i disagree. her videos, though somewhat informative, are very subjective, full of feminist propaganda and belittles certain shapes, types or behavior of the discussed period if that is not to her liking.
Didn't find anything feminist on the UFH channel, let alone ''propaganda''. It's really a mistery what julijakeit is talking about. As for sharing her own opinions and taste sometimes, it's alright for me because my personal taste or opinion is not so fragile that the fact that someone has a different one can change it. Moreover, when she talks about her personal tastes she makes it in the most polite way possible. She doesn't impose them on her viewers. Everyone is bringing up their subjectivity when they talk about something. People are not robots, you can't avoid it. Apart from the things mentioned about this channel already, I like how she connects history of fashion to contexts of different eras, ideas and moods that used to be at that particular era and how they influenced fashion of that time. She also talks about art and artistic influences in fashion. These things really help to plunge into these eras and see the broader context. ''Fashion is not an island, it's a response'', as she says.
I'm so happy that Karolina's channel is such a succes and everytime I watch her videos I see she gets more and more subscribers! I'm so proud she's from my home town too!

Dear Ms Żebrowska, I adore your channel and videos. I'm just wondering whether there's ever be place for woman of colour in historical fashion. I apologise if my inquiry is silly. Thank you and have a good day!
5 лет назад+106
no, not silly at all! I myself don't feel competent enough to talk about women's of color experience, but you can check out "Not Your Momma's History" on Facebook and instagram for a more detailed insight into what their lives and clothes looked like around 18th and 19th century. wait, I just checked and she actually has a youtube channel! ahhh too bad I didn't know before
On youtube, there's the Ask A Slave webseries which satirizes a black woman's more ridiculous experiences as a living history re-enactor. There is a wide range in age and body type among black historical costumers on instagram - the vast majority, however, cover colonial North America or rococo France. Cosplayers sometimes dabble in historic costuming, Disney bounders in particular, and that tends to be wider in scope. I've struggled to find non-American black historical costumers, though the musical SIX, about Henry VIII's wives, is gloriously diverse in both casting & fandom so THAT'S a possible lead. East Asian historical costumers I follow include Sewstine, Fresh Frippery (no youtube channel, sadly), and this awesome catwoman cosplayer who's done everything from comic-accurate 1960's to WWI/II bomber to regency. One of those channels that does "Historically Accurate [x film]" finally hired an ACTUAL historical costumer (as opposed to a vintage historian), a year or so back, sometime after their releasing a truly pitiful "How Historically Accurate Is Disney's Mulan" done by some white woman utterly out of her depth. More recently, cosplayer & meme queen was so DONE with Disney's Mulan 2020 that she made an entire youtube channel to post a video essay documenting its every cultural failing. She's since made a much more loving dissection of Mulan 1998, complete with tweets from some of the actual animators, owning up to errors that made it into the film & Rule Of Cool design decisions. Finally, for HISTORIC historic costuming, there is 5000 Years's Ali who, similarly to Prior Attire, demonstrates the correct wearing of hanfu in both an english & chinese-dubbed youtube channels. South Asian historical costumers... well, if you find any with english-language platforms, could you direct me to them? I've not had much luck finding SA vintage grammers either - there ARE a few historical arms bloggers who work at western museums and, while I've yet to find any of them actually dressing up in any armour, a few will post a pic of themselves "wielding" reproductions or genuine historic shields & katars! I'm rubbish at remembering names and faces but hopefully the bloggers I've forgotten thataways will be findable through the extenuating details I gave? If anyone recognises or can correct me on names, please do so!
@@BattyButtercup wow this is fairly thorough. Or more thorough than I would expect. I’m Chinese and grew up in America and only recently realized I’ve never seen any Asian costumers. This is good to know they exist.
@@BattyButtercup Xiran Jay Zhao made the videos "Everything culturally wrong with Mulan 2020 (and how they could have been fixed)" and "Everything culturally right and wrong with Mulan 1998". I think that might be the channel you're talking about? Thanks a lot for the other recommendations! I was hoping someone in the comments would have recommended Asian fashion history channels!
I think what's really the magic of Crows Eye Production is how they link the getting dressed part with the historic and social context. It starts as a normal getting dressed video but then there's always so much more to discover behind that. Definitely worth watching! Thanks so much for this interesting video, Karolina!
I'm someone who's never been particularly knowledgeable about fashion or been into it but I love writing period pieces and needed to research so I'd know what my characters would wear. That's how I came across you and your video about misconceptions about the 1950's was incredibly helpful. Then I began to go down a historical fashion rabbit hole and came across Ultimate Fashion History and Bernadette Banner and all three of you have become favorites of mine. You know your content is great and super interesting when you get someone who didn't know anything about fashion become a big fan. Keep up the great work!
So many great channels mentioned 🙂 I've followed Angela Clayton for years. She is so creative and in 2018 she really showed her humor in her videos 🙂 I've also recently subscribed to Bernadette Banner and what I like about her is that she is just herself 🙂

Another very interesting channel is Jannet Stephens'. She is an expert in historical hairstyles, especially ancient Roman ones, but has also other videos. The thing is she posts quite rarely, but there is enough content on her channel to keep one occupied.
Evelyn Wood also makes great videos. Hers are focused on 20th century fashion. How to make clothes and thrifting clothes and turning them into vintage looking clothing.
Earliest I've ever seen one of your videos. In the US and I don't care if you upload with english or polish- I always watch. You're very sincere which makes your channel a great and frequent stop in my youtube life. Keep at it!

I had to come back to your video because I could not remember the name earlier - Mariah Pattie. Granted her focus is also on fictional world-building, but she uses theory and history of fashion design to help in her work. Love her Fashion 'Capsules'!
I found Karolina Żebrowska's channel thru the Ultimate Fashion History. (Thanks to RUclips recommendations.) Both are great channels. I never thought I would be interested in fashion history. But it fits in very well with my interest in domestic history (how ordinary people lived).
I already spend way too much time watching fashion history videos and now you give me a list of more channels I need to watch 😭😁. So now I go even farther down the rabbit hole that is CosTube. I may never watch Netflix again 🤣.
Haha I love HauteLeMode and I think it's so funny that you included him here because so much of what he does is modern, but not that you mention he has done some really good videos about the history of fashion!!
I don't know if you're familiar with the channel PostModern Jukebox. They're singing channel and they make covers of modern music in vintage style. I saw them live last year in Poznań and it was fantastic. I know they're coming to Poland again this year ;)
For future reference, it's "loopsy" cos that's what Dutch "oe" sounds like apparently, and she's from the Netherlands but iirc Slovak born, so never been British lmao I'm not sure who you might've been confusing her with
A great "historical interpreter" I REALLY like is PriorAttire! The problem with MANY "vintage" channels is that even if they do a fine job with their own reproductive or modern take on vintage looks, they either admit to very little research or effort, or they don't talk about it whatsoever. That is what makes your channel special! But thank you for sharing them and some of them are SO cool!!
My favorite is Priorattire because watching the whole process of sewing bores me, I always skip it and watch the final result😊 And of course I love your channel too
Thanks for this! There are several here I haven’t heard of, but will subscribe. One suggestion - This is not a blog - its a tv show but it’s on You Tube and if you are interested in Historical Costume, it’s definitely worth watching the 5 or 6 episodes. It’s called A Stitch In Time, starring Amber Bouchard. Each episode takes a painting and recreates one outfit using period techniques and materials. I just wish there were more episodes.
I would also recommend Costuming Drama! she's friends with Cathy Hay and Bernadette Banner, and she makes mostly Edwardian era clothes, as well as some Regency and Victorian sprinkled in. She makes her own trims and things as well, which is an interesting note. Something really interesting that she does is that she sometimes makes historical clothes inspired by fiction, including an iron man dress, and an outfit for a "Lady John Watson" look for costume college 2019. She's a bit more sarcastic/relatable (at least, she is if you, like me, need a kick in the butt for motivation sometimes). Thank you for making this list! There are lots here I didnt know about and I'm excited to give their videos a try! ruclips.net/channel/UCGfIQhkqB_CMTW7wVGYSz_A

I know this isn't a RUclips channel but the Unravel podcast focuses on historical fashion and the significance of fashion in history, with a lot of emphasis on people of color. Full disclosure: one of the women is the daughter of a good friend of mine (and she's a friend of mine as well). It's more scholarly and the presenters are academics and work in the fields of fashion and history. Check them out if you're interested. 🙂

Silvousplaits is AMAZING, I love her tutorials. Haven't managed to do any of them though, lol!
Oh boi, this is basically a guide for me to binge watch
I'd also like to mention Evelyn Wood. She does 1920's-30's inspired fashion, if anyone is interested.
I love Bernadette, I'm so glad you recommended her channel!
Meme mom spreading the love! I have so many channels to go binge, there’s so many! Thank you!
I know they're coming to Poland again this year ;)
Ok but Bernadette Banner and Silvouplaits are literally my FAVOURITE channels EVER since each came out
If you guys are interested in 18th century American lifestyle, cooking, and clothing, I would highly recommend Townsends!
For future reference, it's "loopsy" cos that's what Dutch "oe" sounds like apparently, and she's from the Netherlands but iirc Slovak born, so never been British lmao I'm not sure who you might've been confusing her with
Honestly, even when you say your English “isn’t there” I find it so incredibly impressive.
My eye bags are vintage, thanks🙃
My favorite is Priorattire because watching the whole process of sewing bores me, I always skip it and watch the final result😊 And of course I love your channel too
I love your sense of humour
You are hitting all of my favorites! Yay! A good historical hair channel is Janet Stephens, her research is very detailed including Roman styles.
I legit found your channel because of recommended from prior attire
You're such a Queen...... so beautiful, how you've managed to bring together the people in the community of fashion history....
Wow! I absolutely love how you're helping others in the vintage fashion + community. You rock! XO
There are lots here I didnt know about and I'm excited to give their videos a try! ruclips.net/channel/UCGfIQhkqB_CMTW7wVGYSz_A
Loved the video Karolina! Some other vintage gals I love watching are Rachel Maksy (Formally know as ThePinupCompanion), TheClosetHistorian, And MissBeeTown! 💙💙💙
I mentioned all of them in the vintage video ❤️
Oh yeah you did... and I watched hat one too. I guess I just didn’t remember whoops haha. 🙈💗
I had to watch it again myself, it was almost exactly a year ago haha
I recently started watching the "TheLongHairedFlapper" and she does a lot of historical beauty tips of different eras.
i fricking love this community
Fashion history youtubers you should watch:
Karolina Żebrowska
I'm sorry Mom I'll have to watch you tomorrow after school and ball practice but I still love youuu😥😍😍 I gave you a like anyway👍
July Thijssen I possibly have myself her name. This lady is ready to show her love of sewing in a non patronising way. Her sense of humour is so endearing.
Just in the past few months I;ve come to realize just how into fashion history I've been my whole. freaking. life., and I'm finding this explosion of fashion history youtubers (because algorithms, I suppose) and it seems like a lot of you know each other and i think that is so cool. I want to be in a crafting circle with you all.
I WAITED FOR THIS SO MUCH 😀😀
So cool! All of my favorite historical fashion and sewing youtubers listed all in one place, PLUS several more to check out. Thank you!
You've given me more people to watch on YT, great I already watch enough because I have no TV. Thank you.
i REALLY ENJOY AMBER BUCHART AND ENGLISH HERITAGE. THEY COVER EVERY TIME FRAME!
Omg all of my faves! Loepsie and Silvousplaits are the queens of hair and history!
Omg I was waiting for prior attires channel to be on here
Great video. I already follow about half of these RUclips channels, so will check out the others. Thanks for the recommendations.
I knew most of them already. They're so cool :D I was all the time like "OMG, she likes them too!"
I already follow most of these awesome people but now I have more, cannot wait to binge watch.
I was subbed to crow eye products before this video, they make good stuff! There tell them of us series is great! Anyway I also subbed to everyone on this list because of you, haven't watched them yet but it's fine, I got a lot of great people to watch. Thanks Karolina!
Am I the only one just going through subscribing to them all
I know this isn't a RUclips channel but the Unravel podcast focuses on historical fashion and the significance of fashion in history, with a lot of emphasis on people of color. Full disclosure: one of the women is the daughter of a good friend of mine (and she's a friend of mine as well). It's more scholarly and the presenters are academics and work in the fields of fashion and history. Check them out if you're interested. 🙂
NS Cat I love historical fashion podcasts. Ty for the recommendation!
thanks so much for making this video! i've been searching recently for more people to follow, i already follow a fair few of them but i certainly found some new people!
I love my meme mom supporting other icons ❤️❤️
Toottoot! All aboard!
Destination History Fashion Island.
In english Loepsie is pronounced like loop-sy. I love you included pretty much all my favorites.
Dien Thank you! I had been wondering, too.
Thanks, I really like Bernadette Banner's channel. Love your channel too!
