Resin print dyeing with alcohol inks.

- So a video of this method was requested by so many that I decided to try making one. I don't usually do videos like this so I don't have a proper setup, as is obvious from my failure to even keep the target in frame. Out of the 3 models I dyed, I managed to edit one that should show enough to understand the process.
All of these were printed on the Elegoo Mars and standard Elegoo Translucent resin, sliced in ChituBox and printed using 8s exposure time. Washed in alcohol for ~6 minutes, supports removed before curing with the help of hot water and cured in a UV chamber for 30 mins.
All the models were made by me as well.

This is really excellent, thanks for showing each of the steps. Those results look fantastic!
This is cool! Thank you for sharing the technique!
Bro that is crazy I bloody love it ...... this should have more views it's totally wicked
Wow!! Thanks for sharing this!!! I love this technique!!
So awesome. I was looking for a way to make those cool gradients in clear resin and found your video! Thank you so much for making this!
Fantastic video! I've been testing different inks to change the color of the resin before printing, but hadn't even really considered doing it after. Awesome idea and great execution.
Also you're so close to 1k subs! Congrats!
i looked up videos for pigmenting my clear prints, ty for making this video , these are absolutely beautiful projects you have done ! thank you for sharing this technique. many blessing sir.
A great result and video, thanks for sharing!
This is amazing thank you for making this video! I suck at painting so have been using run n buff, this method will add some variance to my prints. Also video was really well done overall.
Painting takes a LOT of time indeed, I prefer quick methods as it leaves me with more time to do the actual modeling.
The video would've been so much better if I just had the cameras aimed a bit higher, learning experience still, glad you found it informative still :)
OMG is that just awesome. I grabbed some Alcohol inks off of Amazon a few days ago, and just came across this video. No more having to add drops to uncured resin and be forced to use up all of the one color in the vat.
Amazing work. I bought your fae dragon model last week and it printed fabulous. I will now try to die it like you did. Thank you!
omg, the kyuubi looks really nice!
Very nice! Thanks for sharing in the Elegoo Mars group on Facebook.
This is cool af! Thanks for sharing!
I just got a 3D resin. Your video is amazing! I will try to do the same. Thank you!
Wow‼️ I really like ‼️ My Mom would absolutely love ❤️ them‼️
Hey, nice video! Thanks for making this! I can’t wait to try it!
Nice work!
Very cool, man. Thank you for sharing.
So pretty
Very cool!
Dope! I've been using the same dyes but I normally mix in the resin before printing. Will try your technique soon!❤
Does that end of staining your FEP?
thank you so much for sharing this sauce
Excellent
Muchas gracias por tus consejos y tutorial
me ayudo muchísimo
Amazing video! I’m trying so hard to get mine to come out like yours but I feel like no matter how much of the paint I put on it doesn’t get as dark as yours does. Is there any tip to making the paint stick better? I print, cure, then paint. And I have different models with different cure times too. Either way great videos and amazing work!
Wonderful looking models. Is the clear coat you use solvent based or water based/acrylic?
Thank you. Great results. I would like a bit more detail, when going through the process, and why you’ve done what you’ve done. Water, acetone. I will experiment with your method. Much appreciated.
Acetone is to blend the inks, and also to remove excess inks, as these inks are super strong. Water is to wash the acetone diluted inks off the model. At this stage it was all trial and error to get the effect I wanted.
They're beautiful! Do you think the clear coat would last on parts that are touched frequently? Like on keyboard keycaps?
Thanks! I think it depends on the product used, I'm sure there are options suitable for that though, but I have no experience with any yet. It's something I've been meaning to find out too.
Hi! Amazing video, what's the acetone for, you point it out?
Amazing video, exactly what i was looking for 😀
So just to be sure, after printing in clear resin, we clean, cure, then paint normaly with those inks, clean again in "normal" water, let it dry and finish with normal glossy varnish? is that?
Thanks in advance, and great work
Yeah pretty much, you can use acetone to blend the painted inks smoother, or to control the opacity a bit which is useful with the darker, stronger inks.
What happens when one masks parts of the model with tape? will the ink bleed under the tape?
Good stuff! Torilla tavataan
Hi! Beautiful technique! Were the prints completely solid or hollowed? Thanks!
These were fully solid, I tried this on hollow models too, but didn't like the result, solid looks much clearer.
nice results! i use an airbrush and less waste... try it! but easy process like that...thanks...
you airbrush alcohol inks?
With alcohol ink?? ;)
Looks fantastic! What was the spray you used at the end? I love your models too!
Thanks! It was just some glossy varnish, I had some leftover from a set that was called "3D effect", which I understand could be confusing but it really is nothing special, same as any other glossy varnish I've used. There are probably even better products for the clear coating too, I just used what I happened to have.
Can you use an airbrush to apply the inks ?
Very cool! I love this, very nice job. Quick question what was the acetone for? I only saw the resin figure dip in water.
It was applied with a brush so I could have some control over how much it dissolves the ink, and from which parts, dipping it in the water alone, without the acetone applied doesn't do much.
@@Kijaidesign thanks a lot. I'm gonna try this asap. I really appreciate the help.
Good day, I have a quick question which clear resin do you use for printing?
Can acetone damage the details of resin casting?
I use 99% alcohol instead of acetone. Is that wrong? Results look fine. Also found that dipping model in water doesn't do anything to the intensity of the ink. Because I'm a real beginner, I always over-apply ink (too much ink) and the dark colors just kill all the lighter (yellow) colors. It's a real skill that you have to control the gradients so well, especially in the demon fox with the black yellow and red. Whenever I apply black anywhere, that's it for the model. It gets everywhere and darkens everything, no matter how much alcohol I brush on afterwards. By the way, I just love all your models! Bravo!
I'm just doing trial and error, not qualified to say what's the right or wrong way, I don't think alcohol alone removes much dried ink though, which acetone can do. Water alone removes only the excess ink that pools in the crevices and such, but it also removes the ink/acetone mix after brushing it in. Dark inks are tough and you should dilute them with alcohol or even water before applying, or applying very lightly with a brush, however acetone can lighten even the darker inks just fine.
@@Kijaidesign thank you for the advice. It makes perfect sense now why you use water, I think that’s what I should do when the dark colour gets out of control and pools up. Thank you once again for your help😊
try water curing your prints to prevent the yellowing
Maybe I missed it but are the inks applied before final cure or will you get this result after curing?
Print, cure, THEN die it he says at 0:30 if anyone else missed it ;)
What resin printer do you use to make these?
These were printed on the Elegoo Mars and Saturn -printers.
Beautiful work!!! How much infill resin did you use?
Thanks! These prints are fully solid.
How to use acetone ? blend the color together and then into the water, right? it isn't smelling acetone good, how to proctect the body? mask eyeglasses and gloves, right?
You can use acetone to blend, reduce or even remove the color after you've applied it, the water helps to remove the dissolved ink. You need to use gloves for sure, it's bad for your skin, and mask too. I'm unsure of the need for eye protection, the fumes never irritated my eyes, splashes would probably be bad so it's always smart of course.
@@Kijaidesign Thank you so so much! It's helpfully.Acetone is a danger liqud ,so I scary to use it.
Could you die action figures with alcohol inks?
Where can i find the skull model?
That is my "Skull City": www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-76050
Has anyone tried acrylic inks?
I like your video! I'm from RESIONE resin, and want to ask you if you'd be interested in reviewing some of our resins which have high performance and precision.
Can I have your e-mail so that we can communicate with each other?
Great technique! Thank you so much for sharing
