blown away. Burdon's raw voice was singing the feelings in my soul. I was about 18 and had left a violent home life and facing the great unknown. It was good to know someone was feeling similar things and could paint the pictures the way I saw them. The Animals were the heroes of the downtrodden.

Pops is like little grandpa or something like that right? In Spanish is "Abue" or "Abuelito" which means, as you can tell, grandfather lul. Heh, I'm embarrassing myself writing this so take care.
@@ismaelmeltgomez8662 your English is great! Btw i’m sixteen listening to this to!
Yep Charlie...I can definitely relate...
Yes! That's true!
Burdon sang effortlessly, just a perfect rocker without the filth of today. Just pure charisma.
This BAND & E. BURDON revolutionized R&R Blues! Feels just like the WORLD we are living in TODAY...
It's very odd that English bands in the 60s taught kids about the Blues, something that Black musicians in the U.S. had been doing for decades. We neved paid attention to them until British bands covered their music.
This band was absolutely amazing. No other words really.
Jerry Watkins You realize there actually are more words, right? Your comment isn't original.
+John Startop neither is yours. what's your point?

Wow! Eric Burden’s voice is so powerful and moving. It reaches right into your soul.
It is a dream of mine to watch The Animals and The Doors play together... I hope all my rockers make it to Heaven along with myself 🙏
He seems to put no effort into his singing, and yet his voice is so powerful. It's hard to believe that voice is coming out of him. I love this band.
I think they are lip syncing this performance. I think that was common back then. There is no way those mics would pick up those voices that powerfully from those distances. In the studio, they would be right up to those mics.
Miming
He’s lip syncing for the video.
Eric's Burdon's voice is just so soulful, and he looks like a teen!!!
And he was also the manager
of Jimmy Hendrix legend mate pure and simple
@@raymondgriffiths9409 No, that was the bass player Chas Chandler who brought him back to England because he wasn't appreciated in 'murica! He played with Eric Clapton at one of his 1st gigs over there and it is safe to say he left a fair impression and formed a band with 2 English musicians!
Brilliant lyrics
He was around 24 in this clip.
Rick Astley!!
Born in 1952... Eric defines my generation.
one of the most powerful singers of the 60's and 70's
The first time I heard this on the radio back in 1965, I was blown away. Burdon's raw voice was singing the feelings in my soul. I was about 18 and had left a violent home life and facing the great unknown. It was good to know someone was feeling similar things and could paint the pictures the way I saw them. The Animals were the heroes of the downtrodden.
RIP the two members of The Animals
Chas Chandler (December 18, 1938 - July 17, 1996), aged 57
Hilton Valentine (May 21, 1943 - January 29, 2021), aged 77
You both will always be remembered as legends.
Chas Chandler, had high potential, as a Music 🎶 Director and Producer, It's too bad him And Hendrix could not get back together and work on the 4 Album...
Add to that list Dave Rowberry (July 4, 1940 - June 6, 2003), aged 62. Not a founder-member, but replaced Alan Price on keyboards from 1965 and featured on several of their best-known hits.. That's him playing in this clip.
I remember seeing this as a kid on our black and white TV, I think this is from the movie IT'S A BIKINI WORLD.
Chas was an EXCELLENT Bassist and way ahead of many from his era,....
@@natewhite455He didn't do too bad with Slade in the early 70s
Eric Burdon has a great voice, like so many singers in the 60's bands - never realized it until later! The 60's music is the best - love ALL of it - makes me cry - thank God for all those great singers/musicians!
Yes British Invasion , add Motown and surf music the 60’svmusic is the soundtrack of my “ wonder years” ( and many others)

Holy crap! True legend in the music industry!!!
What a fucking talented genius he is. So raw and from the tried and raunchy and groovy omg I can't believe it's taken me this long in lockdown to get to this place 😱😂🤖🤷
Month of the Snake (Taurus) Year of the Metal Snake 1941. Another Double Snake is Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
Holy crap, where did the years go ? Eric, 79 ?, tell me it ain't so.
Should be in rock & roll hall of fame. Shameful. Eric Burton deserves to be recognized especially with his voice.
It IS. In 2004 it was ranked number 233 on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list; it is also in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list.
They were and still are to stupid to know that
Only recorded for 2 years mostly covers or out of the Brill building

I was 16 that summer. It certainly brings back some fun memories. 🥰Thank you!
Eric, what a phenomenal voice!😍
My husband was unfortunately in the Vietnam War, and this was their theme song that they played every day. They all wanted to come home.
My twin brothers went to nam they made it home thank goodness
My father and uncle both served there. Unfortunately, my uncle didn't come home. In remembrance of gunnery Sgt James Davidson KIA khe sanh republic of Vietnam.
Kevin Davidson God Bless him.
Halsted Willoughby thanks for his service!
My grandfather was in Vietnam
First night in country. Cu Chi. Hundreds of GIs singing We Gotta Get Outta This Place. Chills.
I was 9 yo when Vietnam ended, but I have 100% respect and appreciation for what you guys did for us over there. Thank you for your service.
also a favorite at LZ max
Eric had an amazing voice, above everyone else. Electrifying. One of the greatest.
Where did all these great songs come from and hit just the righ spot at the right time🥰
Many of them came from the Mississippi delta. The Blues were huge in the U.K. Not so much in the U.S. until British bands covered all these great Blues tunes.
A unique voice that no one can copy,
With all the electronic gizmos in this world no one has been able to really duplicate it,
I consider The Animals the first punk rock band. The arrangements, the vocals, the subject matter…the name!
RIP Hilton Valentine such a good guitarist and nice man
👍 Right now all of the attention is on House of the Rising Sun, but Hilton's guitar made it happen on this song..
Also on Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood 👍
RIP 😢🙏🏻

ERIC WAS AN EPIC Vocalist ❣️ Sooo HAPPY that newer gens are REDISCOVERING HIM ❣️
These boys performed so many iconic rock and blues tunes. Incredible! 👍🏼
Jagger has nothing on this guy. Burdon is the best, period.
Never heard of that jagger guy 👎
They were both great....yes
Damn right. Karen Sweatman
Yes, Burdon every time!

I was thrilled ( understatement) to see Eric and a band perform in San Fransisco in 2017, summer, in a park, free. 2017! amazing, what a career!
Best voice in R & R..... ever.
Real music. No auto tune. Great voice.
Eric Burden is one cool dude. No jumping around like a damn fool.
You havent seen him sing Boom, Boom. He is moving and he knows how to dance.
@@kathleenmuchka2559 I bet he can dance really good what do you expect from the coolest dude that has graced our planet. Really back in the 60's the first time I saw the animals on TV I was just a kid and I thought he was so f ING cool. I really do remember telling g my dad I wanted to be like Eric Burdon. His reply was you going to be a damn pot head . Lol
@@kathleenmuchka2559 Just watched it. He is a good dancer.
The way that he looked at the camera... All the heartache... And all the anger reflected in his eyes..
what a great song...love the guitar....back then it was all talent, no lip synchronizing or computerized sounds.....this group sang so many great songs. Gotta love the dancing moves on the music video of the crowd.
This is lip synced .😂
One of the best singers of the British Invasion to America....the Animals....OMG ...I remember them being on the Ed Sullivan show. What a sexy guy Eric Burton was.....and what a voice!!!! Thank you Eric.
I wish I was lucky enough to meet him, I would probably faint if I was to even see him in person. Ha,ha.
I can't get over as to how BEAUTIFUL and HANDSOME he is!!!
His eyes - a lovely shade of green. That Beauty mark on his cheek....could go on and on....♥️🌹
I can listen to him all day. I love his voice.
I’ll never forget my dad driving me to the orthodontist…I was like 17 and I was hungover..and this song came on…and he turned it up real loud when the part came on about his dads hair turning gray and slaving his life away….needless to say I got the message! And everytime I hear this song I think of that!
He had such a deep, rich voice for someone so young. He still sounds great today.
Hello I am so sorry if this sounds weirds but you wrote such a nice and wonderful comment on here and like your comment. I can tell you're a very positive person. If it's okay with you I'd love to be friends.
Eric's voice and this bands playing is a win win combo!
He had the most fabulous voice, and range..loved listening to him sing..
I'M 75 old, some tears are falling down at listenig this song..
Listened to the Animals in the 60's still listen to the Animals in 2022.... They were so raw and Eric Burdon... what can I say, super powerful voice and he was hot!
Simply amazing sound. Blows me away 😮
I saw Eric Burdon perform at the Hoboken street festival in 2004 and he still had it! Voice was strong as ever.
I saw him in back in 2017 in Lorain, Ohio. Great concert. His voice is still incredible!!

An extraordinary voice and a brilliant song. What a wonderful experience to grow up with!
Just so damned cool. How singer is listening and moving with the bass. Such a treasure of a performance. Thank you.
And now Eric Burdon is a great grandfather now. Time flies!
Another one of the greatest voices!!!! ❤❤❤
This was my inspiration song to get away from my drunken abusive father. My brother was in Viet Nan (died of agent orange) living in a small coal mining town I just knew Eric's words were right. Now I'm 78 living far away.
Excellent.
❤
i worked with a Vietnam vet a few years ago, he was in his 70's, i am English (and a Geordie (from Newcastle)) and he was effectively my boss, we didn't get along until we bonded over this song when he was telling me this was a tune they all loved when they were out there.
This powerful backing and the lyrics takes me all the way back to those fabulous 60's.
Eric Burdon, genius. One of the greats! This band was so innovative and ahead of it's time! So many songs are timeless and still relevent. Animals 💝💝💝
2024 we used to listen to this really high volume in 1965
Awesome group 1965,year before I was born 💙
I was 10 years old in 65 and I still crank the volume up and can't keep my feet still😊
wow
🎉
And where’s my hearing now??? 😮
Was 14 when the song was released and I was blown away by Burdon's powerful and raspy voice. Loved 'em ever since and the nostalgia from hearing their songs is brilliant and takes me back to my raucous teenage years. Sing it again Eric...
ONE OF THE GREATEST VOICES IN ROCK AND ROLL HISTORY!!!! ZERO EFFORT TO MAKE THAT INCREDI LE SOUND!!!!
I should have been born during this era of music. Real talent no auto-tune or vocal track
