  • NOTE ON HOW I USE BOOKS:
I filmed the books because I wanted to signal to you my research is grounded mainly in respected and published books. I hope they serve like citations in an essay. I left captions in the shot so you could pause and read them if you wish. Listed below are the books I used.
Fashion: The Definitive History of Costume and Style
    ISBN: 978-0-7566-9835-5
(This book is the one with timelines with dates, edited by the Smithsonian.)
How to Read a Dress: A Guide to Changing Fashion from the 16th to the 20th Century
    by Lydia Edwards
    ISBN: 978-1-4725-3327-2
(This book has the dates and descriptions on the top of the page, with lots of descriptions about the outfit.)
Fashion: A History from the 18th to the 20th Century
    ISBN: 978-0-7607-8202-6
(This book has the rest of the book photos, the full page photos, edited by the Kyoto Costume Institute.)
My Fashion History series is all about hitting the important highlights of 20th century fashion that every fashion professional should know to have a good working vocabulary of visual references. It's more of a general overview than a deep dive. This video covers 1900-1920: La Belle Epoque, Edwardian fashion, the Gibson Girl, Orientalism, the effects of World War I, and some important designers of the day: Paquin, Patou, Chanel, and Poiret.

Please continue this series, but could you give some more clarification on how we should be using this information? While this is definitely a useful foundation for a general knowledge base, would you say that it's important to keep researching and learning on our own from this point using these main points as key take-aways from the period?

I'm not even a fashion student but I've always always been really curious about the drastic change in fashion during this period and you just made it click for me it all makes so much sense! I never drew the connection between fashion and the wars going on but now it makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for answering a lifelong question. Hope you keep doing more of these!

I am a Fashion History Geek so....PLEASE CONTINUE this, it is particularly useful for my Fashion Marketing education, because you're citiing houses, people and movements, not just silhouettes!
I know it's not the point, but I'd love it if you could do some content on the earlier periods too, especially those that keep getting cited as being trends, like Victorian is at the moment

Yes! Please continue, because there are people out there who don't know or get confused by the movements or time periods of historical accuracy; including, contemporary to "modern" decades besides the 60's and 70's. Since I also buy clothing on esty, (for example) you be surprised how Neyon Colores wasn't just or throughout the 80's. It was also in the early 90's still part of the Swim to Resort Wear. And yes, there were changes, etc.
